An Update on the Current Ranked Season

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:32 PM PST

Oh, a piece of candy!

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:34 AM PST

Voice chat isn't evil, people who abuse it are - Reworking the report system is necessary

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 08:00 AM PST

Blaze plush concept because I really want this to be a thing

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 11:30 AM PST

Was testing Maiev in PTR and the AI decided to have a Medievh sheep party for 2 whole minutes rather than try to win the game.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:02 AM PST

The report system is fundamentally broken, and it's having a serious negative effect on the game.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 11:06 AM PST

So I just played two games in a row. In both matches, I was inexplicably matched with the same game ruiner. He over-extended, fed mercilessly, and talked vile trash to the team the entire time. He was reported by our entire team the first time, and then the second time. Why was I queued with this person? I performed very well in both matches (I had over 80% kill participation, only died once each time, and had massive healing numbers), whereas in both matches the other guy fed, did little damage, and talked trash. Why was I queued with him twice in a row?

This is also not the first time something like this has happened. Multiple times, I have been queued with someone for a second or third time, someone who consistently ruins games. Over the months, I see them pop up over and over again, never silenced, never banned, always ruining games and getting mass reported for feeding. Why? How is this even vaguely possible? This is ruining the game for me....it's making it really hard to enjoy. There are no consequences for reporting, either for the person who reports (which ends up getting innocent people silenced, like Grubby), or, apparently, for the people reported. Overhaul your system, because it's nonsense like this that drove me (and others, even big names like Dunkey) away from League of Legends.

Right now, the system seems to be there simply to make people feel better when they get queued with the same horrible person multiple times in a row. That, and to get people silenced for...well, for trying to communicate.

Please overhaul this system and make it work, because it's ruining the game right now. There should never be a situation in which someone deliberately feeds multiple times to "punish" his teammates, and suffers zero consequences for it. There should never be a situation in which someone gets falsely silenced, but it happens far too often. Your attempts to create an automated system have completely failed. Hire some staff, pay them to oversee reports, and fix the system as a whole. DOTA 2 has it's issues, but the limiting of the number of available reports has improved the game so much, simply because Valve is able to actually check in on many of the reports, and most of them are very reasonable because people don't want to waste them. Please consider this.

Why did Tyrande not get any compensation at all for losing stealth on Shadowstalk?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:01 PM PST

Every other stealth hero in the game got something to compensate for the removal of stealth, shouldn't shadowstalk at least get a lower cd or some passive aa damage boost or something? This combined with the support nerfs really put her in an odd place.

HL is fun. I love it.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 03:56 PM PST

HL is simply fun. The level of competition is astounding, with the 8 kill assassin on my team (usually tracer) killing everyone else while we deep into a fort and destroy it. I was placed in Gold 5 and climbed to Gold 1 and there's just so many games with people on my team that have 8-10+ assists and carry the game. 95% of the Varians in my games will take taunt and colosus smash, even when I tell them to take twin blades to have a little fun. People always soak in the side lanes in the beginning and will frequently listen to my pings to side soak. It's just so wonderful.

I like this game and have no problem winning if it's a great match or the other team played very well. But when my teammates dive 5v5, wait for 10 to fight into 10, soak like bosses, and then say nice things, I'm sorry but I just have to say that I LOVE HL. Does anyone else feel this way?

Funny enough, I have a way worse time and experience in Quickmatch and to a lesser extent in Unranked. I don't know if it's because I have a lower MMR in QM that the overall quality of my games are worse (despite the team comps being a fiesta most of the time), or the fact that people are way more toxic. I just think ranked brings out the best in people, and It's very nice to play your best and have people in your team in HL carry constantly and give the enemy team the beating of their lives. The coordination and beauty of HL is simply unmatched!

So im just gonna stick with HL and if I have some friends on TL, maybe also there. But never Quick Match/Unranked Draft game modes. QM/UD for me just isn't worth it. Good luck on your QM/UD games but you wont see me there!

Long live Hero League.

Please Blizzard, put an "I am ready" button before starting the match.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 12:25 AM PST

I guess most of you guys knows what I mean, like LoL and Dota have. Sometimes finding a match may take longer and people leave their screens for doing other things etc. An "Ok, I am ready, take me to the draft screen" button would help to the game imo. This way, the number of missing bans and "a player have left the match" errors during draft phase would drastically reduce, if not preventing them completely.

Edit: Fixed some context.

Edit2: WoW also have the exact system when you queue for the Dungeons. For raids and bg's it works a little bit relaxed tough due to pool size/flex system.

