Destiny - It still boggles my mind and saddens me that there's no 'Black Spindle' type secret

It still boggles my mind and saddens me that there's no 'Black Spindle' type secret

Or Sleeper Simulant. Or Outbreak Prime. Or hell, even No Time to Explain.

These were some of the most exciting times in the game and community. They filled the game with a sense of mystery and it seemed like it was obvious how much we loved it. Then nothing. I just don't get it.

edit: thank you for the gold, guardian!

Activision/Blizzard have to report their earnings very soon in their 4Q Quarterly Financials Report to investors. Keep a close eye on how much has been made on D2 sales, and in particular MTX sales (which will be listed seperately)

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 09:20 AM PST

For those unaware, last financial quarter ended September 30, 2017.

Activision Financials for Q3

Quoted from Activisions Q3 report:

  • Launched in September, Destiny 2 is the best‐selling console game year‐to‐date in the U.S.2 Digital mix was over 50% of console full game sell‐through, a new record for the company. In October, we introduced the Destiny franchise to PC gamers on Blizzard's Battle.net® platform, opening the franchise to new global audiences and future growth opportunities.

  • Activision and Bungie's Destiny 2 is well ahead of the highly engaging original Destiny on time spent per player and attach rate to the Expansion Pass

  • With the launch of the game on PC, Destiny 2 is now ahead of the original game in consumer spend.

Activision Earnings Investor Call 4:30PM ET

Updates from investor call/press release:

  • Revenue per player is highest ever on Destiny 2.

  • Question on e-Sports, lack of profits, and other games other than Overwatch. Answer sees similar structure of future revenue and profits as in professional sports. No mention of leagues other than Overwatch. Does not plan on announcing anything else right now.

How has total engagement for Destiny 2 compared to Destiny 1?

We are very happy with the performance of Destiny 2 thus far...improved on all other important metrics: Consumer spend, hours per player reached new franchise record, and revenue per user. High attachment rate to expansion pass. We know our fans wanted a game with a great engaging story, great characters, and great accessibility overall and we delivered. We know our players are hungry for more. We have multiple AAA teams (not just Bungie) working on content with Destiny. We expect PC launch will open up new geographies to Destiny 2. Higher engagement and time spent per player than Destiny 1.

TL;DR: We are coming up on the Q4 quarterly financials report, and it'll have figures relating to everything Destiny 2 for a very accurate understanding on how much has been made via sales, and more importantly, Eververse MTX sales.

According to NASDAQ, they estimate to release Q4 report on February 8th, 2018

Guided Games are a complete joke

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 12:40 AM PST

Hi all, just had a very unfortunate experience with the guided games function. I was looking for nightfall, waited 30 minutes for queue to pop. What I was greeted with was 2 members not in voice chat, that's fine, no problem, but as we entered the instance, things got very weird. They kept dying over and over again, and not just being bad, but intentionally just letting things kill them. One would die, the other would raise, then go kill themself. This repeated the entire run.

I had to clear the first part by myself, once that was finished they moved on with me, just to repeat the deaths on the next area. I tried typing to them in chat, asking what they were doing, just to get a reply of " :D " They legit were just trolling me the entire run. I had to clear every single area by myself, and just watching them die over and over again. I got fed up with doing this. If I wanted to do it this way, I would have just solo'd it. Needless to say after wasting 10 minutes watching them die over and over and not kill a single thing, I left the Nightfall.

The messed up part is I got the oath breaker debuff, for actually trying my hardest. Nightfall should just have normal match making, it's not difficult at all, it doesn't need voice communication, it just needs players that actually try.

edit: This was my first attempt at trying guided games :(

edit2: Wow this blew up. Just to clarify, the joke about it is; how i got punished for trying my hardest and nothing will happen to the trolls. I understand it was one experience with it, one bad experience, but the fact that I get punished for trying is ridiculous.

I don't want to play Inverted Spire three times in a row.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 06:01 AM PST

I logged in last night to do some reset stuff and decided to hop into the Heroic Strike playlist to do my weekly three for the Milestone.

I load into the first strike and it's Inverted Spire. We finish it in about 15 minutes and I wait for the game to load up the second one, it's also Inverted Spire. Another 15 minutes go by and I'm ready to start the third one. Guess what? It's Inverted Spire.

I know Destiny 2 has a lot of major issues right now and many of them do not have simple or obvious fixes. This seems like an easy one. Please do something because playing the same strike three times in a row is not fun.

After going back and rewatching the promo videos leading up to D2; I must say Bravo, Bungie. You know how to make less seem like more.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:06 AM PST

Take the IGN First series for example. Luke and Mark made the game seem like it was going to be so different than the game that we got.

