Posted: 20 Feb 2018 12:42 PM PST Is it just me that thinks that a nether rework for 1.14 is an awesome idea? I've not seen anyone else mention it. Just feel like the nether's a bit of wasted potential, I mean it's a whole other dimension surely it could have more to offer. Different biomes, mobs and structures like NetherEx but in vanilla would be so cool. [link] [comments]

Phantoms should dropp coffee beans... Posted: 20 Feb 2018 03:38 PM PST ...which can be made (brewed?) into coffee (Potion of Espresso?) that can be drunk to reset your insomnia timer, that way Phantoms have a drop that is directly related to them and gives you a good reason to stay up and hunt them. AI Settlement Generation Competition in Minecraft Posted: 20 Feb 2018 05:14 PM PST Hi, I am a scientist working at the NYU game innovation lab. We have just announced our first challenge in the GDMC (Generative Design in Minecraft) framework. The Settlement Generation Challenge is about writing an algorithm that can create a settlement for a given, unknown Minecraft map. The challenge is to produce an algorithm that is adaptive towards the provided map, creates a settlement that satisfies a range of functional requirement - but also looks good and evokes an interesting narrative. The goal is to basically produce an algorithm that can rival the state of the art of what humans can produce. If you are interested in participating, you can find a framework and example agents on our GitHub [ https://github.com/mcgreentn/GDMC ] page. Rules and detailed judging criteria can be found on our webpage [ http://gendesignmc.engineering.nyu.edu/ ]. The basic idea is that all submitted algorithms will be run on three, previously unseen, maps, and the results will then be evaluated by our advisory board. The submission deadline is the 30th of June, and results will be announced at the Foundations of Digital Games conference (FDG 2018) in August, as well as online. Submissions will open soon. You can find more info on our website at http://gendesignmc.engineering.nyu.edu/. Also, you can follow us on Twitter (@GenDesignMC) for updates and announcements. Posted: 20 Feb 2018 02:39 PM PST After the Minecon Mob vote results came in, I saw a really good comment. To paraphrase it: "The disappointment came from the fact that all of these mobs added something the game desperately needed. Mob A was underwater content, Mob B was just unique in general, Mob C made enchanting more interesting, and Mob D made The Nether more dangerous for long-time players. The fact that we only get one is a kick in the teeth for everyone who wanted the other mechanics to be expanded on." Hopefully this survey can get a good look at what the community thinks Survival Minecraft needs more of. [link] [comments]
