Smite - Developer Update: Improving the Console Experience

Developer Update: Improving the Console Experience

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 01:12 PM PST

I wanted to take some time to talk about SMITE on console. We know it has been a rocky road at times. We heard your feedback and the entire SMITE team took it to heart.

We agree that we need to improve, and every part of SMITE's development team will be taking steps to do so in the coming year. In 2018 we will commit more resources into making the SMITE console experience better. Many of these changes will take time and be rolled out throughout the year.

Here are a few things that are going to be changing:

  • More QA Support: In the past few months, we've added to the SMITE team. From marketing to Quality Assurance (QA), we have been growing our teams. Our new QA lead, HiRezRedd, brings several years of console experience to the team. His main focus will be to significantly reduce the number of bugs that make it to live SMITE, and ramp up the efforts that are dedicated solely to console.

  • Bug Report in Future Patches: Every day, St3alth and I scour the forums and look for bugs that we pass on to the QA team for fixing. Each update, many of these fixes get added and go unnoticed. In 2018, we are making that process a little more transparent. With each update, alongside Patch Notes, we will share a breakdown of the issues that have been fixed.

  • Streamlined Player Reporting: In the past, we haven't had a standardized format for submitting bugs, which can make fixing them difficult. When investigating bug reports, our first task is to reproduce the conditions that the player experienced so that we can take a look at what has happened. Sometimes minor details can make all the difference in finding out why bugs are occuring, so you can help us in fixing these issues by providing as much detail as possible, especially when a bug isn't happening consistently. To make this easier for everyone, we've worked with our support team to create a more streamlined process for reporting bugs. With the new system, players can be assured that each individual ticket will be seen by a member of the QA team. From now on, we will encourage players to utilize the updated support ticket system.

  • Network Issues: There are some issues that are out of our hands. Network issues and issues that stem from connection problems are impossible for our team to control. One thing we can do is better communicate how players are able to troubleshoot on their end. I'm working on a guide detailing how Network issues may affect players and how players can best combat those issues.

  • Long-term solution: Along with these changes that will improve our ability to address bugs, we are committed to improving the technology that supports our in-game UI. These changes will make for a better gaming experience on all platforms through increased stability and decreased susceptibility to bugs.

Be on the lookout for our bug status updates, starting in the 5.1 Live patch notes. Some bugs may take some extra time and attention to root out their causes. This means that not all submitted reports can be addressed with each patch, but we will continue to investigate and work on these issues. Please continue to submit your bug reports, as we are committed to investigating any and all bugs that affect gameplay.

We are looking forward to making SMITE the best experience for all players in 2018!

MY LORD

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 11:39 AM PST

Co-op vs A.I. is a strange, uncharted area of the Smite -osphere. But there's an even stranger new/ancient game mode that the Hi-Rez devs have hidden in every. single. patch. note. since. season. one.

It's called MY LORD! It's simple. •You grab 3 buddies and yourself.

•The 4 of you queue up in a Co-op vs A.I. game.

•The 5th lucky player who enters your game is instantly declared MY LORD! by all 4 of you in chat.

•This means that whatever MY LORD does in game, you imitate without question. You stick in the same lane as them. You take the exact same Relics as them. They got Blink So do you.

Whenever they base, you all base. You buy the exact same item as them if you can or something closer to it. Not enough gold? Shame on You, give your life for MY LORD! Let them know how much shame you have brought. you give everything that you have to protect the life of MY LORD.

You never flame. You never answer back. You never question the play making decisions of MY LORD. You follow them into battle with unshakeable loyalty. it's a character building excersise. try it.

also: if you don't have any friends you can always try and queue up as MY LORD and let your minions witness your truly incredible leadership.

Guys, this is just a bit of fun, no ones advocating being a douche. Not all things need to be super serious. I did not come up with this game I saw it and tryed it for fun so have fun guys that the reason we all play games in the first place For XD

Spacestation Gaming - New Roster History and Analysis

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 06:29 PM PST

On January 10th, Spacestation Gaming were officially announced as one of the team that would be participating in the 5th season of the Smite Pro League. A now known name in the pro scene, Spacestation has gained the trust of the community through great achievements and nice memes. However, now that the Rosterpocalypse has come and gone for our space brethren, how does their new roster look facing the next year of competition? First, let's look at the past and see how they got to where they are today.

