Fractal JP (Mistlock Mountaineer) Speedrun [17.41sec] | Unrestricted

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 10:39 AM PST

A bit overdue- Let's talk about the dungeon vendor.

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 10:22 AM PST

Really dislike the way that the interface is designed for the "dungeon armor and weapons" vendor in Lions Arch, I Preferred it more when you had all the merchants and their stalls up, back then Lions Arch was destroyed.

I know who's to blame for this. Scarlet. Now imagine if Scarlet never destroyed LA, we'd still have our awesome row of Dungeon Vendors. Thanks to Scarlet she not only crushed our dreams (Unless DE can turn this around), but due to the butterfly effect, she has created a Capitalist pseudo Lions Arch, and this one merchant put all the rest out of business.

It's just a hassle to have to go through a couple dialogue menus, and if you miss click, that's it. You have to quit the dialogue menu and continue your journey again trying to find your desired armors or weapons.

Either just put that vendor out of business. Or here's a good idea, have Joko invade LA this time, have them kill that npc and put her out of business, then boom. Vendors suddenly back in a business. Or maybe one of the local Skritt would pick up her wares.

If Joko does invade - this might be going a bit far - maybe Arena Net can then rebuild Lions Arch back to how it was in the first place, maybe with some twists but none of this modern stuff.

Old LA best LA

Moral of the story is, blame Scarlett, praise Joko!

Edit: Alot of debate about new LA this, old LA that, the point stands, that vendor needs to be assassinated.

PLEASE anet give us stat-selectable armor and weapons/trinkets to be used in training areas for testing purposes only

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 01:24 AM PST

Disclaimer: I really like this game and I play it regularly.

But if I had the chance to express only one critic about game-design choices in front of a anet developer, then I would talk about how badly the stats system affects the gameplay for me.

Stats choice in my eyes are core to the gameplay. They are fundamentally important for crafting pve builds, trying different play styles, etc etc. Yet they are locked behind recipes and some amount of gold to be spent EVEN JUST TO TRY them out and see if the results are worth the pain or not.

I mean, the problem isn't having to pay money to change stats (even if I don't like the idea per se), but is the fact that there is NO other way I can even test different combinations, if not by wasting money!

We do already have a awesome training room within the aerodrome, where people can try rotations and stuff. That's NICE.

Why not try adding some kind of features / a new room emulating PvE environment (HoT) where the player can temporarily borrow stat-selectable equipment (within the training istance only obviously) and do actual testing?

Edit: As suggested, this would also require being able to test / swap sigils!

Note: Yes I am aware of the existence of legendary equipment. That doesn't change anything.

Kurzick or Luxon?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 01:57 PM PST

Man I just had a huge flashback too the GW1 days picking a side you wanted to play on and joining AB matches and trash talking one another. Those were some good times! I remember I would grind AB for months and try to be the top donator in my guild lol, our guild leader would always pays us gold for how much we donated a week. Sometimes I wish I still played GW1. What side did you choose? I was always a Kurzick. Just always loved their gear.

My lag issues with GW2 solved

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 02:31 PM PST

TLDR: My ISP throttles upstream traffic which looks like sporadic lag spikes unless you dig deeper.

I have used modest DSL service for at 4 years, 18Mbps Down / 1.5 Mbps Up. It seems recently that they may have strengthened their throttle strategy. I was led to suspect this issue when I looked at the DSL router home page and saw that the 1 minute UP traffic byte total was close to (1.5M / 8 * 60). The tally on my PC network adapter for a 1 minute period wasn't close to this, so I had to get my son to recognize the issue too.

If you have lag issues, experiment with running a command like 'ping -t 8.8.8.8' (endlessly ping the google DNS server) in a command window. Keep shutting down applications one by one. Hopefully, you see an improvement along the way. Checking the adapter transfer counts is not to difficult, plus it's possible to use the Windows performance tools to see how much each application is sending/receiving in bytes.

My son and I started shutting down apps one at a time. When we finally got below the limit, traffic was smooth. We weren't doing anything crazy like torrenting or voicing. Just what we considered normal simple stuff. The biggest offender seemed to be leaving the Facebook page open in the background.

