| I made a demo of how I wish the Infinite Forest worked Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:35 AM PST Hello Guardians, TL;DR: I made an actually-infinite Infinite Forest and you can watch it here: Infinite Forest: What I'd Like A week or so ago I spent some time creating a 'better' Infinite Forest. I spent a couple of days on it, making everything from scratch (the code, the art, etc). I was planning on making a video when I was done, but between Christmas and New Years (Happy 2018 from Australia!), I've been pretty busy, so I never got around to making one. It shows off a line generation method (similar to what the current forest uses) that can generate as much as you'd like (thousands of platforms can be generated per second), along with enemy spawns and a demonstrative boss encounter. It represents a gameplay loop that I'd love to play, and what I was hoping the Infinite Forest would be at the bare minimum. It doesn't address all the possibilities that could be done within the forest (there are plenty of well-crafted ideas and posts on this subreddit alone that do a better job describing than I could), but serves more as a type of proof that it could be done, because one of the excuses I kept seeing made was that they didn't have enough time to make anything bigger than what they did (which I absolutely don't buy). At this point, I don't think Bungie will do much to change what Destiny 2 is, but I hope they do. The Infinite Forest could be so much more than it already is, it's a real shame to see it used in such a shallow, meaningless way. *Edit: Thanks for all the kind words, and the gold! It's 5 in the morning right now, but this has been a great way to start off 2018! I love this community! [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Who remembers SWAT, Big Team Battle, King of the Hill, Gun Games? Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:02 AM PST Bungie could you please let the Crucible grow and blossom before it fades away into the darkness. I understand it may take a little longer to find a match however it will find a match that I didn't just play 3 maybe 5 games in a row of the same type. The ability to vote for match type and map type is vital so we can decide if we want a rematch or something different. Don't force play on us, we enjoy our freedom to play how we want to play. If you don't like these game types then please suggest more. [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:18 AM PST The original tag line from Destiny was "Become Legend." From the moment I saw the artwork and descriptions of the game in Game Informer's reveal, I thought Bungie was going to have another Halo-tier sprawling epic story. There is a self-seriousness to Halo and to D1 that had my complete buy-in. Think about the Crota reveal trailer. Think about the cutscene of the Queen and her Awoken going up against Oryx. Think about how dour Eris Morn was. It made it seem like what happened in the Destiny universe actually mattered. Now compare that to D2. Think of the Ghost's (who now essentially serves as the voice for our characters) lame-ass shit-talking at the end of events, missions, and strikes. Think about the Ghost's exchanges with Asher. Just that alone would have Eris Morn's three bleeding eyeballs roll into the back of her head. I love me some Nathan Fillion, but he was an excellent garnish against D1's serious tone. To lean as hard as they have into Cayde's nihilism, making him the star, that makes me have a hard time caring about the world that they built (and whatever is up with the chicken). Ikora and Zavala spend all of D2 just shaking their heads at Cayde, but don't have much in the way of their own stories to make us see that they care about what happens here either. Nothing matters in D2 because they can't even make their own characters care about what happens. I've said this before, but I wish D2 took itself as seriously as the artwork for each subclass menu looks like it does. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the narrative we see often about appealing to a wider, more casual base, but there is a serious disconnect between the art and the writing as a result, and that sucks. That's what lost me as a customer. I just don't care about the world anymore. [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Stop supporting this game. Tough love required. Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:31 AM PST Lots of people here have grown up loving Bungie games, they've become one of the first things you think of when someone mentions console shooters. From Halo 1 right up to the launch of Destiny 1, nobody could say a bad word about this company, they were so community focused and pro consumer that people identify as Bungie fans rather than Halo or Destiny fans. They are taking advantage of those people. They know that they have a hardcore fan base that will buy everything they do and will convince theirselves that their awful anti consumer stance is ok, it's not. Stop playing this game, make them sweat. It's the only way to snap them out of it. [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Bungie, Exodus Crash needs the Valus treatment Posted: 31 Dec 2017 06:19 AM PST Just finished the strike in 18 mins, that's fine. Issue is that the boss was half of that, and takes longer than some D1 raid bosses take. 10 teleports and a boatload of health make that strike which is otherwise fun completely miserable. I was reminded why I quit that strike when it comes up, and you need to figure out that boss fight. Too many teleports too much health. Pick one or the other. | Why Boss Immunity is Bad Game Design Posted: 31 Dec 2017 10:06 AM PST After playing many heroic strikes for uninspiring Dawning rewards, I finally wanted to write down my thoughts about one of the dumbest features Destiny has when it comes to strike bosses; partial or temporary immunity. Some examples to explain what I'm talking about:
