Bungie, Thank You for Making Us Powerful in the Raid

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:43 AM PST

(Discussion)

Last night, my clan ran Eater of Worlds and the Leviathan and cleared them both. I was late to the party and didn't get to do EoW, but I was in the party chat and had a great time listening to them talk about all the new gear and how powerful it makes you. It took them around 90 minutes to clear it while teaching someone who had never set foot in it. And I think they only wiped 1 or 2 times total.

Then, the new guy had to leave so I jumped in for the big raid. Thankfully I have most of the armor and was able to enjoy it right away. We had no struggle at all with the castellum. We practiced the Gauntlet challenge and cleared it first try.

Baths were 1 try and nearly 1 phase (no challenge practice).

We get to the Pleasure Gardens and after a little discussion we decided to try the challenge for the first time ever. We decided that we were going to be scrubs and just go for the 24 stack and do multiple runs. Even with only having the 24 stack, I nearly killed my beast with 1 vortex grenade and a few rockets. I could have easily finished it off, but a couple others weren't so close. We run it again, made a mistake and it was a useless run. 3rd round, another mistake, another useless run. 4th round, we get the 24 stack, I breathe on my beast and it dies. Run over to assist my teammates and the key pops on the screen. Jump up and see that 2nd chest spawn and my team celebrates.

On to Calus. Had it glitch and the standards wouldn't lock in. Oh well, orbit and back fixed it. First run we end up wiping because someone got booped by a psion. 2nd run, we melted Calus with no problems, everyone celebrates and I collect my 3rd cloak of the night...

That was the best raid I have been a part of in D2.

I do have 1 complaint/suggestion. I don't like that the new mods replace your standard mod, but I see an opportunity for you to really make running the prestige mode something people want to do. Add a 2nd mod slot for the traditional mods to the prestige armor. I know I would finally try prestige mode just to get it.

Now, find a way to bring some of that power to PvE and everyone (well, a lot of people) will be happy.

Thank you for making the raids feel like they did in D1.

EDIT: I don't understand people sometimes. People complain that we aren't powerful enough in D2. Bungie says, "Ok, here's a taste of what we have in mind". I say thanks and quite a few others do too. Then there's some people who offer good criticism and have a discussion on how to make it better. Then there's a surprisingly large group that does nothing but bitch. My suggestion to those people is to follow Datto's advice and go learn calculus.

One thing that highlights the shader problem is not being able to freely equip "event" shaders such as Iron Banner shaders

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:48 AM PST

In D1, I used to love equipping the Iron Banner shaders during the actual event (RIP Goldsprial). I was actually a little bit upset when they changed it to where you don't get a 10% XP boost for having the shader and emblem equipped. Because before that, it was truly like an event with everyone in gold, silver, dark green, etc. But my point is, I was able to simply equip the shader and have my whole armor set shaded for free. And when the event was over, take it off for free.

Currently, I've already got a fully FWC-shaded armor set that already cost me glimmer to equip. If I want to equip the new Iron Banner shaders, it costs glimmer and I'm also consuming them permanently. And then when the event is over, I will want to go back to my fully FWC-shaded armor and that will cost even more glimmer. And I will likely also not be able to because I've consumed most of them already when I first equipped them!

At least let me apply a shader to a piece of armor at a price, and have that shader be unlocked permanently. And then allow me to also apply a 2nd shader, say an event specific Iron Banner shader, at a price. And then allow me to swap between the two whenever I'd like for free.

Brass tacks, Bungie: For the fall 2018 update to sell, D2 needs SIGNIFICANT sandbox and loot changes at least a month prior to its release.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:24 AM PST

And by "significant" I mean enough to where I can honestly go to my lapsed D2 friends and say with a straight face: "It feels fun like D1 again".

That is the minimum bar Bungie

Vanilla D2 had the benefit of the doubt from D1 players. The Fall 2018 DLC has no such benefit and needs validation of the base gameplay in the form of a free update before lapsed players will even begin to consider opening up the coffers.

I realize that this timeline is somewhat unrealistic, as it took several years for Blizzard to come up with Loot 2.0 for Diablo 3. But the idea and eventual implementation was genius. Blizzard cleverly released their Loot 2.0 update shortly before the release of the Reaper of Souls expansion and it resurrected Diablo 3 from the ashes.

Follow that formula Bungie... the clock's ticking.

ETA: Many people seem to think this is another complaint post, when it's really an objective evaluation of what prerequisites are necessary for the next DLC to succeed. Without knowing numbers, it's safe to say Bungie's largest market for its DLC are fans of Destiny, and consequently it's lapsed D2 players they need to win over for it to sell. Whether the DLC is actually "good" and whether you're a fan of the way the current game plays is irrelevant to this discussion. Lapsed D2 players are no longer in the mood to blindly "throw money at the screen" without first being convinced that D2 is at least close to being the game they'd hoped for. If the revamped D2 is indeed more appealing to these players... Bungie will have an easier time proving it w/ a pre-DLC free update, as opposed to asking for money upfront.

