How the Eververse Stole Christmas

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 06:30 AM PST

edit 2: Thanks for the gold!
Merry Me, Amanda?

Every guardian in the tower liked The Dawning a lot...
But the Tess, who lived central Tower, did NOT!

Everis hated the Dawning! The whole Dawning season!
Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.

It could be her hair was not cut just right.
It could be, perhaps, that her skin was too light.

But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that her purse was two sizes too small.

Whatever the reason scheming under that awning,
She stood there on Dawning Eve, hating The Dawning,

Staring from her storefront with a sour, awoken frown,
At the transmatted guardians right in their town.

For she knew every guardian down Tower across,
Were busy now sorting their vault for a toss.

"And they're throwing snowballs!" she snarled with a sneer,
"Tomorrow is The Dawning! It's practically here!"

Then she growled, blue fingers nervously drumming,
"I MUST find some way to stop The Dawning from coming!"

For Tomorrow, she knew, all the guardian girls and boys,
Would wake bright and early. They'd rush for their toys!

And then! Oh, the loot! Oh, the loot!
Loot! Loot! Loot!
That's one thing she hated! The LOOT!
LOOT! LOOT! LOOT!

Then the Voidwalkers, young and old, would mayhem their novas.
And they'd nova! And they'd nova! And they'd NOVA!
NOVA! NOVA! NOVA!

They would novabomb all day, until the loot is released.
Which was something Tess Everis couldn't stand in the least!

And THEN They'd do something she liked least of all!
Every guardian in town, the tall and the small,

Would stand close together, with Dawning bells ringing.
They'd stand hand-in-hand. And start dancing and singing!

They'd dance! And they'd dance! And they'd DANCE!
DANCE! DANCE! DANCE!

And the more the Everis thought of un-dust paid dancing,
The more that she thought, "I must stop this whole thing!"

"Why, for fifty-three years I've put up with it now!"
"I MUST stop this Dawning from coming! But HOW?"

Then she got an idea! An awful idea!
THE TESS GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!

"I know just what to do!" The Tess laughed in her throat.
And she made Eververse and stocked it with bloat.

And she chuckled, and clucked, "What a great Tessy trick!"
"With this Eververse loot, I look just like Saint Nick!"

"All I need is good loot..." The Tess looked around.
But, since good loot is scarce, there was none to be found.

Did that stop the old Tess? No! The Tess simply said,
"I'll take all the good loot from the endgame instead!"

So she summoned her blue sparrow and shaded it gold.
"I bet they won't even notice this sparrow is old!"

THEN she loaded some engrams and level ten gear,
On her reskinned sparrow named Holiday Cheer.

Then the Tess said, "Giddap!" her intentions to assault,
All the heartbroken guardians destroyed Gary their vault.

All their windows were dark. Quiet snow filled the air.
All guardians were all dreaming sweet dreams of new lair.
When she came to the first little house on the square.

"This is stop number one," Tess Everis hissed,
And she looked in the window, silver dust shards in her fist.

Ready to take them for more or for less
But, if Oryx could do it, then so could the Tess.

She saw few rooms over the glow of a light,
The tennants appeared entertained a Fortnite.

"I'll make them pay for it and cleverly so.
"This raid loot," she grinned, "is the first thing to go!"

Then she slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant,
Around the whole room, she took their endgame presents!

Intellect! Discipline! Strength! T12! RNG!
Primary! Secondary! Heavy! G&H! LMG!

And she stuffed them in bags. Then the Tess, very nimbly,
Stuffed all the bags, "Now in engrams they'll be!"

Now passing the station where playlists would tumble,
She took from that list their beloved game, rumble!

She cleaned out the playlists so quick and so fast,
"Their free-for-all playlist will now be in the past!"

Then she sparrowed away on her speeder with glee.
"And NOW!" grinned miss Tess, "I will charge them a fee!"

And Tess stocked her shelves without worry or halt,
Until next day she heard of the DTG salt.

She turned around fast and saw such a crowd,
But ingored their complaints no matter how loud.

Activision Bungie Tess had been caught quite red handed,
Explanations of why the community demanded.

They stared at the Tess and said, "Blue lady, why,"
"Why are you taking our endgame fun? WHY?"

But, you know, smooth tongue Tess was so smart and so slick,
She thought up a lie, and she thought it up quick!

"Why, my sweet guardians," said Tess with reply,
"There's not enough reason to get you to buy."

"So I'm making the endgame better, my dear."
"So you won't have to play there, I'll fix it up here!"

And her free gift exotic fooled all of that lot.
"Though something felt missing," the community thought.

And when all the guardians entered the raid,
"This loot table is missing some things, I'm afraid."

To sweeten her pot she took random gun roll,
"I can charge them for mods and they'll pay me a toll.
"But something's still missing. A purpose a goal."

