The state of ambient music in Minecraft Posted: 15 Mar 2018 07:28 AM PDT One of the most iconic and important elements of Minecraft is the music. c418's soundtrack is what shaped countless people's experience with playing the game, it adds so much to the atmosphere; and with how it compliments the gameplay by occasionally fading in and out will leave you with even stronger memories of both the music and the game. Having said that, I don't think I'm alone here as one who adores the ambient music yet has "Music" in the volume settings set to 0 these days. It's not because I've become bored of the soundtrack, far from it, it's because it's broken. Firstly, it's playing way too frequently, and far too LOUD, even with the music volume under 50% it still overpowers the other sounds in the game. It feels like with music on, you can barely get a quiet moment in what's supposed to be a quiet game. Secondly, tracks OVERLAP. This has happened to me way too many times and was the final straw that forced me to set the music volume to 0 for good. I've heard this is only an issue when swapping worlds quickly, but I've had it happen in-game randomly. Thirdly, there's a ton of little things that add onto these problems that make it even worse, like how if you play a jukebox, the ambient music continues to play. Good luck ever listening to a record all the way though without more overlapping music. All of this just turns the music from what used to be one of the most immersive elements in Minecraft into the exact opposite. I really want to enjoy the music again but until it's been fixed to not be an unstable broken mess, my music volume is sadly staying at 0. If anyone has anything to add, please do so. This is a new record ! 8 mobs in 1 update ! Posted: 15 Mar 2018 10:01 AM PDT I'm not sure, but I think that is a record : the update Aquatic (1.13) add 8 mobs : the turtle, the phantom, the cod, the salmon, the pufferfish, the tropical fish, the drowned and the dolphin. Anyway, congratulations to Mojang for this wonderful update, you made a big effort, and your community is really satisfied ! That was just a little message for you, devs, you're working hard everyday and you deserve a big thank from all Minecraft players ! (Sorry if there are grammatical errors, I'm french and my english isn't the best !) [link] [comments]
Not a fan of the Drowned... But! (Suggestions inside) Posted: 15 Mar 2018 05:10 PM PDT Hey all! I've had the privilege of beta testing the Update Aquatic today, and I have some thoughts on how the Drowned are implemented. I should start off my saying I am not a fan currently of how they are used in game, but I have some ideas of how they could be used so much better. A) They shouldn't spawn in all water, everywhere. When I first started my new game, I was in a Jungle Biome. I walked a little, found a small, but deeper pond, and jumped in hoping to see some fish. Instead, I met about 3 of these swimming zombies which quickly latched on to me. They were as abundant as squids! How did they get in this tiny pond of all places?! Instead, I suggest that Drowned only spawn where you would actually find drowned souls. Like the new ruined villages underwater, and especially shipwrecks! These are places that would actually have terrifying drowned corpses that spring to life. Not your local fishin' hole. Which leads me to... B) I actually like the idea of the Drowned... But-! I like having an aggressive water mob. That's FANTASTIC. But if they're going to be common enough to haunt every body of water... why not just make them actual hostile aquatic critters instead of people? Aggressive squid. Alligators. Sharks! Why is it "more zombies, but water"? I think some variety in mobs would actually make this game a million times better. They would use the same AI as Drowned, but just a different model. It would fit the theme of your world being "so much more alive" that the current update seems to be striving for. Crocodiles for small bodies of water. Sharks for oceans. Dead people in shipwrecks. It just makes sense! Do you like these ideas? Do you have some of your own? I'd love to hear them. [link] [comments]
