Heroes of the Storm - Malfurion's difficulty is no longer "easy."

Malfurion's difficulty is no longer "easy."

With the new Malf rework, he's far from being an easy hero, and with a 2,000 gold price tag I'm sure some new players are picking him up. Comparing him to the other easy supports (Li Li and Uther) he doesn't belong there. He's at least a medium, possibly even hard with the micromanaging he now requires.

Roses are red, the new patch makes me nervous. A player you were matched with has left the game or disconnected from the service.

Last patch has made me had this way too often.. About every third game gets cancelled like this. Anyone else having the same?

Edit: I don't think it's dodging. I used to have no problems at all but since last patch it's almost clockwork.

I have been trying to work out a specific build bath for blaze to make a little guide like I usually do for hero's that I really like; but one specific path is hard to pin down because so many of his talents are situation specific so from one game to the next you have change your build. All the talents still seem to compliment each other well while countering and bolstering compositions in unique ways. Blaze is really well designed, I'm having fun on him!

Why the hell are the AI replacements so bad? Aren't there different levels of AI that you are capable of playing against? So frustrating that Blizzard throws in pleb AIs that completely ruin the game.

Look, I know some people are calling for Hanzo nerfs but lets be rational

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 12:37 PM PST

Because I saw a Chen for the first time in 7 months the other day. I really thought we had squashed this.

Where's the balance team?

Edit: a lot of people have accused this post of being thinly veiled criticism about Hanzo. (Dozens, countless dozens, don't scroll down) that's 100% not the case and I want to be 100% clear: Chen has been meta defining and allowed to sit at the top of the winrate charts for too long. I am calling for justice I am sick of seeing Chen banned or picked in every mode, and shooting tanks with his tank buster (Tychus in melee range lol) arrows. Chen is 100% broken right now.

Edit: Update: I'm sorry to say I just saw another Chen. The infestation is spreading. We did have 5 counters to him even though it was quick match and we stomped the shit out of him, but only because he let us since he's so OP. Thanks good guy Chen.

so... who at blizzard really thought hanzo needed these buffs?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 06:48 AM PST

Seriously, incredibly frustrating, he now feels like he can jump 1/2 across the map, stays out of range of everything and has one of the best engages in the entire game incredibly range and mobility.

I'm sure I'll be told l2p or what ever but honestly at this point the only OW heroes i don't mind fighting is zarya and ana because they aren't entirely super frustrating to deal with since they cant 360 noscope you and then run half way across the map.

Edit: I mean I'm honestly all for making his trait feel more responsive but doing that reducing the cd and giving him an armor shred like that is pretry nuts.

My idea would be to only have the armor shred apply to himself or cap it at a lower value. His power spike at lvl 7 is insane and he can chew through any front line which was one of his only weaknesses having enough bulk to block skill shots on squishy team mates.

TIL Forts and Keeps do NOT prioritize the Protector Mech over heroes.

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 12:20 PM PST

Has this always been the case, I know that unless something huge has changed both the Dragon Knight and Garden Terror would be targeted before heroes and after minions.

But I've had several games now where the minion wave was cleared during a teamfight under a fort/keep and had the building target either our healer, or a squishy backliner instead of the protector mech.

Is this an intended change or a bug?

Blizzard Can We Please Get an Update on the Status of Metal for Mac Users?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 04:06 PM PST

A few months ago Blizzard made the decision to only support an out of date Mac render API because they had bugs with Metal. This decision is not a sustainable solution long-term as OpenGL 2.1 runs so much worse than Metal and even other Blizzard games (WoW) have moved away from supporting OpenGL. Can we please get Metal back for Mac or at the very least an expected timeline for how long it will take to get a working version of the game for Mac users? Personally the change from Metal to Open GL has dramatically reduced my graphic settings and performance quality and it feels like this move is only allowed to happen because Mac users are a minority of the player base.

Lore of Gazlowe — Character, Abilities, and Quotes Lore

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST

Hello, everyone!

For this week's Warcraft lore thread I'll be covering everyone's favorite goblin tinker: Gazlowe! Originally planned to be introduced as a supporting character in the canceled Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans, Gazlowe ended up making his first canon appearance as a minor quest giver NPC in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Since then he hasn't had too much of a major presence in Warcraft, his most notable contributions being in the novel The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm, but he ended up receiving a much more significant role in World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, which happened to be developed and come out around the same time that Gazlowe was added to Heroes of the Storm.

