[Complaint] If the game pauses between each battle to ask us whether we want to Battle or Leave, why doesn't it also give us the option to switch Pokemon?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 05:44 AM PST

I was battling a gym, starting with Machamp. Took down a stupid blissey but my Machamp was nearly fainted. Then I got the option to battle the next Pokemon, Alakazam. Of course Machamp is a poor choice against Alakazam! But I had no option to switch Pokemon until the battle started... Alakazam launches a quick Confusion and my Machamp is fainted. And of course, I'm out of revives completely.

Why not an option to switch to one of the others in your party between battles? This is exactly how its done in the handheld games, and I see no reason this should be any different - It adds a little bit of time, sure, but we already have a big pause during the transition anyway.

Or i'm just salty about losing my machamp until I can find a way to get another stupid revive

I still miss the summer of 2016.

Arguably many could say that what we have now (three generations, better gym system (?) raids, weather system) are great which they are, but man I loved that feeling of walking across a college campus on a sunny day and as many as a third of the people around me could be playing Pokémon go.

Nowadays, while there are still millions of players, because of the games sudden popularity and then drop off many people ridicule or say "you're still playing that game?" Etcetera.

[Question] I don’t get it - why not just make all gyms EX raid capable?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 05:10 PM PST

"Not all gyms are accessible at all times," some will say. That's true, but as many have suggested, they should make it so that the EX raid pass doesn't get used up until you successfully beat the Mewtwo. It could be at a specific date in the week and continue to occur daily, with a trainer who has an EX pass able to continue to use that pass on that weekday until the raid is finally completed.

Then, people could just delete their passes if the gym continues to turn out to be inaccessible. And with all gyms being able to have EX Raids, the likelihood to get another pass to replace a deleted one would be much higher, so it wouldn't be that much of a loss.

Inaccessibility isn't a valid excuse anymore - there's a way around it. Making the raid more open in terms of time for one and giving the options for players to eventually throw away their pass if they can't access the gym. Why not implement this idea and then make all gyms EX raid viable?

Why is everybody so hyped about high IV's? Legit wondering

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:33 PM PST

I don't see the purpose in powering up or evolving a low level 100IV mon over a level 35 50 IV mon like does it make that much difference the IV?

I miss old gyms

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 04:18 AM PST

I really miss old gyms and the big reason is that there is no challenge in gyms anymore.

I play at nights in a fairly small town which has maybe a dozen regularly active players. We'd trade the gyms pretty regularly but we'd often leave something halfway challenging to defend a gym. Working past a Dragonite or a Tyranitar required you to build strong, specific tools. Blissey was a bit much, but it was the same; you needed a good Machamp to efficiently clear it. You needed a bit of knowledge and a bit of diligence to build powerful pokemon, and outside of the crazy multi-Blissey 10-tall Gyms, it was pretty fun.

Now for me there is nothing especially interesting about gyms. Maybe I have simply outlevelled the entire town (most people are roughly 29, I am 34), but I don't care about strong moves or strong pokemon; I always let the game autofill my teams and I just steamroll everything.

A big part of this is the decay mechanic. By the time I even begin my walk, most pokemon have bled out roughly 30-40% of their motivation.

Punishing the big pokemon doesn't help either. Seeing a Tyranitar on a gym doesn't make me think "oh scary!" or "great, a challenge" it makes me think "hah, that thing's definitely lost all its motivation, what idiot put it there".

Part of me thinks that Niantic might think this is okay because they have firmly pulled the reins away from the player in terms of creating endgame PvE content and given it to themselves in the form of raids. A sentiment I remember before I took a hiatus from the game (maybe 9 months ago) was that soloing raids was the only interesting content; that might be fun, but I enjoy my night/early morning walks!

I am curious to know whether I am the only one who feels this way. I'm sure that while Niantic has done their best there is only so much they can do to retain country/small town players.

Gym filled by spoofer while being attacked by 7 trainers

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:30 PM PST

So, something funny/irritating happened yesterday to my raid group and me: we were preparing for a Groudon raid on a gym that has given EX passes before so about half an hour before the raid we tried to take it down to turn it over to our color.