My biggest issue with this tactic is that it's lazy. It's a method of artificially extending a boss fight when they know my fireteam could end the fight in a minute if we were allowed to do constant damage without any breaks. It doesn't challenge you, doesn't make you think or strategize about what to do next. Nearly all the bosses since D1 have used some form of this tactic, but not all of them poorly. One good example is in the Inverted Spire strike. When the Vex boss goes immune and disappears, it's because the entire fight is shifting. The environment changes, the way the boss attacks changes, and the mobs that surround you change. It forces you to change tactics, to fight the boss in different ways. The boss going immune is a sign that you're progressing, not just a time lengthen-er. The same should apply to all the boss fights. Bosses should have unique attacks or features that force you as a player to accomplish something beyond "point at yellow bar and fire". Thaviks going invisible is a great idea. It makes him more deadly and a challenge; why should he also be immune? If a player can find him and hit him, they should be rewarded, and not have to waste time waiting for him to strike so they can shoot him again. Immunity is found in random mobs as well (hobgoblins and their basically pointless shield n' heal tactic comes to mind), but it's obvious that it can be used effectively to create a challenge or make a fight more interesting. We need more Inverted Spires, more Fallen Sabers, more Sunless Cells. Tl;dr: If you're gonna make me fight the same enemy over and over, at least don't make it aggravating. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:34 AM PST The pacing and value of rewards and the economy behind them is all off, and with everything tied to slot machine vendors and the majority of loot behind the Eververse pay wall, powerful and cool gear rarely feels earned in a way that is rewarding. | Posted: 30 Dec 2017 05:14 PM PST So I was checking trials report today after seeing almost every streamer, including my friends, match the same people again and again and oh mah lawrd, it's only just breaking 100k right now. The lowest participation before that was in D1 just before the release of D2 and that was 145k players. You can see the statistics here D1 went through all kinds of special events so blaming the low population on Mayhem entirely is not plausable. Can we finally tell Jon Weisnewski now, with honesty, that Crucible is just not as fun as he thought it would be? | I wrote what Bungie's first 2018 blog post should be Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:35 PM PST The One About Us
We have done a lot of listening. I'm sure there's a master list around here somewhere of all the times "we've heard you" or "we're listening" has come up in our blog or forum posts. The updates around Curse of Osiris were an attempt to put our money where our mouth was, but they missed the mark. The community has been speaking to the heart and soul of Destiny 2; we responded with a glossy new coat of paint.
You're tired of being unheard, so let's talk.
The development team had many goals when building Destiny 2. There are lore junkies, crucible try-hards, people who play any class but Warlock; we have them all in this office, but there was an overarching theme that brought them together. Connection. Everyone was focused on connecting players to each other, to the story, the lore, to their guardians. It was a laser focus that rivaled the days of Prometheus Lens.
It also led us to fail in the ways we did. And yes, we did fail. It led us to forget lessons we learned in Destiny 1, lessons you all taught us. It led us to recreate microtransactions that our community has fairly looked down upon. We continued in our history of creating engaging gun play, but neglected to build a game around it. The following are our responses, our attempts to regain the trust we have broken. Many of these aspects cannot be implemented immediately, but we will be giving time frames as soon as possible.
Fix It Before You Sell It
Our first step is to give ourselves time, time to work and time to respond to more feedback. We are announcing a delay in the second expansion, Gods of Mars. We are expecting the release date to be pushed into the summer months and will update the release window as we progress into 2018. There will be one free event update during this time to help with a sense of drought; though, further details below should also help pass the time beyond ice hockey in the Tower.