While Gazlowe has (in my opinion) some of the funniest voice acting in all of Heroes (props to Travis Willingham), there unfortunately isn't too much to talk about when it comes to his quotes and abilities. Regardless, I'll do my best to cover everything I can.

Also, apologies for the late post today. I really have no excuse other than chronic procrastination and underestimating how long the writeup would take (and maybe also the fact that my internet died unexpectedly on Tuesday, meaning I didn't have quite as much time to work on this thread as I would have liked). Anyhow, enough rambling.

All previous "Lore of" episodes

Orgrimmar and Ratchet

In the months following the Battle for Mount Hyjal, Warchief Thrall and the Orcish Horde returned to the central Barrens of the continent of Kalimdor. Near the Barrens' eastern coast, Thrall established the nation of Durotar and began constructing the city of Orgrimmar to serve as a new home for the Horde; to do this, he contracted the goblin Gazlowe to serve as Chief Engineer and oversee the city's construction. Gazlowe and his teams of miners also dredged out tunnels beneath Orgrimmar in search of underground wells, hoping to secure a water source for the fledgling city, but they accidentally dug straight into a den of subterranean, rat-like humanoids called kobolds which began running rampant across the tunnels.

Around this time, the half-ogre Rexxar arrived at Orgrimmar and began assisting the Horde with various tasks. Gazlowe tasked the newcomer to venture into the tunnels and assist Gazlowe's workers in sealing the tunnels to prevent the kobolds from causing any more damage. Rexxar did as asked and escorted teams of goblin sappers (troops specializing in detonating themselves to damage structures) to the tunnel support beams, which the sappers then blew up in order to collapse the tunnels in on the kobolds. When Rexxar returned, Gazlowe rewarded him for a job well done by giving him a couple of magical items.

Thrall paid Gazlowe and his workers well for their help in Orgrimmar's construction, and after his work with the Horde was completed Gazlowe decided to travel south and establish the port town of Ratchet on the eastern coast of the Barrens. He joined up with the Steamwheedle Cartel, a goblin faction keen on remaining neutral towards both the Horde and their rival faction the Alliance, though Gazlowe continued showing support for the Horde by sending one of his workers, Rezlak, to assist the orcs in Durotar.

At one point, Gazlowe began being plagued by the pirate group known as the Southsea Freebooters, who raided his ships, stole his goods, and even set up camp on Ratchet's doorstep. Frustrated with the goblin Trade Fleets' failure at keeping the seas safe, Gazlowe instead enlisted adventurers (World of Warcraft player characters) to help him get rid of the Freebooters and recover some of his stolen goods (specifically a lens for his observatory and a pair of boots from the renowned leatherworker Drizzlik). He also posted a bounty on the head of Baron Longshore, a captain of the Freebooters.

Gazlowe also had ties to Pozzik, a goblin rocket car enthusiast who led a team of goblin racers as they competed against Fizzle Brassbolts and his team of gnomes (long-standing arch-rivals of the goblins) at a place called the Mirage Raceway, located on the dry flats in the Thousand Needles region in the far south of Kalimdor. Gazlowe helped track down parts from all over the world for Pozzik's team, and at one point even traveled down to the Mirage Raceway to work on one of Pozzik's team's rigs. Pozzik once asked adventurers to speak with Gazlowe regarding a prototype fuel regulator, which Gazlowe had promised to deliver to Pozzik but which hadn't yet arrived. As it turned out, Gazlowe had yet to receive the regulator from Baron Revilgaz, leader of the goblin port of Booty Bay, a frequent trading partner with Ratchet located on the other side of the Great Sea. Eventually, adventurers managed to obtain the part and deliver it to Pozzik.

The Shattering and Aftermath

Some time prior to the worldwide disaster known as the Cataclysm, Orgrimmar was heavily damaged by rampant fire elementals, and the city was in dire need of repairs. After being approached by Thrall, Gazlowe agreed to help rebuild the city that he had once helped construct, though only at a tremendous price.

