Posted: 21 Mar 2018 06:08 AM PDT If I've denounced another civ and have the option to declare a formal war, the game should assume I'd rather do that when I joint war vs using a surprise war. At least give me the option to select what kind of war I want to declare when I sign a joint declaration. [link] [comments]

I'll never make fun of historical leaders again Posted: 21 Mar 2018 02:18 AM PDT I used to make fun of the US for the Vietnam war and the invasion of Cuba. I was thinking "how can anyone be so stupid?" then I made the same exact mistakes. I was playing as Spain. I captured Greece's capital early with some slingers and because they attacked first. After that, I mostly chilled and settled all over my continent. I wanted to play nice with Haralda so I build a kickass navy. I fall behind on research because I tried to wonder-whore but failed. After some time, I research oil but I don't find any. The only place close to me that had oil was the city-state that was on an island north of me. I decide to invade it because every civ begin to have a bigger army and I don't have any tank. I send my navy to attack the city-state; should be easy, right? Nope! After I declared war and began to shoot on the city-state, its naval units came back from nowhere. Subs. Lots of subs begin to sink my navy one by one. With half my fleet sank, I begin to retreat. Bad idea. The subs caught me up and wipe out my navy in two turns. I never knew a city-state could be so powerful! I then retreat tails between legs and send my ground troops (one third of whom sank by the subs). I succeed in capturing the city-state but my army has been decimated! I shoot for a science victory while rebuilding my army and fleet. I put a man on the moon but Australia (my friend) is close to victory because that bastard has been grinding for science all game. I declare war and decide to drop my only two A bombs on their spaceports. They don't have many troops so I could easily defeat them. I send my new navy to capture their capital and I succeed in a few turns. I'm proud of myself but not for long. Australia was my former friend so everyone gets mad at me for attacking them. They declare an emergency against me and 4 civs declare war on me. Then they declare another emergency because I used A bombs. America then proceeds to drop A bombs on my three main cities (hypocrite). It destroys my spaceport so I can't go to Mars. It also permits Haralda to capture two of my cities. I try to negotiate for peace but it's impossible. My civ didn't stand the test of time... TL;DR: Used to mock stupid decisions make by historical leaders; made the same decisions. Got my ass beat. Posted: 21 Mar 2018 12:33 PM PDT I've had this idea for making the eras of the game more interesting by including a crisis that all civilization have to deal with or face harsh consequences. They would depend on the era. Ancient: Bronze Age Collapse - Farms and plantations will have a maintenance cost that increases during the crisis. Cities become more sensitive to bankruptcy. Classical: Hunnic Hordes - Barbarians will have an increased spawn rate during the crisis, and may capture units that they kill. Medieval: Plague - Plague is a tile effect that spread through improved tiles. It lower all yields on that tile by 50% It can also infect units and traders, which may spread the plague to tiles they're on. Its rate of spread is sped up in high population cities. It is slowed down aqueducts. Renaissance: Independence Rebellions - Cities on other continents will begin to want to rebel and stay as a free city. This desire increases during the crisis. It can be lowered through normal means as well as spending a unit in the cities to crackdown on the rebels. This will, however, lead to a higher independence desire and unhappiness. Industrial: Labor Strikes - Periodically, labor unions in your civilization will rise up and demand reforms. You can either give into the demands, which could reduce the number of actions per builder, lower productivity of industrial zones, or could be a flat gold per turn payment. Alternatively, you can ignore their demands, which will lead to more, harsher demands in the future. Eventually, the unions will have enough and spawn rebels from industrial zone and city centers. Modern: Global War - When a war is declared in the modern era, it has a chance to call in neighboring civilizations based on the CB used. They will then have to pick a side, or stay neutral, which would result in unhappiness in their cities. Atomic: Arms Race - Civilization will join blocs depending on the third tier government they have. If a bloc has significantly more WMDs then their rivals, they gain bonus influence and movement speed for units and traders. However, government changing in this period will cause always anarchy, and might start a war within the bloc. Information: Global Warming - A carbon index keeps track of the amount of factories, power plants, coal mines, and oil wells in the world. If this index gets too high, improvments may get pillaged, and deserts may expand. You can combat this by getting rid of those improvements as well as performing carbon cleanup projects in your cities. I'm not sure how the balancing would work with these, or how they would impact the golden/dark age system, but I thought they might add some extra spice, especially in the late game. Posted: 21 Mar 2018 01:31 PM PDT Disclaimer: I'm a noob at strategy games. Civ V is the first and only strategy game I've ever played and enjoyed, and I have barely 300hrs in it. The highest difficulty I've ever played on and won is King. Also, I don't currently own the Rise and Fall DLC. So I've been enjoying Civ V every now and then, on a very casual level. And most of the time I'd end up repeating the pattern I became comfortable with: Build a small empire (usually just 3-4 cities), focus on food, food, food, and eventually win the game either through diplomacy, domination, or science. However, all the things I used to do in Civ V seem to be counter-productive in Civ VI.
So, as you can see, I'm not very good at this game at all. And I'm finding the differences from V to VI a lot bigger than I expected, which in turn has left me feeling even more noob. Hell, I'm struggling at Chieftain at the moment. So what am I supposed to do? Accept that I have to build more cities? Focus less on wonders? Just leave a counter-spy in my capital and forget about spying, as it obviously just hurts diplomatic relations anyway? Recruit every Or just say fuck it, go back to Civ V, and feel slightly less noobish? I'm at a loss. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2018 01:06 AM PDT Ai never realizes to change strategy to Medieval Era because the condition is set to Classical Era. In Victories.xml look for <Row StrategyType="STRATEGY_MEDIEVAL_CHANGES" ConditionFunction="Is Classical"/> [link] [comments]