The gym was red and controlled by a well-known local spoofer that, besides multiple reporting, has not gone away. Between the 7 of us we managed to take down 4 of the 6 pokémon defending the gym and, just as we were going to defeat the 5th it was suddenly filled again by the same trainer's account we've just defeated.

My question is: How? Doesn't the gym lock out team defenders for putting new pokémon in while the gym is being attacked? Sadly I did not grab a video of the feat but I do have screenshots of the trainers that appeared while the 7 of us were trying to take him down.

Would appreciate any guidance on how to report this, as he is a constant stone in our shoe and have not been able to get him banned (probably because of the insane amount of money he gives to Niantic)

Edit: appreciate all the replies, now we know why: the timer is 10 mins after the first pokémon is dropped. Thank you for your time and hope Spoofers never get a prize in their cereal again.

Level 5 legendary raids are the only thing keeping group raiding alive.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:10 AM PST

Honestly all I see if I go into my Pokemon Go chat almost all the time I see players actively looking for people to do legendary raids and then there are the occasional people who look for Absol raids every now and then. If it's not for a legendary players would rather spend their time soloing level 1-3 gyms then trying to get another player to do a level 4 raid unless they need that Pokemon for their dex.

[Question] Plus Strap Replacement

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 05:56 PM PST

So, I recently got a Plus to celebrate my becoming an "official" Nintendo Pokémon Professor. Use it as an ice breaker because I'm kind of a big guy with a beard and tattoos and wanted the kids in the tournaments I judge to feel like they can relate to me cuz this guy is basically wearing a pokeball on his wrist. My problem is that the wrist strap included barely fits me, doesn't fit my style, and I can see it snapping. Does anywhere know where I could get a stylish nice looking leather band instead of this shoestring?

New gyms (and pokéstops?) added to the game?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 09:41 PM PST

I woke up this morning and checked if there is anything interesting to catch. From my home I can't access any pokéstop, actually I can only see around 4 stops and one gym at all from here.

But a few moments ago I logged in and there was a second gym in my viewing distance. A snorlax is already defending it for more then 10 hours, so it was added before midnight (CET).

Has anyone else recently discovered new gyms or pokéstops?

Have I been shadowbanned?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 11:55 AM PST

To preface this, never used third party apps or hacked my game or botted, I just walk around and catch.

I'm not a hardcore player but when I feel like it I open the game to see if anything is around and have noticed the last few months that things would appear as normal for a moment or two, then all vanish for a minute. If I do tap a pokemon to catch before it vanishes I can catch it no issue.

This thing really causes me to not wanna play because I don't wanna stand around for a minute waiting for my game to show the Pokémon again.

[Story] My dad's sad legendary raiding story

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:42 PM PST

My dad lives in a very rural town. He's never been able to do a legendary raid before. He came to town for Christmas and was finally able to complete 3 legendary raids... but he didnt catch a single one.

At one raid, every other person visibly in the group caught the legendary, except for my dad.

Low and behold, my dad got an Ex-Raid pass for that very gym where everyone else caught the legendary except him.

Only he's home now. Not here No Ex-Raid for him.

(Idea) Ex raid system

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:18 PM PST

I think they should make ex raid passes as a very rare reward for raiding teir 3-5. Like a 0.01% drop rate and have no expiry or set date and make mewtwo a teir 6 egg that spawns maybe once or twice a week at a random gym in a 10-20km radius. That way if people can't get to that one they can try again next time without having to try and get another ex pass. It would make their announcement of raiding more for a greater chance more believable. That way hardcore players aren't complaining that level 5 accounts have mewtwo and they don't and it also gives incentive to raid more because as we all know after the 1st week of legendaries people start to get bored with raiding and it can be hard to get numbers for raids in some smaller areas. It also means people will be more likely to buy raid passes which means more for cash for Niantic. This could also be a good way to implement the mythical pokemon e.g. mew, celebi etc. And have a different raid pass for each one. Sorry for the bad formatting I'm on mobile.