The Organisation's History

Spacestation Gaming's beginnings was all about the love of esports… and Smite. Originally created by Snapchat celebrity and Youtube vlogger Shonduras, this space-themed esports organisation selected Smite as their first game to participate in, a game Shonduras was particularly fond of. Thus, on June 16th of 2017, Spacestation acquired SPL's very own Monkey Madness, a team composed of veteran players and bright recruits, managing to reach 3rd place in the Smite World Championship Wildcard qualifiers, barely missing their chance of going to the world stage.

Nowadays, Spacestation Gaming has become a known name in the esports scene, acquiring teams from multiple games like Playerunknown's Battleground, Heroes of the Storm and Vainglory to name a few. However, now that the Smite season has come and gone, Spacestation decided to shift into second gear and try to enter the Season 5 organisation pool, which was now limited to 6 teams per region instead of the usual 8. Considering what I stated earlier, that endeavor was a success and all that was left for them was to create a team that could possibly reach the top of the Smite team leaderboards…

And boy, have they assembled a team.

The new Spacestation Gaming : Champions of yore

JeffHindla, BaRRaCCuDDa, Baskin, andister and Aquarius. For some newer watchers of the SPL, this might seem like a really strong team composed of a lot of dominant players. However, for some older followers of the pro scene, more precisely for the people who watched the first ever Smite World Championship, this roster might be surprising.

Minus Aquarius and Baskin, this is the roster of Cognitive Prime, the first team to win a SWC ever. If we add Baskin into the mix, this is the roster of Cloud 9, North American champions of Smite Pro League Season 2, placing 3rd place in that year's SWC. The only player missing from this old roster is MLCst3alth who, sadly, can no longer participate in the Pro League due to conflict of interest. A small side-effect of working at Hi-Rez as one of their community managers.

JeffHindla : The Sex Himself

Role : Support

Top Gods : Sobek, Athena, Bacchus, Fafnir

Highest Achievement : SWC S1 Champion - Support for Cognitive Prime

Achievement during S4 : SWC S4 Quarterfinalist - Support for Luminosity Gaming

He has the beard, he vapes and he enjoys ska, JeffHindla is probably one of the oldest player in the pro scene, and also one of the most loved. As one of the 3 players around the world who participated in every single SWC, this support from New York has seen all kinds of action. Known for his versatile support god pool, legendary synergy with BaRRaCCuDDa and godlike facial hair, JeffHindla could be in the contenders for best support in the North American scene, if not the world.

BaRRaCCuDDa : The Legendary Hunter

Role : ADC

Top Gods : Jing Wei, Ah Muzen Cab, Rama

Highest Achievement : SWC S1 Champion - ADC for Cognitive Prime

Achievement during S4 : SWC S4 Quarterfinalist - ADC for Luminosity Gaming

The legend himself, BaRRaCCuDDa has obtained a reputation around the pro scene as one of the most dangerous ADC. Such reputation is rightly deserved. Never seen without his trusty support JeffHindla, Barra is the 2nd of the 3 players who participated in ever SWC. Known for his dangerous precision with hunters, intimidating aura and amazing plays, just like his partner in crime, he could be called one of the best ADC around.

Baskin : The Korean Superstar

Role : Mid

Top Gods : Ravana, Vamana, Amaterasu (As a Solo)

Highest Achievement : SWC S2 Semifinalist - Solo for Cloud9

Achievement during S4 : SWC S4 Quarterfinalist - Mid for Luminosity Gaming

Baskin, Baskinrobin, Baskintodaface or even ShingsSister (don't ask), he's the third player that transfered from Luminosity Gaming to Spacestation Gaming for Season 5. Originally brought over to Cloud9 as a replacement for the then legendary Solo player 0mega, he found immediate success with the team and was even sometimes called the best Solo player worldwide. Moving from the Solo lane to the Mid lane in early Season 4, with now about 1 year of playing in this new role, will Baskin rekindle the spark that will allow this roster to shine like they used to?

