Assault on the Control Room's description is a bit...misleading.

Playing Halo 3: ODST for the first time this past weekend, first encounter with Hunters was legit kinda scary

Posted: 20 Feb 2018 10:44 AM PST

Loving the feel of not playing as a Spartan, as the Covenant are all so much scarier. Encountered my first set of Hunters while playing yesterday and a Hunter came through a small doorway that I was not expecting, literally gave me the same type of fear feeling I get while playing Alien Isolation, which was awesome! Makes me feel like I am in one of the Halo books. If you don't have good weapons, even a small group of grunts can require tactical skill and patience (on Legendary). Really enjoying the campaign so far.

So I finally caved and bought one of the Mattel halo figures. And while the quality is to be desired I still think it’s a cool figure and I’ll probably display it on my shelf or my desk.

Why we shouldn't defend REQ boxes, even if they are a lesser evil

Posted: 20 Feb 2018 11:28 AM PST

Ever since Halo 5 came out a pretty sizeable portion of the fanbase has defended REQ boxes and even pushed for Halo 6 to reimplement them. I just want to outline why they are still evil. REQ boxes have -

  • Ruined armor customization and progression. Reach had a pretty great system where armour was progression based. Each armor piece was wonderfully designed by Bungie and actually made people proud to unlock them. In Halo 5, they've gone for the quantity, not quality approach to justify all the RNG unlocks. It's simply not a fun or gratifying way to unlock armor. Reach had a great system, but REQ boxes will guarantee we'll never see that system again.

  • Ruined emblem customization. Same as above. Before, Halo would let us choose from all emblem types from the very beginning. It prioritized player choice and letting people create the same emblem for themselves or their clan. It's almost as if fans have forgotten this key feature because REQ crates have conditioned us to grind for these unlocks.

  • It's desensitizing us. The whole point of REQ boxes is to numb the fanbase to lootboxes, to removing key halo features. The cosmetic side of lootboxes are completely changing our expectations of armor unlocking in future Halo games, and the Warzone unlocks serve to numb us to non-cosmetic unlocks. Before it was "Loot boxes are fine as long as they're always cosmetic" now with Halo 6 it's "okay, non-cosmetic unlocks are fine, just make sure they're not effecting ranked modes and are only in Warzone". The gradual retreat of our tolerance for this nonsense is painfully obvious.

  • Microsoft has convinced us that lootboxes are a necessary evil for free map packs. But did Halo 5 really push the envelop as far as free content is concerned? It started out with one of the weakest map rosters and Forge unfinished, and it slowly regained the content it should have had at launch years later. Halo 3 may have had map packs, but the starting content was already good enough to match Halo 5 even after many free updates. After the Battlefront 2 fiasco, EA has admitted that lootboxes dont impact their bottom line - Microsoft is clearly big enough that REQ crates dont impact their bottom line either. They can afford to have no REQ crates and free maps. I think this attitude has made 343 lazy when it comes to launch content, because they think "we'll just make up for it with free updates down the line!"

TL;DR - REQ boxes have ruined armor and emblem progression/customization, they've desensitized us so we don't care about loss of features, they've convinced us they're a necessary evil for free map packs when the EA fiasco proves that to be false.

We should be doing everything in our power to get rid of REQs in Halo 6, not defending it as a lesser evil.

A little compilation of the most beautiful sceneries of Halo I did a couple years ago. These games have the best skyboxes that inspired me at that time.

I have played Halo 3 for over 10 years, and did not know until yesterday you could 1v1 the Brute Chieftain on The Ark.

Tsquared vs. Walshy

Who was/is the better Halo player?

Both are very similar in my opinion. As both are objectived-based players rather than slayers however, both are very talented in all areas of the game. Both also signed similar MLG contracts in the early days of Halo eSports - pioneers of Halo eSports if you want to call it that.

DAE ever get really sad when they are playing with a squad of marines and they all get wiped out until you are the only one left?

Posted: 20 Feb 2018 04:18 PM PST

When I play Halo, I try and keep as many of my NPC buddies alive as I can, but I can never seem to keep any of them alive for more than few firefights. I just get really sad when I look back and see all of the dead friendlies, especially if they save me in combat (that happens occasionally) or they say some quick, character building dialogue (that happens all of the time). I am just curious if anyone else feels like this too.
