Learn Dota 2 - any tips on early game storm spirit?

any tips on early game storm spirit?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:12 PM PST

Hi, I have started learning Storm Spirit, I read a lot of guides about the hero's build and skill combo.

I've tried a few games and it's actually not really difficult when you have your item and snowballing (kaya, bloodstone, orchid).

My problem is during the early game phase where its range are not really far and kinda squishy. Zoned out often. Especially against tinker if he kept lasering and rocketing me. Even if he doesn't I'm losing if I trade hits.

What should I do to be able to farm and at the same time zoning opponents out?

Should I use Static Remnant to get creeps and use the overload to harrass?

Is there any tips in how to own a mid lane?

Thanks

edit: I'm playing at abit low than average MMR, 2800-3000ish

Jakiro Skill Build?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:55 AM PST

I tend to max my dual breath then ice path first and have had success with that. They offer lots of control/early control and damage, but from what I've seen most people go liquid fire first.

What situations would warrant each build? Should I always be maxing liquid fire first? I have a lot of games on Jakiro (66 games 60% winrate) and my solo is 3.7k, but I can't quite figure out what to look for when determining what build to go.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

TIL: Lotus Orb reflects some ground targeted spells

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:32 AM PST

I was playing a game as Lion and cast Earth Spike directly on an enemy, who then popped Lotus and reflected the spikes on me.

Ok, fool me once, but I'm not gonna let that happen again. Next time I faced him, I let him activate Lotus and cast Spike on the ground in front of him and.. got reflected on and stunned myself.

Looks like Earth Spike, Sand King's Burrowstrike, Zeus' Lightning Bolt, and Alch's stun are all reflected whether they target the Lotus user or not. Are there any other weird interactions? And does this also apply to Linkens?

How to use Morphling's new ult properly ?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:03 PM PST

I'm not going to lie.... i miss replicate but however i love how atribute shift dosn't cost mana, thats nice and all.

But i can't find a way to use his new ult in a good way and most of the time i find it redundant and i just go back to regular morph since i deal more damage.

My way to play morphling is just to skip his ult and max his other abilities first, usually i play him in a more standart way (Carry and i go treads-linkens-eblade-pike-skadi-bkb and those kind of items)

When do I use Juggernaut’s Blade Fury as an offensive skill?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:27 AM PST

Hello, ur average 2k-er here. I'm wondering when should I use blade fury as an offensive skill to kill the enemy offlaner. I would usually max out my passive critical strike first and have just 1 point in blade fury for those clutch spin and TP back to fountain, but I've seen many pro players getting a skill point in each of juggernaut's skill set, then proceeds to max out his blade fury. Most of the time I would not be able to catch up to the enemy offlaner while attempting to kill him. Is there a situation where I must max my blade fury for its damage? Or must I do it every game?

How to actually comeback against megas?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:20 PM PST

https://www.opendota.com/matches/3697566676

Here I was the sniper, we lost map control at 15 mins but I still managed to farm and was able to defend pretty well, my whole team is quite behind but the fact that I stalled the game allowed them to get farmed as well, anyway eventually enemy gets megas and from there it just looks like pushing is impossible unless they are without at least SK and Enigma, but that never seemed to happen. In the end I was even losing focus and was basically just autoattacking everything coming inside the base.
What was the right thing to do here?

Leshrac: Have you seen this hero recently?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:00 PM PST

There are a lot of heroes that I rarely encounter: visage, oracle, arc warden. They still appear from time to time, unlike the disco pony though.
I honestly cant remember a game with a leshrac. Feels bad man.

How much does apm affect mmr?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 11:47 AM PST

Basically title. How much is high apm/click efficiency/moving camera to check other areas/etc. needed for improving mmr? Or how far can you get on the ladder with being average/below average speed and skill with mouse? For example, consider someone who can land the monster combo or react quickly as needed, but not micro the camera or courier or illusions, etc as effectively. How much is this type of player gimped? When does mouse/keyboard/camera practice really start paying off?

Any Personal Advice/Tips&Trics for Mid Laners

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:41 PM PST

Hi, Im a Legend[0] Mid Laner, I have been playing for a quite a long time now but I've noticed that my MMR just won't go up nor go down. My personal Growth is somehow stuck on 3k for months now.

Looking for any advice about 1) When to push and when to control lane ? 2) How to get back from being underfarmed after being outplayed ? 3) When to roam or should I roam ?

Every kind of advice/tips are welcomed, even if you think it is a basic-knowledge. I just want to improve somehow!

Thanks!

General advice on Ember?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 01:11 PM PST

I'm admittedly pretty new to Ember and I clearly don't understand his playstyle. I realized quickly that he is actually terrible at manfighting if his shield gets popped, so I tend to only gank or teamfight. My typical pattern goes something like:

1) Gank all early and mid game.

2) Split push mid to late game and then Flame Remnant/BoT to team fights just before they begin.

