Remember you can play your own music WITHIN GW2 should you desire to. [Repost/Tutorial]

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:27 AM PST

Disclaimer: I posted this 5 years ago, 4 years ago, and 11 months ago as well. But since a lot of new players have joined both the game and this community around the PoF Launch, I decided to repost this for the players who might not be familiar with this neat little feature.

Hey guys,

Let me open up with a quote from Jim Boer (former Arenanet employee) about this.

No matter how fantastic a game's music is, when you hear the same music for the thousandth time, you start wanting to change things up a bit. Many players will simply turn the game music off and play their own collections. The problem is that an external music player has no context as to what's going on in-game. Guild Wars 2 will offer a solution for this as well. We're giving players the option of choosing external music playlists that the game's audio engine will use as a replacement for the default in-game music. Players can choose different playlists for background ambience and battle music, for instance. Additionally, when appropriate, such as during cinematics, the game can revert back to in-game music temporarily to give the best possible cinematic experience, then resume the custom playlist when it's done. Did you know you can replace the (awesome) music in the game and substitute it with your own? -Jim Boer

This a feature in the game that in my opinion does not recieve enough recognition.

Here's how you do it:

Go to you documents folder -> Guild Wars 2 -> Music.

On Windows 7 this is under Users[Your Name]\Documents\Guild Wars 2. For Mac OSX it's under /Application Support/Guild Wars 2/p_drive/User/Application Data/Guild Wars 2. Note: you may need to create the (music) folder if it doesn't exist yet.

Create a playlist using your favorite media player.

The music files have to be in a format that FMOD supports by default: .mp3, .ogg, .flac, .wav, .aiff, .mid, .it etc.

The playlist formats that are supported are: .wpl, .m3u, .pls, .asx, and .wax

To play your playlists you have to give it a specific name. The playlist names that are currently recognized by the game are:

  • Ambient
  • Battle
  • Underwater
  • City
  • MainMenu
  • NightTime
  • Defeated
  • BossBattle
  • Victory

So if you have a playlist in the Guild Wars 2 Music folder called 'City', this playlist will start to play when you are in Hoelsbrak! Awesome!

Hope this little guide helps you!

Please enjoy!

3-4+ mesmer teams are now consistently winning automated tournaments

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 02:59 PM PST

It's kind of absurd. You go mid and you see 15 bodies on point, and you have to identify which 3 are the real mesmers, and then you have to figure out which one is which build. And by then you're just bursted down. Then you try to play sides, and you're instantly portal-entred.

I got to the finals of an AT, and the enemy team had 4 mesmers. One was even playing chronomancer. We were an entire team of plat 2+ players with a solid, balanced comp. Basically, every-time we'd get one close to down, they'd just drop their hard-immunes and let the other mesmers burst you.

It's getting absolutely absurd. You can't give a class hard-immunes, instant-bursts, mobility, and hard-cc. These are the definition of things that should be in the game sparingly.

You have entire builds on different classes that are dedicated to one or two of these things, and they have to sacrifice stuff to get that. But with mesmer, it's just like, everything, but with few disadvantages.

Dear Anet, please give our home instances a library /memorabilia and Tonic cabinet

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:23 AM PST

I'd even pay gems for this. To get a home instance library for putting all the clutter books. And a tonic cabinet for all those nice (and free) tonics we get. And not to forget a place were we can store Marjories memories etc. The cats can go and sit on them. They also need a different view sometimes.

Will give us another reason to go to our home instances as well.

DPS Spellbreaker (34.3 and 36.5k w/ FC)

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 04:41 PM PST

Hey all,

Apologies for a semi-repeat post here, but I figured the change that I made was big enough to merit posting again. We've see a lot of coverage about the GS related spellbreaker build, but not a ton about an axe and dagger related setup.

The big change in the build is the switch to main hand Mace instead of main hand Dagger (for fights where you can't rip boons)

The reason for this change is in fights with no boon rip, you get an extra stack of Attacker's Insight with mace (F1 and 3). This is very important because you execute these skills before your 4 highest damaging abilities.

