Heroes of the Storm - Playing Murky with the Murky announcer should make the announcer understandable

Playing Murky with the Murky announcer should make the announcer understandable

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:07 AM PST

Murky's announcer is 1.6k shards and of legendary quality. Needless to say it is very worthy of legendary status (despite actively hindering your game to an extent). But still, it's such a nice refresher to hear in the game compared to the other, more serious announcers.

But, why as Murky, do I still hear unintelligible garbage from the announcer? Surely Murky is just speaking in his own native tongue, which only other Murlocs can understand. So why can't we (as Murky) understand his announcer? I've gotten used to what some of the Mrglglr noises mean, but still... is Murky ACTUALLY just speaking gibberish? Does Murky even know what he is saying??

Blizzard, can we please have a “group up” option after we finish a match we enjoyed with strangers like we do in Overwatch?

Enough with the double supports in QM

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:15 PM PST

Every. Single. Time. I play support I get matched with another support.

But when I play literally any other role I get all assassins, specialists, and warriors.

Enough. Seriously. Get an actual Matchmaker going on, take these two supports you keep ramming together and put them on separate teams that don't already have a support.

We really need the basics of MM to work out in QM, I get it, it's the "Wild West," but even the Wild West needs some basic rules in place.

If you win the first zerg wave in braxis you win 84% of the time (stats inside)

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:29 AM PST

this is just a small samplesize of just 50 games(last 7days). and its just high master games (taken from hotslogs). out of 50 games the team that got the first wave won 42 games. the snowball effect is probably not as high on lower ranks but it still shows the massive snowball effect of braxis everybody is taking about.

A Message for ETCs: Stop using W to spread the wave!

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 03:15 PM PST

I can't count the number of times an ETC has used his W while I have been Jaina and tried to clear with a Blizzard or as Nazeebo trying to apply my trait with the spiders. If you are alone go for it, but please be considerate of your teammates.

HOTS Riddles - Who Am I?

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 04:35 AM PST

Hi Guys and (Cho)Gals,

Super quiet at work today so I made some HOTS related riddles for a friend to try out. Thought I'd share them here and see how Reddit fares. I'll reveal the answers as people get them :). ENJOY!

1

I have a round body

but I have no soul

I make a lot of noise

but I cannot speak at all

2 -This one's easy

I protect nature

The wild I keep

My toxins kill slowly

With spears and leaps

3

You'll find me on the high street

But I ain't no florist

What I sell isn't rotten

Its fresh, Honest

4

You won't see me coming

But I don't shy from a fight

When it's all over

This star will shine bright

5

I grew up in a busy place

lots of siblings all around me

If you try to pick me out

You'll find the water hazy

6

Enduring in a foreign time

Never to be found

Will we make it back for summer raids

and rich new lands abound?

[Hero concept] Zenyatta, Omnic Monk

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:55 PM PST

Hello again !

Remember my small Zenyatta in StarCraft 2 a few months ago ?

Well I thought that it was a shame to stop there. And I haven't done any concept for an Overwatch hero, so...

There it is, in all his ballsy robotic glory :

Zenyatta, Omnic Monk

This concept involves tons of damage, sexual innuendos, ninjas requiring healing, balls-to-the-wall ultimates and crazy talents.

Hold on, that sounds like the majority of my concepts.

Anyway, I tried to convey Zenyatta's duality as much as I could, by completely separating damage and healing, as well as a fancy trait that requires you to juggle between both to stay efficient.

Hope you'll like it !

Also, I have another concept in the works, which is about a massive PTSD involving ancient tombs and very sad necromancers.

Competitive Hero Tier List December 2017 - Based on pro picks and bans in the past 30 days

Blizz, can we please have a "set as default" button?

Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:25 PM PST

I wish we could have the option to "set as default" Mount, Banner, Announcer for all characters. Maybe I earn a mount or craft one and want to play with it for a couple of day. It would be great if I could just set it as default and concentrate on playing game, drafting and so on. I think it`s a cool idea, what do you guys think?

I like to play Alarak, and no, I am not a bruiser.

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:34 AM PST

I'm tired of playing nearly every single qm (9 out of 10 in 2 days), where I am the only melee in my team and I am matched vs Sonya. Always her. Blizzard, Alarak is NOT a bruiser, he doesn't have high hp pool, he doesn't have 75% dmg reduction talent. Isn't it ridiculous that I need to apologize to my teammates for PICKING ALARAK, because it is not rare that they blame me for the loss, solely for picking the hero. Because Alarak's mm is broken. Blizz, how long?

do you ever feel helpless about your favorite heroes getting reworked?