Eviction or Renovation
Tess.
Yes, we have heard you, we've listened, and we can respond.
The gaming community as a whole has put a spotlight on loot boxes and microtransactions, a light that helps us look in the mirror. In context of Destiny 1? In context of our own past comments? This may have been our greatest failure. The Destiny 2 idea was to reward players for all of the activities that they played equally. A crucible aficionado could run Trials all weekend and have a chance at obtaining exotic cosmetics the same way a raid sherpa could. Then there was the experience throttling issue that prevented these bright engrams from being doled out as the majority expected.
This system has failed. This system is changing.
As of January 16th, the web team is releasing additional functionality to the Bungie website and Destiny app. There will now be a cosmetic kiosk accessible through both of these locations. You will be able to send sparrows, ships, ghosts, and dance moves to your characters anytime you want. An in-game kiosk will be added at a later date along with additional planned kiosks.
What does this mean? This means these items will change in very fundamental ways. Ghosts and sparrows will have set perks; a complete list of these perks will be released with patch notes on the same day. You all will also be happy to hear that thanks to data logging, these kiosks will include any cosmetic you have dismantled for more room. Unfortunately, that means that cosmetics will no longer dismantle into bright dust.
Does that mean you should dismantle all of the legendary and exotic cosmetics on January 15th for bright dust and have access to them the next day?
Let's just keep that between us.
Additionally, all exotics and legendary cosmetics are being assigned to different game areas. Want Saint-14's Gray Pigeon? Head to Earth where he left it. They will be earned through random chance of planetary engrams or through large token purchasing once you've reached a certain rank with the planetary vendor. Oh, ranks are back. That's there too. In the future, we intend to add unique cosmetics that unlocked via new activities at these locations as well. Also, all season one and season two cosmetics will be released into the wild to give everyone the opportunity to obtain them this way.
So Tess is gone? No; we still feel it is important to allow players options to obtain items. Bright engrams will require more experience to obtain; Tess will continue to have a cycling inventory and bright engrams for sale; it will not be possible to get a duplicate cosmetic already unlocked in the kiosk.
As of now, this is the best solution we can implement in a short time period, but we hope to add further modifications as we hear feedback.
Mayhem
It's staying.
Dodge Ball
It's being fixed, but...
Embrace Chaos
We do not have an estimated release date, but there will be a new rotating crucible playlist with changing rules. Modifiers on the table? Laser tag, dodge ball, guns disabled, higher mobility, jumps disabled... It should be fun and make Mayhem look rather tame.
Best of the Best
Trials will have a new playlist starting January 16th. Once any character has gone flawless during Trials, the entire account will only be able to access To Stare Into Nothing. This is a new Trials playlist that will pit the best of the best against one another and leave room for others learning the competitive style of play. One downside to this, if a player is in To Stare Into Nothing, then they cannot join a fireteam going to the standard Trials and vice versa. Be warned though: We will be implementing much harsher cheating detection and penalties will be some of the most severe we have issued as a company.
The Future
There is so much more we want to say and add. There's lore and plot and writing changes that we need to iron out before we announce them. There's so much work to do that you all deserve and we want to provide. Many of you do not think we deserve another chance, which is more than understandable. We are asking for another; let us prove Bungie is the company you remember. More importantly though? We ask that you give each other more chances; do not let our failings tear apart such an amazing community.
Thank you all.