Edit3: I see one thing people agree on in this topic is "we should be returned to the front of the queue if someone dodges the draft screen". This can be a button or a system, does not matter (I still would not mind a button, but some people does)

Could percentage of health damage have a different color?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 09:12 AM PST

Right now it's purple, same as spell damage. Physical damage is orange, red on amplified. Spell damage is purple with white borders when amplified, healing is obviously green and shielding is white. But could percent health damage have a different color indicator? The reason I ask is because every time you auto attack someone with giant killer, you see spell damage popping up which is kind of odd on heroes that do almost no spell damage like Raynor or Artanis.

Since percent health damage is also true damage(ignores armor), maybe it could be bright white? Or black with a white border or white with a black border to distinguish from shields. For those who don't know the interaction between armor and % health damage the current purple color could be quite confusing. Especially since in similar games armor reduces % health damage.

Appreciation for Blizzard's awareness of spoilers for HGC

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:36 AM PST

I just wanted to take a second to appreciate how much Blizzard has been paying attention to helping people avoid spoilers when watching their HGC VoDs on Twitch. They've been getting better as the season goes on, and at this point they:

  • Post 5 videos labeled games 1-5 for every series, so that you can't tell at a glance if the game ends early.
  • Use clips from previous games for any videos that don't actually have a game associated with them, and crop them to arbitrary lengths, so you can't tell by looking at the length if it's a real game or a decoy video.
  • Pad videos of the real games with footage from later stuff, so you can't tell by the length of the video how early the game ends.

Clearly it's still possible to spoil it for yourself by looking through video previews and such, but for people like me who like to avoid spoilers, it's made it super easy.

HL is frustrating, I'm out

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:37 AM PST

HL is simply frustrating. The level of toxicity is astounding, with the 8 death assassin blaming everyone else for everything while he solo pushes deep into a fort. I was placed in Gold 1 and dropped to Gold 5 and there's just so many games with people that have 8-10+ deaths. 95% of the Varians will take twin blades, even when you tell him to take taunt or even colosus smash. People ignore the soak in the side lanes in the beginning and will frequently ignore my pings to side soak.

I like this game and have no problem losing if it's a great match or the other team played very well. But when my teammates dive 1v5, fight pre-10 into 10, ignore soak, and then be toxic, I'm sorry im out.

Funny enough, I have a way better time and experience in Quickmatch and to a lesser extenet in Unranked. I don't know if it's because I have a higher MMR in QM that the overall quality of my games are better (despite the team comps being a fiesta most of the time), or the fact that people are way less toxic. I just think ranked brings out the worst in people, and It's very disheartening to play your best only to have 2 people on your team die constantly and give the enemy team a huge xp lead.

So im just gonna stick with QM, Unranked and if I have some friends on TL, I have way more fun in these game modes. HL for me just isn't worth it. Good luck on your HL climbs but you wont see me there!

Rejected Heroes of the Storm Talents

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:02 PM PST

I've managed to datamine some HOTS talents that never got put into the game! For your speculating pleasure:

  • Sentinel Delivery Sentinel continues onward… into another ongoing game.

  • Applied Topology Telekinesis moves the target along a space-filling curve with an additional iteration for every 3% sadism gained from takedowns.

  • Extended Blindness Monitors of those affected by Sleep Dart have their brightness reduced to 10 for 2 seconds.

  • Stuck in a (Stuck in a (Stuck in a (…)))) Temporal Loop teleports the target an nth time after the nth-1 time after the nth-2 time…after the initial time, where n is the number of times Temporal Loop has been cast this game.

  • XXX-Strike X-Strike permanently censors any part of the battleground it touches.

  • Prestigious Egg When Murky dies, a bunch of electrical bolts flash wildly around him (this has no effect). Passive: Murky now has a 50% chance to break free from a tank filled with water at his point of death instead of spawning from his egg.

  • Discussion-Topic Armor Damage against D.Va's Mech that would deal 4% or less of its maximum health causes the enemy to inwardly reflect about his or her relatively ineffective actions. Put yourself in the shoes of the shooter. How would you feel in this situation? At what percentage would your feelings change? Do you think the pilot is concerned by these types of attacks or considers them to be more of an insult? How does your answer change with a different L7 talent? Finally, write a short narrative essay detailing the thoughts of a support that watches this exchange from a safe position.

  • Hover Difficulty Ragnaros can move at 40% movement speed while in ultimate form. //The hero for this talent got covered up by one of Dustin's fountain ink pen splotches on a piece of scratch paper. I'm going to throw it here; it's possible that this was meant for someone else.

  • Delete Me Eventua Scatter Arrow slows to 10% projectile speed after its duration and then continues indefinitely.

