[D2 CONCEPT] Louis the Falcon as a Vendor / Bounty Hunter Vendor & Items

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 06:54 AM PST

Hey Guardians! I've got another concept for you all to look at!

So this is the idea: Make Louis the Falcon the Bounties Vendor for the Tower and Farm. Pretty simple idea, but what would it look like?

It would look a little like this!

Let me explain how all of this would work.

Full Imgur Album To Follow Along!

Bounties

The main objective of Louis is to give you High-Value Targets to hunt with these Bounties.

In total there would be:

  • 25 Rotating Blue Bounties

  • 10 Rotating Legendary Bounties

  • 7 Rotating Exotic Bounties

These Bounties would rotate weekly and can be done on multiple characters.

Once a Bounty is complete, it will not give rewards for the rest of the week.

Think of these Bounties like Mini Strikes and Mini Raids, each having modifiers and a difficulty to them that increasingly gets higher.

Exotic Bounties are Prestige-Level Difficulty.

Some examples of the Bounties would be:

SCAVENGER HUNT, Rare Bounty

Follow the Trail

European Deadzone

A Fallen-Vandal is leaving a trail of destruction. Follow the bread crumbs right to him.

Recommended Power: 200

BLACK LAGOON, Rare Bounty

Monster Below The Waves

Titan

A Hive-Wizard is trying to use a ritual to summon a monster we've never seen before. Stop them.

Recommended Power: 200

THE ONE, Rare Bounty

A Glitch In The Matrix

Nessus

A group of Harpies escaped from the Infinite Forest and is trying to build on Nessus. End it.

Recommended Power: 200

PERFECT BEING, Rare Bounty

Cell By Cell

Io

A Taken Knight has shown up that is consuming enemies and allies for power. Destroy it quickly!

Recommended Power: 200

DARKEST DARK, Legendary Bounty

Legion of the Darkblade

Titan

The portal to the Ascendant Realm has released those who followed the Darkblade. Crush them!

Recommended Power: 300

COPY CATS, Legendary Bounty

Return Of The Brothers?

European Deadzone

A new pair of Shield Brothers has risen from the ranks of the Red Legion. Strike them down.

Recommended Power: 300

DEVIL'S GRASP, Exotic Bounty

Kell of Kells Reborn!

European Deadzone

A new Devil rises to become the next Kell of Kells. Silence him and his followers.

Recommended Power: 335

Something that you'll notice is that some of these bounty targets sound like Strike Bosses and Raid Bosses. That's the idea!

This would be a way to bring back old-style content without having to repeat in the other parts of the endgame.

But what do you get from defeating Targets?

Bird Seed

And what do you do with Bird Seed?

Well...

Items & Rewards

Bird Seeds are basically the Tokens you would use on other Vendors, but specific to Louis.

Bird Seed can be obtained from doing Weekly Bounties and Patrol Missions.

It would be used in a tiered system for Armor, a Ghost, and a Weapon.

An example of some of the gear you could get is:

Bindcaster I Helmet for Warlocks

Bindcaster I Gauntlets for Warlocks

Bindcaster I Chest Armor for Warlocks

Bindcaster I Leg Armor for Warlocks

Bond of the Tilt for Warlocks

Brave Shell for All Classes

And for those who wanted back a classic:

The Khvostov 7G-02

Khvostov 7G-02 in-menu

Khvostov 7G-02 Perks Overlay

Khvostov 7G-02 Lore Tab

To obtain these items, you will first have to complete the corresponding bounties to unlock them first.

Then once unlocked, you would need the materials to purchase them.

So as an example, to unlock the legendary gear you must complete the Legendary Bounties of that week.

But I bet you're wondering about what the Exotic Bounty does?

Well...

Consumables

At the bottom of the page you will notice a row of Consumables.

These Consumables are bought with Bird Seed and provide benefits that raise with the tier of the Consumable.

Let's go through them:

Rare Vanguard Boon

  • This consumable increases the amount of Vanguard Marks you obtain from doing Public Events and Strikes for 4 hours.

