Heroes of the Storm - Can you remove AI games from lifetime win rate? It's misleading.

Can you remove AI games from lifetime win rate? It's misleading.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:36 AM PST

Seeing people with a 70% lifetime win rate only to be a facade of a 40-45% QM / Unranked win rate.

I don't know if the 70% win rate influences matchmaking but it is definitely misleading at first glance and shouldn't be in lifetime statistics or at the very least influence who these players get matched with.

My brother just started playing hots and apparently he thought that you HAVE to rename each replay at the end of a game, pretty cute...

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 02:05 PM PST

https://imgur.com/a/ivDWf

We just found out he has been thinking the game forces you to rename each replay at the end of the game, you know when that "rename replay" button comes up as a suggestion. It wasn't until he said "hang on just gotta rename this game" on discord that we found out, and as the screenshot shows he got self conscious after we couldn't stop laughing at it, and stopped renaming them :( He was kind of relieved though as he said it was starting to become hard to think of original new names for each game.

Anyway thought it was pretty cute to share and I'm sure a lot of people can relate to how confusing everything feels to someone completely new to the game.

masterleague.net is for sale

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:49 AM PST

Dear friends,

We have been working on masterleague.net for the last 1.5 years, rolling out new features and expanding our database. This fall, my (main developer) personal circumstances have changed such that I either had to get a fulltime job and give up working on MasterLeague or try to get some funding from Blizzard to keep me afloat. Unfortunately, the latter didn't work out, as Blizzard is seemingly not interested in supporting fan projects, and the revenue from ads/donations wasn't enough to even cover server costs, etc. I didn't consider trying to increase ad revenue by installing more of lower quality ads or turning to Patreon.

Thanks to selflessness and devotion of our good friend /u/SlapJack1337, so far we were able to keep the website up to date, but my outlook still hasn't changed, and to give the site a new life we would like to part with it.

Spectators, commentators, and analysts currently use MasterLeague as an excellent source of information about matches, players, teams and other stats for competitive Heroes of the Storm games. For analysts, we have even developed custom statistics and summaries. In as far as the completeness of the database and the number of reports are concerned, we are not aware of any other portal that has comparable coverage, even considering the cybersports section of the official HotS website.

We would like to sell the website to someone who is just as passionate about cybersports as we are, and will continue to extend and improve it in the future. We will hand over a working system, source code, social and email accounts, and explain how to administer it in every detail. However, the prospective buyer will have to take over further development (programming) and systems administration.

If you are seriously interested in buying the site, please tell us about you and send your offer to admin@masterleague.net.

Thank you, everybody, for your support and understanding!

Let's take a moment to remember the horrors of the past and be thankful that we dont have to endure them anymore

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:37 AM PST

I know, I know, everything sucks and the balance is crap etc. etc. but let's just take some time to relax knowing we will never have to deal with these things ever again:

1.) A Nova and/or Zeratul with all 'gathering power' stacks

2.) Abathur's lvl 16 locusts outranging buildings (core included!)

3.) Zagara being able to spawn her Nydus everywhere she has vision and proceeding to backdoor you the moment you leave the core

4.) having to play a hero to level 5(?) to unlock the second half of the talents before you reached player level 20

5) Kaelthas' release

I'm sure there are many more, but these are all I can think of now

I think I'm a fairly patient person, but this game is unplayable on the weekends

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 11:44 AM PST

I'm an older guy, I'm dumpster league, I fully acknowledge that, my mechanics are not good, but I have a solid understanding of timings, engagements, positioning, etc.

As a working adult, I really only get to play on the weekends, but when do I get to play on weekdays, it's a totally different game. I just had to tell an Alarak that going in 1v5 also down level 13 to 9 was not a good idea. He actually told the team that was the correct play and flamed the team for not engaging with him. This is just a recent example but this is every, single Saturday and Sunday.

I hate being toxic, I have kids, nieces, nephews...I'm a patient person, but the level of arrogance and absolute height of "ME" attitude that this player base has become is embarrassing.

This game has become unplayable on the weekends. I'm not great, and I expect to paired with other players who aren't great either, people make mistakes, but when you have to have a legitimate 'hots101' type argument is just down right frustrating.

Greetings from /r/leagueoflegends! Here are my favourite HOTS heroes based solely on how cool I think they look!

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:49 PM PST

Greetings /r/HOTS! There was a similar post on the league subreddit about our champs now I'd like to return the favour and hopefully you guys can find a bit of humour out of this too <3 I've also never played HOTS before and this all based on looks and very uninformed.

