| Started vanilla colony with 1 goal, capture everyone possible. Welcome to Rimcity, population: 195 Posted: 20 Jan 2018 11:55 AM PST Inspired by a RimWorld streamer, I decided to try myself how far can i get on Cassandra intense with no save&loading (I broke that rule when I got too attached to my colony around 100 colonists) In the end I've got fully self-sufficient city with 195 colonists and over 30 prisoners, lag got the best of me and I couldn't keep going all the way to my goal of 200. Anyway here is the colony potato quality warning My last mechanoid raid with 80 centipedes selected for scale, and their corpses Last tribal raid that made the game run with less then 1fps making it almost unplayable pic with 80 raiders selected for scale. How they looked splitted up, my guess would be between 600 and 800 tribal raiders and their defeat, 10 doomsday rocket launchers and a mortar salvo made them running scared. | I'm blown away at how fun this game is Posted: 20 Jan 2018 11:38 AM PST Little personal post here but I thought I would share. I have been following this sub for a little over a year and have always loved reading about in-game happenings, and overall just seeing a great community. I was on the fence about the game (loved DF), and just didn't have the time to dedicate to anything. Fast forward to last weekend and I picked it up because hey it's only $30. Played it during the week and wow I am hooked. My roommate was asking a bit about what I was playing and I was struggling to lay it out for him. He watched my first colony die to a heat wave and lack of food.. Even after a couple days it's pretty laughable. I let him play and make a save and he immediately tells me it will be the next game he buys. I'm surprised. Last night we hopped in discord and chilled; played our saves. We both had stuff to do today but we ended up staying up until 6am trying to "fix the fuckups in our base." It was just a classic case for us, telling each other we have to go to bed and four hours later still playing and bullshitting. I'm hooked and I can't wait to play more. Big thank you to this sub and everybody out there who perpetuates the positivity, it's refreshing :) [link] [comments] |
| The tragedy of my pregnant almost dead elephant Posted: 20 Jan 2018 02:21 PM PST I had two Elephants that I managed to tame who were basically better colonists than my humans. After a while Trouble got pregnant which was great because my 16 Animals tamer didnt survive Randys craziness. 2 Seasons later another Raid comes by - business as usual I thought but Trouble got downed almost instantly. When I checked her out she had serious brain damage afflicted by a pila and a consciousness of 17% This means she had no movement, her eyesight was almost zero and she was most of the time in her shed sleeping or being downed when awake. It was the saddest existence imaginable. My colonists managed to feed her until the young one was born. I had to put her down after that because there was nothing for her to live for anymore. Her son is doing great by the way. Hes still not an adult but can already haul things - I have to admit that I am very careful with him. After all of this I cant let him die. It was such a tragic story and for some reason it became the curse of my settlement. 2 of my colonists have brain damage now afflicted by a manhunter boar pack (!!!) and are almost useless. One of them has chemical interests but one smokeleaf joint downs him so someone has to tuck him in his bed every other day. This game always manages to surprise me and this is probably my favourite story yet. [link] [comments] |
| I never build spaceships because...I don't want to leave. Posted: 20 Jan 2018 03:19 PM PST It just dawned on that I always intentionally try to avoid the "end of the game". I never ever have let them build a spaceship. I am so invested in keeping my colony alive that i cannot allow them to flee.. ...from me... ... I am their posessive mad god. [link] [comments] |

| TL;DR My game pauses on its own every few seconds rendering gameplay impossible. Posted: 21 Jan 2018 12:49 AM PST Help! My game keeps pausing. Up until recently it would do it every 5-10 minutes - no biggie, just assumed it was finding it hard running on >>>. Started a game for the first time in a swamp biome. All was well initially but now it pauses after about 3 seconds, let's me press play and then pauses again. I can only assume that it's struggling with the sheer number of items on the map, as there's a lot more scenery than arid/temperate biomes. I've tried reducing the resolution from the 4K I have been running it on down to lower levels (1080p) and still no joy. My pc is a decent spec gaming laptop, installed Rimworld on the SSD, and 16Gb ram. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

| How to get a pawn to SIT for comfort? Posted: 21 Jan 2018 01:58 AM PST I like to restrict breaking pawns to my joy room and although they sit on excellent chairs when using say, the chess table for joy. When they have no particular "directive" in terms of eating or working or joy-boosting, they prefer to stand. How do I get them to sit instead of wandering? [link] [comments] |
| Thrumbo's, Sieges and Silly Randy Posted: 21 Jan 2018 01:49 AM PST So recently, Randy decided to surprise me with:
In that order, within the space of 20 minutes. When I look at the gear of the siege crew, they had a mortar launcher and multiple shotguns and rifles, compared to my starter rifle, revolver, plasteel shiv and bonded warg. I wasn't sure how the traders would react to an assault, and feared that they would leave before the attack began. I remembered that thrumbos enter man-hunter state when provoked, and devised a solution most devilish. I sent one of less useful colonists (Tasked with making joints and occasionally hunting) to stand as close to the pirates to shoot the thrumbo with a rifle, and then sprint to the siege camp. The thrumbo chased my colonist to the camp, where the pirates began firing at both of them. My colonist was downed quickly (he was lucky to keep his vital organs), and the thrumbo began ravaging the enemy camp. When the thrumbo had killed half of the eight attackers, they fled, and I positioned all of my colonist to remain indoors. I then set the allowed area for my fully trained warg to be a small area around my downed colonist, and the med bay, and my warg rescued my colonist. The thrumbo then died of it's wounds. So with a bit of luck from randy, and extremely silly tactics, I prevented a deadly siege without any losses, and in return, got new equipment from the pirates, thrumbofur and horn, and a some comfortable new hats. God I love this game. [link] [comments] |
| Just lost my best shooter just as my doctor was about to finish treating her. Posted: 20 Jan 2018 09:52 PM PST She fainted far from camp and I had to get her back. I didn't realize how severe her wounds were because the rescue was already underway. Life's hard on the rim b I would really appreciate being able to select colonists under rescue Tynan.