Aquarius : The New Blood

Role : Solo

Top Gods : Cabrakan, Cu Chulainn

Highest Achievement : SWC S4 Quarterfinalist - Solo for Luminosity Gaming

Achievement during S4 : SWC S4 Quarterfinalist - Solo for Luminosity Gaming

The most mysterious player on this roster, Aquarius isn't really 'new' in the SPL. Originally a player who entered the Pro League with Flash Point at the start of Season 4, he never really found his footing until entering the Luminosity roster. With the help of the legendary squad, he managed to become a steady player who can compete with some of the strongest teams in the league. However, his lack of experience can sometime show, especially when facing SPL veterans. Considering the other players in Spacestation, I'm sure that Aquarius is in good hands to become a force to be reckoned with.

andister : The Glass Cannon

Role : Jungle

Top Gods : Thor, Ratatoskr, Camazotz

Highest Achievement : SWC S1 Champion - Jungle for Cognitive Prime

Achievement during S4 : SWC S4 Wildcard, 3rd Place - Jungle for Spacestation Gaming

The last but not the least, Andister separated himself from the core roster to play with some of his other friends over at SoaR Gaming back in the Off Season before Season 3's Fall Split. After playing with multiple different rosters, both with SoaR and Spacestation, andister never really succeeded at getting back his former glory. He is known for his amazing performances during regular season, but also for his lackluster performances in LAN/tournament environments due to how easily he gets tilted when playing in public. His talent and skills are there for the world to see, now, let's see if the problem actually lies with who he's playing with.

We've seen this team play individually and we've seen an extremely similar team play together. However, the question on everyone's mind is whether or not a reunion will reignite the fire that once burned down the competition and made the world fear the color blue. Season 5 will answer that question soon enough. Don't forget to tune in on March 6th for the start of the Spring Split on Smite's Twitch Page. Until then, keep committing deicide everyone.

If you liked this analysis, please tell me in the comments. I would like to do one for each teams if possible. And please tell me if you find any problem with this.

Edit : Fixing some mistakes and some information errors.

Athena's Reach (her passive) is now considered a basic attack only

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 06:33 PM PST

  • Athena, Reach (Passive Ability) This ability has been adjusted to deal only basic attack damage, and thus only trigger basic attack item effects

Man I'm pissed. Being able to apply Poly, Ethereal and Soul reaver with 1 hit was soo good and now it's all gone. Terrible nerf! It was so common seen a character just at the reach of your passive, throw a taunt at the air and hit him with a good "Reach" with soul reaver was SO satisfying

New player on what is wrong with the game.

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 12:14 PM PST

Now i made a post when i started playing smite and all you guys were so helpful with my questions and I thank you. However this game is so beginner unfriendly i can't imagine. Now i am level 18 and i have no idea why i should be matched with people that are way too experienced for me to handle. My last 3-4 games have been vs people with rank X gods and clearly a lot higher levels that me. Why should i bother stick to this game when the game says fuck you go play vs ppl that you have no chance to beat. What is wrong with the matchmaking?? Sry for the rant.

Taunt vs Chiron - "Half-man, half animal. All dead!"

Season 5 Guardian Leveling

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:41 AM PST

I don't know if its the nature of duo lane or if the correct farming methods haven't been fully discovered but I seem to always experience the same thing over my past 20 games on PTS. Support on both teams builds defense, helps the adc and by the time everyone is around level 10-11 both supports are stuck at roughly levels 7-9. The supports then seem to flail about as the solos become the frontline until the late game when the support seems to be able to be relevant again. But while its normal to assume that supports are the lowest levels on the team, I've been seeing games where the difference is usually 3-4 levels worth for both supports on average to the rest of their teams, meaning that they struggle to do much outside of the occasional cc here or there.

This makes it really hard to frontline in the midgame in any capacity. Gold isn't an issue thanks to the Guardian Blessing but the experience seems to be a problem.

Anyone else noticing this challenge and have ideas of how to level with them better? I've been adoring the new duo lane in the early game, its incredibly intense and both the guardian and the adc feel incredibly relevant, but once the game hits mid game supports seem to become irrelevant till late game.