Here I go:

Sylvanas: Definitely a lot of research material available for her, but she looks strong enough to be a meta hero all day every day. I'm not sure how accurate the hearthstone/wow version of her translates into HOTS but if she can steal characters after she dies like she can in hearthstone, then that seems broken asf.

Raynor: Raynor is the dad friend in your friendship group. No matter where you go, he's always there to support you every step of the way. If you get home too late he'll drive out and to make sure you're safe. He also pays for the netflix account and you always forget to pay him back even though you always say you will.

Kel'Thuzad: When you see a highlight reel of this dude stomping with Kel, but when you try him you get rofl-stomped back. You think to yourself never again. But the next day, you see another highlight reel... it's a perpetual cycle of pain.

E.T.C: Sounds edgy but feels irrelevant.

Nova: Waifu material~ but if you piss her off she can probs one shot you. She seems really strong but only in certain team comps. Does she see a lot of play in competitive?

Greymane: Coolest character design I've seen. He feels like one of those shape-shifters is probably OP. Sleeper OP hopefully. Not sure how the interaction between his wolf thing works tho, might be irrelevant in the game?

Lt. Morales: I feel safe just looking at her. Someone you can rely upon and would not even feel a tickle of damage in teamfights. Is there a banning system? I feel she would get banned pre often.

Murky: Is this the teemo from league? Basically the most annoying hero ever :( has the most annoying abilities.

Varian: Brainless champ, someone to learn the game with but still very strong.

Hanzo and Genji: Everyone loves him but the player who plays hanzo always tilts and loses the game before 10 minutes. Japanese based characters are always so cool tho!! Is HOTS characters similar to OW?

Chromie: She looks like someone who is underrated but actually the few people who play her are insanely good but also insane.

Joanna: People who play Joanna are here for the highlight reels and outplays.

Alexstraza: Hottie but will probs smoke your face off by accident.

D.Va: The character your girlfriend plays.

Probius: Looks like he might shoot lasers and destroy teamfights.

Tracer: tries to outplay but outplays herself.*

Ana: Here for a good time, but when everyone on her team dies, she gets angry and destroys the enemy.

Well there you go guys, here are some of my thoughts on heroes in HOTS! Comment below some heroes and I'll rate if they are strong or not by league standards. Peace <3

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:42 PM PST

first, im korean so very poor at english.

HoTT is event match with big streamers, grand master, and pro gamers (you know, BLX, BLS, KSV)

So this event match is very hot! more than hgc average popularity

And then there is VERY CRITICAL BUGS at stitches

The Stitches ate Zeratul (KSVBlack rich player) from R gorge.

But Stitches don't spit out Zeratul.

ITS BUGS. So zeratul and stitches both died for solution

THIS SCENE IS SAWED BY 2MILLION TWITCH USERS. Before I said, this event match is much popularity more than hgc.

It is very ashamed me. I love Heroes but this game has tooooooooo much bugs.

plz fix it up hurry

this is situation clip.

Why are people able to message you when they are not accepting messages.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:42 PM PST

Not going to get into all the details, but I was getting flamed in a blackhearts game from a premade. At the end they said "bronzies come out on weekends" I said "I am masters, but okay."

Then they proceeded to flame me after the game. I tried to respond to one saying I had a bad game and I kept getting "this player isn't accepting messages"

I reported them, but it sucks to have your night ruined and you can't even chat back the people spamming. I get arguing will only make it worse, but usually you can say "I had a bad game" and people stop, but they continued spamming until I reported and blocked.

If this were the first instance I wouldn't be making a post, and I know I am not alone. If you report someone you can't message them without unblocking, so why can you message people if you're not accepting messages. It should be mutual.

Brand New Player to HotS: Understanding Maps

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:29 PM PST

I started playing Heroes of the Storm around 7 days ago when brought in from league by some friends. I wanted to share some of the impressions I have of the game and compare them to what more experienced players think as I'm looking to expand my knowledge of the different maps. Over the past week I've played around 200 games and have maintained a 66% win rate in QM (though surely some of those games are versus AI). Unranked draft and hero league are both somewhat intimidating at the moment as I feel I may not have a good enough understanding of some of the lesser played heroes. Anyway, here are a few of my thoughts on what seem to be outliers in the game for me. I would appreciate any knowledge or opinions you can share on being successful on these maps:

