Why do shady publishers like Nexon and Aeria keep getting business from developers despite having a terrible reputation?

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 03:46 AM PST

I realize that publishing a game internationally is hard, but Nexon has bungled the release of so many big name Korean and Japanese games at this point that you'd think people would be more wary. You're willingly selling out your game and your reputation by partnering up with any of these companies (there are others that I'm forgetting that are just as bad too).

Hell, Nexon almost singlehandedly killed Dungeon Fighter Online with poor support and terrible monetary practices. Neople recently decided to self publish the game for a second try, and it's been much more successful. As an added plus, the game has also become much less predatory and way more fun to play due to a constant stream of events and equipment giveaways that just reward players for playing the game. They also managed to catch up on over 2 years of missing content in a matter of like 3 months because they actually gave a shit.

Every time I see a cool looking Korean game on the horizon, I can't even look forward to its release in NA/Europe because I know it'll be handed off to a publisher that's going to do what they always do. Milk the whales for a few months and then just abandon the game.