PS
Faction rally starts January 9th; see you guys in the Winding Cove. Edit: Thank you for the gold. Additionally, the responses have been amazingly night and day, fun experience from posting this, going to bed, and waking up to all of this [link] [comments]
| Exotic Engrams dropping instead of actual exotics makes lots of experiences feel bland. Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:17 AM PST Title. Anyone who played destiny 1 and did their raids frequently remembers it. Beating a raid encounter, and amongst the sea of purple filling the feed, you see a yellow name. Maybe it passed to fast for you to even read it, but it was there. Among all of the "ugh shards again" or complaints about their 70th pair of boots with no chest, someone was a hollering because they got a shiny new toy, whether it be Patience and Time, Thunderlord, Red Death, Plan C, The Last Word, Or the nought sought after Gjallarhorn, Vex Mythoclast and the Crux of Crota, when the yellow splashed on their screen they made some noise. Even if it wasn't happiness in their voice, it was laughter at their millionth Universal Remote, or yet another No Land Beyond to add to their growing collection. My point is this: Having Exotics drop as themselves rather than Engrams adds emotion and excitement to the disgustingly bland pool of raid loot we already have, and the reactions from them DURING the raids (as opposed to at the tower after the raid, when most of the team has likely already left) with our teammates when they show up only helps to build memories and friendships. I can tell you exactly how I got my Vex Mythoclast, it was my first ever hard Vault of Glass and I shrieked in excitement, my team being less so about the new guy getting all the cool stuff. My Gjallarhorn dropped from Deathsingers during a late night raid, and I had to scream while whispering because I would've woke up everyone within 4 blocks of me if I hadn't. My Crux took time, and lots of disappointing hard Crota drops to get, but once I did I used Necrochasm RELIGIOUSLY, I loved its design, it's name, it's description, everything about it. My Last Word came from the Vault of Glass Horgon chest when I joined in saying all I wanted was to fulfill my dreams of being a space cowboy, and my team blessed the chest and my dreams were fulfilled. I could tell you countless stories of getting other D1 exotics for the first time. But now, with Engrams, what story is there to tell? The fabled question a new player sends you when he sees you in patrol with your shiny new exotic toy: "Where did you get that cool gun from?" Can only be answered with a bland "from an Engram." If Bungie wants us to play for the "Friendgame" then gives us something to shriek about when they drop, and not another boring thing to have to do at the tower alone after the team has completely disbanded and gone their separate ways. To emphasize this point of mine: Go rewatch those old YouTube videos of Gjallarhorn and Vex Mythoclast reactions. Tell me your stories of memorable drops, and then I want you to try and remember where you got some of your exotics from in D2. Not from Engrams, but what activity was it that got you the Engram? | Just started playing Destiny 1 for the first time after playing D2 for over 200+ hours... Posted: 30 Dec 2017 08:20 PM PST And my god, it's night and day. Destiny 1 shits on Destiny 2; from the insane customisation and variety of abilities, to an amazing quest tracking system, to grimoire cards, to unlimited shaders essentially making Eververse obsolete. Destiny 1 should have been the sequel, not the other way 'round. I realize I am late to the party and this topic has probably been covered to death, but seriously as a newcomer to Destiny 1, this game is a goddamn masterpiece in comparison to the garbage of Destiny 2. Edit: forgot a word. Edit 2: Wow this blew up! Woke up to an insane amount of responses, and couldn't be happier to start the New Year! Happy New Year guardians, I hope you all have an amazing 2018!!! [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Honestly, Bungie would make so much more money if they had a good game ON TOP of micro transactions Posted: 30 Dec 2017 10:04 PM PST I wouldn't have a problem with MTX if they weren't the sole purpose of the game. If we had daily missions with decent rewards, a good version of the crucible, funner weapons, better solo play, etc., just think of all the people that would be playing the game. Hell, if that were the case, I wouldn't mind dropping $5 on Eververse on top of logging in daily. Now I just lurk this sub and play like once a week. From a business standpoint, it's weird to me that Bungie is so content with nickel and diming their already dwindling fan base while being capable of such phenomenal work. If they just put a fraction of the effort into the actual game itself in the same manner they have for Eververse, they'd be making way more money. It seems like they