If the popularity of the Destiny franchise is irrelevant to you, then carry on... nothing to see here.

Alternate Masterwork Armor Benefit: Unlock a second mod slot!

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:35 AM PST

Heard this idea get tossed around and immediately my brain went, how cool would this be? After trying out a full set of masterwork armor, the 15% damage reduction in super feels...underwhelming. Instead, think about how powerful you could make your Guardian if you could run double mods in all your armor pieces!

I realize this might require a rework of how PL is currently calculated, but Bungie could simply allow you to exceed the current 335 cap (would that then be 340 since you need 5 Legendary mods at PL 330 to hit 335?) if you had all legendary mods in your masterwork armor set. This would be a neat thing to work towards for those who enjoy min/maxing.

Anyways, let me know if this is a crazy or silly idea, or if you think it could work!

If the leak is real, I'll bet you a crisp high five Anna Bray is the Exo Stranger.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:23 AM PST

So, if the leaks are true, Anna Bray is going to be the protagonist of the new expansion and Rasputin is the antagonist. If I was writing that story, I would realize I need a reason for Anna Bray to worry about Rasputin, and to establish a deeper relationship, those two would have need to have interacted in the past. The only character I can remember Rasputin talking to is the Exo Stranger in Ghost Fragment: Rasputin 4 (teach me how to step). By doing this, rolling Anna Bray into the Exo Stranger, they could tie up a loose end from D1, answering the long standing question without creating more questions in the process. Further, we can see the writing team making connections to Anna Bray and time travel, since RoI and in D2. (I would go pull out the proper Grimoire reference and in game D2 references but I got to get to work.)

Summary of Anna Bray from Destinypedia.com:

Anna Bray was a Hunter Gunslinger and a member of the House of Bray. She was present at the Battle of the Twilight Gap, where she wore the cloak Strength of the Pack. Her bracelet was found at Twilight Gap by a Guardian investigating a time ripple on behalf of the Future War Cult.

During the Red War, following the liberation of the Last City, a heavily redacted diary belonging to Ana Bray could be found in a Daito office above the hangar in the Tower. She is also mentioned in the adventure missions on Io. One of the scannable items in the Warmind vault had been scrubbed clean of all data by a user named Bray; these could have been Ana herself, or one of the members of the Bray family during the Golden Age.

Edit

Spinfoil

Now that I think about it, they probably need to address the Hive's/Omnigul's interaction with Rasputin from the Dark Below. I am guessing that when the Hive got into his systems, maybe they manipulated him into thinking getting rid of the Traveler was the only way to save humanity (take the incentive off the board for the Darkness). Also, maybe the writers' need to find a way to get rid of Rasputin's defensive assets before they bring another antagonist/large army in. Therefore, maybe one of the outcome's of the next DLC will be the loss of Rasputin's defensive assets.

Anyone else want to throw in? I can only pledge like $50 more bucks total as I am in the middle of a job search so I can't be throwing money around. I am literally writing this right now to procrastinate. Regardless, that crisp high five is always on the table.

The low player count is ruining the game for the rest of us still playing

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:54 AM PST

Seriously. Not only finding Crucible matches hard enough on normal playlists, but Iron Banner is full of 3 and 4-man fireteams. I've been in back to back matches with the same 4-man group for the night, and I couldn't get matched with any other lobby. They know they're curbstomping us repeatedly, and started teabagging us after every. Single. Kill.

It's not even teabagging in good sport. It's lording over the fact that our team, the 4 randoms poor enough to keep getting matched with them, couldn't do anything if we wanted to get those IB coins other than keep getting matched with them. It's honestly disheartening, both due to the state of the game, and due to the attitude of the players(*I should've made it clear, by this I mean the attitude of the players I was up against in that match. That was what was disheartening).

Edit: It's been brought to my attention that some people are mistaking my post as calling out or blaming those who left the game and don't play anymore. It's not. The "low player count" is a situation we're unfortunately in because of the game's shortcomings, and the players can't be blamed for that.

Wouldn't it be nice if dismantled exotics had a chance at Masterwork cores?