Dragon Knight Shrine - Easily my favorite map in the game. The distance between the two shrines means that rotations have to be well thought out and executed as a team in order to maintain control of the dragon shrine. This leads to great calls and in-game interaction between players that seems to happen naturally. Even if both shrines are lost the game isn't necessarily over as a strong mid lane presence can deny the dragon knight. There have been several games in which my team has lost both shrines, only to have our midlaner(s) make a heroic stand and hold off the enemy team just long enough for our team to respawn and recapture a shrine. The dragon seems fairly balanced as well. It's certainly strong and a great advantage to have, but it never feels like losing the shrine once is the end of the game. There's always time to regroup and come back despite the dragon being an influential objective to secure.

Braxis Zerg Rush - Easily my least favorite map. I feel like the beacon aspect of this map mirrors that of the shrines in the dragon map but fails to really enable a productive environment due to the structure of the passage between the top beacon and the bottom beacon. Sightlines and vision are extremely limited between the two beacons so it's very difficult to make the appropriate call not only as a team but as an individual trying to decide how to approach the opposite beacon. It seems control over the beacons comes down to which team can hide their rotations in a more meaningful way which can lead to teammates sitting just out of vision, missing lane experience, and hoping for a pick to secure the second beacon. It's hard to even get mad at a teammate who does this because the beacons are so much more important on this map than any other objective on any other map that it feels as though you really do HAVE to secure them no matter what. The zerg wave pushes so hard that I honestly think it's impossible to lose if you ever secure the beacons twice. It seems like games on this map snowball out of control once the first wave is out. It's almost not fun.

Blackheart's Booty - Not the worst map in the game but definitely a map I'm not fond of. The interaction between the top two lanes and the bottom lane seems minimal at best. This could be because I'm still a noob and I don't know how to incentivize the bot lane to ever go anywhere that isn't bot, but it feels as though they get to play their own seperate game down there until it comes time to turn in. When that time comes however, is when I think this map truly starts to fall apart. Because of the small alley that blackheart inhabits, any team with a high amount of aoe damage seems to absolutely destroy there. The gold system is also very disheartening. You don't need a lot of gold to have blackheart shoot the cannons so every one that you lose from a death feels huge. I know there have been times where I've died with 10 or more coins and it feels like there's no way you can ever come back from it as your one death has just given up a free cannon barrage. On top of that the cannon barrage is so strong that it feels as if being in lane and getting xp or trying to push down enemy lanes is worthless in comparison to clearing the camps and taking their gold. Clearing 5 camps and turning in is the equivalent of pushing down two fort towers, a gate, and a fort and a couple more cannon shots somewhere else. I feel like the primary objective on this map is far too strong and the fact that it has no counter play once you've secured it makes it even worse. With Garden Terrors you can rotate well to trade a tower, with Spider Tomb you can roam as a five man and clean up two lanes before confronting the enemy team at the last spider, with Dragon Knight you can have a solo laner counter push while you slowly (and intentionally) lose a 4v5 without dying, but once the other team has turned their gold into blackheart there is nothing you can do but sit and watch him kill all your buildings. It just feels bad.

I'd be willing to go into what I think of the other maps in a later post but I'm really just looking for insight into these three. I feel I struggle on the latter two more from a lack of understanding counter play than anything else. On top of that if there's any advice you can give to make dragon knight games even more enjoyable than they already are that'd be great too.

Game really needs roles/class system re-disgned, people on TL, HL still don't know how to make a team

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:37 PM PST

It's kinda sad, that people above lv 500 doesnt know what a solo laner is, not even what a mage is, what is magic damage and physical, armor, basic stuff.

Some still play Zul'jin and Valla marksman build against Arthas and Johanna, this doesnt let the game meta evolve and stabilize.

The game could use maybe, the same indicator that in Overwatch, those messages telling you 'too much snipers' 'no healers', etc. And what if during draft we could place a token representing our heroes on which lanes we were going to take once the match starts.

Summary of all Quick Match matchmaking rules

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:39 AM PST

Hello!

These are all the Quick Match matchmaking rules that have been applied so far.