Rare Crucible Boon

  • This consumable increases the amount of Crucible Tokens you obtain from completing Crucible Matches for 4 hours.

Rare Adventure Boon

  • This consumable increases the amount of Materials you obtain from Adventure Chests for 4 hours.

Legendary Vanguard Boon

  • This consumable increases the amount of Armor and Weapon Drops from Patrol and Strikes for 24 hours.

Legenday Crucible Boon

  • This consumable increases the amount of Armor and Weapon Drops you get from completing Crucible Matches for 24 hours.

Legendary Adventure Boon

  • This cosumable increases the amount of Armor and Weapon drops you get from Adventure Chests for 24 hours.

Thesaurorum Curator Boon

  • This Boon is only unlocked once you complete the Exotic Bounty of the week.

  • This consumable increases the drop rate of Exotics from all activities until the next Weekly Reset.

  • This consumable allows for Bright Engrams to have a chance to drop from all sources until the next Weekly Reset.

Exotic Rewards

From completing the Exotic Weekly Bounty you will have a very low chance to obtain one of Louis's Unique Exotic Items!

These items are:

  • An Exotic Falcon Emblem that tracks how many Bounties you have completed.

  • An Exotic Class Item for all classes that involves Falcon Feathers.

  • An Exotic Ghost that is themed around a Falcon.

  • An Exotic Shader that make your Armor look like Falcon Feathers.

  • An Exotic Sparrow that is themed around a Falcon.

  • An Exotic Emote that is the Vibrating Glitch Louis had.

All of these items are permanent and can always be retrieved from Louis and your Collections Tab.

So, what do you Guardians think? Write down what you think below!

I hope you all enjoyed reading through this post and found all of the references I put throughtout the post! Can you find them all?

EDIT: Thank you for the Reddit Gold you Exo Strangers!

Foetracer: How it works, and why you shouldn't just go putting things on your head [x-post from Bungie.net]

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 08:41 AM PST

Saw this extraordinary SGA from Bnet user Zelrons (not me) and wanted to share it with the sub.

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/242915827?sort=0&page=0

Foetracer is an interesting exotic. Its exotic perk, Relentless Tracker, states that it;

Visually marks targeted enemies. Deals more damage to low-health marked enemies.

Not quite the clearest language if you ask me. Let me help clear up what the perk Relentless Tracker actually does.

When you place your reticle over an enemy within 100m they become marked with a large red X. This X is visible through all terrain, allowing you to keep track of your marked target even through walls. However if you look away from a marked enemy (remove your reticle from them) the mark begins a five second timer. If five seconds expires the mark is removed, even if the target is still on screen. Looking directly at a marked target will reset the timer to five seconds and the timer won't start again until you stop looking at them. In addition to this only one enemy can be marked at a time. Looking at another enemy will instantly remove the mark from the previous enemy and add it to the new enemy.

What about the damage buff? Now here's what makes Foetracer interesting. An enemy is classified as "low health" when they reach 30% of their total health. Once they've reach low health for every 1% of health they lose the player gains 1% of extra damage, all the way up to 30%. That means at 29% enemy health the player deals 1% extra damage. At 5% enemy health the player deals 25% extra damage. This makes your damage ramp up the weaker an enemy is. This buff of course applies to all damage by the player including supers and abilities, and stacks with all other buffs and debuffs.

Due to the nature of its ramping damage Foetracer is best used with weapons that have high firerates such as automatic weapons like Auto Rifles and Submachine Guns or Burst fire weapons like Pulse Rifles and Fusion Rifles. Weapons that deal high damage per shot like Handcannons, Scout Rifles, and Sniper Rifles will get little use out of Foetracer as the extra damage will often go to waste as overkill unless the enemy has an exceptionally large health pool like a boss.

Bungie can you make it so after a raid encounter is finished you show stats that you would normally show only if you wiped?