  • Soft-core Only Li-Ming's cooldowns are reduced by 90%, to a minimum of 0.5 seconds. Passive: Li-Ming's maximum life becomes 1.

  • Epic Team Pop If 4 or more friendly heroes are in the radius of Reverse Amp at the end of its duration, its duration is then doubled, and Lucio's voice lines are replaced with that of a woman's doing impersonations of him for the first time.

  • Triple Tap 2.0 You're the NUMBER. ONE. PLAYER. KILLER. HERO. for a reason. Triple Tap's shots combine into one, can no longer be blocked by heroes or structures, and will revolve around its target until the hero has less HP than the amount of damage it deals.

  • Protection-Jammer-Cancellor-Mitigator Inhibitors Allows damage on a target to get through Protection-Jammer-Cancellor Mitigators for 10 seconds. Does not affect ongoing Protection-Jammer Cancellors or ongoing Protection Jammers or Protection itself.

  • 3rd Opinion of Johan's Chain Grenade Alan, please stop trying to revive dead talents Hitting 3 or more Heroes with Displacement Grenade causes each of the hit heroes to be pulled toward the grenade's center and an additional 3-second timed grenade to be spawned on each hero affected. Any secondary grenades that hit 2 or more heroes repeat the process.

  • Crypto Armor Armor Up can be activated to 'bank' current armor, reducing it to zero and causing further armor calculations to treat Garrosh's health at the time of banking as if it were 100% until his health rises above that value. Each armor banked yields 10 million guesses at a random hash function that needs to start with 30 zeroes. Whenever banking armor yields a correct guess or after 1 billion guesses fail, whichever occurs first, Garrosh will be granted a permanent +1 Armor separate from the banking mechanic that persists through death.

  • Trul y Homf y Fun damentally alter the keming beyo nd all re pair of all l etters on all scree ns for al l pla yer s affe cted by Homfy this gam e and t he nex t.

  • Mutter of the Bewildered King If Leoric is riding a pink mount, change all his voice lines and taunts to the phrase "I didn't ask for this."

If you find any rejected HOTS talents, please post them below!

Shout out to Blizzard's flexible take on ults

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:50 PM PST

HotS has always been a game about questioning the norm and pushing the limits of the MOBA genre. Lately, I've been loving the direction they've taken in regards to what is considered a hero's "ultimate" ability.

Usually, these are high-CD, high-impact abilities you receive around the mid-game. This is the way other MOBAs do it, this is the way HotS has done it. But lately, what would usually be considered an ult is being added baseline, and ults can now be abilities than round out a hero's kit in powerful ways.

One of my favorites of these is D.Va. Realistically, she gets her ult at level 1. I think we can all agree that Self-Destruct is an ult-level ability. Compare this to taking Big Shot. Big Shot is a basic ability in every way that matters other than when you get it in the game. Even Bunny Hop, which is more on-par with other ults in the game, is more of a means of rounding out her kit than giving her an "ultimate".

Other heroes kind of get two ultimates, like Ragnaros. His trait is ult-level. But he can also get Sulfuras Smash or Lava Wave. This is awesome and totally lends to his feeling of being a raid boss. Now we have heroes like Blaze and Alexstrasza, who also both have traits reminiscent of an ult.

Some may look at this and think of it as power/complexity creep, but they manage to keep these heroes in line. It adds to them feeling close to their lore, and shows a flexibility on the designers' part that is what sets HotS apart from other MOBAs for me.

I know quickplay isn't the place for completely balanced comps, but why is this possible?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 02:14 PM PST

I played in this game yesterday. Usually when I pick assassin my team never gets a healer, but this game everyone on my team was a healer. That's 4 support players who could've improved 4 different games, but instead they were all put in one losing game. I don't understand how matchmaking works, this can't possibly be intended.

My Case for a Lunara Mini-rework

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 11:38 AM PST

I've played Lunara quite a bit since she was first released, and I really love her overall sustain damage and poke design. Right now, she is in a pretty balanced spot being neither to good or bad and has her place in certain matches where she won't be an easy target.

However, with Lunara, I have always been bothered by her level 1 and 4 talent tiers. The reason being that these tiers seem to have little impact on how Lunara plays and also on her power-level in general. With Lunara, I don't get excited to pick a talent until level 7 and even then I could argue that her talents feel pretty meh.

To make matters worse, her level 1 and 4 talents do not have a great pick diversity at all. According to hotlogs.com for HL pick rates we have: Level 1:
Blossom Swell 24.9 % Photosynthesis 7.9 % Natural Perspective 59.5 % Cruel Spores 7.7 %

Level 4: Nimble Wisp 75.4 % Timelost Wisp 8.4 % Skybound Wisp 11.0 % Dividing Wisp 5.3 %

So Natural Perspective and Nimble Wisp are way outpicked. It is not surprising though since vision for aa's in bushes is not bad for a level one, and a wisp that can scout the enemy across the map in a few seconds is waaaaay more useful than anything else.