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:37 PM PST

This hit me really hard for the hammer rework. In my opinion a hero that was really good in niche situations or in very experienced hands became very boring, a hero that can be very mediocre in a lot of situations that doesnt really stand out in any way except for her siege mechanics which no longer offer as many positives. like i said thats just my personal opinion but sometimes i miss playing old versions of heroes that i loved and it makes me sad that there is some flavor of the month trend going on where heroes randomly get reworks whether its to keep up with the powercreep and mobility of newer heroes or just to "streamline" their kit which i suspect is what happened with hammer, she doesnt feel the same, she doesnt feel as fun or as impactful, to me at least, its just a different hero and it makes me sad

Tip to prevent yourself from spontaneously combusting in Hero League

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:49 PM PST

If you just came off a game with a ton of toxicity, or are on a huge losing streak, just take a moment to relax. Close out of Heroes of the Storm, and watch a Youtube video, read a book, listen to some music. I can't count the number of times I've checked the match history of a toxic person and they've lost the past 5 games.

It's because most people aren't toxic most of the time. YOU are not toxic most of the time.

We all have moments where we feel frustrated or "salty," times when we feel like the maps, other players, and the game is just working against us.

But take a deep breath, just a short break from Heroes of the Storm, and realize that often times the problem is YOU. You aren't doing anyone a favor by queuing back up for Hero League. Your toxicity and salt affects your gameplay, it affects your team's gameplay, and it ruins the experience for everyone except the gloating enemy team. It's not the draft, it's not the matchmaking, it's not the balance. Don't get salty over things you can't control. Don't try to fix your teammates poor mechanics in the middle of the game, especially not by flaming them.

For your sake and everyone else's, take some time to reflect after a bad game, and don't let your anger carry over to the next one.

How to pick up early game advantages as a tank player! Great advice for anyone Bronze-Diamond.

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:17 PM PST

I've been a part of the Heroes community for a long time now and I've noticed some bad habits in Hero League play so I felt like educating players who are seeking out tips to improve! I do understand that not every game plays out the same, and there's no general strategy that works for all team comps and maps, so use this post as a way to improve on your game the best you can!

For my first post I thought it would be fitting to talk about the early game. The general consensus lately is that the game is very "snowbally" right now, and whether that is or isn't true, there is a lot of skill involved in playing a correct early game and picking up an advantage. This will talk about what Tanks can do, but you can definitely infer some extra information for assassins and supports!

I will tldr everything important for anyone skimming to see what it's all about, then you can read the main body of text if you want context and information.

The Start of a Game

In a typical game of HOTS the start of the game is predictable, both teams send all five mid, a brawl occurs, then both teams send their remaining heroes to their lanes. What you may not know, is that committing too much time to the mid brawl is actually denying your team of something to be gained elsewhere. If what you're thinking is "he's going to say we're missing XP on other lanes" then you'll be surprised to know that I'm actually talking about something that is far more significant in getting ahead. You're actually missing the opportunity to control the early game rotations of the other team.

Rotations are something that you'll hear talked about all the time by the casters in HGC. You'll rarely see great rotational play made in Hero League, but why exactly is this? The main reason is that the lack of communication in Hero League makes precise team rotations nearly impossible, so what can you do as an individual to take advantage of rotations? Well as a support or assassin player, the most you can expect to do is to make sure your own rotations are safe. Just for context, a safe rotation is when you move from one lane to another on your own side of the battleground. As a tank though, you have the power to control the other teams rotations in such a way that creates opportunities for value. In this post I'll only be talking about the very early game value of this, but rotational control has huge value throughout the game.

I'll give some examples of how positioning yourself between lanes can create some value.

tldr: 5 man brawls have potential value, rotational control offers more value.

Cursed Hollow: Denying XP

So you're playing as a tank on Cursed Hollow, the five man brawl starts mid, but this game you decide to leave first and you start heading down to bot lane with an assassin. The biggest mistake a tank player can make is to safely rotate all the way down and start clearing bot lane with the assassin, and I'll tell you why! It's simply because instead of clearing bot, you should stand in the bush that I've expertly labelled as number 1... that's all, standing in this bush has the potential to create much greater value for your team than attacking the bot lane minion wave.

