/r/Civ Free Talk Friday - March 09, 2018

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 02:14 AM PST

Greetings r/Civ.

Hello and welcome to Free Talk Friday, a megathread where everyone can rant, vent, or otherwise express themselves to their heart's content. This is also a place where you can organize your thoughts, or even a party for multiplayer games if you so wish to.

Despite the mostly free of expression, however, we would like to ask you to still follow the rules, mainly:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your comments civil and as respectful as you can. If you cannot say anything good, please hide and ignore the comment.
  • Memes are allowed in the thread, but Politics and other controversial topics are not permitted to prevent offending certain people.

For other Weekly/Monthly threads, you can now view them here.

There is currently a bug with running the Rise & Fall Expansion with the existing DLC which in some cases makes it impossible to start a game. A more detailed explanation of this bug can be found in this post.

As a temporary fix until we can get an official patch, you can download either this unofficial patch by Deliverator23, or with this patch by Gedemon.

Hottest Wonders in your opinion?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 08:41 AM PST

So continuing off this recent trend of Hottest Males/Females: lets take a nice look at the next most beautiful thing in Civilization: Wonders. Nothing like a beautiful mega-building giving a mega-bonus. Which ones are your most favored beautiful-buildings? Comment below. I myself will vouch greatly for the Hanging Gardens and their lush plant-growth.

EDIT: Reasoning can include both the look of the wonder and its effects; although im more emphasizing its looks.

Nuclear Warfare in Civ MP

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 12:15 PM PST

I feel like there's no fear when it comes to using nuclear weapons. I think there should be a Second strike ability in Civ, not just a policy named after it, where the player being attacked can launch their own nuclear weapons back at the attacker before any of the nuclear weapons land, that would really raise the tension among players with nuclear weapons and bring about an implicit No first use.

Firaxis, thanks for the patch, but please please can you fix the load order bug with R&F + DLC + mods!

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 02:30 AM PST

Seriously, please can you just fix this issue?

Creating a "Disable Mods" button isn't resolving the underlying issue (in fact it feels a bit like trying to shift blame onto modders).

Gedomon's version of the patch from Civfanatics has 7500 downloads so this is clearly affecting a lot of people. There's a lot of frustration from modders that this hasn't been resolved yet.

Also, thanks for (finally) fixing the Unique District bug - although not sure why that wasn't in the patch notes given how the modding community has been waiting for it.

Does anyone know how Reyna's Land Acquisition works?

Looking everywhere online and no one has a clear answer. Is it just reducing required culture for the next tile gain?
