[PvE] Balance was done right with Mesmer and Warrior

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 12:35 PM PST

After the last balance patch settled with the community it's safe to say Mesmer and Warrior as a whole are the biggest winners, because:

  • They ended up with several working meta builds that adapt to many different circumstances. Mesmer gets ahead of every other class being able to build for pure support (chrono), power damage (power chrono) and condition damage (condi mirage). I doubt it ever had so much build diversity and room for theorycrafting
  • Warrior ended up with a condition build, a power build and a vanilla build that despite focusing almost purely on damage (and CC) gave people the long awaited chance to bring out their axes, greatswords, maces and daggers, or just ditch elite specs altogether.

This is imho balance done right and I love it, minor issues and tweaking aside. I want the devs to give every single class the same treatment and keep nurturing diversity because it does me good and I think it will also be healthy for the game overall.

Irenio, Robert and Karl, hope you keep it coming faster, better, stronger

TP's 10k gold limit and the items above it

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 07:48 AM PST

Shrug

I would like to complain hear what the community thinks about the current situation, in which there are items that are not being traded in the TP anymore because their worth is above the 10k gold limit.

I will go ahead and say what I personally think about it - this is bad because:

• I believe the only legal trading option is by mail/guild bank transfers, where there is no guarantee that one of the sides won't scam and run with the gold/items (I have never used a guild bank so fix me if I'm wrong).

• If by chance the above method worked, there is no fee (this is bad - inflation and stuff).

• Non-legal ways of getting those items include paying with real money (which also suffers from my first 2 points).

As I see it, the solution can be to either rise the TP's gold limit or decrease the worth of those items by increasing their drop rate (I understand they're meant to be unique. 9k gold is still very unique and can be traded safely).

What do you think?

What does anet think - why is there a limit anyway?

[Recommendation] label bank tabs

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 02:23 PM PST

Dear Anet Today I did my weekly bank organizing, and a simple idea crossed my mind. It would be nice if I could create a title for each bank tab. For example, I could name one accessories and throw all my trinkets in that specific tab. It's nothing paramount, but it would definitely be nice to see and improve QoL for those who have a little bit of OCD :).

[IA] F97 Thaumanova Trio [4:36] Restricted

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 02:23 PM PST

Hey guys,

We worked on a few fractals low-man runs a couple months ago but lost interest in the game pretty quickly afterwards. However, the new Raid Tournament announcement and qT publishing their 3-man Thaumanova record got us pumped again for GW2 and inspired us to give it a go as well!

Hope you guys enjoy watching the few tricks we came up with to spice the fractal routine!

  • All locations are only in the core game, you dont need any of the expansions to participate

  • All locations are reachable by walking and jumping, you dont need gliding or mounts or the like

  • No instanced content

  • Some might be in or around jumping puzzles

In addition to the existing prizes, I'll be giving out 25 Gold to the five runner ups.

Happy hunting!

[Suggestion] Make dungeons great again with dungeon-themed fractals

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 01:06 PM PST

Dungeons are really fun and it's sad that they've mostly faded into obscurity. Others on this subreddit have made suggestions about how to rework dungeons into fractals, but I had some ideas and wanted to give my two cents.

This is not a suggestion to make any changes to dungeons. Anet has made it clear that dungeons are abandoned content, and there are lots of people who enjoy dungeons in their current form. Instead, this is a suggestion to create new fractals, based on dungeon assets and encounter designs, which would update the best parts of dungeons for a new audience.

Pros:

  • Less dev time than a completely new fractal, due to reused assets.
  • Possible source of dungeon skins/runes as drops.
  • Makes daily fractals more varied.
  • Opportunities to add instabilities and challenge motes for more replayability.

Cons:

  • We'd never be able to go back to old crappy dungeons after playing their updated fractal versions.

With that out of the way, here are some specific fractal suggestions:

Ascalonian Catacombs Fractal

This fractal could revolve around the battle between ghosts and gravelings in the catacombs before the events of story mode.

  • Corridor with traps and gargoyle heads.
  • Lieutenant Kholer miniboss together with ghost adds. Breakbar appears when he channels his spin attack.
  • Graveling mound event, with AOE telegraphs on graveling knockdown attacks.
  • Graveling boss who spawns graveling adds and makes rocks fall.

Caudecus's Manor Fractal

The players could be turned into Shining Blade soldiers secretly investigating Minister Caudecus. Upon entering the foyer they would be ambushed by bandits.

