I wish I could go back and experience Fallout 4s E3 reveal again. Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:13 AM PST I remember it so clearly, I was sitting in art class... had my crappy little laptop the school gave me sitting in front of me, leaning back on my plastic chair (which gave me back issues) watching Todd reveal Fallout 4 to the world. Gave me chills, I waited so long for that, I had physical tears in my eyes. Shame the game didn't live up to everything else but I'll never, ever, forget that moment. [link] [comments] |
Random Idea: New Vegas Crippling Alcoholic Run Posted: 19 Feb 2018 05:06 AM PST I had this random idea for a run. Get addicted to every kind of booze in the game and try to beat the game while maintaining your habits. Any of kind build but set your Perception as low as possible because you're always too drunk to aim straight. For added measure get the Four Eyes trait but never wear glasses. [link] [comments] |
Where exactly *IS* the Sierra Madre Resort? Posted: 18 Feb 2018 09:08 PM PST One of the strengths of New Vegas was how rooted the experience was in extrapolating real-world locations and elements into the science-fantasyscape of the Mojave Wasteland for players to enjoy. They did a decent job with rescaling the environment to suit their needs and took advantage of nearby landmarks very effectively. The DLC, like Honest Hearts, is the best example of them using real-world geography and iconography to build up the game's lore and player immersion. However, there's a sticking point. After picking the game back up and completing the DLCs, I realized something: I had no idea where I had actually been during the events of Dead Money. This confused me further when I attempted to research it, as I was familiar with the book it was partially based on. To frame: Honest Hearts takes place in Zion National Park, which is in reality only a few hours from Vegas and well entrenched in southern Utah. Lonesome Road, while not particularly descriptive in providing its real-world location, offers some hints: a major thoroughfare for easterly-bound trade marks it as a former interstate or highway going by typical NCR routes (Long 15, etc) and its "northwestern" label places it as being close to or corresponding to Death Valley National Park up through Route 190 if we place it between the Mojave and theoretical NCR territory. This tells us that at least 2/3 of the major DLCs take place within walking distance (well, give or take) of Vegas. So that begs the question: where is the Sierra Madre Resort? The obvious answer is: The Sierra Nevada. Taking advantage of the name similarities to a mountain range in Mexico, the Sierra Madre, they planted it somewhere in the region of the mountains which cut through Yosemite and and Sequoia National Parks. The alternative to this general location guideline is the actual Sierra Madre, which again is in Mexico. Which would imply the player is transported all the way through Arizona untouched, which is a dubious proposition and doesn't fit with the profile Obsidian established for their other DLCs. But figuring out the general location; that's not the hard part. The hard part is figuring out whereabouts the bugger actually sits. It's unlikely that the Sierra Madre Resort is parked directly on the Sierra Nevada range for a few reasons. Namely, most of it is covered toe-to-tip in giant sequoia trees, none of which appear at any time in cinematic or are mentioned despite what would probably be a major landmark. Recall that the Sierra Madre is referenced as being "lost" in a "wasteland" and is referenced as being in the middle of the desert by multiple in-game log entries, which implies a location away from landmarks like National Parks. Also, the Sierra Madre is all the way across Death Valley, so it doesn't really fit there either. There's no mention of the Courier moving through the Lonesome Road DLC to reach the Sierra Madre, and one has to keep in mind that contextual clues are essential in forming an idea of where it might be considering how the game handles geolocation. Another option is adjacent to the actual Sierra Madre mountain range which actually is partially in California. Fun fact: The Sierra Madre actually consists of four distinct mountain ranges forming the edges of Mexico's dry landmass. The one mentioned in Dead Money's inspiration, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, is the Sierra Madre Occidental. The Sierra Madre mountains in California, however, are smack dab in the middle of NCR territory. Again, I find it unlikely that it would be located in such a literal location because of its supposedly mysterious nature and wasteland location which doesn't jive with what we know of the "New" California. I think someone from the Boneyard would've spotted it by now. Which leads to probably the most likely and boring explanation that really isn't much of an explanation: Somewhere in Northern Arizona. Often, major constructions like cities or resorts are named after distant landmarks or famous persons which inspired it. This naming convention is pretty much a hallmark of American history; we have an entire state named after a British King. In the same way, the Sierra Madre Resort draws its name and architecture in spirit from Mexico, formerly Spanish territory, and from the book bearing its namesake. While it's likely that the location to initiate the DLC was just placed to balance it off the other two (West, North, and East) the directions have stayed mostly loyal to their DLC's relative location, and Dead Money could potentially follow that trend. Finally, Northern Arizona was historically considered to be a lot of badlands and very little comes out of that region in-game, lending its location to being somewhat mysterious. This is just the conclusion I've drawing apprehensively after finding nothing that matched up very well from a few hours of going over maps and in-game text. So, thoughts? Anything I missed? Where do you think it's located, and why? I hope you've got a better handle on this than I do. [link] [comments] |