Rules from MATCHMAKING DESIGN IN HEROES OF THE STORM - AUG 8, 2014:
- No more than 3 Warriors [ed. usually Tanks and Bruisers].
- No more than 4 Assassins.
- No more than 2 Support [ed. usually Healers and Support, with some exceptions like Zarya, Medivh and Abathur into Support].
- No more than 2 Specialists.
- No more than 3 Melee [ed. Tanks, Bruiser or Assassins that are also Melee].
- If you're in a full party, the rules no longer apply to your team and you can use any composition you like.
- If you're in a partial party, you can still create team compositions that fall outside of the matchmaking rules (eg. A three person party that enters the queue as three Support Heroes is allowed. The matchmaker will do its best to round out your team, but your party will not be grouped with any more Supports.).
- Getting into a game quickly can often times be more important than waiting a long time for the perfect composition. So, if a party has spent six minutes or more in the matchmaking queue, the rules may be broken in order to find a match. We'll be keeping an eye on this rule to get a feel for how it impacts matchmaking, and may make adjustments to it in the future.

Rules from CONVERSATIONS AROUND THE COMMUNITY: MATCHMAKING – APR 3, 2015:
- A zero Support [ed. Healer and Support] team will always match versus a zero Support team.
- This rule will not affect a premade party of five members.

Rules from NEW QUICK MATCH PARTY SIZE RULE – JAN 14, 2016:
- Solo players cannot be matched against four or five-player parties.
- Duo players cannot be matched against five-player parties.
- Three-player parties can match against any party size.
- This rule [ed. groups of two players] is based on the largest party size on each team, so it IS still possible that 2 and 3-player parties (or 4+1 solo) will be matched together against a full party.
- It is important to note that the matchmaker will still prioritize match quality over party size, and may pull in parties outside of these ranges if the resulting game is the most suitable match available.

Rules from NEW QUICK MATCH TEAM COMPOSITION RULE - FEB 24, 2016:
- From now on, it will be very unlikely that you will encounter more than one of the following heroes [ed. Low Presence] on the same Quick Match team: Abathur, Cho'gall, Lt. Morales, Murky, Nova, The Lost Vikings.
- If you are matched against a team that has two of the above heroes in their composition, your team may also receive two of the listed heroes.
- Auto-Select does not yet abide by the new restriction. This means that if you have one of the above heroes and an Auto-Select on your team, the Auto-Select may also become one of the listed heroes. Auto-Select support for today's new Quick Match restriction will arrive with a future patch [ed. not live yet, as far as we know].

Rules from QUICK MATCH TEAM COMPOSITION UPDATES — MAR 14, 2017:
- We're limiting the number of Stealth characters you can have on a team to 1. This includes Nova, Samuro, Valeera, and Zeratul.
- We're splitting out Tassadar and Tyrande from the rest of the "Healer" support pool. They're going into a category with Medivh, Zarya, and Abathur as heroes that provide "sustain" to a team, without being a typical solo-support.
- These roles [ed. Support, not Healer] will be mirrored in games where they are the only "sustain" Heroes, but can also be placed onto teams with healers.
- All existing Warrior Heroes will be considered Tanks, with the exceptions of Sonya [ed. classified as Bruiser in this update, like Artanis and some other Warriors in a future update] and Zarya [ed. classified as Support, together with Tassadar, Tyrande, Medivh and Abathur]. Varian will also be considered a Bruiser, even though he is not part of the Warrior class.
- Please keep in mind that you may still rarely encounter games that do not fit these new rules if queue times are exceptionally long.

Rules from HEROES OF THE STORM PATCH NOTES — AUG 8, 2017:
- Quick Match will now prefer not to make mirror matches, the same hero on both teams, when other options are available.

Rules from BLIZZARD COMMENT ON NEW QUICK MATCH RULES — JAN 9, 2018:
- Xul and Alarak were moved out of the Bruiser class, into Siege and Burst Damage, respectively.
- Several of the normal off-tank heroes in the current meta, like Artanis, were moved from Tank to Bruiser [ed. in the same category as Sonya].
- Tanks are required to mirror, and Bruisers will mirror if there are no Tanks.

Did I miss anything?

Level 100 Shimada

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 01:08 PM PST

...Brothers.

I picked up Hanzo on Day 1 and have played him ever since. At some point it became a quest to level the Shimada brothers to 100. Genji was my old main which helped a bit on the experience grind. I love Hanzo's versatility and the different talent builds that can adapt to almost any map and team comps.

Can we have MMR loss reduction when we have a leaver?

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:43 PM PST

I don't understand why I lose 200 when its completely out of my control that he gets dropped. MMR and your rank is suppose to be a representation of your skill level. My skill level doesn't have any correlation with my teammates 56k modem internet connection but yet his drop directly impacts my rank.