What is a civ that you would like to see added that hasn't been in any of the games? Posted: 21 Mar 2018 08:02 PM PDT I personally would love to see Thrace added. They held their own against the Greeks even when split into separate tribes. [link] [comments]
I still play Civ II, stuff like this keeps me playing... Posted: 21 Mar 2018 12:17 PM PDT So It's getting late in the game, other Civs have nukes and they are getting bold with the usage of them. Last turn my poor city of Toledo got wrecked by and English nuke. So naturally what was the next message to appear when my next turn began? "We love the council day being celebrated in Toledo". I guess the 3 remaining citizens really like me [link] [comments]

Civ6 Opinion: I miss when mini maps didn't show your borders over Lakes and Coasts Posted: 21 Mar 2018 06:48 PM PDT I liked being able to see country outlines and not just a blob of solid colour. Bring back mini maps with coasts outlined! [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Mar 2018 05:49 PM PDT I haven't been able get the new Civ still, so what are the best mods to make Civ V more interesting? Not saying I don't like it, but I have like 300 hours of it and it gets kinda repetitive. I am looking for realistic mods, game mechanic additions, etc. No fantasy mods. [link] [comments]
How is the Civilization games multiplayer for two people? Posted: 21 Mar 2018 07:44 PM PDT Me and my brother love civ games but never played multiplayer we got another pc and was thinking of playing it but what do you do and how does it work [link] [comments]
(Civ V) Does the +25% tile improvement rate apply to Archaeologists? Posted: 21 Mar 2018 11:27 AM PDT Noticed in Civ V that Archaeologists are referred to as a "special subtype of Worker". That being said, does the +25% tile improvement bonus from building the Pyramids apply to them? [link] [comments]
What is the most Dystopian game you have ever had? Posted: 21 Mar 2018 08:38 AM PDT The legendary game that lasted ten years was intensely horrifying, nuclear holocaust, ice caps melted, constant war, drained recourses, frontlines a constant stalemate, troops always nuked when being mobilized, the works... this got me thinking about how dystopian i can be when i want to be... and when others want to be. Posted: 21 Mar 2018 05:36 PM PDT Why is it that taking over a city makes you a warmongerer but nobody cares if you spend 200 years doing nothing but pillaging tiles over and over when they get rebuilt? 3 civs asked me to declare war on Spain because they're being dicks so by the time even Ghandi was asking me I decided to do something about it. I went over and started pillaging all their tiles and everyone is fine about it. Yet I'll get a huge penalty if I actually take anything over. 5/13 civs nearby have a declaration of friendship, the others are all neutral but Spain, should I take their capital over? I has like 5-6 incense, plus my religious buildings get a bonus from it. Will I lose my friends and be hated for the next century like my last game? [link] [comments] |
