over the past few months i've been making some api tools that i'm now able to share with the community

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 02:32 PM PST

http://gw2lunchbox.com/

as of right now it only has 4 tools, but i use them all daily/weekly even tho they are pretty crude

i'll go ahead and copy the descriptions i have of them here

Black Lion Hunters Board - for those of us that have the Black Lion Hunters Board in their home instance, the most profitable choice is more complicated than it seems at a quick glance. the drop rates are different per tier which makes the most expensive T6 option not always the most profitable choice overall.

Dhuum Timer - running a Dhuum run and don't want to have to remember each callout? attending a Dhuum run and need a reminder of when certain mechanics trigger? line up the start of the timer with the start of this timer and it calls out when things happen during the fight so that you can focus on the fight while a robot calls everything out for you

TP Price Comparer - search for any item in the game and compare it's price to any other item you search for. do note that some items are not sellable and will have a value of "N/A." the grey number below each value is the amount of that item are on the TP currently

Provisioner Token Helper - lists the current cheapest provisioner items to buy off of the TP. select the ones you're interested in and copy the WP links so that all you need to do is buy the listed items and go to the places in your copy/pasted list. for those of us out there that don't mind making the items you can also click on the "open gw2efficiency.com" button to port the items over to gw2efficiency for the cheapest way to make the items or even use your own materials in the calculation

i am open to suggestions for any of the existing/new tools that you may have. i like to add features when i'm not raiding/making videos

i hope that any of these are helpful for you guys :D

Why I don't like Lion's Arch - Apology and how to make it better.

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 05:48 PM PST

So first and foremost, I want to apologize to both ANet and the community for my angry post about Lion's Arch yesterday. I know that the "Lion's Arch is bad" stuff has been done to death, and as a few people mentioned, New LA is already part of the cannon, so there's not much that can be done to change it without giving LWS1 the finger. "Lion's Arch is dead, long live Lion's Arch".
I also know that ANet works very hard on this game and I'm sure there are staff who are heartbroken to have their hard work and artistic design constantly shoved in the dirt, and I certainly didn't help any with my post yesterday. I wanted to offer some well-thought-out criticism of why LA desperately needs a change, but I feel like ultimately my post just sort of turned into an angry rant and I ended up being an asshole about it. My conclusion of "Bring back Old LA" stemmed more from my frustration of never having experienced LWS1 and therefore having a huge gap between what the novels and personal story portray LA as, and what LA looks like post-Scarlet. "Bring back Old LA" is not going to fix things, only recreating LWS1 can do that, and that's a whole different discussion.

So what is the solution? Because while I'll admit I was an asshole in my original post, it doesn't change the fact that many of my criticisms are valid, and judging by the massive number of upvotes and comments, there are a lot of people who agree that they just don't like New LA. If we can't go back, and we can't do another rebuild, then what's to be done?
Well, u/Nanaltalia posted this comment in my original thread, which, as I set off for work this morning, got me thinking of how to improve New LA. So, since I've already done a post where I was mad about the current state of LA, now I'm gonna do a post where I offer some hopeful discussion about how to realistically improve New LA as it currently stands based off of my three main points from my rant.

(I swear to god, guys, I'm not trying to be a kharma-whore by making a whole new post for this, I just felt like if I added it on to the end of my original post as an update the 98% of people who have already read my original post would have missed it. Reddit doesn't notify people when a post is updated, and I think this is important.)

So for those that don't have the patience to go back and read my initial wall of text, my three main criticims of New LA were as follows:

1) It's empty. The paths between the major player utilities are primarily open space with very little visual flair.

2) It has no history. Aside from the drill in the harbor and the ship-houses on the west side of Commodore's Quarter, there really isn't much in the way of historic landmarks to tell the story of the city's past.

3) The design/layout. New LA is not set up in a way that is indicative of it being a port city. Despite everything that happened in LWS1, LA is still the city that connects all other cities, a place where all races can interact free of politics and prejudice, and the home of the BLTC. The city's design should reflect that.

I'll try to keep my suggestions limited to stuff that can be added or altered, while steering clear of suggestion that require new content to be created, or existing content to be radically changed. I'm not going to pretend to know if ANet has any existing plans for how LA will fit into future content, or that they have the time and manpower to actually implement these ideas, but hopefully if this LA really is here to stay forever, they'll at least take a moment to consider how players view the city and ways that they might improve it. So here goes.