Shortly afterward, Cairne Bloodhoof, the aged and beloved High Chieftain of the tauren race, was killed in a duel with Garrosh Hellscream thanks to the manipulations of the traitorous tauren crone Magatha Grimtotem, who had long conspired against Cairne. Magatha and her Grimtotem tribe quickly seized control of the tauren capital city, Thunder Bluff, though Cairne's son and rightful heir Baine Bloodhoof managed to escape along with a Grimtotem defector named Jevan "Stormsong" Grimtotem. After Baine was provided with untraceable gold from the Alliance city of Theramore by its ruler, Lady Jaina Proudmoore, Stormsong traveled to Ratchet to seek the aid of Gazlowe. In exchange for the Theramore gold, Gazlowe agreed to provide Baine with mercenaries, explosives, and zeppelins in order to help him retake Thunder Bluff, and in a move highly uncharacteristic for a goblin, Gazlowe offered his aid at a discount out of respect for Baine and his father Cairne, whom Gazlowe claimed to have always been fond of. In the end, Baine was able to reclaim the tauren capital, exile Magatha and her Grimtotem, and take his rightful place as High Chieftain. Some time later, Gazlowe gave Thrall and his mate Aggra a ship they could use to travel to the Maelstrom out in the Great Sea; Thrall named the vessel Draka's Fury after his late mother.

Following the Cataclysm, Gazlowe faced trouble from the Alliance force known as the Northwatch Expeditionary Unit, whose rear admiral, Hartley, started seizing Horde vessels around Ratchet with the intent of depriving the Horde the use of a neutral port. While Gazlowe normally maintained a neutral stance and was otherwise happy to accept Alliance coin, he could not stand for "some fat-fingered human" cutting into his profits and thus sent Horde adventurers to retrieve the schematics to Hartley's flagship, The Bellipotent, from the admiral's drunken chief engineer at the Ratchet inn. He then tasked the adventurer with planting a limpet mine on the underside of The Bellipotent; the hero did as asked, but the mine proved ineffective as Hartley had moved his munitions ashore in anticipation of such a sabotage attempt. In response, Gazlowe told the adventurer to destroy the Northwatch munitions stockpiles along the shore, leaving Hartley landlocked and unarmed while his ship was repaired. The adventurer returned to Gazlowe, who praised them for their work and was confident that the Alliance would not be able to trace the adventurer's actions back to him.

Gazlowe also sent adventurers to track down old Baron Longshore, who had raided and buried some of the Gazlowe's most valuable cargo before he was captured by the Northwatch fleet. After Longshore was freed from his imprisonment, he revealed that he had tattooed the map to his buried treasure on the scalp of his first mate, who was later decapitated by the Alliance. Adventurers retrieved the first mate's severed head and brought it back to Gazlowe before heading up to the southern bluffs overlooking Ratchet, where the treasure was buried. Longshore suddenly appeared to attack the adventurer when they tried to retrieve the treasure chest, but the adventurer killed the double-crossing pirate and brought Gazlowe's goods back to their rightful owner. The adventurer was then sent north to the outpost of a goblin named Nozzlepot, who had secured a 10% cut of Gazlowe's treasure and subsequently continued sending the hero on further adventurers.

Frostwall

Years later, the Alliance and Horde ventured into an alternate past version of the planet Draenor to combat the Iron Horde, a vast army of orcs created and equipped with advanced machinery through the manipulations of a time-traveling Garrosh Hellscream. The former warchief Thrall and the forces of the Horde journeyed to icy Frostfire Ridge to ally with the Frostwolf orcs, who had refused to join the Iron Horde, and establish a base at a place called Frostwall. The human archmage Khadgar (who worked with both the Alliance and Horde) opened up a portal to Orgrimmar to summon reinforcements, among whom were Gazlowe, who was entrusted to be the foreman of the Horde base due to his past experience in overseeing Orgrimmar's creation. Gazlowe guided the adventurer in completing the construction of a garrison by directing them to clear out the nearby gronn (monstrous one-eyed giant) and its offspring, organize the orc peons, and gather a number of raw materials. Throughout most of the campaign on Draenor, Gazlowe remained in the Frostwall garrison, assisting the adventurer in upgrading and expanding their stronghold with new buildings and eventually by upgrading the entire garrison into a proper fortress.