Essentially they used our hype (and preorders of course) for a bigger and better game to sell this shallow, uncooked product that we call D2.

To the people you spend silver on bright engrams, note that there is a chance that your well spent emotes, ships, sparrows etc, won't be brought forward to a possible Destiny 3.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 05:11 AM PST

I'm not ashamed to say I bought some silver during Destiny 1, but I did learn my lesson

Edit: bad English, sorry

Edit2: to the people telling me I should expect this. It is a reason I posted this, not all people are aware that this might be the case. And I write "might" in case Bungie will allow it to transfer.

Not everybody knows how these games work and it is not given that they should either

Market one week of auto matchmaking in Nightfall as an event and test it out.

What's is there to lose? The Guided Games experience is really not panning out for most. Call it the "week of the stranger" or some lore filled title and see how it pans out? :)

It's basically sins of the past with faster reload but lower blast radius. So, great for PvE. If you're new to the game, this rocket will help you through all endgame activities, and is top tier dps.

Grab it if you never got it.

Remove emblem inventory in character menu and let us browse and equip all emblems as we please

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 08:48 AM PST

I don't like the idea of only being able to equip 1 emblem and hold an additional 9. So here's my suggestion with more detail:

1) Add an emblem showcase to let players include 5 of their favorite emblems that other players can see. A certain showcase may consist of these 5 emblems

  1. Completing the Leviathan Raid on Prestige

  2. Completing the Eater of Worlds Raid Lair on Prestige

  3. Achieving Flawless Victory in Trials of the Nine

  4. Completing the Nightfall Strike on Prestige

  5. And maybe a promotional emblem you got from attending an event

2) We can go a bit further by removing the emblem collection in the vault and move it to the character menu and create a new tab for it called "Cosmetics"

  1. This means we no longer have to go to the Tower/Farm to pick up emblems from the vault

  2. We can browse all the emblems we ever earned just from opening the character menu

  3. This can create more opportunities to streamline personalization for emblems, auras, emotes, sparrows, and ships

3) The same can probably be done for emotes. Remove emote inventory and move it to the "Cosmetics" tab. I know Bungie is working on an emote wheel so I'm excited what other changes to emotes it will bring.

Taking away Mayhem after the dawning will only make the situation of the game worse

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 10:11 AM PST

Since the Dawning came out, I have been playing Mayhem non-stop. It is the most fun I have had in the game since D1, and I am sure I am not alone. Taking it away as a seasonal playlist would probably make your playerbase even more angry, and we would see a mass exodus from the game.

Please Bungie. Be smart and let us have one fun thing. Crucible at the moment is bland and stale, outside of Mayhem. Let us get that sweet taste of space magic again.

TLDR: Keep Mayhem after the dawning goes away as a permanent playlist, no harm will come in doing so.

Bungie, Why You Return Me to Orbit After Every Competitive Match?

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 08:07 AM PST

I should clarify... returns to orbit, and is NOT matchmaking.

I don't understand why this is a thing. I need to grind out some wins for the ornament, and after every match it returns me to orbit. I never play Competitive anyway, this is one of those very frustrating reasons not to bother, as if it doesn't even want me to play! Totally kills the flow. Just like every other activity, just get started on finding me another game already, unless I back out.

EDIT: Suggestion... you know, don't automatically return us to orbit with matchmaking cancelled, please?

EDIT2: While this is getting traction, I think we all here agree that running strikes should STOP resetting the matchmaking process between strikes. Keep it the way D1 did it, it made for an unspoken camaraderie & team appreciation that is now completely absent. If we don't like who we just ran with, we'll back out and jump in again.

Ikora has had an indicator over her head for 3 weeks now, but every time I go to talk to her she doesn't even say "hello" or ask "how my day was". Every reset I pray that it's somehow fixed, but I land in the tower every time and go talk to her only to realize it's still bugged and she has nothing for me.

Give Amanda Holliday the ability to remove a transmat effect from a ship and add it back to your inventory.

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 07:04 PM PST

This would make her relevant in the Tower, and you could transfer a hard-to-get transmat effect from one ship to another.

Bungie lost sectors are a joke. Turn them into something exciting by buffing them all around.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 10:18 AM PST

Make them drop better drops and have a higher chance for exotics. Then buff everyone inside of there so it's an actual challenge. Right now it's just a room with trash mobs and trash drops. An alternative is have a chance for the lost sector to be heroic. Right now they are just taking space for no reason.

You have your choice of subclasses, 2 of them being amazing, and you still choose the lesser one. Ballsy.

🎶 Look at the size of them. 🎶

While every other Hunter is firing flaming sniper bullets or being anti-fun, you know what it means to get up close and personal.