I think I built my character a bit ... strong Posted: 19 Feb 2018 10:08 AM PST So my most recent character in New Vegas has reached level 42 while doing the Lonesome Road DLC, and as I was adding skill points I noticed something. Almost every skill was maxed. The character was originally meant to be a intelligent, energy weapons character with light armor. Yet on top of that I have a explosive skill of 100, guns 80, unarmed 100... and I have the Gannon Family power armor and the Elite Riot Gear... I was beforehand under the assumption you couldn't make a "overpowered god" character in New Vegas, unlike its counterparts 3 and 4. I have been proven otherwise [link] [comments] |
What's the most intense situation you've had in Fallout? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 01:36 AM PST Tell me your story. Mine was yesterday playing Fallout 4. Two Alpha Deathclaws were fighting near a bridge I wanted to cross into Boston with my companion Birdie (from the Tales of the Commonwealth mod). We're overly confident so decide to try sneaking past. Part way across the bridge the Deathclaws stop fighting and run after us. We sprint past two cars on the bridge. I look back and see one Deathclaw approaching fast. Instinctively I put a couple bullets in one car and it explodes in a massive fireball almost instantly (I've got a bigger explosions mod running). The blast causes the other car to explodes a second later. This happens as the Deathclaw is running between the two cars and it splatters into meat across the bridge. I'm just far enough away from the blasts to survive, but it still wipes off most of my health and cripples my legs. Birdie's closer to the blasts and goes flying forward past my face. Next I see the remaining Deathclaw running past the wreckage towards us. He's got the hunger of revenge in his eyes. Birdie recovers and opens fire with his trusty sniper rifle. I open fire with my favourite .45 combat rifle. We're both aiming for the head. The Deathclaw races forward, it's about to strike me. Then BAM, its head explodes and the body crashes to the ground. We heal up, collect the meat from those noble creatures, and say WTF did that just happen. Thanks for reading and sharing your stories. [link] [comments] |
Based on your current profession and talents, what job would you have in the Wasteland? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 11:44 AM PST Let's say the world is engulfed in nuclear fire at some point, and you're lucky enough to have been turned into a ghoul or something. You begin your new life in the Wasteland, with all of your skills from your previous life still intact. What would you do? My only talent is uhhh... drawing cartoons. So yeah. I'd be pretty boned. But I'm sure the rest of you would find some use for your talents in a post-apocalyptic wasteland! [link] [comments] |
Give me fun companion ideas, best one becomes a new standalone mod. Posted: 19 Feb 2018 11:51 AM PST I'll come back tomorrow and sort by date, not by score so the best idea will win. Name, species, brief backstory, weapon of choice, go nuts. Hard mode: Include a brief backstory that doesn't contain the words Vault, robot, cyborg, bounty hunter, rape, shotgun, launcher, or Jet. What areas of New Vegas felt too empty to you? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 01:22 PM PST I have commonly heard a complaint that overworld of New Vegas felt too empty or too constrained compared to Fallout 3 or such. I played New Vegas first and I loved the map, never really feeling like the Mojave Wasteland's environment was lacking. I always play NV on hardcore mode, which /u/manyatruenerd said made a lot of the minor locations feel more important as they provided food or water. Strip and Freeside didn't have enough NPCs, but it is known Obsidian couldn't implement that due to console hardware restrictions. To be fair, I played NV on the 360, and mods like Freeside Open help to fix the issue for PC players. But, that's just my opinion, and I'd like to you're thoughts on this. [link] [comments] |
I’ve found an interesting way to gain affinity with companions who like theft. Posted: 19 Feb 2018 01:56 PM PST So when you visit and clear the Quincy Ruins, make your way to the skybridge and on the upper level Clint's owned power armor, complete with fusion core are standing there for the taking. I had MacCready with me and had done his two personal quests and nearly had him at full affinity and figured taking the armor would help, it got me idolized status with him. You could most likely use this as an exploit [link] [comments] |
Any ideas for naming a plasma infused radium rifle? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 01:54 PM PST While I was farming for a legendary radium rifle, I came up with a name for Freezing radium rifle: Nuclear Winter. But I got a plasma infused one instead. Can't complain, but I don't have any good name for it. Other legendary weapon names I'd like to share: Relentless Chinese Officer Sword: Swallow. Named after sword of Ciri, who basically Blitzs around like my character does. Mighty Super Sledge: Volendrung. Lucky Baseball Bat: Four Leaf Swatter. [link] [comments] |
I need some Fallout4 settlement advice and suggestions. Posted: 19 Feb 2018 10:05 AM PST I have Sim Settlements: Rise Of The Commonwealth installed and have recently taken over the castle. I'm about 2/3rd (or 3 /4th) done with FO4. I just got into the institute not too long ago. Anyway I need some advice/ suggestions and the answer to some questions. Since I have rise of the Commonwealth installed, can I build The Castle as a completely separate settlement with completly separate configurations? In Sanctuary I let the settlers build it to their liking. I'm thinking about turning the castle into a kind of military Fortress a place to do a little R&R. So what kind of things should I do to it to make it a little more of a military Fortress? I have a mod installed that allow me to get random settlers and I've been thinking about making a militarized town. I also have the Militarized Minutemen mod, it's pretty cool mod actually. So I was just wondering what kind of things do you think I should do? I'm toying with setting up some shops and turn into an actual kind of town with weapons and trading and things like that any suggestions? What have you guys done with The Castle? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Feb 2018 01:05 PM PST Apologies if this question has been asked alot around this sub. I only discovered this sub quite recently (weird since I've been playing fallout since FO3). But I wonder what is the general consensus on which is the best fallout game? Personally I would go with NV because I really like the area around vegas. Gives you a western kind of vibe. And also other reasons as well, such as the story. [link] [comments] |