I used MultiPing(30-day free trial) to observe the following. When overloaded, once each minute the UP traffic is delayed until the volume falls below the threshold. While you are at the edge of this limit it appears as sporadic lag spikes but the occur at noticeable intervals. As you go higher, the 1-minute heartbeat of the throttle event becomes evident. As you go even higher, the throttling is so severe it was showing as a constant 1,000+ millisecond ping time.

Happy Gaming

Tips For Soulbeast / First Time At Max Level?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 01:27 PM PST

Any good general tips for playing Soulbeast? like guides or tips on what to do and not just gear? like do i charge right into battle or not? Also any tips for someone who just got to lvl 80? I'm doing the last main instance thing where you go in the underwater temple.

Currently switch between Dagger/Dagger and shortbow, but gonna change to long bow as it's the one i'm used to. I'm guessing I should focus on Power And Condition damage?

Just got to lvl 80 so I don't really know what i want to focus on. All I know is I like to shoot from afar to damage a lot of enemies then go in with melee for bosses/champion world events. Didn't like the sound of druid as it seemed to focus on healing and not fighting, don't really like the idea of playing support.

[CnD] The Holosmith: Updated Skill Spreadsheet! :3 (Nothing for Arithmophobes!)

Posted: 17 Feb 2018 09:12 PM PST

The Updated Skill Spreadsheet for the Holosmith is here!

Introduction

It has been a while but ... clears throat ... WAHOOOOOO!!! Ù©(ง●á´¥●)ง

Since the last time I've published my Engi sheets almost a year ago, a lot of patches and releases have passed and I've been silently updating my sheets for myself, patch by patch, piece by piece. Then, the Holosmith has been released and I suddenly recieved a huge amount of (HYPE!) new skills and values to work with. I also realized that it was time for a change...

It was at this point I decided to rework my whole spreadsheet, to create a new, practical, 100% precise spreadsheet, with the ability to adapt quickly, for all the future patches to come. I started to replace tooltip values with formulas, I've recorded every single skill and counted the frames to elaborate its exact cast time, I retested every CC skill to find it's exact CC value, heck, I even added healing values! I was and still am very happy to have my good friend [ok] Cat | /u/towelcat to help me especially with the hidden values, such as the weapon strength of the Photon Forge and what not. I started to socialize a lot more with [SC] Hintkei | /u/hintkei from Snow Crows, (more than just talking with him in his YouTube comments °3°) a very good Engineer and now friend of mine about the meta, party setups, gear, rotations, realistic buffs or conditions (on the enemy for the Modified Ammunition trait) and so he also had some sort of "early access" through me to the "Holosmith - Skill Spreadsheet" to give you the optimized Raid rotations.

I am very happy to finally publish my work again. However this time it might be a bit overwhelming to look at (Nothing for Arithmophobes!), as the spreadsheet has grown quite a lot since a year ago. But worry not! I will try to answer every single question you ask here and help you understand everything!

But I also have a very unhappy announcement to make... This time it's "only" the Power Holosmith spreadsheet. The Condi Engineer is currently in such a bad state, that not even I - an Engineer loving player since release (15k hours) - am able to consider it a viable build for Raids anymore. Dear /u/GaileGray, the Condi Engineer has an amazing and unique playstyle. It musn't die and really needs some help. I'd like to offer you my assistance for figuring out good changes. I have plenty of ideas how to bring the Condi Engineer back to life and I can exactly tell you what change will affect it's Raid DpS by what value. I also have plans on becoming a Game Designer myself in the future, so it's not just about buffing it as much as I can, I want to balance the Condi Engineer. :) I'd love to hear from you, thanks!

And all of the sudden - Wall'O'Text, sry 'bout that. :x

Skill Spreadsheets

Power Holosmith

Condi Engineer

A bit too much for you? I will try to answer every single question you ask here and help you understand everything!

What am I looking at?

A complete skill spreadsheet with all relevant abilities the Engineer has to offer. There's currently "only" one for the Power Holosmith (Rifle variant!), but I hope that I can add one for the Condi Engineer once again. :) All cast times have been elaborated by recording each skill and counting it's frames. The damage numbers are also very detailed, they include procs from Shrapnel and Sharpshooter aswell.

