GW2Efficiency now has unlock statistics!

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 10:28 AM PST

Million thanks to /u/queicherius for implementing this feature, now we can check out what % of the site's userbase has unlocked specific achievements/skins/titles/etc.

Clicky!

What strikes me as suprising at the first glance, is that only 3% of the registered accounts got the all-zones achievement of the most recent current events (Zone Defense). It means that the vast majority of users on the site are inactive and/or don't do PvE at all?

Some of the bounties feel ridiculous, bugged, or are simply unbeatable with certain instabilities

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 10:49 AM PST

So, in general I'm pretty happy with bounties. My guild and I have replaced our weekly Guild Missions with them, since GMs have gotten quite stale (a rant for another day).

However, there are some bounties that feel overtuned, have unfair-feeling mechanics, or don't play well with some of the instabilities.

For bounties being overtuned - it is of course important to recognize that scaling affects this majorly. A group of 7 people can often kill a bounty with much less trouble than a group of 35. That seems wrong to me, but in any case I wanted to address that. A bounty like Suneh Stormbringer is a great example of this. I am unsure whether it summons adds or they spawn naturally, but having to fight a horde of Jacaranda is incredibly difficult. Their damage, healing, and CC makes the fight feel annoyingly frustrating by itself. Add to that the fact that you often cannot rally off of the adds (at least, this is the case with bounties like Ignis), and on top of that, the instabilities? And you have a 10-minute slog on your hands. In the video I linked, a lot of us simply gave up because it wasn't worth it.

Unfair/buggy mechanics are another major issue. When fighting Ignis last night, my guildies and I found that his fissures were spawning in the terrain, making them obstructed to all ranged attacks. Additionally, Ignis himself is immune to burning. Considering that classes like the Firebrand and Berserker are tuned to essentially deal only that single condition, that makes them all but useless in this fight. In my opinion, any mechanic that renders an entire class useless is unfair. This also goes for bounties like Diwaana the Junundu, who reflects ranged attackers. but blinds melee attackers.

Finally, there's the RNG element of instabilities. I'm not against the instabilities in the slightest, but I feel like there are some combinations that should be coded not to happen, and some that should not appear for certain bosses. Exploiter (you need to enter boss's bubble to gain the ability to do damage) is the most common offender when it comes to combinations, because so many of the other mechanics involve PBAoE beneath the boss. The Ley-Build Up one is another frustrating instability when combined with Exploiter and/or Phase Shifted.

The matter of instabilities not working with certain bosses is most applicable for bounties like Silkears, Diwaana, or Ignis (although there are many more!). Silkears is a Jackalope bounty that spends the entire fight running across the snowy hillsides, infinitely faster than the in-combat players desperately trying to catch it. Add to that an instability like Phase-Shifted or Signaler, and you might as well just give up and wait the ~30 minutes for the bounty to appear at the board again. Diwaana and Ignis are also frustrating when paired with instabilites like Survivor, which decreases the amount of time they can be hit even further (both have TONS of evades/blocks naturally). The Jacaranda bounties with additional healing instabilities are another example of a bad combination.

To sum up, while I think bounties are a good addition to GW2, I feel like they need to be rebalanced a little in some cases. I'm sure you guys have more examples of bad instability combinations, or mechanics that feel buggy/bad.

tl;dr: bounties are great, except when RNG makes them bad or when they scale poorly or when they have mechanics that exclude certain classes/playstyles

Green training in Dhuum

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 01:36 PM PST

I don't know if anyone posted this before, feel free to link their post if so.

You can actually stealth the first reaper (left of the throne) after starting the Dhuum fight (or the pre-event rather). Hitting him with a stealth skill will have him stealth for 15seconds. That way you can grab the first green without having any reaper die beforehand. The way I did it was as a thief taking the stealth duration increase trait and stealthing when stealing and just equipping as many stealth skills as possible (Hide in shadows, smoke screen+sb, blinding powder, sr). Start the fight cast your steal on a spiderling then use hide in shadows and run to the spawn of the first reaper and use sm+sb. That alone should stealth you and the reaper till 9:30 before going up cast sr under the second reaper right from the throne.

That way you can all alone practice getting those orbs consistently.

Suspended for 252 hours for receiving gifts i won from a stream raffle....

