[Idea] For a 1-mile radius around a Kyogre raid, please change the in-game weather to rain. Same for other valid Legendary pokemon.

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:28 AM PST

As the title states, it would be nice to introduce weather pockets to the game based on the active raids. Similarly, Groudon could cause it to be sunny even in the middle of a snow storm.

Not only would this be cool to be travelling and suddenly see rain, but it would also allow people to search for pokemon spawns for weather elements that they may not be seeing often.

Example: It never rains in California. If Kyogre raid hatches I'll search around the gym radius for water pokemon

EDIT: It also has the added benefit of bringing attention to a given raid and finding more trainers to assist in the raid.

Niantic should offer a raid map or increase the area in which raids are shown

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 08:54 AM PST

I live in a small town and we have a small community with up to 25 active raiders and especially in the winter it is hard to see raids. That's why only 1-2 raids are done here per day.

If the radius of raids shown would be bigger or Niantic would offer a map where we can see when raids start etc. would help a lot and for sure increase the raids.

I think that would also help a lot against pokemon maps.

[Discussion] I've Gotta Admit; I am Thoroughly Surprised and Excited fot Niantic's Upcoming Gen 3 and Weather Content

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 12:53 PM PST

I myself am typically a pretty salty critic of the usual Niantic antics (my flair being an homage to Niantic's rich history of failure), yet I can't help but cheer for them with this latest update - now that they're effectively putting the "r" in "Hype Train." Amidst the year's schedule of each piece of newer content simply drudging on until people can't stand it anymore before something pops up to distract us, this coming update is an absolute combo breaker, and one that we, and Niantic, desperately needed.

A few days ago, we redditors, for the most part, were up in arms about the idea that the leaked Ho-oh extension would call for further delays of the Gen 3 release. To be fair, this was based on quite a bit of stacking evidence, that suggests a shockingly consistant pattern of no particular events or releases overlapping. I have previously mentioned in scathing comments that, quote, "Niantic is not exactly known for their ability to juggle 2 fun things at once. . ." and yet, against all odds, it's coming out in the next few days. Ho-oh and Gen 3 in full swing at the same time. I'm so glad to see a shift in the year-long pattern of one event/releases pushing back other content; it's refreshing to say the least and I hope this becomes a new pattern.

Another thing, which to be fair, doesn't sound so great on the surface, is that Niantic is choosing to only release 52 Gen 3 pokémon right off the bat. However, these particular pokémon were pretty carefully selected for longevity, and the roster isn't comprised of the typical trash mons that one might expect. The known list includes the gen 3 starter lines, several of the expected earlier mons, as well as Mawile, Absol, and even evolution lines like Gardevoir, Aggron, Wailord, and Salamence (and no Wingull). We could even see Groudon raids popping up fairly soon. Again, these are some great picks that could keep us busy for a while - until the next Gen 3 release waves hit us in the form of events or otherwise. I'm actually ok with waiting to see how this turns out - since this seems to be steps above the simple "bleeeehh here's all of Gen 2" tactic we saw last February. Nice to see some switching up on that front.

"And now, the weather."

As someone who lives in the Midwestern USA, I really hope that the snowy weather only sticks around when snow is actually falling from the sky. It would seem that these weather effects also have an impact on wild spawns, and we get enough Swinub and Jynx here as is. That being said, it is a really nice touh to the overall QoL of the in-game search aspect - in that you might see some things in your biomes that are not as common. It's some pretty exciting stuff, but I really wanna see how it plays out.

A lot of users might be suspect of the whole thing, that releasing this new content might be a loaded bandaid fix that just masks a lot of the game's other problems, but at least for the time being, it's a vast improvement, and it might spell good things for the future of Niantic's direction. They've certainly showed us that they can meet, or even pass expectations, and have the potential to continue the trend of improvement.

Anyone else getting a little hopeful for the future? I usually don't say that, but yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised by all this, and I honestly can't wait to see how this whole thing unravels at the end of the week.

Thoughts?

Groudon comes with half of Gen 3 and Kyogre comes with the rest after Christmas

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:38 PM PST

I don't know if this is what they're aiming for but if only Groudon is released as a raid boss with Gen 3 tomorrow i might start to believe they will do the same with the rest and Kyogre after a few weeks has past.
