Summary of EE's interview on HotCox about Ohaiyo situation

EE was interviewed on HotCox today primarily about the situation with Ohaiyo. See the VOD here.

Interesting points from the interview:

  • Regarding the situation with Envy and Demon when Envy first joined Fnatic: Even though Demon was originally the one who asked Envy if he wanted to join Fnatic, Demon was never actually part of the team, and he wasn't even one of their top choices for their pos 5.

  • Fnatic had been thinking about replacing Xcalibur and Ohaiyo since October. Apparently this was discussed as a team then including with Ohaiyo.

  • Some of the problems with Ohaiyo were that "there was a period of time where he wasn't trying very hard" and wasn't playing as much Dota as the rest of the team, and that he wasn't adjusting and fixing mistakes over time. Despite this, apparently he was a super positive player and the team still enjoyed playing with him.

  • Fnatic was considering kicking Pie for someone else at one point too, but Envy told them not to because they hadn't given Pie any warning that he wasn't performing well enough and needed to improve unlike the situation with Xcalibur and Ohaiyo.

  • Envy, DJ, and Abed all wanted to replace Ohaiyo after the Summit. They first asked Zai and Moo if they wanted to join Fnatic before Universe became available, but neither wanted to leave their teams.

  • Envy doesn't think anyone outside of Fnatic in SEA knew Universe was coming to their team beforehand (dispelling the rumor that TNC players knew he was being kicked ahead of time).

  • Envy says the biggest thing to blame for the poor timing of Ohaiyo's kick was Valve giving very short notice about the incoming roster lock. This forced them to bring in Universe in the middle of the current set of qualifiers on short notice.

  • The team didn't tell Ohaiyo that he was going to be kicked ahead of time because they couldn't be certain Universe was for sure joining the team until he was there and because they wanted to ensure it didn't hurt Ohaiyo's performance in his remaining games with the team. Envy says it is morally wrong, but as a captain, he feels he owes it to his team to not potentially jeopardize their performance by telling him ahead time.

  • Universe only arrived at Envy's house "0.75" days before they played the finals of the Katowice qualifier and then kicked Ohaiyo. They didn't have him play since he had just arrived and was recovering from the travel.

  • There wasn't really a pizza party, but some people at Fnatic just ordered pizza for a normal dinner after the qualifier finals when Ohaiyo was informed he was kicked. Envy wasn't even there when Ohaiyo was told he was kicked because he was checking on Uni.

  • Apparently Ohaiyo wasn't particuarly upset or anything initially after being kicked, but Envy says that surrounding people riled him up to get more resentful about it.

  • Particuarly, Envy says Mineski's CEO talked to Ohaiyo and stirred things up a bunch on social media about the issue, even to the point that Mushi apologized to Fnatic about what the CEO was doing.

  • Envy and his teammates think that the Lucifer standin for their series with Mineski a few days ago was definitely Ohaiyo based on his play and Ohaiyo's log in/log off pattern around the games.

  • Envy thinks Universe is an impovement over Ohaiyo because of his better communication, bigger hero pool, and better ability to carry games.

  • Envy says it's "too hard not to" care about Reddit/people's opinion on him, but nothings going to change in his life because of people's opinions on him currently.

I am a custom game creator and i cant even join my own game anymore

Hi everyone,

Today my friends and I tried to play our custom game, Battleships, which we have been continually building and balancing for the last three years. Unfortunately, we discovered that there seems to be an unannounced level-based restriction on playing custom games that prevents nearly all of us from joining a lobby.

We don't really play DOTA2 proper, which means we're all low level, but have spent a lot of time improving and debugging a game that now has ~200,000 subs and ~150 weekly players. It's a great way for us to stay in touch as our lives move us around, and hopefully provide a fun game for the community :).

Does anyone know the details of this restriction or how long it might be in place? It appears that this is a response to a problem with bot spam, it's just frustrating to spend so much time making and playing a game only to have it taken away with no information, alternatives, or timelines. Thanks!

tl;dr We can't play our custom game and would like to be able to.

DAC 2018: Open and Closed Qualifiers Details

General tournament information

The Dota 2 Asia Championship will return this year to Shanghai where it will host its 2018 edition between March 30 and April 7. DAC 2018 will see 16 of the best Dota 2 teams around the world fight in a LAN event for a $1.000.000 prize pool and 1500 qualification points for the The International 2018.

6 of the sixteen teams taking part will be invited directly, while the rest will fight for placement in online qualifiers in North and South America, Southeast Asia, China, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