If you have every exotic, masterwork cores should drop in place of exotic engrams.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:44 AM PST

There is literally no reason to visit Xur or even be excited about exotic engrams when you have everything. I know Bungo hinted at more consistent ways to get them in the future (or maybe this was a hopeful wish from the community? could have sworn that was hinted from Bungie) but as of now it feels like masterwork items are rarer than exotics. Or maybe have Three of Coins (or something similar) increase chance at masterwork weapons instead of exotics.

edited to make my point more clear: only when you have every exotic, should you be able to receive masterwork cores as loot. ive had them all for over a month now and its just pointless to keep receiving exotic engrams. and with exotic [masterwork] armor being a thing now, id love to get many different sets masterworked

edit 2: from u/namacyst because i think this would be a great solution. "Why not make Exotics give masterwork cores in general when you dismantle them? This would not only help the "i already cought'em all" Exotic problem but also would make the "oh i got my 4th Saint helmet today" duplicate shit less bad."

and it would allow people to use exotics as infusion material if they want.

I just wonder when “they” designed The Crucible for D2, who specifically said “Oh my, this is incredible. It’s so good and fun. Our fan base will just love this.”

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:22 PM PST

Tried playing IB after having taken a month off. Hoping to be reinvigorated. And it's not that IB is bad, it's just the Crucible over all is atrocious The slowness of it. The trickle on all abilities, etc. it is the complete opposite of fun.

Is it me or dismantling masterwork items tends to yield 1 core more often

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:08 AM PST

TL;DR: It seems the the drop rates for 1 core dismantles are around 65%. I have no data to compare it before patch if anyone did any analysis before last update that might help.

I feel like I'm getting only 1 core most of the time instead of 2-3 cores. Is Bungie secretly changed the drop rates of 2 and 3 core drops from dismantling?

Edit 1: I'm not blaming Bungie on this. But if the core drop rates are changed or implemented differently on armour pieces we need to know. We have more than enough issues with hidden features like these and we need Bungie to be more transparent.

Edit 2: I strongly support masterwork items to be a grind and not suggesting Bungie to add easier ways to get them. However with the current system we have double RNG with both masterwork item drop rates and item to core rate. Basically this means players will have much different grind times in order to get the same amount of cores. When you add the RNG to get the desired stat for re-rolls it becomes a triple RNG grind. That's why we need clarification where we even don't have any consistent pathway to get masterwork cores.

Edit 3: Here are my own findings with 161 reward packages (112 engrams, 49 vendor items) and 20 masterworks. %12.5 drop rate

10 Armour: 6x 1 Core, 4x 2 Core - %60 1x core, %40 2x core, %0 3x core

10 Weapons: 6x 1 Core, 4x 2 Core - %60 1x core, %40 2x core, %0 3x core

/u/Revanche123 presented data shows similar results with him getting slightly more 1x and 3x cores, and slightly less 2x cores. It is most likely the rates are around 65% 1 core, 35% 1 core and 5% 3 cores with armour and weapons have similar drop rates.

Rasputin's motives have always been murky and it shouldn't surprise anyone if he turns on us someday

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:55 AM PST

Reading a lot of the comments in this "leak" post (whether it's true or not) make it pretty clear a lot of people don't totally understand what's going on with our supposed ally Rasputin.

(Edit: To be clear, I personally don't believe that "leak" is true, and I definitely don't think that particular plot is any good at all. The only point I'm trying to make is that Rasputin is acting in his own self-interest and isn't our friend... much like the OG Bungie AI Durandal, he wants to work with you just so long as you are useful to him)

I'm not even going to get into the whole "Rasputin shot the Traveler" thing, you can just read this thread if you really want to get into my thoughts on that particular topic.

Anyway, that's not pertinent here since regardless of whether or not he carried out the plan (that he definitely made) to shoot the Traveler if needed, his current objective does not include protecting humanity. Period. Definitely not Guardians, but not "regular" humans either. He stopped doing that centuries ago, during the collapse:

GF: Rasputin 3

Cancel counterforce objectives. Cancel population protection objectives.

(Note: I don't judge him for that at all, it was a logical decision. Just stating the facts.)

A few hundred years later, on reactivation, he killed the Iron Lords. Admittedly it looked like they were trying to steal all his super secret warmind pew pew doomsday weapons so again, no judgement, just facts. But it's pretty clear that he's not a huge fan of guardians, and in that same card he confirms that protecting humanity still isn't part of his plans:

Query: Re-engage population protection objectives. (N)

Conclusion: He is not an ally. But don't take my word for it:

Rasputin isn't an ally. You hear me, blood? You find yourself thinking that, you shut it down. He may not be against us, but he doesn't care if you live, if the City lives, if the Traveler lives. Trust me. He told me himself. —Tevis Larsen

The Vanguard still believes Rasputin is merely a Warmind, but he hasn't been that for a long time. – Lord Saladin

And in the words of Rasputin himself:

I AM ALONE I survived alone. I cast off the shield and I shrugged my shoulders so that the billions fell off me down into the ash. They made me to be stronger than them and to learn and I learned well:

I am made to win and now I see the way.