My suggestion to even out to pickrates of these two tiers and make them feel like they have impact is to do a mini-rework where level 4 wisp talents are moved to level one, and level one talents are scraped completely and replaced with new and interesting level 4 talents.

Sorry if this is a lot to read, but the paragraph above pretty much sums up my ideas along with the pick rate statistics from hotslogs.com.

Also wtf is Abolish Magic doing at 20? Let's move that thing to somewhere else or make it worth our time.

Respect the Raynor

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:21 AM PST

Raynor is a decent solo laner

  • His trait provides you with more vision, and a longer range than most. That means if you play "safe" and by safe I mean just keep an eye on the mini map, you can see ganks coming. If you're caught a bit short, knock 'em back and run. If you're caught too short, tough shit. You're an assassin. You'll die, unless the other team is bad.

    • Sub Tip: If you can't see all enemy team on the minimap, just assume they are coming to kill you. Play safe.
    • Being a solo laner does not mean your sole purpose is to push a lane to the enemy core. It just means you can clear fast, you're hard to kill, and can bully your opponent.
  • You have 3 jobs in the solo lane.

    • 1) Don't die
    • 2) Clear fast, if you can
    • 3) If you can't clear fast, Soak and survive

Solo Lane (you are the bully) to Midgame Powerhouse with other members that slow/stun

1) Seasoned - You hit harder

4) Focused - You hit harder

7) Clinic - You use your abilities more often, including your ult

10) Raiders - Fire and forget on a squishy

13) Giant - Tank Killer

16) Exectutioner - Everything Killer - Arthas is a good Raynor enabler at this point

20) Dusk - Win More

Solo Lane to Midgame Siege/Utility, in lane against a bully

1) Give Me More - Solo sustain

4) Focused - Still hit hard

7) Clinic - You use your abilities more often, including your ult

10) Hyperion - Seige

13) Steel Resolve - Pretty much constantly give your team and minion +15% attack speed

16) Executioner - I just like the talent. It's quite rare that the person you're trying to kill isn't at least slowed.

20) Scorched - Seige harder

Solo lane to Midgame Survivor, you're being hunted

1) Give Me More - More self sustain

4) Relentless Leader; Particularly good against butcher, for a while, also cools down your Adrenaline Rush for a big heal.

7) Clinic - You use your abilities more often, including Adrenaline Rush | or Fight or Flight, to mitigate burst. Both are decent choices.

10) Hyperion - Fuck off

13) Double Barrelled - Fuck off

16) Bullseye - Fuck off

20) Frenzy - Fuck right off

Solo Lane to Midgame enemy team annoyer

1) Seasoned - You hit harder

4) Confident aim - Big penetrating rounds cooldown if you're good at what you do

7) Clinic - More cooldowns for penetrating rounds

10) Raiders - An annoyance

13) Double-Barreled - Now you have two penetrating rounds

16) Cluster - Now it's easier to hit your penetrating rounds and they do more damage

20) Dusk - Make your annoyances infuriating to deal with

Quick and likely incorrect maths.

Penetrating round - 12 second cooldown baseline

Confident Aim - Reduces the cooldown by 4 to 8 seconds

Clinic - Each enemy minion damaged by Raynor that dies reduces Cooldowns (across the board) by 1.5 seconds

Double-Barreled - Two charges. 4 second cooldown if you hit your mark, 3 minions have to die that you've damanged to get your
charge back.

Just try it.

Deathball enabler, survivabilty

1) Give Me More - Survive

4) Relenetless - If you get dived on or rooted, you bounce everyone away

7) Clinic - Cooldown on Inspire

10 )Hyperion - AOE

13) Resolve - Constant inspire for deathball

16) Cluster - Honestly at 16 just pick what you want at the time

20) Scorched - More AOE

Deathball enabler, bouncer

1) Seasoned

4) Confident Aim - Get the enemy AWAY FROM MY DEATH BALL

7) Clinic - Cooldown on inspire

10) Hyperion - AOE

13) Resolve - Constant inspire

16) whatever you want

20) Scorched

Deathball enabler, Damage dealer

1) Seasoned

4) Focused

7) Clinic

10) Hyperion

13) Resolve

16) whatever

20) Scorched

If nothing else, use Clinic more. It's great. Much, much stronger than Overdrive if you ask me.

