I kept a "captain's log" for my five-year colony. Posted: 02 Feb 2018 02:16 PM PST Day 1-39 3 survivors crashland. Lark, Violet, Freja, + 1 doggo Set up camp. Wooden building, field with potatoes Soon get cozy bedrooms, freezer, nice rec room Lark: Builder and doctor. Violet: Farmer and cook. Freja: Soldier/hunter and researcher. All is well Violet contracts sensory mechanites. These persist for a very long time. Annoying. Tribe attacked, Lark and Violet deep asleep. Freja captured, never to be seen again. Got a few smokeleaf joints from a raider. Used up quickly. Progression very difficult without researcher. Produced beer! Have a feeling that'll be useful. Both Lark and Violet sleep a ridiculous amount. Also have a good amount of animals: boars, muffaloes, an alpaca, and a timber wolf Day 39-59 Violet finally cured of mechanites. Did cause us to run out of medicine in the middle of winter, however. Built rooms for a workshop and a lab, but have no-one to do research since Freja was captured. A single raider comes. Both Violet and Lark refuse to wake up, so he ends up burning down almost the entire base, including all food supplies. I really hate this "Deep Sleeper" trait. Day 59-130 Had to slaughter all boars and muffaloes for food. However, repair operations are proceeding. Got lucky! Escape pod crashed, and we now have a third member: Lau. Unfortunately can't research, but another hand around the place will be useful. And then Lau dies from an infection. Shit. Violet and Lark are lovers! I mean, Lark is 30 and Violet is 16, so that's a bit creepy.. but hey, passive mood buffs! Base is finally fully repaired! Things are looking up Lark breifly contracts the bubonic plague. Violet buys some medicine from a passing caravan, and as a result he pulls through easily. Violet and Lark are engaged. That didn't take very long. Sapper comes with molotovs. Half of base, including all food supplies, burns down AGAIN. Violet and Lark are married :) Repairs completed AGAIN. Managed to capture a prisoner (Black), and a wanderer (Skye) joined! Good stuff. Black recruited! Colony now has 4 members, and FINALLY a researcher. Built a new set of bedrooms in case of future recruits, and started growing some drugs. Also built a bunch more solar panels Volcanic winter starts. Looks like we're only going to get one harvest this year, if that. Installed sunlamps to allow crops to grow. Harvest will be delayed, but at least we'll get one. Raid comes. Black is captured. Colony now back to three members, and no researcher. Blight. The world really wants me not to get a single harvest. And now, toxic fallout. RNJesus hates me. Day 130-185 New colonist arrives in escape pod! Excellent at cooking and construction, but most importantly a slightly competent researcher. Let's hope Petra doesn't get kidknapped like the last two. Also, we have a truly ridiculous amount of smokeleaf and psychoid leaves now. Lark is ALMOST kidknapped by tribespeople, but Skye snipes his captor at the last second. Beautiful. Also, we got another prisoner! Flake production online! Plus, we got a gold meteorite, so we'll be rolling in silver the next time a caravan comes. Skye was killed and eaten by a grizzly bear. Grr. Skye was quickly replaced by Jaquelyn. Yay? Day 185-234 +1 member! Karti: Miner Colony swarmed by snowhares during a heatwave. Many colonists mauled, but the wolves cleaned up the hares pretty handily. Some colonists got dangerous infections, and many collapsed due to heatstroke, but all pulled through in the end. Flake production is starting to bring in money. Raids are getting larger and better-equipped. Searching desperately for compacted machinery - need components for autodoors and genetic engineering lab. Got another prisoner recruit. Renamed to "Janitor". Now have 7 colonists. Have come a long way from when it was just Lark and Violet. First ever mayoral elections being held. Candidates are Karti and Petra. Karti wins the elections. By this time our pack has grown quite large: 7 timber wolves and 3 huskies. Milestone: Current state of colony: Six bedrooms, one freezer, one hospital w/ sterile tile, genetic engineering lab, good workshop, lots of storage space, autodoors, plenty of food, all colonists "Content" or higher (smokeleaf is the best). Good stuff! Opened up Ancient Danger. One Scyther, a bunch of Crawlers, some nice artefacts, Lucy, and some crysleep pods. ACCIDENTALLY DELETED 40 DAYS OF THE LOG Highlights Day 234-274 Colony attacked by rampaging deer. Jaquelyn dies of an infection. First colonist buried in sarcophogous. New wanderer joins: Amelia. Bought a nice new bionic eye for Lark, who has somehow ended up blind. Genetic lab up and running, abominations left and right. Truly ridiculous smokeleaf and psychoid harvests. Rey at some point got brain-damaged. Put her on Luciferim. Elections are on. Candidates are Violet and Rey. Opened up cryosleep caskets in Ancient Danger. Bunch of nasties, but the wolves took care of them handily. Day 274-292 Got ourselves a wolfbear. God, that thing is meaty. Violet wins the elections. Large raid comes. No colonists die, but the wolfbear and a couple wolves do. Boo :( Planning expansions: a dedicated common area and a barn. Somewhat limited by the retaining wall, but I can always move part of it if necessary (or build concentric walls.) Rey gets bitten to death by bears that she and Amelia tried to hunt. THE BEGINNING OF THE END. Good amount of base burns due to exploding boomsquirrels. Also, food shortages. Entire colony either downed, dead, or on a mental break. Janitor goes on drug binge and gets herself addicted to flake. Another raid comes. Amelia is shot to death. ANOTHER raid comes. Lark is killed. Janitor starves to death. Colonists start resorting to cannabilism. Violet goes catatonic. Petra decides to give her friends a quick end, euthanises them, then commits suicide by wolf. END [link] [comments] |

Anyway to get my pets to eat prisoners while they are still alive? Posted: 02 Feb 2018 08:55 AM PST After raids, I've begun storing all the raiders I don't want (or who died before I could save them) in a freezer and pulling out one every few days to store in the barn with my meat eating pets. After a few days I'll cremate what ever remains of the body and pull another out. But normally I'm throwing away over half a body. If I could keep the raiders alive for at least a day or two before the pets finish them off then my pets might be able to consume the entire body before it rots. Any options or mods available?