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 07:23 AM PST

It seems odd to me that some of the more interesting stats you see when in a raid encounter are only shown when you wipe. Like what if I am a guy who doesn't follow Datto or others and wants to try to work out the best possible DPS loadout for Callus? If I had access to the DPS numbers when we killed him that would be great. So how come after a raid encounter you flash on the screen quickly the stats so we can see them for science or simply for bragging rights? This has been a thing since D1 granted so I am not faulting D2 for having this "issue".

Bungie, you have a ton of cool areas rarely used. Use them. (Plus idea on how they can be used)

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 03:13 AM PST

Ok, so I was doing the Io challenges, and one of the names for the challenge made me think. "Pyramidion Raider" it says. But I'm NOT raiding The Pyramidion, neither in the Destiny sense of "a hard area to team up with friends for phat loot" or the Tomb Raider-exque "Delve alone into uncharted territory for phat loot and maybe some lore" sense. I'm shooting some Vex around the Pyramidion. FFS I'm not even going INSIDE to shoot some Vex.

I don't care what you do with areas like The Last City, or The Pyramidion, or the Leviathan or whatever when they are not being used in strikes or story or raids. But USE THEM!

Hell here's my idea just to MAYBE spark something off: turn them into Elite Lost Sectors. Raid difficulty level areas but under patrol rules in their area and you can bring who you want or do it solo. So for example, you go to the Pyramidion in patrol, find or make an entry point or solve a puzzle, delve deep in, kill the foes and the superboss, phat loot exclusive to that Elite Lost Sector. And you can go to NORMAL lost sectors in the world and do things there to make it easier or harder or unlock puzzles or open chests in the Elite or something, as well as get exclusive Lost Sector loot.

BAM! It would give Normal Lost Sectors a purpose, allows explorations of big places like The Last City or Leviathan, since it's under Patrol rules you can bring who you wish, and because of patrol rules if you make them tricky enough it can either work as a entry level practice for raids that anyone can do, or serve as a alternative to raids for those who seek fun. Plus more content. You kill like 5 Taken with one stone because fuck the taken.

TLDR: Use areas that are not used. For sake of suggesting something, make these big unused areas Elite Lost Sectors that work like mini raids with patrol rules and cool exclusive loot, then connect normal Lost Sectors on a planet to each Elite to do things and also give off cool loot.

You can destroy Argos' cannons BEFORE starting the fight

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 09:07 AM PST

After finishing Phase 1, BEFORE the cutscene where Argos wakes up/turns around, you can damage his cannons and destroy them before starting the encounter. You must use a VOID weapon, and you will see the red indicator on your reticle showing you are dealing DAMAGE. After a magazine or two, the indicator will no long show red. This means the cannon is DESTROYED. Repeat for both cannons, and enjoy this encounter with no purple death blasts FROM THE START.

If you wipe during Phase 2, you won't be able to do this again. This only works the very first time before starting Phase 2, BEFORE the cut scene.

Bungie, I hope reducing TTK is at the top of your priorities for the March sandbox update

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 10:04 AM PST

I am sure you are sick of hearing how D1 PvP is way more fun than what we have right now in D2, but I don't care, I have to take this off my chest: D1 PvP is way more fun than D2 PvP.

I made myself grind out the chest ornament for my hunter a week ago (my first Destiny 2 Iron Banner, BTW), and I got to say, I was reminded of why I made a hiatus before the first D2 Iron Banner went live. The horrible high TTK and the fun-sapping teamshot meta that sprang from it are going to kill this game's PvP, and no amount of faster movement, lower respawn delay and faster power recharge times are going to change that. In addition to that, you need to buff all the primary weapons, and you need to buff them substantially. And if you feel like you buffed something too much, buff it some more. Especially scouts and pulses. I am not kidding.

Forget about PvP balance, Destiny 2 needs a fun injection, and it needs it now. Guns feel like peashooters, and the only reason everyone and their sister is using Uriel's Gift, Positive Outlook, Origin Story and Antiope-D is because they feel the least nerfed of the bunch. The only other non-auto weapon being used is MIDA Multi-Tool, and that's only because it is a class above other scouts ("Third Eye" perk helps a lot). However, nerfing auto rifles is not an option. Buff all the other weapons, but don't even think of nerfing anything. In fact, buff autos along with other guns.

