Moira should have a facepalm emote

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 06:16 AM PST

I think it would be the most hilarious emote in the game! Perfectly fits with her character. Could be used after a team kill or a team wipe.

Don't scream "MERCY REZ ME" in voice chat, please

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 11:49 AM PST

Basically the title. I know what to do, I play this hero for a reason. What do you think, that I'm just flying around, minding my own bussines during the teamfight, and then, the words of gospel come to me: "MERCY FUCKING REZ ME" and I suddenly remember "Oh, yes! I actually can rez this poor soul, why didn't I think about before he so kindly reminded me so?"

Seriously please, it's really annoying.

Overwatch League commentators have a bad habit of burying teams.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 06:41 PM PST

For those who don't know (or maybe this is a more common phrase than I think and I'm a buffoon) "Burying" is a term used in the world of professional wrestling when someone who is part of the show makes an on screen talent look bad in a way that makes you lose investment in them. Making them look pathetic, weak, or unworthy of watching.

"Don't bury the talent" is pretty much rule number one as a pro wrestling commentator. It's the commentators' job to keep us invested. Making someone we're supposed to be invested in look like crap turns away viewers. Why would we want to watch someone that the show itself is telling us is no match for their opponent?

Even in non-scripted professional sports. Imagine if in an NFL football game that is between the number one team and the last place team. Sure, we may KNOW what's going to happen, but it's the job of the commentators to call the action without bias and give us a reason to believe we could be surprised. You can't say "They've been failing here here and here. I don't see how they can pull this one off." Great. Then I should probably just not watch because I know how it's gonna go, right?

The Overwatch League commentators have a tendency to overhype the best teams and be incredibly harsh on the not so good teams. This isn't to say you can't point out the shortcomings of the team. You just have to have some tact. Point out how they're expected to switch things up in order to counter the strategies of the better team. Point out where both teams have their advantages and weaknesses.

Don't act like you're seeing a ghost when the Mayhem gets the better of the Dynasty in a fight, or when the Dragons pull off some great plays against the Spitfire. Don't treat it like a fluke. Yes, it's surprising to the viewer, but acting like this shouldn't be happening makes a team look bad even in victories. It makes a viewer think "Oh, the better team must have just slipped up. This won't happen again, surely."

And, for God's sake, show more enthusiasm for the teams you're not as into. I hate calling commentators biased, but you can certainly tell they enjoy calling a Fuel game more than a Fusion game. Don't get starstruck and make a small percentage of teams seem like the only ones that matter. There's a degree of acting to all commentary. If you can't act excited for all the teams in the league you're promoting, then you need to improve that.

What do you guys think? Do you feel like this is a problem as well? Maybe I'm biased myself because I've always loved the underdogs and I'm a Florida boy myself. These are just observations I've made comparing their commentary to that of NFL or pro wrestling commentators.

Shanghai Dragons Encouraging Messages

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 04:09 PM PST

The Shanghai Dragons have it rough, and I feel for them. Being young, training all day everyday and losing while living in a foreign country is probably incredibly discouraging. I think it would be cool if we sent them some encouraging messages to their Twitter or Facebook or wherever. They don't have to be your favorite team but they could definitely use some support. Maybe they'll see them and at least know we want them in the league. I for one will be rooting for them.

18 matches into Overwatch League, the team that wins the Control map has won the match every time.

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 08:27 AM PST

This is probably heavily influenced by the fact that if there is a tiebreaker it is always on control. The last match between the Valiant and the Fusion was a perfect example of this where the Gladiators*(edited) won the Control map to start their comeback then won Li Jiang in the tiebreaker round to take the match.

I'm interested in how long this will continue.

Please Blizzard, give us some kind of option to hide our career profiles.

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 06:25 AM PST

It's become fairly obvious in the last month or so that a lot of players on this Reddit would benefit from being able to hide their career profiles/levels.

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Example 4

There's been so many matches I've played in the last week where a player (or myself) gets flamed because last season they played Mercy and this season they "should stick to their left click hero."

This wouldn't be a problem if they couldn't see my profile. At this point, I avoid playing Mercy EVERYWHERE. I don't even play her in QP or Arcade because I'm afraid my hours will get too high on her and I don't want others to see her at the top of my most played and be forced to play her in comp.

This is something totally outside of the actual game that affects the way people play the game. If I try and go Tracer or Widowmaker, I immediately get hit with "why is a Mercy main playing ______?" Which is even more ridiculous because in my "All" tab, Mercy is like 4th down, but apparently people only look at competitive seasons.

I've seen countless people forced to switch to Mercy because "you're a mercy main" and so many people answer back with "only because I'm forced to play her because I played her one season."

It's getting out of hand and the ability to see career profiles is only adding to the toxicity in the game. What benefit do career profiles have to other players when all they're used for are to talk shit on players who aren't doing as great as the toxic person thinks they should? "Oh, only a 58% winrate on Widowmaker? Trash." "Only 6 hours on a hero and you feel confident enough to bring them into comp?" "Maybe get higher than 38% accuracy on Mccree and you can bring him in comp."

Please Blizzard, to cut out a huge way people are toxic in the game, allow us to hide our career profiles.

Overwatch roles rework suggestion: defense -> specialist

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 05:18 AM PST

So, there has been a lot of discussions on this topic. For the community, the main issues are:

  1. Both offense and defense heroes are called DPS, and there is little to no hero selection impact on wether your team is attacking or defending (even though the game still has a tooltip that says you should pick 2 defense heroes when defending). People will run offense or defense heroes regardless of the situation.

  2. The community discusses a lot about certain characters roles, if they fit or should be transfered to a different one.

So my suggestion is to remove the defense role and add the new specialist role. Specialists are heroes who take on different approaches and have special abilities (area denial included). They're not straight up damage and mobility like offense heroes, can't heal like supports and don't have over 400 HP and shields like tanks. So here's how the specialist role roster I'm suggesting should look like:

Specialists:

  • Bastion
  • Junkrat
  • Mei
  • Sombra
  • Symmetra
  • Torbjörn

I'd throw Hanzo and Widowmaker to offense list here. They're straight up damage characters (with mobility) and I'm not sure if being long ranged is enough to call them specialists. But I wouldn't actually mind if they were, they have some utility abilities and can deny an area too afterall.

Edit: Thanks for the visibility, guys! Great and valid discussions under de comments. :)
