Most productive work meeting of 2018. Got smithing up to 30, made a full set of Dwarven (and a Dwarven battleaxe), and got it all enchanted while upper management rambled on.

So I'm trying to adopt this cute little girl after I get married, right? But apparently I needed a house before I could adopt her, and the house had to have a child's room.So I JUST got enough money to buy the house and the child's room right? So I find the girl, adopt her, and head to the house. I didn't really furnish anything yet except her room so the house looks kinda creepy. So I'm talking to my wife, and she's saying she loves the house and that our daughter loves it here, so I talk to my daughter and she tells me how much she loves it and that she has something in her room for me... so I go in her room... AND LYDIA THE HOUSE CARL IS DEAD ON THE FLOOR! AND SO I TRY TO MOVE LYDIA OUT OF THE ROOM AND MY DAUGHTER YELLS, "HEY, PUT THAT DOWN!"

Needless to say, I have burned my game and called an exorcist.

Character Background Generator

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 05:30 AM PST

[TL/DR don't care to read the entire thread? Just want to start generating random backgrounds for your characters? Just scroll to the bottom and look for the link]

Hey guys. Like many of us, I don't just play Skyrim; I create in-depth backstories for my characters, then I roleplay the character throughout my play-through: I don't do what I want to do, instead, I do what I believe my character would do in any given situation, thus, my character's story unfolds before me, and I am simply watching him/her react to his/her surroundings. Playing the game like this adds an incredible amount of depth and life to the game.

So I decided to make a new character the other day, and as I was creating the background for my character, I realized that (subconsciously) I tend to create very similar backstories. I stick to several niches, and just re-flavor them with whatever I feel passionate about at the time.

So I set out to create a tool to help players like myself: roleplayers who unfortunately have a tendency to (subconsciously) stay within their comfort zone. So whether you've noticed that your characters always have tragic pasts, or always seem to have a ton of experience in combat, or always seem to be m young females/males… my "Skyrim Character-Background Generator" should help you break the pattern and enjoy a play-through that is totally different than your previous play-throughs.

My generator is a fully coded generator, NOT some guide where you have to roll a dice and match it up with your results on a separate page, etc… nope, just hit "Generate" and read you're the background for your character. It's been programed so that an absolute mind-blowing amount of outcomes may be determined. I've coded in every name for every playable-race/gender that has ever existed from every elderscrolls game (and even some out-of-game lorebooks)

Now it's important to keep several things in mind with this Generator:

  • 1- this is just a shell for your backstories. It will generate some key-points, skills, character-flaws, etc… but you must take it from there. You must fill in the blanks, you must discover how/why your character ended up in Skyrim, you must determine what happened after your charavters childhood, you may even determine how nice/kind your parents were and what your parents ambitions were, etc.

  • 2- when you start off in Skyrim, you are essentially a nobody, with minimal (or no) combat knowledge (this is why you are a novice in every skill), so this generator will not generate any background that fits you as some world-renowned warhero/villain or "the best archer in all of blackmarsh" for example.

  • 3- the flaw(s) generated do not have to be your only character flaws. Get creative.

  • 4- people change overtime, but certain things never change. You might be able to (with dedication and hard-work) learn new skills or overcome some fears… but it's pretty unlikely that someone like Hitler would ever Turn into someone like Gandi, or vice-versa

So I'll shut up now and let you generate a random character backstory:

(Skyrim Character Background Generator)[https://perchance.org/skyrim-character-background-generator]

I hope you enjoy the generator. Leave your feedback. If you have any recommendations or bugs to report I will be more than happy to update the generator.

I thought of a revolutionary thing that should be in RPGs with armor.

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:23 AM PST

Im suprised i have seen this yet, its such a good idea.

Truly customizable armor. As in, in-game you can literally change your armor model.

You enter a menu with your character equipped with armor, then a cursor comes up and you can edit the armor parts of the model.

You could spray-paint or color too.

There would be a zone in which your armor can be edited in and can't be edited out of. (As in I cant have a helmet with a 10 foot tall spike on it.)

Maybe rarer armor would have slightly bigger zones of edit than common armor.

Perhaps you could find tools in-game to be able to start editing. And different tools edit in different ways. This could make it easier for anyone to get into it. Wouldn't feel right to have a literal model/texture editor right off the bat, that would probably feel intimidating.

Maybe you could find very rare materials to tack on your armor. Like a beast's horn or scales.

