[META] I think we ought to enforce some clarification rules when it comes to titles and false info. Posted: 13 Jan 2018 02:11 PM PST Over the last 48 hours there's been a slew of threads pop up on the sub reddit that are essentially the definition of straight up click bait and misinformation. We've had 2 dark souls threads that have literally cherry picked words from articles or tweets. The first being one that is currently up which is about dark souls remastered having no new assets. The tweet says Dark Souls Remastered will not include new assets based on the Dark Souls 3 engine or any combat differences. This clearly states that there will be no differences in combat or any assets from the dark souls 3 engine. The game is still being clearly visually revamped as visible in the announcement trailer and is clearly going to include new assets so that the game can actually function better in its upgraded format. The other thread is the one about the game being priced without a discount when someone actually reads the article its clear that the person being asked about a discount doesn't fully understand the question and this is being assumed without no actual costs being viewable as of yet. I get that for some reason people value imaginary internet points as being something but i feel as if the sub reddit needs to come down a bit harder on these sorts of threads. I'm so tired of seeing cherry picking titles that are used purely for internet points only to see them get labled "false info" about 6 hours later but by then the confusion will have set in. We need better enforcement of clarification and titling rules so people dont end up being confused by misleading headlines, no one wins at the end of the day except for the idiot who wants karma. Pyre is one of the most amazing RPG experiences I've ever had. Posted: 13 Jan 2018 01:20 PM PST This was the first game I've played developed by Supergiant Games, and I'm still blown away a week after finishing it. It's part visual novel, part RPG, and part sport game. Very unique. The visuals are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen in a game and the story and characters are extremely rich. And I can't even begin to describe my love for the soundtrack (all of which is available on YouTube). I know already that Pyre is going to be one of those games that stay with me forever. It's a piece of art. I haven't gotten this invested in a game's characters in a very long time. Fair warning though (and potential minor spoiler?), the game forces you to make emotionally gripping choices by its end, so it's no short on feels either. I hope all of you guys give it a try, especially RPG fans, and support this indie studio which also developed Bastion and Transistor. I haven't played either YET, but I hear they're just as amazing. I love this game so much that I'm going to buy it on PC as well (originally played on PS4) and play it all over again. [link] [comments] |

For those with VR headsets, what would you like to see happen in VR game dev? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:55 PM PST What genres are not being fulfilled to their greatest potential? What genres are being flooded too much? What do you think about full body haptics? Do you think the price of VR is still the main issue for it not going mainstream? Or is it mainstream enough? I personally feel that the genres right now are pretty diverse for the most part, but Wave Shooters are definitely on the top and wish there were fewer and fewer of them coming out. Haptics I think will increase immersion quite a bit, especially so from bHaptics and/or Teslasuit. I also feel that the current price of jumping onboard VR is still too much and limiting for the majority of gamers. Obviously with Oculus GO and a few others coming out they hope to be able to get it out more to the masses. Also the whole tethering to the PC is quite annoying, but with Vive coming out with their Wireless solution and TPCast as well as other All-In-One solutions, maybe we'll get to see wireless be at the front where it always should have been. What do you think of photomodes in games? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 10:41 AM PST It feels like more and more games have photomodes these days. And I think this could warrant some real interesting discussions! Like, how some photomodes can have broader ranges of options regarding the camera. Personally, I think photomodes are mostly put into games to exhibit the graphics of various games, like hi-poly models for certain characters or vehicles. But I think it means a lot more when you can either find a good location yourself, such as in an open-world racing game or Super Mario Odyssey. Or, alternatively, a game features a completely fictional world where it can be really neat taking photos of the environment, like in WipEout HD. It feels like even Pokemon's been getting on the photomode bandwagon, and went from more sparse inclusions like the HG/SS photobooths and the earlier Pokemon Snap, to the new PokeFinder and Alola Photo Cub features. If the camera really does return in a later game, I'd personally prefer to be able to whip it out almost anywhere, since I think there's plenty of neat environments in the games, let alone what could be next. Overall, I think I could mostly do without them, but I can certainly see the appeal in some cases. [link] [comments] |