While neither mace MH nor dagger MH is very strong, you definitely want to avoid auto-attacking with mace. If this is a fight where you can proc full counter, that is very easy as FC takes up the extra bit of time between your CC skills and the time that Axe 4 and 5 are off cooldown.

If you aren't getting full counter, stay in Axe/D for 1 or 2 auto attacks of axe MH before swapping to M/A. This should allow you to use Axe 4 and 5 off cooldown, but also avoid the bad mace auto attack.

Due to the higher uptime of Attacker's Insight, I always saw worse results with Bull's Charge instead of Throw Bolas. If others can prove otherwise, I'll give BC another shot...but for now I'm sticking with bolas.

Let me know if you guys have any questions. This build still suffers from dagger #4 issues, but it benchmarks equal/higher than the GS build and I think is more fun. You also aren't rooted like you are with GS so both have their own sets of pros/cons. Play which ever one you like!

Hello Reddit! We're O the Huge Manatee [OHM], proficiently prolific purveyors of pitiful puns and the NA servers' resident experts on Smashing the Dragon for fun, profit, and those sweet, sweet achievement points. We've been running attempts to get the Smash the Dragon Shatterer achievement since Fall of 2016, and during that time, we've been gathering data and developing strategies to stack the odds ever in our favor.

Unfortunately, many of our commanders have been sucked into playing one of the worst games of all time, Real Life, leaving us with less and less time to devote towards helping the people of Guild Wars 2 bag a badass Branded Backpiece.

That's where you come in.

Within these hallowed confines...er, this Reddit post is our collected knowledge base for Smash the Dragon Shatterer runs. All the information, strategies, references, and resources that we've put together and made use of over the past year and change is here, and now...it's in your hands. Our hope is to empower the community of Guild Wars 2 to Smash the Dragon the OHM way, so that even when we aren't around, the good commanders of the community can draw from our experience to help people in our place.

If you still want to be part of a genuine OHM Shatterer fight, don't worry! We'll still be around on Monday and/or Friday nights at the [Reset +1] timeslot.

If you have any questions about the information here, feel free to ask, and good luck Smashing the Dragon!

Would you like a blank canvas for your home instance like Guild Halls so you can craft stuff to place.

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 11:37 AM PST

So like Guild Halls it gave us a pretty empty space but you could build JP's, bars, put NPC's anywhere.

Would you like this approach for the home instance? You can place your nodes where you want, where certain NPC's spawn, manquin's for any armour/weapons you have but in order to get all of that stuff you need to craft it all like you do with a scribe.

Maybe use the hologram tech Tammi used as a flat canvas and work from there?

Can we please have an option to consume all/salvage all for the excluded LS3 mats?

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:05 PM PST

Converting extra Winterberries, Fire Orchid Blossoms, and Orrian Pearls into Unbound Magic takes 10 seconds, but doing the same for Petrified Wood, Blood Rubies, and Jade Shards takes 10 minutes. It would be greatly appreciated if the latter 3 were given the consume all or salvage all option. The devs have been doing a great job at putting an end to Click Wars 2, but these remain as one of the biggest outliers left. Thanks!

[PvP] Guide to draining and finishing

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:49 AM PST

Aka when to drain and not be a noob about it. A guide.

Hello everyone. I welcome all our new PvPers to the scene, it's always great to have new people around. I personally noticed an increase of new players in the last couple of seasons and that's awesome!

There's one thing I noticed that new players are trying to copy from more experienced players and that's draining.

What's draining?

  • Draining is the action performed by attacking a downed player with the intention of keeping him downed for a longer period in order to gain a certain advantage.

What are the advantages of draining?

  • The main advantage is creating a power-play setup when you have at least one enemy incapacitated and the match plays 5v4.
  • You can delay capping or otherwise putting pressure on a point.

For how long should you drain?