Or rare materials that give you a limited amount of glowing paint. Or costly gold or chrome.

Maybe completing different feats gives you medals to put on wherever you want.

How badass would it feel to kill a tough monster, then place its horn on your helmet. Or farm it for it's scales to coat your armor with, one by one.

There could possibly be a 'hub' where you can upload your creations and download others'.

I would play that game for so long. I could seriously see this in Elder Scrolls. We still play and roleplay Skyrim HARD. Imagine spending DAYS making your own badass, or being able to go to the "armor hub" and download Sauron's armor. Or this and start out as a spartan. Or fucking Darth Vaders outfit.

But i think it's true potential would be in a multiplayer game without a download 'hub'. Where everyone's armor is one-of-a-kind. And you can show off.

If the game had multiplayer, people would be able to easily report others for inappropriate armor.

TL;DR: Customizable armor. Actually editing your armor. Find rare materials to put on it. Color it. Editing the model. In a multiplayer game, everyone would have one-of-a-kind armor.

I had a 2 hour complete playthrough last night and it was crazy. Here’s the story

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 02:57 PM PST

I've never had such a short playthrough. I made an orc, and had him start out at an orc stronghold. His name was Mollock. He was ugly and skinny, and was bullied by all of the other orcs his entire life. Hé wasnt a warrior and wanted to be a novelist. Tensions were very high between Mollock and the chief of the stronghold. One day, one of the orcs went with him out of the stronghold to have a drink at the old hroldan inn. Drink after drink the old orc seemed to be trying to get Mollock drunk, and Mollock got suspicious. They got into an argument and the old orc started to get violent with and when the inn keeper tried to put a stop to it the old orc killed her in his rage. The Inn keepers son then started attacking them both and the old orc started chasing him. Mollock grabbed his war axe and killed the old orc and fled from the inn.

He was upset and shaken, and started running toward the stronghold. He started connecting the dots, the old orc only took him out to challenge him and kill him. The chief put him up to it most likely. On the way back to the stronghold 3 hired thugs caught up to him and tried to kill him. A boiling rage was filling inside him that he's never felt before. He killed the three thugs and found a note- from Gatch at the stronghold... telling the thugs to teach Mollock a lesson.

They wanted him dead because they believed him to be weak. He saw red. He went into a berserker rage and when he got to the stronghold he killed every single orc there and saved the chief for last, and finally killed him too. In the aftermath he roared in anger and sorrow. He then cleaned up the mess and figured he was chief now. He took over the stronghold and proclaimed himself Chief Mollock.

6 months go by with him living alone at his stronghold, and while out hunting one day he was stopped by a bunch of guards, who accused him of murdering the inn keeper. All they knew was an orc killed her. He almost fought them, but then thought of the little boy who's mother was killed by the old orc. And grief over came him, thinking of all of the orc kin he himself killed. He gave in and they took him to cihdna mine prison. He spent several years there before he finally got released. During that time he realized he screwed up. He won the challenge the chief set upon him by killing the old orc and the three hired thugs. When he killed everyone at the stronghold he committed a horrendous crime. He had to pay in blood or gold. And he didn't have over 10,000 gold.

He went to a large stronghold with no armor and no weapons. He told them who he was and what he did. They told him to pay the price of gold or blood. Hé readied his fists and started fighting. He killed three orc men before finally being taken down and killed.

Before he went into the stronghold I deleted all saves so when he died he just laid there lifeless on my screen. And I sat there for a long time thinking of the playthrough I had. And I realized, this game is so fun and fresh if you have an imagination.

Quick question from first time player

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:48 AM PST

So I don't want to have to start game over, but I decided that instead of going 100 mage I'd rather be a hybrid rouge type since I like sneaking/pickpocket/lockpocking basically just doing bad shit (like I did in oblivion). I'm only level 6, but every time I leveled I upgraded magika and stamina once (on accident meant to do health). I still have 2 perks un allocated though so I've only spent 4 points.

Should I start over to reroll a essentially a rogue? I wouldn't change my race (Brenton) or this early in the game it doesn't matter. I do love having the option of the Fury spells to make people fight each other in my pocket too.

Today I learned a lot of people play TES games in 3rd person...for me that breaks immersion...same as I won't fast travel or run anywhere...

To be fair I did run and fast travel when I first started playing TES games (which was Oblivion)...

Also side note: long time Imgurian, but first Reddit post lol...