As for the full and/or part time Scrappers among us, I've added the hammer skills (and Gyros) aswell. Their damage include the modifier traits Perfectly Weighted and Laser's Edge. Laser's Edge will not be aviable if you play Scrapper, but it's required in the list to compare the skills to other ones.

Top left:

The unbuffed and realistic buffed stats (including Infusions) you will have. The term "Modifier" adds the value of all %-damage increasing traits, sigils and runes and Spirit of Frost. There is also information about the damage and duration of Conditions aswell as the healing output of Regeneration plus the healing modifiers. Below that, you can see all the realistic modifiers you'll have in Raids, for example 80% Scholar uptime, 100% Empower Allies uptime, etc.

Bottom left:

All the skills of the Engineer sorted by:

You can also see less important base values, such as what stands in the tooltip, Power, Condition and total damage, in- and outgoing healing, hard CC, cast time and cooldown.

Top right:

Lots of side info such as the Estimated Meta DpS (atm around 34k, which shows how precise this spreadsheet is), the duration of a full rotation, the number of procs of the trait Shrapnel while performing either the optimized rifle or sword rotation, weapon strengths of all the weapons, Kits, Utilities, Traits, Toolbelts, Sigils and Runes and a key to the color scheme of the actual spreadsheet.

Below all those side infos there's an important wide mini spreadsheet. These are all weapon, utility and elite skills with their total contribution to your DpS for a realistic rotation! So for example if you happen to replace the Laser Disk (2142 DpS) with the Elixir Gun (1631 DpS) to cleanse Sloth's fear of all your allies, you'd only lose 2142-1631=511 DpS. These numbers are based on the rifle variant and thus on the bomb auto attack. Therefore I could not include exact values for the sword in this table without immense calculations.

Bottom right:

All skills organized by DpiSCT (Damage per invested Second Cast Time / burst priority) in descending order. This is the actual Skill Spreadsheet!

All skills the meta rifle build uses, are marked with colors in the list:

  • Blue: 30'000+ DpiSCT

  • Green: 25'000-29'999 DpiSCT

  • Yellow: 20'000-24'999 DpiSCT

  • Orange: 10'000-19'999 DpiSCT

  • Red: 1-9'999 DpiSCT

  • Grey: 0 DpiSCT / Utility

  • Purple: Sigil / Rune / Trait / Other

Recommended / Meta Builds and Rotation Videos:

The Rifle Holosmith is currently the best build/rotation for Holosmith in Raids. Rifle and sword/pistol are now on the same level DpS wise, yet due to more cleave, CC and utility, rifle is still a tiny bit ahead of the sword variant.

The Sword Explosives Holosmith is currently second best build/rotation for Holosmith in Raids. You can swap to sword/shield for 350 additional CC damage, at the cost of approximately 500 DpS.

Sword Tools Holosmith is an alternate build/rotation for Holosmith in Raids. The no-kits, Tools variant is around 6% (2'000) DpS lower than the optimal rifle or sword/pistol builds with Explosives and kits. However this variant is a lot easier to play and is especially good for parties with insufficient Quickness, as it partially sustains Quickness itself. The Druid should be running a traited Sun Spirit for the Vigor uptime tho (which normally is the case)!

Key

Name of the Skill (Whole Chain)

The name of a skill. If there is a chain, like sword auto attack, the whole chain is used for further calculations.

Tooltip Value

The tooltip power damage. Nothing you should worry about.

Power Damage

The average power damage of a skill with realistic buffs.

Condition Damage

The average condition damage of a skill with realistic buffs.

Total Damage

The average total damage of a skill with realistic buffs.

Incoming Healing

The amount of healing you recieve from a skill with realistic buffs.

Outgoing Healing

The amount of healing others recieve from a skill with realistic buffs.

Hard CC Damage

The amount of hard CC damage of a skill.

Cast Time

The time it takes when you start casting a skill, until you can continue with casting other skills. Includes aftercast.

<- incl. Quickness

The Cast Time while under the effect of Quickness.

(Note: some skills are not (entierly) affected by Quickness. The cast time is marked red for those skills in the spreadsheet.)

Cooldown

The time it takes when you start casting, until the skill is ready again. The Cooldown is the sum of the Cast Time and the Base Cooldown you can see on the left. Cooldowns start after a skill has been cast.

<- incl. Quickness

The Cooldown while under the effect of Quickness.

