DAE think GTA:O would have been a much better experience if player blips were not displayed from the start?

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:18 AM PST

The main argument against this is always "Well then it would be too hard to find other players."

Sure, the way the game is designed now, it would be hard. But had they designed it without blips from the start, there could have been some simple additions to help that issue.

For instance, Lester could have "On the Radar" for one minute. Gunshots could show up on the mini map if fired within a certain distance (block or two). I always thought it would be cool if we could buy police scanners to track where criminal activity is taking place. There's many other ways R* could've eased the search.

I think the pros of a blip-less mini map would FAR outweigh the cons.

Some pros...

FAR LESS GRIEFING!

When you're a mark on a map, you're exactly that. A MARK! Nobody cares what you're doing, who you are, who's your daddy, or what does he do. You're just a dot on a map that needs to disappear. If players had to contact other players via the phone to find out where they're at and what they're up to, maybe they'd be less incline to just kill at random. Maybe players would be more inclined to team up and work together. Naturally, gangs would form, money would be made, and blood would be shed. Just the way the hood intended.

MORE IMMERSION!

It goes without saying that GTA:O is beautiful. The detail is remarkable. The amount of time put into every little thing is astonishing. But most people dont see it. Most people are staring at a tiny 2 dimensional box in the bottom right hand of the screen filled with white and red dots. That mini map shouldn't even be on the screen. It should be accessed by the phone or pause menu.

Did you know that every single street in San Andreas has a name? THAT'S INSANE! Most people never noticed because they don't have to. Imagine having to call and ask for directions/streets instead of just "Ok, I'll highlight you." Or having to learn landmarks to take direction. It sounds boring, but we would have adapted really quick to it had it been there from the start. And I think it would've made for some far more realistic moments.

GRATIFICATION!!!

This is, IMO, the most important one. The thrill of the kill would be SOOO much more intense if we actually had to WORK for these kills. Think about the plotting we'd have to do to take someone out. Think about the hightened state of awareness we'd have to constanly have.

"Hey, I see a custom car parked outside of AmmuNation. Let's park across the street and see if anyone comes out." Or "Hey, I just saw some cops flying down the street. Let's follow them and see where they're headed."

Imagine the GTA moments that would be born from an environment like that!

I could go on for days about how thing shoulda, coulda, woulda been with GTA:O. Imo, with as good as this game is, R* dropped the ball in so many places. I think the player blips is one of the biggies. I only hope that, if and when 6 comes out, they figure that out.

Until then, I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on it.

EDIT: Since this has gained some attention, I'd like to bring up some other ideas.

I mentioned in the comments about personal vehicle theft. I think a system similar to what I wrote would be pretty cool.

Another comment was about what players drop when they are killed. If blips were off, kills would be harder to come by. Therefore they should be more rewarding, both personally and monetarily.

I think that EVERYTHING a player is carrying, including cash, weapons, snacks, armor, etc., should be able to be picked up from the body. I think it's limited to like 5-10k right now. R* made a big deal about banking cash in the period leading up to online and it was basically pointless.

It's so easy to bank cash, there should be no reason to carry more money than a player is willing to lose. So why limit it? To be honest, I don't even like the mobile banking system. Players should be forced to bank at ATMs or banks.

I also think that cash transactions should be more fluid amongst players. Right now, we're limited to the amount of cash we can share and its dependent on work we've done with eachother. Fuck that! It's my money. Why can't I just let my friend have $20,000 if I want?

Thoughts?

Fun little detail about the new Revolver

If you apply light pressure to the trigger, you can pull the hammer back without firing. I don't know if this works with mouse and keyboard though.

Wouldn't it be great if freemode had more cooperative events? It would be so much more fun teaming up with many other players.

Getting kicked out of the Avenger upon trying to enter the cockpit from the hold

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 05:05 PM PST

Sometimes when I try to enter my Avenger's cockpit from the hold, I'll encounter a 15+ second loading screen and then get kicked from the aircraft. As you can imagine, this gets really fucking irritating when it happens in the air. It also happens to my friend (who doesn't own it). Any help?

Snow?

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 12:41 AM PST

Just curious. Is there going to be snow in GTA Online again this year? I missed it last year and my GF has never seen it.

If they are doing it, does anyone know when it starts?

Choosing the easy way out is a cancer in this game.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this "feature" is supposed to be other than a tool people use to grief others. I get that it could be useful if you get trapped somewhere but maybe give it a 2 min cooldown or something?

Why are the strippers so veiny?

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 01:43 AM PST

Are the devs insulting irl strippers or did they just say "fuck it" & not do the animation right or did they make it look bad to try to keep us away from the club?

Double Action Revolver information

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 02:51 AM PST

Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/DWF5y

Unlocked the revolver after doing an in lobby mission today

Notes

  • I was in a private session
  • The mission came via email and included three small 'go to a location and find a hidden item' type missions which starts via a clue leading to the board on the observation platform just East-Southeast outside sandy shores (location is rough)
  • I did not have any pre-order tied to my R* account
  • The gun didn't show up in Ammunation until I completed the mission

There is a small side quest associated with the gun, that being if you get 50 headshots with it, you unlock some type of DLC/skin for RDR2 tied to your social club account.

You also get a cool $250,000 and the challenge can be completed on NPC's, so may as well do it.

The pictures don't show it particularly well but the gun is gold with a white pearl handle. It's fire rate is about on par with the heavy pistol and its damage is medium-high

Edit: Looks like there are multiple starting locations, so YMMV

Is Rockstar going to increase the money obtained from Shark Cards?

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 09:15 AM PST

I see this topic pop up a lot and it just seems like an amazing idea. The economy of GTA has increased by a ton since the games released. Rockstar has made like billions of dollars off of this game so I don't understand why they can't increase the amount of money you get from shark cards. Is there any evidence that they will ever increase the money or will they always keep it the same?