only care about cash at this point, right? So why don't they want to make us happy and profit from a larger group of satisfied customers? Doesn't make sense to me. Bungie is screwing themselves over in the long run. The direction they're taking D2 in is incredibly frustrating and nonsensical. As a fan, I want Destiny to be saved. Please, Bungie. We're rooting for your success but you can't make these types of mistakes three years into the game... [link] [comments] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| For Destiny 2 to have truly interesting loot, before anything else is done, perks need an overhaul Posted: 31 Dec 2017 01:16 PM PST One of the biggest issues facing Destiny on a design level is how underwhelming weapon perks are. The vast majority of perks give small bonuses that are essentially only useful in PvP, and even then often only marginally, and are entirely useless in PvE. Things like Hip-Fire Grip, Moving Target, Field Prep, and even genuinely valued perks like Opening Shot, Tap the Triger, and Zen Moment are just straight-up bad in PvE when compared to the really useful perks. That's in addition to straight up useless perks like Graverobber and Pulse Monitor. As the perk system currently is, the list of truly useful PvE perks is incredibly limited. It basically comes down to Explosive Payload, Rampage, Kill Clip, Outlaw, and maybe High-Impact Reserves. I may be missing a few, as these are all off the top of my head, but that's a ridiculously small pool of really good PvE perks. Those few are essential the only perks that are genuinely impactful or noticeable in a way that changes how you play. Even Dragonfly has been so neutered that it's almost useless. I think one of the most telling things is that Explosive Payload is far and away the best PvE perk, single-handedly making Better Devils, Namless Midnight and Manannan SR4 the best weapons in the game for PvE. Explosive Payload is absolutely not a particularly busted or overpowered perk. It doesn't really do anything mind-blowing or game-changing, just something reasonably useful. The fact that it's (arguably) the best perk in the game by a wide margin is ridiculous. This game needs better, more interesting loot. It needs ways to make guns customizable, whether that's through reintroducing random rolls or through a revamp of the mod system. But before any system to make loot more interesting can be put in place, Bungie needs to go back to the drawing board on perks themselves. The vast, vast majority of perks in Destiny 2 are either terrible, only good in PvP, or just plain boring, and that's a big problem. | Posted: 30 Dec 2017 08:26 PM PST Fine, you want to do your single use shaders Bungie, but meet us half way here... What I'm saying is, if you use a shader, you should be able to select among different shaders you previously used on the same item. Oh I don't know... maybe those blocks under the shader which are always empty should be populated with all shaders you used up already... | I just spent 8 hours for 60 bright dust. Don't tell me Eververse is generous. Posted: 30 Dec 2017 01:45 PM PST (EDIT: After grinding for 4 more hours, I ended up with another 30 bright dust because I got the trendy dance emote. I could not care less about yet another dance emote. So. Title update. I just spent 12 hours for 90 bight dust. Don't tell me Eververse is generous.) The exotic dawning emote costs 3250 bright dust. That is a ridiculous price. After emptying my stores of all sparrows and shaders (I'm on PC and also played on PS4, which after season 1 I basically stopped) in order to buy the exotic emotes at the end of season 1 (I had to buy two, so that's 6500 after a month and a half of play, minus what I spent on armor and like one ornament, in the middle of school and work) since my RNG isn't great, I have had to grind for hours upon hours this week. Every single day. I currently have 2825 after deleting everything I have gotten in season 2 minus armor. I did save up and buy the titan dawning set (got the helmet and legs lucky, which would have been like 1600 or 2050 idk). This is awful. I am repeatedly getting screwed over by RNG. "You can buy the stuff you want with bright dust" doesn't work when bright dust itself is RNG. Max I can get 130 if I just delete every shader I get, which I have done, so no shaders for me except the dawning gift shaders. The last two four hour sessions of me mostly being solo on the EDZ since I have a 10% shell for there resulted in the Karnstein ornament (I literally don't even have Karnstein, and am not interested because it's not even good), and the Prospector ornament (literally the only thing I have used prospector for is solo chests in the Leviathan. Once. I could not give less fucks about the ornament for it). 8 hours. 60 bright dust. I can buy 1 shader with that if I wanted to. 1. Shader. Consumable shader. 