If you do not reduce gunshot TTK, the all-prevalent teamshooting is going to end up even worse than it is now, as it will be even easier for your opponent to move out of the harm's way (the reason we have this meta in the first place).

More frequent grenades / powers are not going to change that, because everyone will end up using their grenades in the first few seconds of a match, after which everyone will gang up again while the grenades recharge. Rinse and repeat. And if you reduce the grenade's cooldown too much, you risk turning the match into a grenade spam-fest. That is not a solution.

The reason I wrote this post is because I didn't see anything about your plans to reduce TTK / make guns be more powerful overall, and it has me worried. I want this game to be the best it can be, and I sincerely feel like reducing TTK is the right way to go. In fact, I think it is the only way to go.

Why do most yellow-bars and bosses have a stomp attack that sends you flying backwards?

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 07:55 PM PST

Dying from being knocked off the map feels cheap as fuck. Nobody ever feels good about these deaths. It's not like fighting games, where at least the player doing the ring-out gets a good laugh out of it.

Ring-outs are an extremely uncommon form of "threat" in the FPS genre (almost non-exist in RPGs), and generally makes melee / short-range playstyles completely unviable in high level PvE content. Ever see anyone run SMGs and a melee centric build in Prestige Nightfalls? Look at the most recent Doom, the game actually REWARDS you for going balls-deep melee with bonus ammo and health.

As it stands, I am really not looking forward to when Tree of Possibilities becomes the Nightfall strike and trying to run that encounter on Prestige. That boss fight is ANNOYING AS FUCK because the play field is very small and he is especially good at flinging the entire team off the map. Currently the only reason it is tolerable is because everyone saves their supers or the end in order to one-phase cheese the boss in the final room. That, by all means, is a failure of game design.

Can we get some legendary armour sets to match exotics?

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 05:58 AM PST

So I just got Aeon Safe for my titan and I thought how awesome I would look if my whole titan was kitted out in this aesthetic style armor, and it could easily work for a few other exotic armor pieces as well.

The idea would work like how ornaments work now. We would grind certain activities to unlock each part of the armor until we had a full set. This would increase incentive for people to play the game more and maybe enter activities they wouldn't normally consider.

Leviathan Raid.

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 12:59 AM PST

So today was the first time I've done the raid. And let me say this, it was fantastic. I joined a random discord group and they were trying for a lfg so I took a bite. I told them I hadn't done it and they didn't care, super cool guys. Got thru the whole thing in about 2 hrs it was great no bickering everyone was mature. That's the way it needs to be a community getting bigger by helping people who haven't done the raid. Now I just want to keep doing it. On pc btw.

A real world explanation to how the Exo were born.

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 05:02 AM PST

According to inventor, author, and computer scientist Ray Kurzweil (1948– ), computer technology is progressing exponentially, doubling in power each year. [ f(x) = 2x ] According to Kurzweil, by 2023, a supercomputer will surpass the brainpower of a human, and by 2045, computers will surpass the brainpower equivalent to that of all human brains combined.

Kurzweil says that in that year , we will be able to upload our consciousness into computers and enter a virtual existence, swapping our bodies for immortal robots (ala the Exo). People will die only if they choose to.

This, combined with the Traveler's arrival, explains a lot about how the Exo were made.

A question might say: "But the Exo are made to be war machines, how were they made by uploading human consciousness to robots?"