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 04:38 PM PST

I dont know if GW2 even looks at these anymore but what the heck. So told i got my dawn in the gift for this twitch streamer i have been watching for a little bit now. (won yesterday). iI got it in the mail today. then bam suspended. Says at first i was suspend for bad behavior but when i tried to log on it say i was suspended for RMT. Which im to poor to do that lol. i was in the middle for farming a legenday/ pvping. But what caught my eye was this in the email they sent me. And i will copy and paste it here. "If you made a purchase with real funds we suggest contacting the seller or your financial institution for a refund. Continued purchasing from such sellers will result in further suspensions and/or account termination." Now my question is the IF part. well if they know i did this why would it say if? SO if GW2 or ANET does look at this please look my account over i can get in contact with the streamer if i have to so this can be all verified. please and Thank you

Hello everybody,

About three years ago I made an easy to use site which lets you design your own Guild Wars 2 tooltips and after a lot of requests to include some of the HoT icons I've just added over 1100 new icons to it!

Guild Wars 2 Boss Design has been off-the-charts.

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 01:03 PM PST

After playing PoF and Daybreak, I'm just so happy how FUN the boss fights have been.

Don't get me wrong, there are some issues with GW2, like story missions being IMPOSSIBLE to fail (you just respawn with the bosses HP not even partially reset?), but the actually feeling of doing a boss "right" is fun.

The simple motion of having to dodge crazy AoE attacks just feels good with GW2's combat system.

Good job ANET.

Subtle Request: Can we get hard-mode missions where death actually resets you to a Checkpoint? Perhaps for a simple achievement.

THE CRUSADE ACROSS TYRIA:((North America))

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 08:54 AM PST

THE CRUSADE ACROSS TYRIA: World Tour is gathering at.[&BEAAAAA=] 10 am PST/ 11 am MST/ 12 pm CST/ 1 pm EST, 20th Saturday. This event is open to F2P, New, Old Players. WP's, HP's, Poi's, MP's, Vista's, Events. RP friendly! -Brother Drake

Whats the difference between the Pilgrimage and The Crusade? We do different maps, and we concentrate on Events instead. On The Crusade we will try and do every single event in the map at least once. However, we don't worry about getting Poi's and Vista's etc as much. We are next to them we'll get to them. But its not the priority.

Something really needs to be done about PvP before it dies completely

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 01:58 AM PST

there are just so many things frustrating or just plain unfun to play against in PvP. with an entire game mode focused on standing on a node to get points, there are clearly classes that just flat out perform better than others.

classes that exist entirely to be damage sponges that teeter between 5% health and then back up to 95% is about as intuitive as banging your head against a cement wall. firebrands and druids are the main offenders here. with druids having excellent mobility that allows them to disengage and re-engage fights at will, tempting really dumb players into chasing the magic dragon them ad infinitum but never making any headway. firebrands are terrible with the gross amount of healing they can do to both themselves and teammates and prolonging fights for ages. warriors also get an dishonorable mention here. even after the stance duration nerf and needing to hit a target to benefit from full counter's boons, they still have incredible amount of sustains and disengages that is basically gg if you don't have a constant source of boon corrupts, snares, and damage while also not hitting triggering full counter which will almost never happen. it almost never feels fun battling a warrior with how many different things you have to wait out such as all their stances, an 8 second CD full counter, or the myriad of rushes, leaps, jumps, and charges that warriors have access to as well the multiple sources of regen that aid in their survivability.

(good) mesmers are basically warriors 2.0 with the amounts of gap closers they have, but along with that they get a hilariously ludicrous amounts of dodges and evades that are only further augmented by the superior sigil of stamina. along with this they have very dangerous bursts in both direct damage and condition damage variants that overall makes it another game of waiting out their numerous "you can't touch me" mechanics while also being whittled down by their constant pressure. and forget even trying to interrupt a mesmer trying to stomp your teammates. with an almost constant amount of dodges, distortions, and stunbreaks, mirages have one of the safest and basically guaranteed stomps that are very difficult to counter.

