Most intensive thing I've seen in Rimworld so far

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 04:28 PM PST

Started a new colony, rich space explorer.

Very promising and beautiful map layout, colonist had about 8 passion skills but was incapable of violence. After hauling almost everything to the stockpile and setting up a turret and feeding it with a power, she just had to grab a few more things before starting on our farm and base.

The turret was built behind a mountain, where our base would be built. She had to walk around it to haul the last few items. After grabbing it, a notification popped up. A random event.

It was a mad animal. A mad squirrel, to be exact. "No biggie", I thought. We were on our way to our turret again, we'd be there before the squirrel reached us. But the damned thing was fast. She needed to walk 20 seconds uninterrupted to make it before the squirrel started scratching and biting her.

We could still make it. She started getting cuts and wounds and slowly crawled on, despite the squirrel chomping on her legs. So many cuts after another, it was hard for her to still be conscious.

She was so close to passing out, but just a few more steps before the turret could kill the squirrel (hopefully not wounding her). Just a few more.

The turret started firing. 3 shots. "This is it" I thought. "We're saved!"

They all missed. I tried to make her move out of the turrets way, but because of her damaged legs, low consciousness and the squirrel attacking her, she could barely move. She was so close to passing out.

The turret fired again, but missed all of them. This can't be happening. I can't lose this colony to a squirrel.

The squirrel hit her again, and she downed. The pain was unbearable. This colony is doomed. The turret fired again, and hit the squirrel. It died instantly.

Oh well, that doesn't matter. She was downed anyway. I checked her pain and pain threshold. She exceeded it by 4%, and was slowly recovering. She'd bleed to death in 13 hours. There's still a chance. With about 3 hours left, she managed to regain her consciousness and crawled back to the stockpile for that sweet glitterworld medicine. It was a short walk, she'd make it.

But I didn't pay attention for a few seconds. She preferred to sleep over patching herself up (self-healing was enabled). Oops. Still enough time, though. I made her get up and heal herself. As she was patching the first wound while bleeding to death, she got an infection. It reduced her consciousness and made her faint. There was no way out anymore. She was dying. This was the end of her story.

There was an escape pod event earlier. The refugee could've helped me kill the squirrel or patch her up. But the refugee recovered 10 seconds after crashing and walked out of the map.

My most promising colony yet ended because of a squirrel. These were the most intensive 5 minutes out of my 100 hours in Rimworld.

I fucking love this game.

Well I WAS about to sit down to play some Rimworld... But apparently that's no longer an option.

Innocent prisoner my ass

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 02:41 PM PST

One of the most irritating scenarios, I find, is when I capture a downed raider, try to nurse him back to health in my prison, only to have him die from infection or blood loss a couple hours later and then everyone in the colony gets an "innocent prisoner died" debuff. What the hell, guys, earlier this morning the dude was trying to kill you all. Any mods or anything that make debuffs like this more realistic?

How do you get an AI persona core?

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 01:02 AM PST

I'm on year 15 now with 20+ colonists and a base that covers about 20% of the map (40% if you count the strip mines). I've killed multiple psychic ships/poison ships, traded with multiple exotic goods traders, and have yet to see an AI persona core. And ever since I started paying attention to it from around year 5 onwards, I haven't seen any through item quests...

What do?

Please allow us to re-settle abandoned settlements.

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 04:19 PM PST

I think this would add great longevity to existing saves. Imagine you lose your main settlement in a raid. You must abandon your settlement with the survivors you have and start over at a new location. After some time once your colony becomes strong again, you could return to your old abandoned settlement and do a fixing up job on it. Restablishing the power, fixing the walls, building the defences back up, etc.

This would be far better I think than how it is currently, where once we abandoned a settlement, we can never return. Why lock us out of that gameplay option?

What exactly are the chances of a divorced couple remarrying? In my couple, one has an opinion of -59 whilst the other has +46.

New player (Extremely overwhelmed)

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 04:23 PM PST

Been watching people play this game for ages on twitch now and I thought I'd buy it and join in on the fun, BUT... I'm extremely overwhelmed, watching streams is one thing, but putting it into practice is another - Starting to feel buyers remorse. I'm very willing to stick to it and learn though. If you've got any tips/tricks for newcomers, please do post them, they'll be very much appreciated!

Mod Request

Looking for a mod that sorts meat categories into humanoid and 'safe' meats. Playing with many different races and having to weed through and uncheck the various cannibal meats for each bill is a real pain.

What's is a good mod for a medieval play through?

I have Jecrell's vampire mod and medieval times, but don't have one for all medieval factions. Would love a suggestion for one of those or any other medieval style mods.

Does clothing and armor on corpses contribute to colony wealth?

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 06:32 PM PST

Additionally, does clothing and armor on corpses in graves or coffins contribute to colony wealth?

I can't find a specific answer to these questions on the wiki or the subreddit.