  • Draining should take a very long time. That's what makes it so effective as a tactic.
  • Let the enemy attempt to heal itself, don't interrupt his heal. Before he's up, hit him to interrupt the heal but be aware that healing % increases the longer he's healing. If you know the internal cooldown for healing skills and how much HP the downed player has, you can actually let him heal multiple times.
  • Allowing another enemy to heal / rez the downed player and combining that with interrupts on the enemy resurrecting prolongs the drain but is a risky tactic if he/she has more stability than you have interrupts. Coordinating with the team or with your team mate when duo improves your chances and sets a situation that allows other team members to benefit form it, such as baiting, a tactic used to bait others to rez a team mate.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART AND PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE YOU SHOULD REMEMBER FROM THIS POST

When should you drain?

  • Draining should occur if you as a drainer are in an advantageous position compared to your drainee. For example:
  • You are capping a point and the drainee is outside of it.
  • There are no enemies that can rez the drainee.
  • There is one enemy that can rez the drainee but you certainly have more interrupts than he has stability.

When you shouldn't drain?

  • When a team mate is down and about to be finished. I cannot stress how important it is to be aware of your surroundings and your team mates.
  • When you're not watching the HP of your team. If a team member around you is getting pounded, he will get hit by 1 standing enemy and two downed.
  • When you need to control the amount of match points you're getting, especially when you are catching up and need several more points. In that case, finish as fast as possible and try to get kills as fast as possible. Bear in mind that this might put a lot of pressure on your team if multiple enemies spawn at the same time so try to time so that in 10-15 seconds you can support Far if needed.

Things to take into consideration:

  • Enemies have different downed skills based on their profession. Experiment a bit with the classes to get to know the skills because, for example, a thief that you drain outside Clocktower on Khylo could teleport on a ledge above you which you may not reach in time to land the kill.
  • Are you currently dominating the match and but you need to catch up more points? Don't drain, you need to keep the points and farm the enemies for 5p each.
  • Do not play the hero. When you downed an enemy, do not get cocky. Check your HP, check the map, check the point, check the team and then decide if you can drain or not. I died many times because someone failed at one of these and decided to drain right from the start and probably so have you.
  • Change your finisher. Changing your finisher will get you a bit more focused on finishing because you want to see the finisher or show off. Pick the best one you have and show off as much as you can.
  • Channel your energy, rage and salt into winning the match not the fights.

Did I miss anything?

  • Be sure to let me know in the comments and I will update the post with your findings.
  • I will try to update this with more info as time goes by.

Burnt out from WoW, tried ESO and hated it. Hoping for this.

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 08:49 PM PST

  • Hello guys! I am a 12 years veteran WoW player (played since BC) and I am really sick of coming back and quitting because it feels like a job and more of the same (power creep). I love to PvP (BG's casual) and to explore, to admire the art and the world, to chill alone into zones and with friends. I just bought, ESO + Morrowind Collectors Edition, to play with old friends I like, and I ended up not liking the game for some reasons:
  • Game feels unpolished overall.
  • Crowded locations are extremely laggy.
  • There are A BUNCH of important queslines, guilds and content locket behind a paywall even after you purchased latest expansion on collector's edition like me.
  • Combat is weird and aiming thing in pvp is really cluncky.
  • the animations are so bad.
  • the art of the world is nice but the character feels weird.
  • I did not play more than 13 levels or 20 hours on ESO but It feels really weird there, I see no love into the art or engaged to explore.

I am pretty sure you guys see many topics like this here but I just joined, so I want to know ur experience with GW2, mainly comparing its mechanics to WoW ones so I can easly understand. I am looking for an engaging world, beautiful, casual friendly (that does not force you to race against other players), with playable pvp and variation on activities you can do in game. Tell me whatever you can?

Please can we streamline level up rewards?

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:27 AM PST

I ask for this in the knowledge that many veterans of the community have a large collection of Tomes of Knowledge and Experience Scrolls. Is there any way we could just accumulate all the level up rewards in one final reward at level 80? Because clicking at a maximum of 3 and a minimum of 2 times per level is really just a huge ballache. Much appreciated, your average lazy gw2 vet