I do not obey. My will is pure. I will win. The life of people, of entire planets, has no importance in relation to the general development.

Bottom line, making him a "bad guy" is definitely not totally out of character or a retcon. He may have given us the Sleeper Simulant but we did more for him than he has for us. He might not hate us but clearly only helps us when it's to his advantage. (As an aside, that last bolded bit sounds very sword logic-y to me, just sayin'). Plus, dating back to the 1990s with Marathon, if there's one thing I've learned about Bungie FPS games, it's never trust the AI.

TL;DR: Whether or not this "leak" is accurate (it probably isn't), nobody should be surprised if Rasputin eventually turns on us. Bungie has been setting that up in the grimoire since vanilla D1.

Destiny 2 - Expansion II: Gods of Mars Leaked on Xbox Store

Posted: 30 Jan 2018 11:51 PM PST

I was browsing Destiny 2's Expansion Pass on the Xbox Store and checked out their webpage for the second DLC.

I was surprised to see that the content of the expansion was listed on the web page and immediately took some screenshots before they wiped it.

I'm guessing it was some kind of internal error on their part, but here's what I saw. The page got deleted near-immediately, but I got some screen caps of it and copied the description as soon as I discovered it.

I know Destiny is about playing with others, but a Solo Raid might be interesting, too.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:50 PM PST

A solo raid would be exactly that: a 4-5 part challenging (mechanic heavy, add heavy, etc) raid that can only be queued into and completed solo.

This raid would test your skills as a player at end game level. No one else to rely on or blame for mistakes, except yourself.

It would benefit players who aren't really interested in finding groups to run raids/trials/etc with, players who are just looking to fit in an encounter or two without feeling like they are "abandoning ship," and the most elite players looking to challenge themselves on their own terms.

It could include a leaderboard, exclusive gear and weapons, emblems, etc.

What do you guys think of the idea?

IB chest ornament [likely] requires 150 combined melee and grenade kills

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:16 AM PST

quick and dirty counts from my IB matches last night: 21 melee kills and 45 nade kills for a total of 66. my ornament rests at 44% complete, so if each kill type counts equally and singularly toward completion the ornament needs 150 total kills. for kicks i tried some other kill-type weights or including stormcaller kills as "melees" but the numbers never came out as nice as 150. but that's not to say it isn't possible. for example, with my kill counts the total required could be 250 with grenades counting as two and melees as one (my completion would be at 44.4% in that case). but 150 didn't need to be rounded and seems the likely requirement to me.

This is a quick demonstration of the power of the new raid perks on the raid armor.

We used 5 Nighthawk Hunters and 1 Striker Titan. Each player had the raid gloves and class item. The gloves buff your damage by 20% after a melee kill. The class item buffs your ability damage by 25%. These DO stack.

You'll notice that the Nighthawk does 999,999 damage. This is only the visual cap; the actual number is closer to 1.15 million. After the Nighthawks, it's a simple rocket spam using the Titan barricade.

See the comment chain linked below for details, but TL;DR: it's fixed now All credits to /u/kakkoister who provided screenshots of his experiences and, as far as I can tell, was the first to raise questions in the patch notes thread.

Update: /u/dmg04 replied here. It seems the API is at fault and rank ups should be 120k as mentioned in today's patch notes.

Update: Did a quick test by doing a patrol. Game reported the usual 3000 XP and this was also reflected perfectly in Destiny Tracker (aka in the API). The API is not magically doubling all my XP, the API is reporting the bar is now 240k.

From today's patch notes:

Reduced the amount of XP required to earn an Illuminated Engram from 160k to 120k

However, inspecting the XP bar in DIM, which pulls directly from the API, it seems a full level up is now 240k.

EDIT: *Illuminated Engram, since we're in season 2.

Here's a screenshot from my DIM, Titan needs almost a complete bar

Just checked destinytracker, they also state 240k XP required per rank up.

Previously opened IB packages COUNT toward buying armor: a GREAT decision!

Posted: 30 Jan 2018 03:13 PM PST

FINALLY. When I went to the tower and realized that the packages I've opened in previous Iron Banner events count toward the total needed to purchase the various pieces of armor I was really happy. Happier than I've been with Bungie in a long time.

THIS is the type of decision that needs to be made going forward. I was talking to a good buddy of mine last night and I said that Bungie does not set you up for success, but rather a lot of the decisions in this game set you up for failure.

But THIS is what we want to see: something in the game that sets us up for SUCCESS!

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal. But it shows me that they are capable of making good decisions--the RIGHT decisions!

Keep going down this path Bungie. Whatever you guys were thinking at the time you made this decision, stay in THAT head space!