I will tell ya: During the Golden Age (presumably) Clovis Bray used human subjects to experiment uploading human consciousness to (the first?) Exo machines. The most notable subject is Cayde-6. Cayde was a human (presumably named Cayde) before. Evidence? Here (from a letter fragment in the EDZ; Cayde is sending a letter to his son, Ace):

"so there you have it, Ace, that's why I did what I did. I had no choice, really. It was that or the great beyond. Just know your dad did what he had to do if I ever wanted to see you and your mother again. You probably won't recognize me, since I'll be, well, a robot and all, but I'll find you, I promise-

-from the journals of Cayde-6"

An excerpt from Myelin Games's website (a notable Loremaster):

In Cayde's journal, Cayde describes completing a job for Clovis Bray. Clovis Bray was both a man and a very large corporation during the Golden Age. We don't quite know what the job was, however other parts of the Journal describe Cayde as a bounty hunter, so it could be like that or like debt collection or security, something like that, a dangerous job. In the journal, Cayde has been hiding out in the hull of a Clovis Bray orbital station for 12 hours waiting for this target to show up, a gun fight breaks out and Cayde damages the hull of this orbital station, belonging to Clovis Bray. Rather than make Cayde pay, Clovis Bray sends him a job offer, saying if he does this thing, his debt will be forgiving and not just for the damage to the orbital station, but all of Cayde's debt. We don't really know why Cayde has so much debt but I imagine it is a combination of being very trigger happy and liking gambling.

Cayde accepts the job and it turns out that this job offer involves converted himself from human to an Exo. The journal of Cayde-6 has a picture of a half human and half exo face.

So maybe, just maybe, the Exo were originally an experiment to immortalize humans like the statement of Ray Kurzweil above.

This is where my string of thoughts is cut. Hope you guys might find holes in my hypotheses and complete it with your own thoughts.

Thanks!

Best dialogue in D2...

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 09:23 PM PST

I had an unusually quiet raid group after clearing EoW for the first time on my alt, and was able to hear Benedict's "congratulations" in full:

Emperor Calus, exalted be his name, was unsure of your conviction. But that Vex Mind died screaming. I heard it.

The emperor was charmed by how you forced your way aboard Leviathan. Such wild abandon. Delicious. To obtain true power, you must give in to the ruthless aggression you exhibited today. Gorge freely on its exquisite, savage reveries.

Anytime you wish to dance with death, Leviathan welcomes you.

LOVE. IT. Everything lore-wise about Calus in D2 is really solid, but this quote in particular just nails it. It also sums up the really weird Guardians/Calus relationship. Particularly in the raid lair, we show up on his ship just to blow shit up for kicks, and really don't care which side it's on.

The fact that Benedict 99-40 and Taeko-3 exist together in the same game kind of blows my mind.

We got Coldheart (Arc). We got Prometheus Lens (Solar). What do you think the Void trace rifle will be like?

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 02:26 AM PST

My guess is an over penetrating beam that increases damage per enemy it passes through. Either that or the longer you hold the trigger, the beam will pull the enemy towards you which naturally will increase damage since the range gradually gets shorter. I liken this to a reverse tractor cannon with a constant effect. Although this pulling effect would not work on bosses, but it's still a plausible effect since it uses existing gun mechanics.

What are your predictions for the void ray gun?

Randomly generated gun appearance

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 05:54 AM PST

Since bungie seems like they will be sticking with static rolls, Someone should make a logirithum that randomly generates armor and weapon appearances so at least your next better devil's will look different. For instance you can have two of the same hakke ar, but one has a vertical foregrip and a peq box, while the other has an alg and a flashlight. None of the attachments would have any in game advantage, obviously.

Understanding Fists of Havoc

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 06:03 PM PST

While trying to kill Hungering Ogres in Savathun's Song with a Titan, it occurred to me that I didn't really understand how the Fists of Havoc super ability worked. Did I need to jump up before slamming the ground? Should I be punching or slamming?

I searched around a bit but couldn't find anything that explained the mechanics. Just lots of confident assertions that it "deals more damage the longer it's in the air", with no attempt to explain what that even means.

So, I did a bunch of experiments using Code of the Earthshaker (top tree). The key takeaways were:

  1. Jump up high before slamming to get the full benefit of Terminal Velocity.
  2. Slam close to your target, as damage falls off rapidly with distance.
  3. Throw one punch in between the slams to maximize damage.