1. But then I only have that 60 bright dust because I have dulled myself to caring about shaders at. all. If I did, that number would be 0 (okay okay no it would be 30 because I would have sold that watermelon trash :P But you can't buy anything with 30 dust). Maximum, if I had been decently normally average lucky, I would have got 260. If I got really lucky with a 250 bright dust gift, that would be 410 (280 + 130). For 8 hours of mindless, top efficiency grind. Typically, however, it would be 260. 410 is asking too much tho usually since you are only getting gifts of bright dust every once in a long ass while. I have seen a 500 gift exactly once. I think. 260 out of the 3250 I need. To the exclusion of all other dawning items this week. To the exclusion of the ship last week since that week I wanted the couple armor pieces. To the exclusion of any other things in Eververse either week. For 8 hours of mindless, tedious mostly solo grind. /u/dmg04 I hate having to choose between what is fun and what is rewarding. Nerfing public events and then only making crucible and strikes marginally better did not help that, it made it worse. In fact, the XP gained from public events was already too low. WHY WHY WHY did you guys nerf it, Bungie. God forbid I try to get the cool emotes or a full armor set for one character, let alone two, let alone three. I've already had to completely give up hope of getting the season 2 armor for my hunter, since I already focus on my Warlock and have just gotten lucky with my Titan enough to keep trying for that. And don't give me crap about "just grind other things." There's nothing else to day-to-day grind for. I have done all of the armor ornaments (save being 22 of 26 competitive games atm). I have done all the osiris weapons. I have more masterwork cores simply due to gunsmith parts than people I know who said they grind masterworks. Only thing I don't do is Trials because I am just not good enough. I am pretty much just an average Destiny player. The only thing I have left to grind for are raid items and Eververse items. Raid items aren't any more functional that Eververse items and personally the Eververse stuff is more expansive and better looking. There is no raid ship. No raid sparrow. No raid ornament save one. And it literally paints your gun white (when we already know they could have just let us use white shaders that would allow way more customization and instead have weapon ornaments work like armor ornaments). The Prestige armor is not worth going for since it literally has just little glowy purple stripes. The only thing worth grinding in this game is Eververse once you've collected things in this anti-collection game, and this game is doing everything it can to keep me from doing even that. Eververse is only generous if you literally don't care about it. And if I don't care about it, what else is there to keep me playing? Destiny 1 I had a billion reasons to play, and I'm not some nostalgic rose tinted ass. I started actually really playing Destiny this year semi casually. If I don't have anything rewarding to play for, I'm sorry but the same repetitive content is just not enough. The laughably low amount of people who know the story in the adventures is a testament to the fact that this is how most people are. There is no reason to do them. I'm not a one off here. Oh, and buying items doesn't even make it better. I tried that once. Spent $20 I didn't have. Made me feel sick to my stomach. Got nothing worth anything, and barely 800 dust out of it. This long ass post isn't even close to exhaustive with so many other issues I haven't even mentioned. I'm pretty pissed right now. I'm not well off, so I had to bet on this game. So monetarily I'm more or less locked to it. I wanted something that would get me something for my money. This though? This? | 24 Seconds Argos Kill - 1 Shield Break (Worlds Fastest) Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:13 AM PST Hey Guys, Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7QLxz-8EY Sneaky´s POV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elY9GDONIS8 This is a Argos Kill in 24 Seconds/a single shield break. The timer for the kill is from the frame he takes damage to the frame his healthbar is empty. We used 6 hunters for this. I was first a Nightstalker Hunter (using top tree) with Orpheus Rig and used my tether a lot of times to create a high amount of orbs. After that i switch to Golden Gun with Celestial Nighthawk (using bottom tree). My 5 Teammates were already using Golden Guns with Nighthawk. The Key thing here is that we make 2 orbs each time we hit a critical shot with our Golden Guns. Those orbs are giving me my super so that all of us can use as many supers as possible while combining that with clusterbomb rockets (everyone used curtain call). All of this combined ended up beeing the fastest Argos Kill. For anyone who is curios: the timer is from the frame Argos gerts hit for the first time to the frame his healthbar is empty.