Gazlowe took more of an active role when the Horde progressed into the forest region of Talador, and was sent to accompany and advise the Frostwolf chieftain Durotan and his mate Draka (the alternate past versions of Thrall's parents) against the Iron Horde. Gazlowe tasked Horde adventurers with deploying his "solution" (a walking crawler mine) against several nearby Iron Horde structures, and also stated that he had heard rumors of a new prototype shredder (a type of goblin machine made to harvest vast amounts of lumber) being developed by the Iron Horde's engineers. Adventurers eventually managed to steal this so-called "Iron Shredder" and the pages to its manual, allowing Gazlowe to repair it and allowing the adventurer to use the contraption to devastating effect against the Iron Horde troops stationed at the nearby town of Tuurem (including the Iron Shredder's original creator, Ketya Shrediron). Gazlowe later accompanied the Horde forces for the final battle against the Iron Horde at Shattrath City, where he worked with his old friendly rival, a dwarf named Thaelin Darkanvil, to secure an Iron Star (a type of rolling weapon of mass destruction used by the Iron Horde) and make it fully operational, allowing the Horde adventurer to use it to wreak havoc on the Iron Horde troops in the city.

After the battles in Talador, Gazlowe returned to Frostwall. Much later, it was discovered that the Iron Horde had constructed some kind of war machine to break through the collapsed Thunder Pass blocking entry into Frostfire Ridge. Gazlowe agreed to investigate (though only after being paid a little extra; his original contract only covered garrison construction) and traveled with the Horde adventurer to discover that the machine was a giant drill known as the Iron Stonegrinder. Gazlowe sabotaged the drill while the adventurer dealt with the Iron Horde forces, but the goblin noticed that the drill's drive system was unusually advanced and strangely familiar. Gazlowe accompanied the adventurer in inspecting siege parts scattered around the nearby Iron Horde base and discovered that they had the signature of his old rival, Thaelin Darkanvil. Certain that Thaelin wouldn't "sell out" and determined not to let the Iron Horde get access to the dwarf's work, Gazlowe convinced the Horde adventurer to rescue the dwarf from where he was being held captive by the Iron Horde. With their mission complete, Gazlowe and the adventurer could return to Frostwall, but the goblin was also intent on claiming a bounty placed by the Alliance spy agency, the SI:7, on the head of an orc overseer named Overlord Blackhammer. After killing Blackhammer, Gazlowe and the hero returned to Frostwall by means of flying mechanical rocket chicken.

After continuing to assist in the war against the Iron Horde until the orc army was finally defeated, Gazlowe returned home to Ratchet, which he later helped defend when the demonic Burning Legion invaded the Barrens and several other locations around Azeroth.

Abilities

Gazlowe in Heroes of the Storm is based on the Goblin Tinker, a neutral hero unit in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The Tinker was originally announced by Blizzard as a 2004 April Fool's joke, but following fan requests it was added to the game as a real unit in patch 1.15 (May 11th 2004). The Tinker is one of only three hero units, along with the Firelord and Goblin Alchemist, that never appear in any of the official WC3 campaigns, since they were all added to the game at various points after the launch of The Frozen Throne.

The official WC3 site refers to the Tinker's mechanical equipment as a "Claw-Pack/Hammer-Tank combo", but the pack worn by Gazlowe seems to instead be referred to as "Tinkerton", judging by by the Paper Bag Tinkerton portrait and spray available during Hallow's End in Heroes of the Storm.

  • D: Salvager - This ability's icon is a modified version of the Icon of Kezan, the goblin racial crest.

  • R1: Robo-Goblin - Robo-Goblin is the ultimate ability for the Tinker in WC3. In that game, it transforms the Tinker into a powerful armored form, giving him increased Strength (health and health regeneration) and armor (reducing damage taken) and as well as granting him Demolish, a passive ability that causes attacks to do up to three and a half times normal damage to buildings. It also causes the Tinker to be considered a mechanical unit, making him immune to most spells and able to regain health by being repaired by worker units. Unlike the Heroes of the Storm version of Robo-Goblin, which merely gives the arms of Gazlowe's Tinkerton sawblades or spikes (depending on the skin) as well as some other bells and whistles, WC3's Robo-Goblin completely changes the Tinker's appearance and looks more akin to an armored tank. The WC3 Tinker can also quickly switch in and out of Robo-Goblin form at will, though it costs mana to do so every time.