<- incl. Alacrity

The Cooldown while under the effect of Alacrity and Quickness.

DpS over AA

The true "Damage per Second" you gain if you use the skill instead of your auto attack (AA), every time it's off cooldown.

<- incl. Quickness

The DpS over AA while under the effect of Quickness.

<- incl. Alacrity

The DpS over AA while under the effect of Alacrity and Quickness. This is one of the most important values of them all and shows how important a skill is in order to achieve high sustained damage.

<- DpS loss per s delay

The DpS you lose per s by not using a skill you have access to while it's off cooldown while under the effect of Alacrity and Quickness.

Inc. Heal. incl. Q&A

The amount of healing you recieve from a skill divided by it's cooldown while under the effect of Alacrity and Quickness.

Out. Heal. incl. Q&A

The amount of healing others recieve from a skill divided by it's cooldown while under the effect of Alacrity and Quickness.

Chrono Boost

The % damage boost a skill gains, if your Chronomancer grants you perma Quickness and Alacrity.

DpiSCT

It stands for Damage per invested Second Cast Time and determines the priority of a skill in a burst scenario. This value shows how much damage you'd be dealing if the skill would have no cooldown. It is often mixed up with "Damage per Second" which is a completly different value.

For example, a skill which deals 5'000 damage and has 0.5s cast time has a DpiSCT of 10'000. If you have another skill with 20'000 damage output, but a cast time of 4s, it'd have a DpiSCT of 5'000 and makes it a worse skill to use. You'd be dealing more DpS with the first one (as long as we ignore the Cooldown / as long as you use other skills too, at least auto attacks, ofc).

<- incl. Quickness

This is one of the most important values of them all and shows how important a skill is in order to achieve high burst damage.

Realistic buffs used are: 25 stacks Might, Fury, Quickness, Alacrity, 80% Scholar uptime, Spirit of Frost and Sun Spirit, Empower Allies, Banner of Strength and Discipline, Thermal Vision and 9 unique conditions on the target (including 25 stacks of Vulnerablity) for Modified Ammunition.

Well, that should be all! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you have any concerns or think something is off or wrong, please tell me right away, so I can correct it. It has been a lot of work and we all do mistakes! :3

I hope you like it! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Greez!

So how does one represent earth element in fashion wars?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 08:42 AM PST

Here's my charr named Chocolate Toast. He's an old character, made at the year of the vanilla game's release. He's been an elementalist, a tempest, and now a weaver. He changed his outfits a lot though he never loses the hat, from wearing what seems to be a Mazinger Z cosplay back in his youth to leystone armor as a tempest. So now he is a weaver and I figured the best way to do it is to show off the elements from your garment.

Fire and lightning are the most common stuff out there as far as effects go. I actually had trouble with water/ice until I realized the arms for the weaver armor had water effect (I was gonna use the arctic dagger instead if it didn't work out). But now I'm stumped. I need a skin that shows off earth elements. Any ideas?

EDIT: Thanks, I think the shoulders of leyline armor is perfect!

Looking to improve graphics

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 07:15 PM PST

Just bought my wife a new computer -

*i7-8700

*8GB 2666Mhz DDR4

*GeForce GT 1030 (2GB GDDR5)

Don't get me wrong, it runs really nice, especially compared to her last computer. Question is, if I wanted to improve the graphics/frame rate, what would be the best bang-for-my-buck? More memory? Better graphics card?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Game progression

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 02:41 PM PST

Hi all! I'm a newb to this game, but not to mmos.

I've started a few different characters just to have some options in terms of race/profession.

After reading around here and watching YouTube and twitch, I'm a little confused as to how to go about progressing characters. I know you can level through the story, but from what people say I don't think you have to do the story at all if you don't want to? Is map completion necessary on every toon? What does map completion actually get you? I have two 80 boosts, but don't want to spend them til I know what I'm doing.

I'm certainly going to play through the story with at least one character. Is that separate from map completion? Can you still access raids, fractals and all forms of pvp even if you skip map completion and or the story? And you can play the expansions and living story in any order from what I've gathered?

Sorry if these are silly questions...I'm coming from FFXIV, where you HAVE to the do the story to progress anything and it's always in the same order.

Thanks :)