🎶 Taste the steel right upside your face. 🎶

Golden Gun? Too easy. Shadowshot? Screw that. Arc Staff and it's blue luminescence is all you need.

🎶 It's so pretty. Oh God he's getting closer. Please heeeelp me. 🎶

Massive Breakdown of the Season 2 Trials of the Nine Weapons

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:45 AM PST

If you're wondering where the numbers and full list of guns are, the Weapon Stats Spreadsheet has you covered.

Several things to note:

  • This breakdown is for Season 2 Trials of the Nine weapons only.

  • Classes are broken down into Impact sub-classes.

  • These are strictly my opinions, so I'm very aware that a lot of people will probably disagree with them.

  • The Bolded Perk/Perks in each slot mean that I recommend using them. If there are no bolded perks, it means that I feel any of the listed perks are fine to use in the slot.

  • All Times-to-Kill are assuming Guardian has 200hp (9 Resiliency).

  • Pros and Cons are determined by comparing weapons within the same class, not by all weapons in general, and not by only the weapons within the archetype. If you would like a different or more specific comparison than what I have listed, feel free to ask and I can provide one in the comments.

Auto Rifles

Adaptive

The Last Breath - Kinetic

Pros - Very high handling. High aim assist, stability, and reload speed.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Below average range and mag size. Very low recoil direction.

  • Time-to-Kill: 1.10s (11 crit 1 body ), 1.50s (16 body)
  • Rate of Fire: 600
  • Impact: 21 (17 crit, 13 body)
  • Range: 48
  • Stability: 49
  • Reload Speed: 56
  • Handling: 70
  • Mag Size: 43
  • Recoil Direction: 56
  • Aim Assist: 67

Perks:

  • Sights/Barrels - Extended Barrel, Full Bore, Chambered Compensator
  • Magazine - Slideshot, Dynamic Sway Reduction
  • Set Perk - Ambitious Assassin

As I've said in previous posts, I actually very much enjoy the 600 RPM AR archetype, and The Last Breath is no exception, even if the perks aren't quite as nice as I'd like them to be. Ambitious Assassin is borderline useless in PvP, but Dynamic Sway Reduction (D2's version of Persistence) is pretty decent, and I think actually a little underrated (it boosts accuracy as you maintain fire). Slideshot is just okay in general, but it's a little more worthwhile on this gun considering one of the only main drawbacks is the low range. But, let's be real here, you shouldn't be trying to compete with Uriels at distance with this archetype. Your best bet is to sit between sidearm/SMG range and pulse/precision AR range, because that's the sweet spot for this weapon. You more than likely will want to rock one or two Kinetic Counterbalance mods to even out the other drawback, which is horrendous recoil direction. As for the other stats, handling is exceptional, and aim assist, stability, and reload speed are all best, or near best-in-class, so you shouldn't hesitate to give this weapon a shot.

Pulse Rifles

Rapid-Fire

Darkest Before - Energy

Pros - High recoil direction and aim assist. Above average mag size.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Below average range, reload speed, and handling. Low stability.

  • Time-to-Kill: 1.13s (4 bursts, 9 crit 3 body), 1.67s (5.33 bursts, 16 body)
  • Rate of Fire: 540
  • Impact: 23 (18 crit, 13 body)
  • Range: 41
  • Stability: 53
  • Reload Speed: 42
  • Handling: 34
  • Mag Size: 36
  • Recoil Direction: 70
  • Aim Assist: 75

Perks:

  • Sights/Barrels - Arrowhead Brake, Hammer-Forged Rifling, Smallbore
  • Magazine - Slideshot, Quickdraw
  • Set Perk - Full Auto

Anybody who has been following me since early D2 knows that I love me some Rapid-Fire pulses. Lincoln Green was my first love, but Heart of Time and Time Worn Spire soon joined the ranks. Now, we have the wonderful Darkest Before to add to the collection. Stat-wise, this thing is hands down the best option in it's archetype, boasting the best recoil direction, range, reload speed, and handling, the second best stability, and third best aim assist out of the five weapons available. Then, on top of that, the perks are straight up geared to help the weaknesses inherent to the archetype, with barrel perks that can increase range and stability, Slideshot, which does the same after sliding, and Full Auto, which means you won't get finger cramps trying to keep up with the blazingly fast RoF. Overall, highly recommend this weapon if you're looking for something outside that meta that remains competitive at higher levels of gameplay. I will caution you, the only draw back to this gun is that the damage drop off comes up on you fast. You'll be engaging most of the time at prime Uriel's ranges, but your optimal TtK is faster by a couple frames and the weapon is forgiving, only requiring 9 crits and 3 body shots to kill. If you hit a single headshot, you can kill with 5 bursts in 1.47s, which is amazingly fast for a weapon outside of the SMG/sidearm classes.