If you want to see the long form, I collected the various bits into a video and added voice-over commentary: https://youtu.be/9adAvxh8nDE

Edit: #3 should be, "Use three high slams. If circumstances make high-jump slams undesirable, throw one punch in between low slams to maximize damage." See discussion with /u/Shotokanguy below.

Trials and Raid gear shouldn’t be part of the clan engram system.

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 12:56 PM PST

I'm all for helping out clan mates who don't have a lot of time to play, but this system removes the incentive to play the premier endgame activities. What may have taken me hours to earn, my clan mate was able to get in a matter of minutes.

I think the weekly clan engram, and call to arms clan engram should stay. Not really sure how I feel about the nightfall engram. Thoughts?

Plasma Beam Sky Turret

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 08:41 AM PST

I've received a communication from Cayde yesterday, didn't pay much attention but now i've read it and... Well, i'll copy&paste it here:

Pst, hey guardian... Remember those Flame Turret Schematics we took from the Cabal? We tried to make them work but our guys just can't keep them up for longer than 20 seconds. It seems it doesn't have that Cabal juice/mojo thing.

So here's the kicker: one of your warlock buddies came into our shop the other day and commented how WE'RE trying to do something YOU'VE been doing for APPARENTLY a few weeks now. Holliday asked this buddy of yours if it lasts longer than Cayde's design and she replied: "Lasts as long as there are enemies to kill". I knew she was just boasting in front of everyone but she left by saying these words: Wings of Sacred Dawn, Prometheus Lens, Winged Sun. Nonsense i know, but she said you would understand... What is it? Any Sky Turret schematics i've missed? Does it ACTUALLY fly or is it just a cool name?

TLDR: Using Wings of Sacred Dawn, Prometheus Lens and the top Dawnblade tree lets you stay in the air indefinitely.

Gods of Mars... Related to Fallen Gods?

Posted: 10 Feb 2018 01:11 PM PST

After replaying Rise of Iron and acknowledging the name of the 2nd DLC, I've come to realize that perhaps the "Gods" of Mars is not the Warminds, but most likely the Fallen. We know that the Fallen worship machine Gods to guide them for their survival. We've seen many of them in action, such as Sepiks Prime, Aksis, Fallen Saber (?), Kaliks, and Skolas. With the discovery of SIVA, the Fallen shifted their path to become gods themselves. When the Fallen found prototypes of SIVA in Mars, they most likely continued its development there and transported it from Mars to Earth and its Moon. The remnants of SIVA may have infected the warmind of Mars (it could either be Charlemagne or Rasputin, but most likely Rasputin, considering that he is the last living mind), and the Fallen would be aiming to utilize the Warmind in order to destroy the Traveler (i.e. force the protocol Midnight Exigent to continue). The Gods of Mars would be the Fallen Splicers, and our mission would be to either a) Pursue the Fallen and destroy their new Archon or b) Attack the Fallen and shut down Rasputin. A link between Rise of Iron and DLC 2 is inevitable, so it would be insane to see what can come out of this expansion.

Once a week, "This Week in /r/DestinyTheGame History" brings you some of the gems from this time last year. It's a walk down memory lane to give some perspective of where we were and how things have (or haven't) changed in the last trip around the Sun.

Maybe you made the post, maybe you saw the post, maybe you missed the post. Relive it or discover it for the first time. Either way, we hope you enjoy this blast from the past.

  1. If this doesn't make you appreciate the impact Destiny has had on some people's lives, I don't know what would. <3
  2. I died soloing the Nightfall because of Hungering Blade
  3. For those who want to bash Bungie for the further nerf to Red Death, they're just following Vanguard policy.
  4. The new PvP meta: a choose your own adventure game!
  5. Trying to explain to my wife she had to put my kid to bed because I won a streamer raffle might have made me feel like the biggest dork ever.
  6. Meanwhile, in the Destiny Weapon Balancing department...