The enemy's safest rotation is actually to go all the way from mid healing well, down behind their bot fort, and then into lane. Doing a rotation like this, after committing 30 seconds to mid will lose them XP in bot lane. So what you'll more often see is them making the still "safe" but not completely safe rotation of going past the bush, and then down their own side of the map. Usually this rotation goes unpunished and they arrive bot lane to collect a good amount of XP. Today is going to be different, you'll be waiting inside that bush. As an ETC, you could play your guitar solo and start trading into them, if they trade is unfavorable you can W-Q away from them and safely move on to something else, gaining value from denying them a couple minions more worth of XP. If it is favorable they'll be forced to take a safer route, in which case you can rotate down to the enemy's bot lane bush, creating yet another opportunity to dismount and trade into them again. You have to remember that this is the best case situation, but because you played the early game this way, you've denied them an entire wave of minion XP, which is worth man than a kill in the 5 man brawl and has also established a dominance.

Remember, when rotations slow down and people have settled in lane(which commonly happens) anchor yourself to a bush near lane and look for over extensions by the enemy team. The threat of you coming out from between lanes to land some CC on enemy heroes is much more valuable than your wave clear contribution. (Stitches and Johanna can be used for wave clear)

If you want to know how to dismount and slow rotations here's a quick list...

Anub'Arak - Trade into them and Eaway, or Q and walk away.

Muradin - Trade into them, get a stack of Q, E away

ETC - Trade into them, W-Q away

Those are the safe tanks which I recommend positioning aggressively with.

Johanna - Max range E, then walk away

Stitches - Max range W, then walk away

Don't be too aggressive with these guys, as you can be run down if too many people rotate into you.

tldr: Tanks should harass rotating players to slow them. Squishy heroes should rotate early and safely to avoid the tanks playing this way.

Dragon Shire: Kill Opportunity and Minimizing Risk

The lower half of Dragon Shire is a very dangerous area. It may not look like anything interesting, but the bushes between these lanes should be treated as valuable. Something you may not do when playing HOTS is to think to yourself "what does the enemy's screen look like?" you need to start thinking like this! Vision, or lack of vision, creates kill opportunities for free! On Cursed Hollow I talked about the value of denying XP... but what if we could do that, and more? We absolutely can on Dragon Shire.. If you're playing a tank you can position aggressively in the opponent's bush between mid and bot.

Imagine you're positioned in that bush, the enemy has no vision between those lanes, but your allies can clearly see all the enemy rotations coming through mid, using you as a source of vision. In some cases they'll path past you and make the decision to just run down to bot lane. At this point you should throw out an assist ping on the rotating hero to notify your friendly in bot lane that you have a kill opportunity. Another case, two heroes run past you to bot, you see them rotating and simply dismount and walk down to your friendly... In this case you've slowed their rotation and your friendly down bot has the knowledge of two rotating enemies, giving them plenty of time to position safely within the lane.

This all may not sound like a lot, but I assure all of you reading, the combination of creating opportunity for kills, minimizing the risk of your teammates being caught out, and becoming a beacon of vision, is a very powerful tool.

It's also worth mentioning, if you happen to pick up a good kill, help put some structure damage down on the lane, or soak so the assassin can leave to solo your easy camp to create pressure.

tldr: Use the bushes under mid lane to find kill opportunities and to act as vision for your team.

Final Word

The main take-away from this post for you guys is to think more about what you can do outside of hitting minions in lane. Think about the map as a whole, think about setting up kill opportunities outside of heads up fights, and think about denying the enemy team access to XP and to the map.

I'll be writing more of these if there's any demand for it at all. If I'm helping just a couple people I'm happy! Feel free to message me here on reddit to ask absolutely anything about Heroes or to give me some feedback, because I do realize how rough this post is. Thanks for reading!

Are we just accepting that ranked lost all credibility this season?

Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:04 AM PST

I mean Hots ranked were never the most reliable ranked ladder in the world but for the most part master were pretty good players and GM's were usually very or exceptionally good. This season all of my friends have placed 1-10 ranks above their highest ever achieved rank and most of them went more than 10 ranks up through placements. This is all after the supposed fix. So are we just to accept that master is the new plat or?