  • R2: Grav-O-Bomb 3000 - This ability doesn't seem to be directly pulled from anything from previous Warcraft material, but is similar to Gravity Bomb, an ability used by the XT-002 Deconstructor boss in the Ulduar raid in Wrath of the Lich King and which spawns a gravity well at a player's location, pulling players in and dealing damage to them. On hard mode, Gravity Bomb also creates a Void Zone that deals damage to players standing in it.

Talents
  • Level 4: Hired Goons - More influential goblins frequently hire thugs and bodyguards to protect them. In particular, they often use hobgoblins — goblins transformed into large, dimwitted brutes by means of alchemy, and which are often referred to simply as "brutes", "oafs", or "mooks".

  • Level 13: EZ-PZ Dimensional Ripper - Dimensional Rippers are devices that can be created by players with the Engineering profession (specifically the Goblin Engineering discipline) in World of Warcraft. There are two versions, Dimensional Ripper - Everlook and Dimensional Ripper - Area 52, which teleport the user to the goblin towns of Everlook in the zone of Winterspring and Area 52 in the zone of Netherstorm, respectively; just like many other Engineering-created devices, however, the Dimensional Rippers will often malfunction, causing one of a number of other strange effects, such as dropping the player high above ground or temporarily transforming them into a different playable race.

  • Level 20: Firin' Mah Lazors - Reference to the internet meme "I'M A' FIRIN' MAH LAZER".

Poke quotes

Warcraft III Goblin Tinker quotes

Hey, time is money, friend, and you're outta both. - "Time is money, friend" is a memorable quote spoken by generic goblin NPCs in World of Warcraft.

Wazzup? - Appears to be a reference to a well-known 1999 Budweiser commercial.

Let's show 'em what you're made of - thorium! - Thorium is a powerful Azerothian metal that is used for a variety of purposes and is named after the real-world radioactive metal of the same name.

You ever dance with the devil in the pale moon's light? ...Well, have ya? - References a famous quote by the Joker in the 1989 film Batman.

This thing's a miracle of goblin engineering! / [whirring noise, followed by the sound of a machine part snapping off and flying into the distance] Oh snap! Uh, 'ey, buddy, did you see where that went? / [more breaking noises] Oh, great. There goes Binky. - Goblin inventions are known for being unstable and crudely constructed, particularly since goblins tend to have a fascination for explosions. This series of quotes also appears to be a callback to some of the WC3 Tinker's poke quotes.

[singing over tinkering noises] The samophlange is connected to the gizmo, and the gizmo's connected to the dealybob, and the dealybob's-- [loud crash] GAH! Uh, no longer connected to the thingamajig... - This quote is sung to a similar tune as the early 1900s song "Dem Bones", which has similar "X is connected to the Y / Y is connected to the Z"-type lyrics. (Thanks to /u/Subsourian for pointing this out.) The samophlange is a powerful goblin-made engineering component (though no one seems to know what it actually does) that is frequently referenced as a running gag in World of Warcraft. Its very first appearance in Warcraft was in the canceled game Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans when Thrall meets Gazlowe for the first time and almost steps on a samophlange, much to the annoyance of the goblin, who requires the device in order to repair a broken zeppelin. The samophlange itself originated in an outtakes video for the American 1985 cartoon ThunderCats.

Ah geez, this contraption is so crazy I can clearly see it's nuts! ...and bolts. I said bolts! I SAID BOLTS, ALRIGHT? I'M KEEPING IT T FOR TEEN HERE, PEOPLE! God, you're so filthy! - This quote and its double entendre on the word "nuts" (here meaning either "being nuts", as in crazy, or "nuts", as in testicles) is similar to a WC3 Tinker poke quote: "That guy's nuts! Grab 'm!"

You know what the best part of being boss of Ratchet is? Because I'd love to know. I mean, seriously, it's so boring. - Ratchet is a goblin port town located on the eastern coast of the Northern Barrens. It was founded by and is still run by Gazlowe. Like most World of Warcraft quest giver NPCs, Gazlowe's role in WoW for the most part consists of standing statically in Ratchet and doing absolutely nothing except handing out quests to bypassing players.

Hey, check it out, I added a new feature! Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, annnd start! [whirring mechanical noises] Oh, y-- yeah, that seems bad. - The sequence of commands recited by Gazlowe are a reference to the Konami Code, a cheat code found in many video games from the Japanese company Konami and which has since become rather famous in pop culture.