1) Starting the list with ways to make LA feel less empty, I'll jump right on back to Nanaltalia's comment about adding market stalls. Right now, the Trader's Forum lies entirely empty except for a single apple cart. Why not fill it with market stall and wagons? Just take a stroll through Divinity's Reach and you'll see a huge diversity of wagons, carts, stalls and vendors. There's tons of 3D assets that are already in the game that can be used to spice up the forum and make the walk between the TP, bank, and crafting stations feel more alive. Hell, while you're at it, move this Black Lion representative out to the forum to display the current selection of seasonal weapons and give them dialogue that points players in the direction of the vaults for those who are interested in spending their claim tickets. Just that would be a huge step forward, but why stop there? The Grand Piazza is empty 90% of the year. Why not add a fountain or a statue for people to gather around? Perhaps build something out of scrap metal and pieces of Scarlet's machines to honor Tyria's heroes and as a monument to LA's destruction and rebirth. It'd be meaningful, historic, and iconic. Lastly, we a big-ass ship at the lobster port. It'd be a good visual addition, and it's show off the nifty mechanism that allows the claw to open up for boarding... and please, at least give us one lion statue somewhere in the city. It's Lion's Arch. The name says it all.

2) Moving on to ways to include history in New LA, how about taking some of the iconic pieces of Old LA and re-purposing them in New LA. Take one of the old banners from the old TP and hang it outside the conch. I don't know if the old fountain was completely destroyed in the attack, but why not take the head (or make a replica) and put it up in the Crow's Nest Tavern? Maybe have an Asuran krewe digging up one of the old gates from the harbor. Heck, I don't know, put a vandalized steam minotaur in an alley somewhere or something. Just add little details here or there that give clues to the city's past.

3) The design is perhaps the most difficult thing to talk about because there's not really any way to change it without asking for a major revision, but nonetheless I'll offer what thoughts I can on how to make it feel a little more like a port city. First, the pathways need a new texture. Whether it's all of them, or just the most traveled ones, using the same texture for the buildings and floor is a no-go, in my opinion. If you look at what we have now, there are clearly patches where an arched brick texture shows through, so why not make that more pronounced, especially in areas that see a lot of travel? Instead of using the whitewashed concrete texture as an overlay, use something similar but different, such as this texture used on the outer wall. Bonus, it has green which means it'll add a bit of depth and wear to the walkways if used sparingly. Second, I think it'd be great if the bank and TP switched places, and the waypoint were moved next to the conch. This way, the bank is in an enclosed space with one entrance, the TP is open to view from the Trader's Forum, and the WP puts you right next to the bank and Grand Piazza, which would encourage people to use it as a gathering spot. Other than that, there's not much else I can think of that would be reasonabe to change, but even so it would be a huge improvement.

Anyway, it's getting late, I need to get to sleep, and I've spent far too much time writing this wall of text, so I'm not gonna bother with a fancy conclusion or anything. Those are my thoughts, feel free to leave your own below and hopefully we can gather together some good ideas here. Maybe we can convince ANet to look into improving Lion's Arch, even if it's just in little ways here and there.
G'night.

Does anyone else miss the weapon skill training system?

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 03:59 AM PST

So back when Gw2 launched, there was a system in place for earning your skills on all your weapons. Nowadays, that system is that you get your second skill at level 2, your third one at lvl 4, and so on as you level. But back then, this system was that you start out with your basic attack, then as you used it you would gain experience and fill up the icon of the following skill that you last earned. You didn't need to be lvl 8 to have all five skills and there was a sort of pride in having all 5 skills on a weapon set. This system is still in place in elite specializations for the 5'th skill, but the system is so buggy that it's passed through by picking up a bundle or mounting so no one even knows it's there anymore. (At least this is the case with me. I can't recall a single instance of having to actually wait to use my 5 skill)

Now, i know, this isn't very important. It's not game breaking or anything like that. It's just not as interesting as the current situation, at least to me and to the guild mates that I've mentioned this to. I'm just curious. Does anyone else miss this? I know it's a long shot, but could it be possible to add an option that reinstated this?