So she looked at all other things she could claim,
And add to her store with the Eververse name.

Her motive to make all players bump to a wall,
And make all the players a filthy casual.

She thought of a new and splendid technique,
So she made all the levels of experience leak.
Packed her store with the ghosts! The shaders! The Ships!
The armor! The consumables! The buffs! The Ornaments!

She lined them all up for the chumps to obtain,
But limited their engrams to three they can claim.

"GG to the players!" she was greedily humming.
"They're finding out now to my store they're coming!"
"They're just walking up! I know just what they'll do!"
"They'll buy up a package of silver or two!"
"Then bean counter suit-men will all shout WooHoo!"

"That's a noise," grinned miss Tess, "That I simply MUST hear!"
So she paused. And the Tess put her hand to her ear.

And she did hear a sound ringing out through snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow.

But the sound wasn't money! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!

She stared out the Tower! Miss Tess popped her eyes!
Then she shook! What she saw was a shocking surprise!

Every guardian there present, the tall and the small,
Was dancing! Without micro-transactions at all!

She HADN'T stopped veterans playing! THEY PLAYED!
Somehow or other, they played just the same!

And Tess, with her loot shone bright in her store,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How can they play more?"
"It came without rolls! It came without perks!"
"It came without interest, what's wrong with these jerks!?"

And she puzzled three hours, till her puzzler was sore.
Then Tess thought of something she hadn't before!

"Maybe the Dawning," she thought, "doesn't come from a store."
"Maybe the Dawning...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

And what happened then? Well...in The Tower they say,
That Tess' generosity grew three sizes that day!

And the minute her heart didn't feel quite so tight,
She thought of a way to balance things right.

She put up her loot in public events to do,
Produced for us, us Guardians, 2 tokens, 1 blue!

Bungie: You spent time and effort creating tanks for a couple of campaign missions. Where are these vehicles in the end game??

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:41 AM PST

The tank levels were a great change of pace to the game. I was excited to see this variation in the campaign.

But where are these vehicles in the end game? Why don't we have random vehicles transmatted during heroic public events or during strikes?

We see these in a few missions and then never gain.

Destiny used to be a universe, now it's becoming (became) "just another game".

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:33 PM PST

I've been reading through the grimoire again, reliving the dark path of Dredgen Yor and deciphering the Hive's nightmare sword-logic through the Books of Sorrow. And it's the most fun I've had since the first week of Destiny 2 when everything was new and innocent.

Before the release, Bungie said that they were going to remove the Grimoire and put the story in the game itself, but the story in the game is so limited. The Cabal came for the light, they got the light, we got it back too (how convenient!) and we kicked the Cabal's ass. But that's it. We have virtually no understanding of what happened when Ghaul got all molten with Light and the Traveler woke up, just that it did. In Destiny 1, there were still questions, but the Grimoire offered the answers.

The "new" Grimoire, the investigatable objects in the world of Destiny 2, were mostly there to remind us that Destiny 1 happened, but a lot of people are arguing that in Destiny 2, we ignore completely what happened in the first one, and those people are right. For example, we have no more "factions" of enemies such as the Dust Giants of the Cabal or the Spawn of Crota of the Hive. The Hive are Hive and Cabal are Red Leigon. The only one that makes sense is the integration of all other Fallen Houses into the House of Kings, because we kind of annihilated everyone else's chain of command.

Another problem that's been coming up recently is the dialogue. There are too many characters that are there for the sole purpose of comedic relief and have no backstory. Destiny 1 had interesting backstory of every single character that appeared, but not in Destiny 2. Asher Mir is a crotchety old man with a vex arm and a stereotypical "you dim witted ignoramus!" personality. Brother Vance, who, in Destiny 1, was an interesting character who followed a mysterious Guardian, is now a stereotypical blubbering religious acolyte.

And then there's the microtransactions. I don't think I need to say anything more about that.

Finally is the Exotic gear. Exotics nowadays are nowhere near as powerful or exciting as Destiny 1 Exotics, except for maybe the Colony, which is bound to get nerfed eventually. Back in the days of Destiny 1, a lot of Exotics were obtainable only by quest, and obtaining them was fun. Now it's just handing in Exotic engram after Exotic engram hoping you don't get your fifth [insert recurring Exotic here] in a row. Personally, all I do for Exotics now is wait for Xur to sell his Fated Engram, I have lost all fun and interest in obtaining what used to be the best weapons in the game.

All we can hope for now is for Bungie to actually start listening as they've said so many times already, and re-implement what made the first Destiny great. Which in my opinion, is Grimoire, strong weapons, actual choice in what abilities you have, and an actual possibility in getting Eververse gear. The new Dawning Sparrow that is ONLY achieveable by purchase with real money is a step in the wrong direction.

We already had one EA crisis, I sincerely don't want the company that made the Halo series to go the same path, but it's looking like that's exactly the kick in the pants Bungie needs right now.

