Error 206 PatchManifestError_UnzipFailed, today when trying to launch game; no hardware or software changes/updates, across two computers.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:35 PM PST

Like the title said, this error is appearing both on mine and my wife's ESO launchers on our seperate computers when we try to boot up the game after work today. I have searched for Error 206 and found this that describes what to do, but none of our subfolders in directories have any patchdata files or folders. Anybody know if something's up with Zenimax's servers right now? As of posting this, I haven't seen other threads discussing it...

UPDATE BELOW

This is a known issue from Zenimax and they are working to resolve it. Do NOT reinstall your client. Here is the current thread and dev response on the official forums:

https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/393059/error-206-patchmanifest-error-unzipfailed

Furthermore, a workaround if the game was NOT purchased through Steam is to open up eso64.exe located in C:\Program Files (X86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client to bypass the launcher

UPDATE 2

Everything seems to be working now! Happy playing, folks!

The REAL reason why this DLC is called "Dragon Bones"

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:56 PM PST

Because they are putting the final nail in the coffin for magicka Dragon Knight and putting them in the groundXD

It'd be cool if we can buy a bard for our homes.

Either luxury vendor being 200K or maybe 2000 crowns or something.

Is it illegal to do this?

Right now there is a Thing with the Warden where you can use the bear and still use other ultimates. Can I get in trouble if I do it?

Quick PvE list for all basic class builds (for anyone asking)

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:16 AM PST

If you think/know I messed up somewhere, please drop a comment about it.

Edit: Swapped sorcerers and nightblades, as u/tapedeckNinja made a convincing comment.

Edit 2: Player skill is a major factor in ESO and just because a build isn't meta doesn't mean you can't be effective on it by playing excellently. Don't let this list factor into your fun nor undermine your success with a build.

Edit 3: Yes, Nightblade tanks can be strong in dungeons, but they were nerfed heavily with morrowind and this list is more oriented towards trial scenarios. I'm considering making a "dungeon edition" to be more informative of their power in them (as well as changing the effectiveness of other class builds which perform better in dungeons).

Stamina DPS:

All can be played in all content, since stamina dps is very reliant on weapon abilities and the discrepancy isn't too big.

  1. Dragonknights - High damage and simple heavy attack rotation means that sustain is high without sacrificing dps. They make great use of sunderflame and morag tong on themselves or another Dragonknight.

  2. Sorcerers - High aoe dps, especially paired with a 2 hander. A bit weaker in ST but is loaded with damage and supports a heavy attacking build well. Doesn't offer the utility of a templar, however.

  3. Templars - Power of the light provides a small group dps increase, and crescent sweep is a low cost ultimate that works very well with war machine. Great group support for a dps class.

  4. Nightblades - Super high single target dps and can sustain a light attack rotation. Harder to play than the dragonknights (and most classes) but can deal more dps outside of ideal scenarios. Would be higher but Sorcerer's aoe and Templar's debuffs push it back.

  5. Wardens - Deals good dps and can provide the major resistance debuff to all enemies in a group. About as strong as a sorcerer and could easily be #4.

Magicka DPS:

Dps discrepancies are a lot bigger, and some classes got hit a bit too hard after the morrowind changes. Anything other than vet trials isn't a problem, however.

  1. Nightblades - Really high dps, a bit of group healing, and high ultimate regen. A hard class to play but when played well are very powerful. Can also run lighting staves for off balance uptime without sacrificing too much damage.

  2. Sorcerers - Super high aoe dps with an easy rotation and a ton of lightning damage for off balance uptime. Strong shields and pets for easy damage make it a safe and strong class.

  3. Templars - Good dps but has to be in melee range to deal it, and struggles on the execute phase with sustain. Has a ranged build too but deals a bit less damage.

  4. Dragonknights - Good dps but struggles with sustain period and is forced into melee range as a light armored class.

  5. Wardens - Poorest dps out all builds. Can reach good dps but loses out on the aoe damage that other classes have with magicka variants, and as such doesn't really deal more damage.

Healers:

With the energy orb changes of morrowind and the fact that non-class skills are the most important, most healers can do almost all content outside of vet trials without a problem (only 4 and below will be a big issue, 3 can be a minor one).

