MTV India is milking CS GO's popularity to run a scripted E-Sports Tournament

Posted: 07 Feb 2018 05:51 AM PST

A couple of days ago MTV Started broadcasting their newest TV Show UCypher; the channel's attempt to make E-sports popular in India among the normal population which is hooked to Cricket and National Football matches, as valiant and noble as the effort maybe, MTV has been milking CSGO's popularity to run a scripted TV show.

MTV has had a history in India of running cringeworthy reality shows which are severely scripted and the things which happen on screen are mostly just made for increasing the TRP Rating, it is said that crores (millions) have went into the investment of the show.

  1. MTV has no e-sports experience, and has no actual CS Talent casting or regulating the content which is being shown. "Bleh" is a very popular CS caster in India, and he is nowhere to be seen in the show, Bleh hasn't made any public announcement as to why he has to been made part of the show (as far as I know).

  2. MTV is so out of touch with the scene, they made a music video / promo content just to promote the show, fair warning it's cringe af. (link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtjBaWx09S8)

  3. To appeal to normal cricket watching audience they even added "EA Real Cricket" to the mix, which is an unheard e-sport ready game.

  4. Earlier today popular CSGO player Ankit "v3nom" Panth posted on Facebook a picture of his face being bruised. (https://imgur.com/a/112TJ), this stirred up the community and the failed legitimacy of UCypher and MTV was put under question again, later in the comments "v3nom" said that he was indeed lying and it was all makeup and fun and games, thus proving that it is a scripted and things such as this is used by MTV to exploit and tarnish the scene. In a comment he said that he missed the "xD"(https://imgur.com/a/nYqWa), in a screenshot I took after the post was uploaded and before it went viral there was no "xD" (https://imgur.com/a/XkA4x), and then he proceeded to tell me that he indeed messed up the copy paste and missed the "xD" (https://imgur.com/a/5tSdY).

Even if he was being funny or doing it for the lulz, he did post about this and sparked up quite a conversation. Considering the amount of rivalry, and anger portrayed on the show everyone was quite doubtful of its execution and legitimacy and being a publicity stunt to gather viewers for the show, which is quite an asshole move.

Moving on, the show doesn't even show the matches completely, just highlights, and thats the terrible part, they are squeezing in multiple games into a one hour episode, CSGO is a spectator sport and will always be a good one at it, MTV trying to just show the highlights of the game could throw most of us off, since it could be scripted or some iBuyPower shit in behind the scenes.

MTV has been quite keen about using V3nom being a popular player in the community, and me being a fan and supportive of how he is trying to bring a positive interest to the community through the show, v3nom's social presence and community liveliness is being used by MTV to gather a liking and farm audience for the show.

tldr; - MTV Milking CSGO to create a fanbase for its new TV show.