We need better balance in the weather system IMO

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:58 PM PST

No, not balance in what weather is on the app, that would ruin it. I'm talking about spawn balance. Alright, for a lot of people this isn't an issue, but personally after 5 days of clear weather and NO fighting types appearing, this is bugging me. Alright, currently it seems biomes still have a large grasp on what spawns during the weather, which is alright at the moment, however because of that certain types that would be boosted will be near impossible to find. For example, I live in a forest biome I believe. I'll go out into my small town and start walking my set path. In cloudy weather, I'll find Gulpin, Weedle, Venonat, and MAYBE a Marill. Okay, guess I got very meh spawns. I'll go walk at my college campus, and I get.... the same thing with the addition of Koffing. Okay, maybe next day will be better.... and the next.... and the next day. I basically end up getting the same Pokemon I would have been receiving even without the weather system. Little to no Fairy or Fighting types ever will spawn. Alright, what about Clear weather? Same thing but Hoppip, Vulpix, Sunkern, Oddish, and Paras. Okay, maybe rainy weather will be better. Nope, almost the exact same Pokemon as clear show up with the occasional Spheal.

My point is, weather can end up being negligible if you're in a bad biome. I have yet to get ANYTHING beyond Spheal from the water update, haven't seen any Hoenn starters outside the event, barely see the Gen 1 and 2 starters outside of Bulbasaur and Chikorita, and I don't even want to know how bad it would be to try getting the Larvitar or Dratini candy now to evolve them. This is all because weather isn't balanced at all. I think Niantic should at least make it so weather spawns can override biome spawns and have an even chance of picking from the weather type pools maybe barring windy weather since only Dratini would spawn then. I don't have any desire to go out and play in certain weather anymore because, even if it is a desirable type I would like, my spawns will be overridden by a crap Pokemon that gets amplified because of its typing.

The idea of the weather system was the bring diversity to the regular spawning system, and while I do technically see more of a variety in Pokemon, I feel just bored when I'm capturing only Poison or Grass types.

Bring back the game corner

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 05:55 AM PST

I had this thought walking to work this morning. Wouldn't it be interesting if they brought back the game corner games from the original titles.

The coins already available in the game could be used in increments if the developers didn't want to add another currency and the prizes could be something as simple as 10 pokeballs to as complex as a 10k egg or a super incubator or, even better, rare candies.

It certainly would add a new dimension to the game and would make it easier to obtain some items that are hard to get.

Sorry if this is a repost, but I just had this thought half asleep and was like "it ain't bad"

Did the first weather boosted groudon that happened in my city today, it was glorious.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:04 PM PST

I live in Brasília, Brazil. Its a bit more complex than this but I think I can td;lr my city climate in something like : 6 months with sun/ZERO rain and subsaharian humidity, 6 months of rain all day. (Its like Kyogre and Groundon are in an eternal fight here. ). So yeah, For the first 2 weeks I actually had some hope that I would fight one or two groudons under clear weather. After battling him 20 times, many times under others umbrelas or fucking trees, checking weather change hourly even if I would not be able to play, I gave up on this. So, today was an atipical beautifull day in the middle off eternal cloudy / rain, but the climate still was "partially cloudy" from 7 AM to 7PM. I was heading my way to the supermarket, after taking a walk in a park, and realized the weather changed ingame, at 7PM.

My imediate reaction was to get mad, because the weather had to change precisely after the raids ended ( and after I ended my walk ). But some dude in a raid group i'm in said "There is a groundon until 7:30, anyone wanna come?" So yeah, I hoped trafic would help me and went on my way. When I got there, I was astonished, there was no way I could park my car there, and well, the gym that was inside a kids playground had more than 60 people in it. I realized the entire city was thinking the same thing I had, and people just woudn't stop coming, even after I caught my groundon ( fucking 73% -_- ), when I was already rushing myself now to the supermarket, I would say there were at least 100 people there, maybe even more. I wish I had taken a picture because it was really glorious, but I really went out of my wait to do this raid and I had to buy stuff for people in my house and I had no idea what excuse I would use.

Now at least kyogre will be glorious, I waited so much for this
