Destiny 2 is suffering while The Division seems to be going through a renaissance. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 12:58 AM PST The progression of these 2 games, one at the start of it's lifecycle and one nearing the end has been quite unexpected to me. A year ago I would have told anyone who listened that Bungie learned from D1 and TTK was proof of that. We'll get an even bigger and better Destiny 2 and Bungie will make loads of money proving to investors that keeping players happy isnt as financially detrimental as they think. Instead, Destiny 2 is facing criticism from every angle due to many flawed design decisions and seemingly inept game direction. Limited character customization, intrusive and predatory microtransactions and an underwhelming narrative all point to a rushed development and those are only a few issues. Destiny 3 is going to happen. Whether people will be there for it or not is up to Bungie. As for The Division I am thoroughly impressed by what Massive has done to turn this game around. I'm a nobody, but I've been around since the beta and I know what the game was like at launch. It was a terrible, awful dumpster fire that should've been forgotten about. The engine that was built specifically for the game was riddled with bugs, gear and weapon stats were coded wrong, enemies were bullet sponges to the extreme, the devs didn't listen to their most dedicated fans and pvp was a frustrating distraction that drove players away from an otherwise innovative gameplay experience. That's just a few minor issues I remember. Instead the people at Massive have put their hearts into this game to turn it into a relatively engaging and enjoyable looter shooter experience. The release of update 1.8 has brought me back to the ranks of The Division. The addition of several new game modes help add to the longevity of the game and the new rogue system and gear sets all keep things fresh and add variety. I still hold some contempt for Massive because it feels like we've just been beta testing the concept of The Division and The Division 2 will incorporate everything the developers have learned up until now. I don't even know if there will be a Division 2. We weren't supposed to get most of whats in update 1.8 and now Massive are working on the licensed Avatar video game adaptations. I have no idea what the future of this game will be. I'd like to see a sequel or a continuation of the narrative because it's actually good. I just wanted to type my thoughts out after playing D2 and TD and experiencing first-hand how wildly different the two games have turned out to be. Its 3am and I've had like 3 energy drinks.
