I like that coral generates in worlds now, but...

Is anyone else a bit disappointed by the way they generate?

With all the tall trees and large orbs, it looks/feels more like a super tall coral forest than coral on a reefbed.

Here's a couple pics of what they look like now:

And here's a couple examples of how I think they would look better if they generated in this way.

As well as a couple screenshots of one I built a couple minutes ago, what I would personally consider a really good look for them:

Obviously, imagine it being bigger and more expansive than what I've built. Like, the size of our current coral forests.

Also, I don't expect them to use Prismarine as a block under the coral. That was just a touch from /u/Lionsbane's post that I really liked the look of.

Ideally, I think that:

  1. While it should have some bits that stick up a bit higher (like some of the pink coral in the one I built) and not be flat, I don't think giant coral trees should be the way they generate.

  2. Coral reefs should have an abundance (or at least an increased amount) of tropical fish around them. Less squid, cod, and pufferfish spawning in them. (Perhaps keep pufferfish spawn rate the same? IDK)

  3. Different colors of coral plants should grow on different colors of coral blocks. (Thankfully, this already happens with the coral that currently generates, thank god)

  4. Coral reefs being fairly rare if they are large like we have seen so far is a good idea.

  5. Tropical fish should swim lower and more closely to the corals. I've noticed that tropical fish don't seem to like swimming close to the bottom of a body of water for more than a few seconds, that second picture of my build was a lucky chance. I understand tropical fish swimming higher up if they're not in a coral reef, but I really think that in a coral reef they should swim around and closer to it.

  6. Who knows? This odd coral forest could be added as a rarer variant of coral reefs? That way, it could still be in the game.

And that's what I've thought about so far. I'm not gonna die or quit the game if it doesn't change, but I would really love to see coral look more like this. Imagine looking at the dark surface of the water from the docks at your base, diving in, and finding a lovely underwater garden similar to the one I built. Thanks for reading!

TL;DR

I'm a bit disappointed by how coral reefs currently generate, and have an idea on how they could look better. Details inside.

EDIT: I expanded my reef a little bit!

While there are parts that stick up higher than others, lots of coral species (not all) tend to live closer to the ground/along the surface of the rock it's growing on. The giant sea fan is a species that likes to flamboyantly grow outwards, here is one. We should also take into consideration the size of coral compared to a human. Minecraft players are around 6 feet tall, and even that giant sea fan doesn't look bigger than that. This is why it feels weird to me to have 16 foot coral trees and 12 foot orbs of coral.