Always carry an arclight spanner. You never know when you're gonna need it. ...What, there's no joke there, it's just some solid advice, geez. - The Arclight Spanner is a World of Warcraft item in the form of a wrench that is used in the Engineering profession. The majority of items crafted through Engineering require the player to have an Arclight Spanner in their inventory in order for them to be able to create the item.

My mind's on my money and my money's on my mind. - Goblins are known for their greed and their obsession with acquiring profit. This quote is a reference to the 1994 song "Gin and Juice" by the American rapper Snoop Dogg.

Interaction quotes

Gazlowe: "Hey, buddy, how you doin'?" Junkrat: "Great, thanks for asking! Huge fan of your work, by the way." / Junkrat: "This Xplodium stuff is right fantastic, mate! Can't wait to see it in action!" Gazlowe: "This is gonna be a blast!" - Junkrat has an obsession with explosives similar to that of many Warcraft goblins, so it stands to reason that he'd be impressed by Gazlowe and his use of Xplodium Charges.

(To Murky) Gazlowe: "Hey, a murloc! Hey, uh, say the thing!" - Murlocs like Murky are perhaps most associated with their iconic, blood-curdling battlecry, which they utter upon being aggroed by players in World of Warcraft: RwlRwlRwl!

Gazlowe: "Hey, buddy, how you doin'?" Rexxar: "Got lost in Desolace for a few years. Besides that, I can't complain." / Rexxar: "Gazlowe! Are you ready?" Gazlowe: "This is gonna be a blast!" - During the bonus campaign in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Rexxar arrived in Orgrimmar and began helping some of the city's residents with various tasks, including Gazlowe, who tasked Rexxar with aiding against the kobolds that had appeared in the tunnels dredged out by Gazlowe and his workers below Orgrimmar. After the events of TFT, Rexxar took to wandering back and forth between the desert region of Desolace and the jungles of Feralas in western Kalimdor until he later relocated to Outland with the launch of the The Burning Crusade expansion.

(To sapper - NYI) Gazlowe: "Oho, dead man walking!" / "Yeah, yeah, sure, I'll-- I'll be seeing ya AROUND. Heh, you get it? Huh? 'Cause you're gonna EXPLODE? [laughing] Oh-oh man, oh, I kill myself." - Goblin sappers are mischievous and unpredictable goblin troops that specialize in using volatile explosives to blow themselves up in order to inflict major damage to enemy structures. They're found as a Horde unit in Warcraft II, a recruitable neutral unit in Warcraft III, and in various locations in World of Warcraft. In the bonus campaign for The Frozen Throne, Gazlowe tasked Rexxar with escorting teams of sappers to the support columns in the goblin tunnels below Orgrimmar in order to cause the tunnels to collapse in on the rat-like kobolds. When Rexxar returned, Gazlowe was pleased by the sappers' show of "occupational commitment". Interestingly, Gazlowe himself was represented using the model of a Goblin Sapper unit in the campaign, since that was (at the time; remember, this was before the Tinker hero unit was introduced) the only goblin unit in WC3 besides the Zeppelin.

Kill quotes

Sgt. Hammer: "Oh, man... it hurts to bust up somethin' so beautiful!" - As a tinker, it seems that Gazlowe appreciates the highly advanced technology used by the terrans. Terran and goblin technology are also similar in that they oftentimes focus more on explosions and weaponry than user safety.

Uther: "Hahah! Next time, you might wanna Bubble Hearth! Pff, loser." - "Bubble Hearthing" refers to a somewhat infamous paladin technique in World of Warcraft wherein the paladin uses Divine Shield (AKA "bubble"), making themselves invulnerable and making enemies unable to interrupt their spellcasting, followed by using Hearthstone, teleporting the paladin to their home inn and effectively allowing them to safely flee from any threat in the game, much to the frustration of enemy players. Bubble Hearthing was originally made possible by Hearthstone having a cast time of 10 seconds and Divine Shield a duration of 12 seconds, allowing the paladin to finish casting Hearthstone before Divine Shield expired. In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Divine Shield was nerfed to an 8-second duration while Hearthstone remained unchanged, making the Bubble Hearth (in most cases) impossible to pull off, but Mists of Pandaria saw the introduction of the tongue-in-cheek-titled Glyph of Righteous Retreat, which re-introduced Bubble Hearthing by allowing Hearthstone to be cast 50% faster while Divine Shield was active. The functionality of the glyph was later made baseline in Legion. In Heroes of the Storm, Bubble Hearthing is impossible, since Hearthstone's cast time is 6 seconds while Uther's Divine Shield only lasts for 3 seconds.