then we move onto one of the biggest problem childs of PvP, the scourge. while they can be focused down and broken apart from team support, the amount of area they can control neuters basically anything that uses a melee weapon (and spoiler alert: that's basically 90% of classes and builds). an entire game mode where you have to stand on a node to cap it should not have a class whose class mechanics produce dangerous aoes almost exactly the same radius as the node itself. it is possible to work around the shades themselves, but in which dev's mind was a 4 second, 300 radius, aoe boon corrupt ever a good idea? couple that with at least 4 necromancers per game and you just have a frustrating amount of point control that shits out conditions and can quickly snowball into a win after a few team fights.

something really must be done about PvP soon before people straight up abandon it. a balance patch right in the middle of an already stale meta from last season means nothing new is brought to the table. the rewards are already pretty terrible or nonexistent and at the rate things are going it really seems like support and interest in this game mode is rapidly heading towards the nowhere land that WvW is occupying.

hmmmmm...the return of old friends next ep maybe?

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 04:04 PM PST

Been doing the undead current events and was surprised to find Exemplar Kerida (Livia) and Captain Magnus in Queensdale and Gendarran Fields respectively. Could it be that we might check on each city and probably recruit allies against Joko? This is wishful thinking but I hope we get to see our friends from Personal Story (warband/krewe maybe?), and the other Living World seasons, even if its just text dialogue.

  • Divinity's Reach: Exemplar Kerida, Anise, Swordmaster Faren, Queen Jennah.

  • The Grove: Caithe, Ridhais, Laranthir of the wild, Avatar Pale Tree,.....and Malyck?

  • Black Citadel: Ballista Geargrind, Mangonel Gearstrip, and Smodur the unflinching.

  • Rata Sum: Zojja, Phlunt, and Ninn

  • Hoelbrak: Knut whitebear, Stigfast, and Skarti.

  • Lion's Arch: Captain Magnus, Logan Thackery, Ellen Kiel, Hero-tron, Ogden Stonehealer, and Evon.

I'm a returning player who finally finished my personal story...

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 09:46 AM PST

And holy crap, I love the new crew! Mox, Taimi, Braham, Marjory, and Kasmeer are all really fun to run around with, and I'm disappointed I don't get to play through Living World Season 1.

The personal story had me bummed because it teased this awesome squad with Destiny's Edge, but then breaks them up almost immediately so you can follow a bland salad around for the next 40 missions. I'm just really excited about having fun characters to journey alongside as I'm really in this game for the story. Thanks for reading :D

Thief Elite Specialization Concept - The Shadow Dancer (Off-hand Sword)

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 11:43 AM PST

I'm hoping we go to Cantha with the next expansion.  Here's my take on what a Canthan-inspired elite specialization might look like.  I've given thieves the ability to wield a sword in their off-hand and access to stances.  I tried to bring some new ideas to the table, but I also wanted to bring back some of the flavor from the assassin profession of the original Guild Wars.  Several of the stances were inspired by GW1 skills.  I hope you all enjoy the read.

SHADOW DANCER

New Weapon: Sword (Off-hand).

Damage type: Power and condition-based

Profession Specific Mechanics

The profession revolves around two new mechanics which are summoning shadows and building stacks of a new damage buff called impending doom.  Players gain stacks of impending doom through damage avoidance/skillful play.  Once they reach the maximum number of stacks they will summon a shadow that unleashes a devastating attack, at which point the stack counter will reset.

A shadow is a sort of clone that last for 5 seconds and does 10% of your damage, after 5 seconds (or when they are struck) they disappear into a plume of smoke that causes blindness. You can have a total of 2 shadows out at any one time.

IMPENDING DOOM: Gain 1 stack each time you avoid taking damage (block, evade, miss).  There is a 1 second internal cooldown for gaining stacks.  Each stack lasts for 20 seconds and grants 3% increased damage.  Getting hit will remove 1 stack. Reaching the maximum number of stacks (5) will spawn a shadow and instantly reset the stack counter to zero (which means the max dps buff is actually 12%).  The shadow that is spawned will perform the FATAL WIND (sword skill 5) attack on your opponent. This attack does its full damage, while subsequent attacks from the shadow will do regular (10%) damage.

The thief's steal ability is replaced with SHADOW DANCE.

SHADOW DANCE: Spawn a shadow at your current location, gain stealth, and then shadow step to your opponent.

The thief's dodge animation is replaced with a short range teleport/blink.  This is mostly for flavor, but there is a trait that enhances this.

