Prize money calculation for Faze

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:34 AM PST

Recently there was a lot of criticism for Faze especially after their 4th place in Starladder i-League. I feel this all stems from their incredible run especially from the beginning.

Anyways I still think that it is good to be reminded what is the basis that you are comparing them to. I counted all ten $250,000+ tournament that we had since the team formed: From Dreamhack Masters Malmo to Starladder i-League that just concluded.

The total price money dotation of all these tournaments was $5,250,000. The maximum possible amount to be won for finishing first place in all 10 tournaments was $2,330,000. Faze managed to bring home $1,007,000 out of that money - or over 43% of the money to be had. The closest competition to them were SK Gaming with $748,750 and Cloud 9 with $673,000. Some other distinguished teams with good talent such as Astralis or G2 are at $375,250 and $255,500 respectively.

The strength of the Faze is that they grind things consistently. They always qualify for huge tournaments and 7 out of 10 cases ended up top 3 placement. I think this needs to be said in face of all these -Guardian +RandomHotPlayerOfTheMonth memes need to stop. We have seen all star players having huge impact in important games such as Guardian during last Major and sometimes the same stars go quite. However it seems that there is almost always somebody on the team to step up and as a unit they perform scarily well.

I think all things considered the team performed extremely well during less than 6 months since it formed. It was just one clutch that could have secured them the Major win or possibly get the overtime in their favor to get on 5th map in ESL Pro League that is about it.

Anyways I still think that we have some fantastic storylines for next few months as the teams will try to peak their form for Major. Will SK make it back as undisputed #1? Will NaVi deliver the results that their star power warrants and become something similar to Faze? Will Faze be able to continue being this juggernaut grinding top3 placings almost all the time? Or will we see the return of Swedes and Danes or will it be North American teams that will make things competitive? Exciting times.
