New City-State, Babylon - Suzerain Bonus shown

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 06:06 AM PST

Haven't seen anyone else mentioning this on here. Babylon gives you +2 Science per Great Work of Writing, and +1 Science per Relic or Artifact. So it's not a direct replacement for Seoul, or any other City-State for that matter.

I was just thinking "wouldn't it be great if there was some sort of country simulator game?"

A game where you go to war and conduct trade and explore earth and shit. And I realized it existed the whole time. I'm going to reinstall civV now.

Unique Districts by type [R&F]... could be a clue to new civs

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 04:20 PM PST

  • Seowon (Korea) -- Campus
  • Lavra (Russia) -- Holy Site
  • Mbanza (Kongo) -- Neighborhood
  • Bath (Rome) -- Aqueduct
  • Royal Navy Dockyard (England) -- Harbor
  • Street Carnival (Brazil) -- Entertainment Complex
  • Hansa (Germany) -- Industrial Zone
  • Acropolis (Greece) -- Theater Square
  • ???? -- Commercial Hub
  • ???? -- Encampment

Currently, if two civs share a unique district type, they will be unable to build things in them (this is especially true if you are using a modded civ). So either Firaxis will fix this or they will release new civs that fill the remaining district types (my list excludes the Spaceport and Aerodrome... because).

Who do you think will fill the remaining spots? For Encampment, I could definitely see Zulu filling that role... not sure about the Commercial Hub.

[help] Good rules of thumb for military in civ 6?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 01:10 PM PST

Hey. So I am a long time civ player but my biggest weakness has always been military. I focus on getting up a good basis for a civilization early on (founding good cities, etc.) but if a civ decides they want to carpet swarm me with military I have pretty much lost.

I was just playing as Khmer on emperor. Neighbor was china (not a civ I thought likely to be too aggressive). Well early on I see more warriors and slingers than I would expect so a build a few slingers. Sure enough the dude pops up a few turns later declaring war. I fend him off.

Fast forward to turn 90 (ish). I was going for culture victory with focus on religion so I have spent resources building a holy site + shrine to make sure I get one. Other than that I have 3 cities + capital and have focused on basic infrastructure. I have made sure to have a bit of a military, mostly archers. Suddenly goddamn knights come pouring out of the fog and again that cackling dumpling is back on the screen. I ended up losing my capital and most of my military, from there it was not really worth carrying on. It should be noted whilst the knights were a pain in the ass, a lot of the military came from his allied city state. My own city state was further up the map and its units only got there after the capital was taken.

Now I know I neglect my military too much, my question is what kind of numbers / tech timings should I aim for with an aggressive neighbor on emperor?

EDIT: Thinking about it I would like to expand the question. Most of my civ career has been civ 5 where I knew early game to go for 4 cities, national college by t100, etc.. What are good things to aim for like that in civ 6? It feels like there are so many more options in the early game and I think I often play inefficiently by just not focusing on the right thing. Usually my priority is warriors->settlers->builders->districts in the capital, builders and traders in other cities. (I build monuments and military and stuff as well of course, that is just a general gist).

Deleting cities instantly the moment you overpower them - The new go-to strat after R&F's loyalty system?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 01:09 PM PST

Something that surprised me last monday, was watching a Civ6 multiplayer stream where somebody deleted a city the instant he captured it. The opposing player had zero opportunity to even try to recapture it.

Once Rise & Fall comes out then you won't be able to just eat half an empire and expect it to stay loyal to you. So just delete the cities and re-settle the area yourself..?

I'm really hoping the whole insta-deleting of cities gets removed altogether. -_-

The Dutch are getting polders (reclaiming the sea) - would it be logical then that we might be getting 1-tile long canals?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 03:46 AM PST

I checked the sub, I failed to find a discussion that'd be tying in the Dutch's polders.

Thoughts?

Which CIV IV DLC are worth getting?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:53 AM PST

Recently purchased my first piece of DLC on CIV 6 (Indonesia) and quite enjoy playing them due to their unique tile improvement being so strong and providing a varied game strategy. The scenario was also alright. Which other dlc packs are good/worth getting?

It's hard to choose based upon steam reviews as they are all so negatively influenced by the fact that all the DLCs are overpriced.