So the chaos ensues (Old World Blues - A Hearts of Iron 4 mod) Posted: 18 Feb 2018 07:29 PM PST https://gyazo.com/fd13fb6160e602add2c7c74dd86a50a6 I'm playing as the Desert Rangers but I sided with the Western BOS and the NCR went into Civil War, The King took over Vegas, the NCR never pushed into the Mojave so they never pushed off the Mojave Chapter so the Mojave Chapter is hitting them where it hurts, The Long 15, The dam Busters (raiderish faction that controls Hoover Dam) is hitting the legion since they tried to grab the damn and the Dam Busters are slowly pushing into Legion territory Edit- New Vegas region was a glob so i zoomed in https://gyazo.com/b7ca34fb3376382943438aaffd134fd5 [link] [comments] |
Ramifications of a BoS loss in the Commonwealth? Posted: 18 Feb 2018 08:12 PM PST How would the DC Brotherhood react? How much would it affect them? Considering that the groups responsible (Minutemen and/or Railroad) are relatively peaceful and that the Institute was destroyed anyway, would they move on and maybe form a truce? Or would the desire for revenge lead to war? [link] [comments] |
Honestly, What is even the point of the fallout myths wiki? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:48 PM PST I mean, if you think that feral ghouls are a myth that is a myth then ok, it even has a page for Stripe is a myth then. okay, note that nearly every actual thing you can find in game has a page. Even Andale for some reason? It litteraly makes my head hurt. [link] [comments] |
I did a Speedrun of New Vegas on my Xbox 360 Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:24 PM PST I used my new recording device for the first time and used it to record my Speedrun of New Vegas [link] [comments] |
Semi-pro tip: The first time you play Fallout 3, play it "by the book".(Minor spoilers) Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:20 PM PST By this I mean, go to locations and meet characters as the game sends you there. Go to Megaton, and start exploring as NPCs give you quests. I did my first playthrough by simply wandering around the wasteland, and I ended up missing a lot of the story. I never met Three Dog or did his quests, never fought the behemoth with the BOS, things like that. The locations and characters also seem more meaningful when you encounter them as part of the story. Otherwise, you're just going around blasting hostiles and finding loot somewhat randomly. The game is designed so you can play it the way you want, which is awesome, but I found it was much deeper when I played it the way the story intends you play it. [link] [comments] |
Why are the brotherhood able to beat the enclave when liberty prime is destroyed? Posted: 18 Feb 2018 03:55 PM PST The enclave are supposed to be the most technological advanced faction in the wasteland yet the brotherhood seems to win with not much problems [link] [comments] |
Hey Fallout community, mind lending me your opinions for a second? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:21 AM PST Basically, I'm writing a paper on the general effectiveness of the missing/endangered child plotline, using Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 as examples. It's mostly just for fun but if it ends up being something decent I might try and submit it somewhere. I was hoping I could get some players' opinions to see how the general community stands in relation to how I feel about the game. I've made a google survey for Fallout 4 and if you've played The Witcher 3 as well there's a link for that survey at the end, but you don't need to have played both games to take the survey. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Cheating addict who needs help. Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:08 AM PST I play Fallout New Vegas constantly, but I just can't help myself when it comes to the console commands. I tried editing the Fallout_default file but it wont work. I am using a modded game, if that affects anything. [link] [comments] |
[F:NV] Are the DLC expansions better for a new character or a pre-existing one? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 08:27 AM PST I currently have three characters going in New Vegas, two of which have hit level 30. Faction-wise I've done Independent, Peaceful NCR, and Mr. House (I'll get to the Legion stuff eventually, I just never play as a bad guy) I still have the standard edition of F:NV with none of the DLC. Playing through the expansions with a buffed up character would definitely make it easier, but from what I hear, the DLC is integrated into the main story quite well. Also, if I do start a new character, which would be the best faction choice? And in which order should the DLC be completed to make the most sense story-wise? [link] [comments] |
Adding NPCs to player faction in FO3 Posted: 19 Feb 2018 12:20 AM PST Is there a console command for adding an NPC to player faction in FO3? There are some characters who follow me around but the set off my mines right after "watching me" set them. I'm hoping to resolve that with console commands if possible. Is there a way to set them to my faction to have them not set off my mines anymore? EDIT: nevermind, I was able to figure out that in console clicking on them and using: adddact 0001b2a4 1 adds them to your faction and they no longer set off your mines [link] [comments] |