  1. Templars - Luminous shards is a better version of energy orb. They have a great "oh shit" heal for tight situations, insane magicka regen with channeled focus, and have a cheap cleanse ability that allies can use when they want. Also have access to minor mending.

  2. Wardens. The only class with consistent major mending uptime. They have a healing synergy, an "oh shit" heal that provides bonus regen, a strong and cheap healing ultimate, and good magicka regen with blue betty and nature's gift.

  3. Nightblades - They have a ton of healing over time abilities and access to minor mending for a lot of healing. Biggest boon is the fact that they deal dps while healing. They have decent magicka regen and super high ulti regen. Bit high skill cap since you want to maximize dps while healing.

  4. Sorcerers - Has an "oh shit" heal, but sustain isn't passive and can hurt the group if used at the wrong time. Provides a bit more off balance uptime but nothing else really.

  5. Dragonknights - Group shield doesn't scale with magicka, lacks any kind of sustain ability, and has 2 "oh shit" heals. Lack of sustain makes them slightly weaker than Sorcerers.

Tanks:

A bit of a weird one. While all tanks can pull of 4 man vet content, trials can make some tanks struggle and vet trials have a straight cut off point (with a weird exception).

  1. Dragonknights - Super tanky, aoe cc and debuffs, great sustain, HP scaling group shield, and a pull ability for ranged adds. Does everything a tank needs to do very well.

  2. Wardens - Same thing as Dragonknights but with better magicka sustain for support abilities and a heals instead of a group shield. No aoe debuffs (useful for pve) and their pull is hard to use, however.

  3. Sorcerers - Really tanky, great sustain, aoe CC, and a lot of ultimate cost reduction. Lacks any group utility.

  4. Templars - Strong hp scaling shield for themselves, high tankiness, but lacks in stamina regen. Healer components make them a good off tank in vet trials situationally.

  5. Nightblades - Lacks any passive tankiness and have much group healing without blowing resources. Bad regen for a tank and lack of aoe CC. Has highest ulti regen, however.

[Discussion] Can we have a music system like the one in LOTRO?

Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:17 AM PST

In LOTRO, you were able to use .abc files to play whatever song you like. (We had this group who made a full on band and played eye of the tiger!) I think this would make for a really awesome addition and would allow more RP opportunities and also just more options for players (which is always welcome!) I'd love to hear your ideas and opinions and wanted down below! :D

Thanks for the Shenanigans

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:48 PM PST

This is a simple thank you to a random fellow I came across in Abah's Landing last night.

I was off to dye some new threads I'd procured from my pointy-eared and spiny-headed friends in the Thieves' Guild. As I entered the crafters' square of Abah's Landing, I came across a curious sight at the nearby well. A barrel-chested orc, in shining plate, holding tight to a metal bear as it bucked wildly about the square.

After a few moments taking in this joyous romp, I felt an unyielding urge to join this man in his frolic. So I called my own dwemer wolf to me, and together the four of us bounded in triumphant circles around the well.

Then, he called out his black dwemer senche. I responded in kind with my dwemer spider. Much prancing followed. He followed up with a robo-nix-ox. I countered with its organic double.

A black camel, spitting wildy.

A white wolf of the Reach, howling at the sky.

A camel of twigs and leaves.

A horse of stones and lightning.

Two warhorses in golden armor, whinnying in unison.

And so it went, a back and forth of silly steeds, followed by handsome hats and crisp costumes. At the end, I was bested by the depths of his collection, but there we stood, strangers no more, muscles bristling, and dresses flowing gloriously in the breeze. We saluted each other, bent a knee in respect, and went our separate ways.

If you are reading this, JazzyJazzyJeb, know that you are indeed, the jazziest of them all.

Compliments to the community

Posted: 01 Feb 2018 04:17 AM PST

While I've seen an improvement in most online gaming communities in the past 6 or 7 years, I want to compliment the ESO community specifically.

I can't explain why, but the people in this game are generally very friendly towards each other. Even in PVP (Cyrodiil). Patient, helpful, witty, respectful.

Thanks for making this game great!