Hand Cannons

Precision

A Cold Sweat - Energy

Pros - Very high stability. High recoil direction. Above average aim assist.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Below average range, reload speed, handling, and mag size.

  • Time-to-Kill: 1.33s (3 crit 2 body), 2.00s (7 body)
  • Rate of Fire: 180
  • Impact: 78 (47 crit, 32 body)
  • Range: 44
  • Stability: 67
  • Reload Speed: 37
  • Handling: 42
  • Mag Size: 9
  • Recoil Direction: 95
  • Aim Assist: 75

Perks:

  • Sights/Barrels - Fastdraw HCS, Crossfire HCS, Sureshot HCS
  • Magazine - Slideways, Outlaw
  • Set Perk - Graverobber

Unfortunately the only one of the new Season 2 Trials weapons that I am not a fan of. Point blank, this archetype feels great to play with, I'll give them that, that is until you look at the actual damage dealt. Every weapon I've tested from this archetype seems to be accurate, with controllable recoil, but they just take so many shots to kill I don't feel they're worth using in any type of competitive PvP scenario. On top of the Graverobber is a bottom tier PvP perk, and Outlaw doesn't help much when you're spamming the trigger just trying to kill someone before they burn through you with an AR (or literally any meta or near-meta weapon). Going to have to offer a pass on this one for any non-casual style of play. If you do feel like becoming a masochist, unfortunately this weapon isn't even the best in its archetype, offering a lowly 9 rounds in the mag and below average range. I'd have to recommend West of Sunfall over this gun in most situations.

Scout Rifles

Lightweight

Purpose - Kinetic

Pros - Very high handling and mag size. High stability, reload speed, and aim assist.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Low range.

  • Time-to-Kill: 1.20s (4 crit 1 body), 1.80s (7 body)
  • Rate of Fire: 200
  • Impact: 60 (44 crit, 29 body)
  • Range: 42
  • Stability: 50
  • Reload Speed: 60
  • Handling: 72
  • Mag Size: 16
  • Aim Assist: 72

Perks:

  • Sights/Barrels - Extended Barrel, Smallbore, Fluted Barrel
  • Magazine - Slideshot, Hip-Fire Grip
  • Set Perk - Explosive Payload

Very high on this weapon. MIDA archetype, with Explosive Payload, it's like the Manannan but so much sexier, and literally better in every way across the board. Legitimately, not just for the archetype but for the entire scout rifle class, this weapon is near the top of each stat column. Very high handling and mag size, high stability, reload speed and aim assist, truly the only drawback to this weapon is the low range, but that can be made up for slightly with barrel perks, and most of the maps don't offer sightlines long enough to be bothered anyways. For a little extra boost to range and stability you can run Slideshot, or you can abuse the fact that somehow this archetype of weapon is actually pretty easy to hip-fire up close, and run Hip-Fire Grip to further enhance it. Either way, if you're tired of MIDA sitting in your exotic slot, I think this may well be the perfect substitute. Definitely worth hunting for!

Have a Happy New Year, guardians.

Destiny 2's Engrams are useless.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 01:58 AM PST

In Destiny 2 Engrams changed a lot, one of the changes was normalizing them so they share one large loot pool. The normalization was most likely due to the removal of random rolls, at launch there was even less loot to earn and having a helmet engram only offer 5 different helmets with set rolls wouldn't be all that cool. Bungie also didn't want people hoarding engrams for expansions so they made them drop with unchangeable power levels. Now engrams don't do anything other than get decrypted into random gear. Only problem is decrypting them offers you nothing but a trip to the tower, and with only 10 slots you'll be headed there a lot.

There's no Cryptarch rank, or rewards for opening engrams so why have them? If my engrams don't raise in power level the longer I keep them or give me rewards for decryption, what use do they have? Why don't they just drop as gear directly from chests? Sure you get "cryptarch shaders" from decryption but those could just drop along side gear from chests.

If engrams are going to have a purpose besides slowing down gameplay/being a nuisance, we're going to need something that makes them different from normal drops. Since the return of increasing power level for engrams seems highly unlikely, Cryptarch rank makes the most sense. Even if it were something like every 50 decryptions you get a rank up which would reward an extra engrams, it would still be better than the current system. Maybe have one rank up required 25 decryptions and every 10th rank rewards a masterwork engram. Just to name an acceptable change. But literally any addition would be better than what we currently have

TL;DR, Right now engrams are just gear that requires going to the tower to collect.
