Japan's Battle Gateway 19 (ft. SFAT, aMSa, Rudolph, Shippu, Sheik, Plata, and more) is happening TONIGHT. Here's what you need to know

Battle Gateway is Japan's first major regional of 2018 (one-day) and it features an impressive list of talent in Japan that we rarely see in one tournament.

Who is and isn't coming?

Well the real name of this tournament is obviously SFAT who came to Japan for whatever reason (presumably for BGW). But we also have many names featured on the newest PR for Japan. For example, we have obvious household names like aMSa and Rudolph, well-known bosses in Shippu, and some hidden bosses like Japan's up and coming Falcon Nagaimo, the new Yoshi on the block Plata, and the elusive top Japanese player who enters once in a blue moon, Sheik.

We have plenty of talent, but unfortunately some couldn't make it. Gucci was originally signed up but had to cancel for unknown reasons. Sanne tried to make it but signed up too late and was hit by the attendance cap. Other players such as Kounotori, Zoma, Tapioka, and Nanashi are all the way in West Japan, a good many hours from this tournament in East Japan. And for those not in the know, Yu no longer lives in Japan.

That being said, this is still one of the most stacked tournaments Japan has had since half a year ago, and it'll be a treat to watch.

What are the stories in Japan?

If you haven't already seen it, this is the newly released Japanese Rank for 2017. Just with a cursory glance, you might notice some interesting narratives. Rudolph is no longer in first, and he's hungry to get that spot again as number 1. Did you know that the last time these two faced was almost a full year ago in March 2017? aMSa got the better of him last time. Hopefully we will see this heated rivalry in action once again.

Besides that, a lot of players here are looking for SFAT's head. Besides Rudolph and aMSa, SFAT's toughest competition at this tourney, he'll have to watch out for players like Shippu, Nagaimo, and Sheik, three hidden bosses who don't get many opportunities to shine against foreign players. He may also have to watch out for Plata, who might try to exploit SFAT's weakness to Yoshi. Darkatma, a fellow NorCal player, traveled to Japan no too long ago, and he was upset by this Yoshi upstart.

Okay dude how do I watch this tourney

The tournament itself should start streaming around 10:00 pm ET/7:00 pm PT, but the final bracket should occur around 11-12 pm ET/8-9 pm PT.

I don't know if VGBC is streaming it this time. If you can't find it on their channel, then the next best place to look is aMSa's twitch channel.