Tl;dr: Destiny 2 has forgotten what it came from and it's hurting badly. Eververse is further injuring it, so are bland, stereotypical characters and a serious lack of anything interesting.

I apologize for the length and inconsistency, this is really more of a rant than anything. I just feel it needs to be made aware (if it hasn't already, somehow) that Destiny 2 has some serious problems which need to be fixed.

The thing I hate most about about the game is not eververse.

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:40 AM PST

I hate the dialog. The voice acting. It's all just so wrong. It's like every line is forced but it's not even the voice actors. Just the lines. "Guess what WE did?" Or "Cayde, have anything to add?" Totally takes me out the game and makes me wonder why I am even playing it. The dialog is absolutely horrible. It's like it's directed at an 11 year old who constantly needs humor to keep attention...

I'm a grown man. I played destiny 1 and loved how dark the hive were. I loved the first time I went into hellmouth alone. I love when I went to the dreadnaught. Everything was so dark and the urgency that created was better than whatever you call this that we have now. Now it's just all a joke. There's no urgency. There are lots of attempts at one liners. Most of them fail to hit the mark.

The best dialog from any character in this game comes from our speechless neutered guardian.

186 items in Eververse...

CoS Gaming going in-depth with just how much the eververse costs, the time it would take to get every item per season by grinding, and approximately how much it would cost out of pocket. It's 13 minutes, but very informative... And frustrating.

Entering Ward of Dawn should recharge all teammates abilities. Or at least fast reducing all cooldowns while inside the bubble.

Something like abilities recharge 50% inside WoD.
Anything to be able to play as a fellow bubblebro again without being dead weight for my team.

You're A Mean One, Eververse (Credit to Dr. Seuss)

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 09:22 AM PST

You're a mean one, Eververse
You are the devil's spawn of Bungie
You shaft us with two tokens, you give us only one blue, Eververse
You ruin our game with tasteless RNG!

You're a monster, Eververse
Give us back the loot you stole
Your head's full of Colony spiders, your eyes blinded by Osiris' lens, Eververse
I wouldn't touch you with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot Coldheart!

You're a foul one, Eververse
You have Silver in your smile
You have all the tender sweetness of a repugnant war beast, Eververse
Given a choice between the two of you I'd take the repugnant war beast!

You're a vile one, Eververse
You're an evil, cheap, shot
Your heart is full of micro-transactions, your soul is full of dust, Eververse
The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote
"Cash, cash, cash"!

You're a rotter, Eververse
You're the king of unfair costs
Your heart's a broken sparrow splotched with moldy purple spots, Eververse
Your soul is an appalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful
Assortment of engrams imaginable mangled up in tangled up knots!

You nauseate me, Eververse
With a nauseous super "Fenchurch"!
You're a crooked dirty vendor, and you drive a crooked shop, Eververse
You're a three decker disappointment and money pile sandwich with appalling bad content sauce!

Credit goes to Dr. Seuss. Hope you liked it!

Spinfoil-Hat Theory: Bungie removed perks from armor and dumbed down other aspects to make Eververse seem more appealing and keep their promise of "Not being pay-to-win"

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 10:55 AM PST

Think about it, there's no reason to get rid of armor perks. All of it is deliberate. They intentionally make the earnable loot easy to obtain and largely all the same. Doing so devalues that loot. Then the eververse loot which is rarer and more time consuming to obtain gains increased value. They've very deliberately flipped the inherent value of items from destiny 1. Amour does nothing, all guns feel the same, power means nothing.

The cosmetic EV stuff was cool but definitely not what people were striving for. How do they make the stuff jammed behind micro transactions be more desirable so people will spend more without gating progression or getting accused of having a pay to win model? By intentionally dropping the desirability of all the other stuff.

"Enjoy the festivities"

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 08:15 AM PST

Is Eververse really the problem or is it the lackluster gear and lackluster activities outside of Eververse?

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 10:56 AM PST

I feel like Eververse wouldn't be a problem if the gear was more desirable outside the shop. It is without a doubt that Eververse has some of the best looking stuff. It's a business strategy, put all the best looking stuff in the store to encourage players to "grind" for the illuminated engrams and when the player realize that method doesnt work make them pay out of pockect. With the exception of some trials and iron banner stuff the gear you earn in game isn't really appealing. Especially within the raid which is the biggest event that can happen in Destiny. Not to mention the ornaments which doesn't do the gear any justice cosmetically. It's literally the same gear with a not so impressive glow effect.

Gear aside what about those unique items like exotic ghost shells, Ships, and sparrows? Those are not attainable anywhere else besides Eververse which is another reason most players are displeased. In destiny 1 bungie made it clear that in order to have the best looking gear and weapons you had to grind for them in certain activities like raids, crucible, strikes, trials. How can they not follow their own ideals? You had vanguard shells that vanguard activities would give you, same with crucible and trials, raid specific ships and sparrows and ornaments. Heck the freakin strike specific gear was worth going for! It baffles me to this day why bungie gave up those things that worked! I didn't ask them to take it out did You?