Weapon Skills

SWIRLING SWORDS (Dual Wield, Main hand Sword)

Costs 4 initiative - Evade attacks while spinning around and attacking nearby foes. (inflicts bleeding)

DEADLY REPOSTE (Dual Wield, Main hand Dagger)

Costs 4 initiative - Block incoming attacks with your sword.  Counter with a dagger strike upon a successful block.

IMPALING STRIKE (Dual Wield, Main hand Pistol)

Costs 4 initiative - Shoot your foe, then shadow step to them and impale them with your sword.

DISEMBOWEL (Sword 4)

Costs 5 initiative - Dash through your foes and lacerate them with your sword while leaving behind a shadow at your starting position. (inflicts bleeding)

FATAL WIND (Sword 5)

Costs 8 initiative - Evade attacks and teleport 5 times in quick succession to random locations around your foes, slicing them each time you re-appear and dealing massive damage. (inflicts bleeding)

Utility Skills (Stances)

DARK ESCAPE (Heal)

Heal yourself. You gain super speed and have a 75% chance to block attacks while in this stance.

WAY OF THE SHADOW

Gain endurance upon entering this stance. While in this stance, your endurance recovery is improved (50%) and you spawn a shadow whenever you evade an attack.

WAY OF THE UNBALANCED SCALE

Gain resistance upon entering this stance. While in this stance your skills recharge faster and you pulse chill to adjacent foes.

WAY OF THE EMPTY PALM

While in this stance your weapon skills cost no initiative the first time they are used.

WAY OF THE ASSASSIN

While in this stance, striking a foe inflicts torment and grants you might.

UNSEEN FURY (Elite)

Pulse weakness and blindness to adjacent foes while in this stance. Your attacks cannot be blocked by blinded foes.

Minor Adept Trait

You can wield a sword in your off-hand.  Steal is replaced with shadow dance.  Gain access to stances.  Your dodge is replaced with a short range teleport/blink.

Major Adept Traits

IMMINENT DOOM

The maximum stack count for impending doom is reduced to 3.

BAMF

Leave behind a cloud of smoke to blind your foes before and after you dodge.

LINGERING SHADOWS

Your shadows last for 2 more seconds and leave behind a poison cloud then they are killed.

Minor Master Trait

BLIND CONTEMPT

You deal more damage to blind foes.

Major Master Traits

DEATH, DOOM, AND DESTRUCTION

Impending doom grants an additional 2% damage per stack.

GRIEVOUS WOUNDS

Increased bleeding duration.  Bleeding does increased damage.  Sword and dagger skills apply bleeding stacks.

AMBUSH TACTICS

Spawn a shadow whenever you exit stealth or are revealed.

Major Grandmaster Trait

GREATNESS ACHIEVED

Gain boons upon reaching maximum impending doom stacks. (Duration scales with the number of maximum stacks)

Major Grandmaster Traits

THIEVES GUILD MASTER

Nearby allies gain 50% of the passive effect of impending doom.

FRENZIED STANCES

Entering a stance grants you might, fury, and quickness.

STURDIER STANCES

Entering a stance grants you vigor, protection, and reduces incoming condition damage.

Characters "teleporting / lagging" around the maps randomly.

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 06:41 PM PST

Me and a few others friends and guldies recently had been seeing this kind of "teleporting" effect almost on every map.

We confirmed we see eachother all moving weirdly like that since the last 2-3 days if i recall correctly.

Sometimes they even stand on the same place for a 10 / 20 seconds, and then all of sudden they are on the other side of the zone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IJBVFZ0xno

We checked for latency issues, ping is usually around 40-60MS and we have no addons, EU servers here and all from same country.

I do feel bad for people who do PvP if it's like that.

Man, imagine how cool it would be if the next elite spec for mesmer was a DPS spec based around pistol trickshots.

Posted: 20 Jan 2018 06:28 PM PST

Like, basically Hol Horse from jojo's bizarre adventure, except with more than just the ability to control the bullets fired out of his magic bullshit cannon.

Dude had control over his bullets and could do crazy trickshots like having them change direction after he shot them.

Just like, imagine it for a sec, mesmers with dual pistols, firing off volleys of bullets bouncing off ethereal mirrors, having rounds go through portals, all kinds of crazy, magic gunslinger bullshit.