Tl:couldn't bother - Does anyone else miss the old Weapon and Utility Skill system?

Revenant - A Cosmetic Discussion

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 09:16 AM PST

Hi! I had a quick couple of small, nit-picky cosmetic suggestions for Revenant that I thought I would share. First one is one I'm sure many Fashion Wars 2 players are familiar with as a Revenant; the annoying hand glow. I'm not suggesting they remove the hand glow altogether, but I think it would make more sense for it to act like the Elementalist elemental bracelets that appear only when they are in combat. I know, silly small pet peeve of mine, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.

And here's an even smaller nit-picky thing to point out, but just recently I finished crafting Astralaria. I love the axe and its space-effect, but I was disappointed to find out that axe skill #5, Temporal Rift, didn't apply the Astralaria space-effect onto the default red rift.

I know, I know. These are all silly little things, but the cosmetic angle is one of the main reason's I play this game. I'm curious to know what other Revenants think about this topic.

Here is a link to the forum post dicussion.

THANK YOU, ANET!

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 09:11 PM PST

I was thinking and thinking about whether to post this.. but I feel like I had to since I am bursting with happiness.

On Sunday at 1pm I received the most precious and best gift in the whole world: my baby daughter. Why would I thank Anet for her?!

Well, simply because Gw2 gave me the possibility to meet one of the greatest guy and father I could have ever imagined.

Without the game she wouldn't exist. And so I simply wanted to thank every single person who was ever involved in creating gw2 and every person in game who let to the meeting of my boyfriend and I. Your game gave me so much joy and love when I thought I couldn't cope with the world anymore. From the bottom of my heart: T H A N K Y O U!!

You Guys have a community to be proud of!

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 09:08 AM PST

Two days ago, while adventuring in Sparkfly Fen, my frustration with my 5-slot bags reached a boiling point so I went to Lion's Arch to find answers on how to expand my inventory space. The responses were mind-blowing.

Everyone started to offer advice on the cheapest and best way to go about it (My beloved Asura is a pauper). I got so much advice I couldn't keep up. People even started offering emotional support, saying they knew the feeling and encouraged me to just keep at it.

Most shocking of all was when I received a 15- slot bag, a 12-slot bag and a 10-slot bag from three kind souls.

I just wanted to say Thank you to all the people who chose to offer a hand by way of experiences, advice, and gifts.

ArenaNet and you guys should be proud of what you have built.

I have several groups I lead for raids/fractals and it would be awesome if we had the ability to categorize our friends into different categories to make things like inviting/talking to them a lot easier.

PUG Dhuum CM | North America

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 07:12 PM PST

Hey all, we formed a small splinter guild just for the purpose of killing Dhuum CM, there's been some ups and downs and a lot of people falling away from our static but we managed to get there.

Player Role
ListenToMe.5130 Banner Slave Greens
Naro.9250 Scourge Tank
TkMan.9630 Scourge Kiter
PuppyMischief.7584 Chrono Greens
danny.9683 Holosmith
Enko.6123 Scourge
CaptainAJ.7961 Scourge
Light.3162 Mirage Greens
OneFellSwoop.1386 Chrono Main
Luna.4265 Druid Healer

Report: https://dps.report/UmM7-20180119-214716_dhuum

A few of you may be questioning our current composition, but I assure you it worked very well. For starters we were able to bounce epidemic off the Echo and it's fairly consistent if the Tank who is always attached to the boss can be the initial bouncer. We also felt that Scourge were a lot more durable than Weavers with an AOE Condi Cleanse and the ability to pre-Barrier the entire group for Soul Splits. It took a lot of pressure off healing which allowed us to only bring 1 healer who stayed on the group permanently.

Tank was able to run full Trailblazer without really impacting that much DPS. The Tank was able to Kite in the prephase with the other Kiter taking it onboard with Sand Swell later during the Dhuum Phase. We brought a Holo to boost the Condis, and we brought a Mirage to add an extra layer of Condis, and they are excellent at mobility without much DPS lost from doing Greens. We thought that the 10% Phase might be an issue but it was completely fine with the Epidemics. On one of our earlier attempts we actually hit 67% on Dhuum before the first Soul Split with good RNG on Alacrity Spreading and Echo Bounces.

One Healer YOLO.