  • Bandit fight in the foyer with different types of bandit mobs.
  • Basement corridor with turrets shooting projectiles that you have to dodge while advancing.
  • Big basement room full of trash mobs and riflemen.
  • Boss rush at the end with 3 minibosses: Sure Shot Seamus (shotgun cones), Gunpowder Morgan (throws bombs), Frost (chilling blasts).
  • In a cutscene at the end, Caudecus could kill the Shining Blade players and frame one of his underlings, ensuring his secret is safe. The players then appear on a Mist island where the reward chest is.

Twilight Arbor Fractal

The players could be turned into sylvari valiants attacking Twilight Arbor.

  • Greater Nightmare Vine boss with Volatile Blossoms. Phases every few % of health, forcing the players to kill Nightmare Court adds.
  • Various trash mobs patrolling the Peatrot Gallery/Lake of Fear area.
  • Brangoire miniboss who makes AOEs and summons adds.
  • Faolain teleports the players to her lair for the boss fight, where she makes AOEs and summons doppelgangers of the players. At the end she turns invulnerable and escapes.

Sorrow's Embrace Fractal

This fractal could take place during story mode. It would cut straight to the "defend Zojja as she hacks the door" event.

  • Players defend Zojja from waves of dredge mobs and power suits.
  • Large room where War Minister Shukov gives his speech; full of trash mobs. Also patrolled by power suits that reveal players, as in Underground fractal, and CC them.
  • Kudu boss fight using the story mode mechanics.
  • Iron Forgeman boss fight. On higher scales, more lava elementals could spawn and safe spots could be temporarily destroyed, forcing players to move.

Citadel of Flame Fractal

This fractal could probably just be Citadel of Flame P1, ripped mechanics and all (though perhaps with a more lenient boulder section).

Honor of the Waves Fractal

The players could be turned into kodan defending the sanctuary from an icebrood attack.

  • Series of events where you kill icebrood mobs in the courtyard, then fall back and defend the caves, then fall back and defend the Voice's room.
  • Boss fight against an Icebrood Goliath that makes falling ice shards and freezes players, forcing teammates to break them out.

Crucible of Eternity Fractal

The players could be turned into Inquest doing a tour of the facility and dealing with experiments gone awry.

  • Security room event where you hack the consoles.
  • Corridors with dragon minions, plus Risen fish, jungle tendrils, ice turrets, and lava fonts.
  • Boss fight against Subject Alpha in the Kudu's Monster room.

Ruined City of Arah Fractal

The players could be turned into Pact soldiers airdropping into Arah during the attack on Zhaitan.

  • Airship fight against a dragon champion like in the story mode, with turrets and Risen adds.
  • Mouth of Zhaitan miniboss, with the same mechanics as in the story mode.
  • Eye of Zhaitan miniboss that teleports around, with Risen turrets at the edges of the arena doing bullet hell attacks.
  • Lupicus as final boss.

(If anyone at Anet is reading this, I renounce all legal rights and/or compensation I have to these ideas. As long as the slightest inspiration was taken from this post, I would be overjoyed.)

In conclusion, I think dungeon-themed fractals could be really fun for both new and veteran players, while being easier to develop than completely new fractals. It also represents an opportunity to revisit dungeons in a way that fits with Anet's current vision for the game.

Comments and discussion appreciated.

Dumb questions about Asuras!

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 02:21 PM PST

I'm currently reading Edge of Destiny and I'm learning a lot about Zojja and her master, Snaff. It got me thinking:

1- Do we know who is the most intelligent asura of all? And between Snaff, Zojja, Kudu and Taimi?

2- And maybe it's obvious, but did Zojja ever meet Taimi?

Thanks for answering!!

Lobatto's Grand Screenshot Competition

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:59 AM PST

Hello reddit,

welcome to my little contest! Today I'll present you with a small screenshot competition.

Whats the goal?

I will upload a couple of screenshots, you have to find where they are made and make one yourself of your character at that position.

When does it start?

12AM UTC on Sunday, so exactly in 9 hours from now.

What are the prices?

There are 3 grand prices:

  • Lvl 30 Guild Hall, worth approximately 5k gold
  • Rodgort
  • Ghostly Infusion(Power) + Fused Scepter Skin + Any skins from the BLTC adding up to 4 Black Lion Claim Tickets

First place gets to choose first which of these he wants and so forth. I might update the price pool with additional runner up prices, but dont pin me down on that.

How to win

If you think you have found all correct locations, send an e-mail with a name I contact you on ingame and either a link to an imgur album or an archive containing all the screenshots to screenshotcompetition@gmail.com

The first 3 correct entries will win.

Rules:

  • All screenshots must be taken on the same character

  • UI must be visible in the screenshot with the minimap visible, you can black out chat though if you want

I will create another thread as soon as the locations go live, containing additional information. If you have any questions thus far, go ahead and ask.