3) Flee from any opponent that tries to stop my splitpushing (unless they're a support or crazy weak or something)

I typically start: Stout, Tangos and Culling mid lane. Safe lane sometimes. If I'm mid I focus on farm, but if I'm safe I focus on using shield to kill the offlaner with friendly support stuns or slows.

I rush BF before BoT. From there I try to get Daedelus, then Linkin's.

My biggest issue is teamfighting. I typically try to SoF as many enemies as I can while still being safe. I'm not sure how to use Flame Remnant in teamfights exactly.

I've been thinking of a Radiance/BKB build and then going straight tank mode after that, picking up both talents in Flame Guard, spell amp and Flame Remnant CD. BKB ensures your shield doesn't get popped until its duration has ended. How viable is this?

Thanks

Playing tinker with force staff

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 12:24 PM PST

Just for a rough idea of bracket im 3k mmr. Whenever im playing tinker in a game where force staff is necessary, ie vs clock spectre or other people who can get on you easily I can never just go only force over staff even though having both seems excessive. I don't see how you could split push with only force as you would be so vulnerable. Any tips or players who go foece and are successful

Thoughts on Training Polygon custom game

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:10 AM PST

I think this is a really useful training tool for dota. It has loads of features such as manta/sleight/phase dodging of all skills, click speed and accuracy training (with RTZ at position 2 in the leaderboard) and loads of other things like skillshot training. I think some people on this subreddit might get a lot of help from it:) I saw it today for the first time on monkeys stream and was impressed (also im reaaalllly bad at the click accuracy one)

Player coming from smite and need help

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:44 PM PST

Smite player looking to try dota and I have a few questions

I'm a casual smite player and I'm just thinking of giving DotA a try. Other than the camera, what're some key differences between DotA and smite? Do any characters play similar to any smite God's? What're some good beginning characters? What things do I need to know? How do builds function in this game and what do I need to know to create builds?

Come join me in dota 101

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:05 PM PST

Regarding my post earlier this week https://www.reddit.com/r/learndota2/comments/7s86fk/starting_today/

I forgot to mention that when I'm teaching dota, just watching isn't the only way to learn. Another great way of learning is to be right there in the action. What I mean is, come join me in this games! The best way for me to teach you is also when I'm in game with you(where I can see your mistakes, your strengths, etc). For example, today I will be doing ward wednesday where I discuss how to play an effective 5, so while I'm teaching how to 5, by having you join me and playing a position 1, I can also give you feedback on your position 1. So tonight, come join me on stream and we'll que duo ranked together. I would prefer if it's someone trying to get better at a position 1 and around 2k mmr because that is the bracket I'm focusing on this week. Let me know if you guys have any questions!

Kaya on Zeus?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 01:55 AM PST

I've been thinking about how Kaya seems like a bad item on Zeus. It's not that it's bad per se but Zeus has a lot of weaknesses early on and damage isn't one of them. I have like 6 straight losses on him and I've always built Kaya first but thinking about it now it doesn't even seem good till like your 3rd or 4th item.

It feels like you want at least two of the following most games (force, eul's, blink, veil, aether). What do you guys think? Should I just skip Kaya?

What items should I aim to buy as a roamer in the late game?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:27 AM PST

Lately I've played lot of Mirana roaming and I always endend with Aghanim,Blink,Bots and , if the games were longer than 40 mind, even with Eblade and Dagon. The problem that I noticed is that, despite being very farmed, we lost some games because we didn't have utility items like Mek or Pipe.

So I questioned myself, should I be buying those utility items or is it good going for a core build as I did? Who should buy items like mek/pipe when the game goes very long? Should I buy them if the Support doesn't for whatever reason?

Stopping the habit of always listening to your team

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:53 AM PST

So we all played with that one guy who thinks he's the best shot-caller and player to ever exist, but he's actually the worst and him not talking would boost the team's win-rate and morale by a lot.

And I've realized that not everything anyone tells you is correct, even if he's confident while talking to you.

I am not telling you to be an asshole to your team but I am saying not to take everything from them as a rule of thumb to follow, be a critical thinker and search for what seems best.

If you think what your team is telling you is correct then follow it, no need to be egotistical about it and end up trying to come up with other unefficient ways to do a certain thing.

And yes, I'm posting this to vent after playing with 4 others who think they're hot shit.

Item progression...

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:16 AM PST

Is there a natural progression for the items you pick up or does it truly depend on who you are playing/playing against.

I've noticed that most games I've played it is always boots that are picked first and from there on it is all over the place. I understand the quick boots to get movement speed and cheap stats/buffs but what should I do after that? If I'm playing a carry, should I build into a defensive item or something to help with farm?

I am still very new to the game so my apologies if this is too broad of a question. I guess what I'm looking for is what indicators should I look for to decide which items to build?

Downloadable custom games to practice mechanical skills

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 03:22 AM PST

Are there downloadable custom games (arcade?) which are designed to practice mechanical skills? Such as movement and trading etc. Or just educational in general?