Heads-up on YouTube Partner program and the impact on Guild Wars 2

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 01:26 AM PST

Hello everyone,

I guess a fair share of you will care very little for this topic, however I do believe it should be getting a little bit more exposure, as it is important for some people who also happen to be important for Guild Wars 2.

So first of all, the thing that started it is this post on YouTube Blog. To make it shorter for you to skim through, here's a quote of the part that sticks out:

Starting today we're changing the eligibility requirement for monetization to 4,000 hours of watchtime within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers.

Now, I guess most of the lurkers/regulars on this subreddit are aware that Guild Wars 2's marketing is a tad lackluster (to say the least) and that the Content Creators help a lot in making the game shine beyond the boundaries of our community. Of course, big names like Wooden Potatoes or Dulfy will likely remain unaffected by these changes, but smaller YouTubers, or the ones who make shorter videos might suffer from these measures.

To some of us, YouTube/Twitch is a side gig, but for others, it is a source of regular (albeit not always reliable) income, and losing the partner status might be a terrible blow.

While I myself am fine, I hope that this post can help out in making you, one of the 165K people subbed to this reddit, help out the ones who need it. It is as simple as opening up a new tab, looking for the creators you have watched, or still watch, and tossing a sub at them on YouTube, maybe watching a bit of their content too. A sub costs you nothing but the few seconds/minutes it takes to find the creator. You can even disable notifications if you fear they might get intrusive!

This is not a post to whore for subs/revenue, just a heads up that some of the smaller YouTubers who make Guild Wars 2 related content, especially the non english speaking ones, might be facing a crisis, and that YOU can help saving them...

Edit: typos and removed that_shaman from the "likely to be unaffected" as he is directly affected (and that proves how much these changes affect the people).

Anybody else feel bad for the dredge?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 11:50 PM PST

Started a norn for the first time recently and I gotta say, I feel for the dredge. Like yeah, they have sided with some unseemly factions, but they are just trying their best to get their freedom.

They've been enslaved and used for their entire history by different major races and now they are just trying to make it on their own.

I just feel bad beating them up.

And also they are these little blind creatures that have managed to create pretty great technologies. It's impressive.

Very interesting to see that concept art for a monster. To my recollection there hasn't been anything like it in Guild Wars 1 or 2, could be a great boss fight.

Dhuum CM Sickest Guild [NA]

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 04:02 AM PST

After many many hours we finally downed it.

Kill Video - https://youtu.be/753XtWmuBaE

Plug - http://www.sickestguild.com/apply

Full VoD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/220011395

DPS Log: https://dps.report/F7Jn-20180119-005913_dhuum

Less than 1% Wipe: https://clips.twitch.tv/OilyTriangularMelonKappaWealth

We ran Druid tank, 4 DPS, Warrior, 2 Chrono, 1 Heal Druid, 1 Condi Druid (kiter) The only reason we ran triple druid was because we used it as a way to deal with the mechanics easier while progressing through the fight but we started to get good pulls and wanted to keep the same comp since we were used to it. More supports makes for cleaner runs during low percentages however it definitely isn't the most optimal set-up. That being said I'd recommend our comp to groups who are struggling with mechanics and want to get further into the fight but know that DPSers need to be pulling good numbers to pull it off. We had the chronos and heal druid do the green circles.

Edit: Forgot to add this but here is a portal strat we used for the 5 Minute statue event. https://clips.twitch.tv/RichVainPandaKevinTurtle (Full achievement at end of vod linked above)

Hey, when are we going to get some screentime for Rox?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 11:49 PM PST

SPOILERS

One of my guild mates pointed out to me the other day that Rox hasn't had significant character development since the Molten Alliance.

Marjory gets to deal with her sister's death and hunting Lazarus/Balthazar

Kasmeer has the whole religious crisis and her relationship with Marjory.

Braham is busy being a whiny snot faced brat

Taimi is of course amazing and still deserves more screen time.

Canach is delivering sass and getting aroused by the Commander's foot key.

Rytlock is letting gods loose from shackles and channeling power from human gods and legends

Scruffy 1 sacrifices himself for Taimi Scruffy 2 tries to kill Taimi

Caithe gets to babysit Aurene

Aurene gets all growed up

And Rox gets like 4 sentences in 3 seasons...#wheresthelove