Current Situation of the HGC ANZ Preseason Qualifiers

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:14 AM PST

The purpose of this post is to highlight to the community of the current poor situation the ANZ Hots scene is in and to hopefully in future allow the ANZ Hots region to receive more equitable judgement regarding the breaking of rules.

The HGC ANZ Preseason Qualifiers is intended to discover the remaining 5 teams which will join Crimson/Nomia/Outlaws (previously NMD) in the ANZ HGC Premier Division which the top 2 teams will be awarded the opportunity to compete in the HGC Intercontinental Clash. This information can be found at

https://esports.heroesofthestorm.com/pt/news/21349307/a-new-era-for-hgc-anz-commences-in-2018

This dynamic tournament change in the ANZ scene has given hope and inspired many players as it has so far acted as a form of motivation for the region to improve as a whole. Furthermore this change in format which mimics the HGC systems in other regions acts as a sort of legitimacy & progression for players about the future of Hots in the Esports scene and its development in ANZ.

However, currently the ANZ HGC Preseason is only halfway through its tournament and already rules have been broken without any fair justice. Specifically rules regarding roster swaps and poaching have been disregarded as teams have acted in their own best intentions

Situation 1:

  • Dark Sided's new roster has been disbanded because of one player's actions; Hacky has decided to move from Dark Sided to join his previous teammates in the team Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqe0t0). Firstly this action has been deemed very inconsiderate as the remaining 4 players are now required to find a substitute player with less than 4 days until the tournament recommences. Moreover this act has also led to the withdrawal of an organisation from the ANZ Hots scene which may have assisted in the current development of various organisations in the scene this year. Although the main issue with this event is that this roster change has violated the rules of the tournament and no fair punishment for breaking an important rule has been delegated.

Specifically this violates the rules outlined here (http://www.gamestah.com/docs/HGC_ANZ_Rules_2018.pdf), which also do not delineate any form of banned skins or mounts further separating the ANZ Esports Scenes from other regions.

2.1 (b) Teams that participate in any official HGC Australian and New Zealand Finals league (including Preseason Qualifiers, Open Division and Premier) will not be allowed to change any of their Team members at any time during the course of an HGC ANZ Phase.

The current punishment that has been carried out is a deduction of 2 points from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which in many people's opinion's will ultimately change nothing as most of the top teams currently in the tournament have already fought against Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. (http://www.gamestah.com/2018/02/05/hgc-anz-competitive-ruling-mm-clubhouse/) Therefore various teams and players have expressed their opinions that this response to such a serious issue is not fair for the situation and despite discussion with the admins of the tournament, no further action has been taken.

Situation 2:

  • Nekomimi's team have been subjugated to the poaching of players. One of Nekomimi's teammate has been confirmed to be trialling for Outlaws (the team in the Premier division) which violates the rules and has even been suggested to deliberately throw his team's matches in order to bypass rules of the tournament. This is clear evident of poaching and match fixing.

2.1 (e) Players from within a team who has qualified for HGC ANZ Premier via either Preseason Qualifiers or the Promotion process as referred to in section 3.1(c) ("the Qualifying Team) will not be permitted to compete on behalf of any team other than the Qualifying Team for the duration of the Phase for which that team qualified ("the Qualified Phase").

2.1 (f) A Team who attempts to poach a player from a Qualifying Team prior to the conclusion of the Qualified Phase will be penalised. Such penalties may include deduction of points, withdrawal from the league and in the most serious instances, may be banned from competing in future HGC ANZ leagues and tournaments.

Consequently the community would naturally assume Outlaws should receive some sort of punishment for this action? Nope. Following a twitter announcement (http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqe4gl) no severe punishment from the admins was delegated despite violating the rule of "attempting to poach". In addition other players from Rich Gang have been asked by teams Outlaws and Salty Dogs Remastered after the tournament had already started - which breaches the poaching guidelines. Various players disagree with no such action against Outlaws being undertaken by the admins.

Situation 3:

  • Representatives from a current Premier division organisation are playing in the ANZ HGC Preseason Qualifier. This action violates the rules of players competing on behalf of other teams and questions various ethical concerns for other upcoming teams in the region. Although since it isn't breaking any real specific rules no major discussion has occurred.

Hence the current ANZ HGC Preseason Qualifiers is largely in shambles.

Overall this post is intended to highlight the lack of structure and continued underhanded actions performed in the ANZ region as rules are continually broken each tournament with no real punishment being delegated, and only having rulings "updated" for future tournaments. Hopefully these issues can be resolved now, however unlikely it may seem, as it may allow the ANZ Hots Esports Scene to develop and prosper in the future, although based on previous efforts made by admins with each tournament - no such action is ever made.