Killing Gazlowe quotes

The Lost Vikings (Baleog): "Come on, I've smashed fancier robots than that!" - Robots are a recurring enemy in the Lost Vikings games, and some of them look similar to Gazlowe's Tinkerton equipment.

Other quotes

Alright, have a good one. / Hey, uh, be careful out there. (social - goodbye) / Hey, how you doing? / What's up? (social - hello) - Quotes used by generic goblin NPCs in World of Warcraft.

Give 'em the clamps! (attack) - Likely a reference to the American animated TV series Futurama and the character Francis X. Clampazzo (or simply "Clamps"), a robot who is obsessed with the clamps serving as his hands. (Thanks to /u/Omnikron13 for pointing this out.)

I can handle that. / On top of it. (move) - Slight variations of WC3 Tinker move quotes.

It's shredder time! (Robo-Goblin) - May or may not be a reference to shredders, goblin-made machines created to efficiently harvest large amounts of lumber. With most skins, picking Robo-Goblin causes Gazlowe's Tinkerton to gain sawblades at the end of its arms, making it somewhat similar in appearance to a typical goblin shredder.

Yeah, baby. (move) / You are terminated! ...no? - Slight variations of WC3 Tinker attack quotes.

Announcer quotes

It's okay, just run back to your corpse and-- oh! Oh my gosh, it's gone! Guess you have to wait! (player killed) - When a player character dies in World of Warcraft, their ghost enters a spirit world and is transported to the nearest of the many graveyards scattered in numerous locations around WoW. In order to return to life, the player must run back to the location where they died to allow their ghost to rejoin their body and return to life. The player can also choose to talk to spectral beings called Spirit Healers, located at every graveyard, to instantly resurrect on the spot; however, doing so will cause the player's equipment to take durability damage and (most of the time) afflict them with Resurrection Sickness, which decreases all of the player's stats by 75% for up to 10 minutes.

Skins
  • Big Top - This skin's description mentions Gazlowe and Gallywix's Splendiferous Extravaganza, which is also referenced by the Ringmaster Greymane skin. "Gallywix" likely refers to Jastor Gallywix, the infamous trade prince of the Bilgewater Cartel (the Horde-loyal goblin cartel which playable goblins in WoW belong to).

    • Clown Big Top - The name and color scheme of this skin are likely a reference to the DC Comics supervillain the Joker.
  • Chief Engineer (former Master skin) - The appearance of this skin is similar to a piece of unused World of Warcraft: Cataclysm concept art depicting a goblin trade prince (seemingly Gallywix) riding a custom shredder.

    • Fel Iron Chief Engineer - Fel Iron is a type of metal introduced in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade and mainly found in the shattered world of Outland. As its name suggests, it appears to be corrupted by fel (demonic) energy.
  • Mad Martian - This skin depicts Gazlowe as a Martian and an archnemesis of Super Sonya, and is part of a shared theme of skins depicting heroes as either superheroes or as members of the evil Eternal Empire. I'm not sure if Mad Martian Gazlowe is referencing anything in particular, but according to Samwise Didier's original concept art it's based on various 1960s sci-fi tropes.

Next week I'll probably go back to tackling another major character in the form of Tyrande Whisperwind, so see you all for that!

Blaze's talent tree is awesome!

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 05:30 PM PST

As a main tank and long time Terran lover, Blaze was a day 1 buy for me. I love him and his playstyle, but specially, his talent tree is amazing! So much diversity, so much flexibility. It really embodies the way talents are supposed to work by allowing you to react to the enemy team or map. The HotS team did a great job with this hero overall, but I think his talents take the cake! Well done!

7 days till HGC2018 but little info available, why?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 02:49 AM PST

As title says. We got map announcement only. Correct me if I am wrong? Do we get 3rd/4th ban? New cheers? Buying HGC related things from game client? Who is casting? The same crew? HGC web page is kind of dormant. I want to be hyped, but currently it is too quiet. Khaldor spoiled some scrims stats ;). BTW: Love you Khaldor!