Eververse is probably not going anywhere, there's no way bungie would take out that whole system when it's making them money. It's clear where their efforts go because they made it so blatantly obvious! In destiny 1 at least for me tess was just another vendor but now she is the emphasizes of the whole game. Put it back to the way it was in Destiny 1 just make her less relevant and make playing the game actually worth it. It's cool that tess has her own unique style and the players who really want it will gladly pay but don't degrade or cut other gear from other activities.

Refill All Ammo between Raid Wipes

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 09:58 PM PST

When Bungie said that we'd die a lot in the raid I didn't think it was going to be due to having to wipe due to ammo runs every other round. Can we just be given full ammo whenever we start a new phase of a raid? Its not like players don't wipe and do ammo runs like we're already doing, it just artificially adds more time and there is almost always that one person that doesn't get power ammo.

Plus in the raid lair is it too much to ask for a lip so that ammo and orbs don't roll off the map whenever they fall?

Aiming down sights with burst sidearms is less accurate than hipfire

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 02:51 AM PST

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not. I was messing about in patrol and happened to notice that the tri shot side arms mostly don't hit where you aim if aiming down the sights, and are entirely more accurate with hipfire. I tried out all the sights as well and there wasn't any difference.

Video showcasing Traveler's Judgement 5 and Last Hope.

I'd always thought there was something wrong with the ADS but never gave it much thought. Advice to take away from this; don't ADS with the burst sidearms.

Edit note: Bungo pls don't nerf the hipfire

My idea of how shader storage should be handled (Picture included)

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 02:50 AM PST

this is a quick edit of how i think bungie should change the shader storage (sorry for the bad edit skills i don't know how to use Photoshop very well) and i am welcoming all feedback on how this concept could be change and improved

https://imgur.com/a/2WD2Y

WORLD -World shaders are shaders that one can earn in destiny ranging from the ones you get from Devrim to the ones acquired for calus

ALLEGIANCE -Allegiance shaders are ones earned from faction rallies, iron banner, trials and so on

DLC -DLC sharders are you guessed it shaders from DLC

EVENT -Event shaders are shaders earned from event like the dawning and festival of the lost

Destiny could've been one of the best games of the last few years.. If it was not for their DLC system/ Perks and content.

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 04:44 AM PST

I know generally, people dislike rants about their favourite games but hear me out if you will.

I got to borrow Destiny 2 from a friend for 2 weeks while he went on holiday. He's been trying to get me to play Destiny 2 like he tried to get me into regular Destiny aswell. Regular Destiny had one huge flaw for me.. The content. How did a game based on , looting, leveling, grinding only had 20 levels? Why was the story cut short? BUt when the DLC arrived I understood why. Rise of Iron was maybe okay as DLC, the other DLC's were just part of the game that was cut out. The other DLC's belonged in the base game. I really felt that way during playing the game. But after Rise of Iron, Destiny still had it flaws but was an overall great game. You just needed 3 DLC's in order to make it one.

Then came Destiny 2 and I heard they'd put more content in it. They 'listened' to fans. Marketing had me hyped, I download the demo and saw that level 20 was the cap again. The gameplay was so much better, but the same thing happened again. Their DLC's are not to add on to their game, they are to finish their games. The worst DLC system I have personally witnissed. A game that works with grinding, leveling and lotting needs more content! The base game right now is basically just a longer shooter campaign.

The perks aren't done that well. Both in Destiny and Destiny 2 I never felt like changing my perks made a huge difference in gameplay. Maybe because it aren't that many or they aren't that different. Picking up a different class never felt really different aswell. It could be that I suck so bad that I can't see the differences, but I do okay on multiplayer and PvE so I just feel like the classes don't have too much differences. Don't be scared to lock certain guns out for certain classes to add to the gameplay. If you want the Titan to get into the fight, don't give him snipers. If you want the Hunter to stay out of the fight don't give her shotguns.

These are exactly the same problems I had with Destiny. I don't feel like Destiny 2 changed the IP at it's core at all. I think alot of the issues I state here can be traced back to: Money, money, money. Which is weird because I never really felt that way with Bungie at Halo. But hey, it could just be me. But I see the potential of the game, it could be such an amazing game that I'd happily pay 60 bucks for. The problem is that it feels like a cashgrab to me, and there aren't many people that'd buy a game that feels like a cashgrab to them. If I saw some of the passion that I always felt in Halo this could be so amazing. Or maybe Bungie isn't the right studio for the IP.

Weapons From Raid Tokens Do Not Have a Higher Chance to Roll Masterwork

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 12:35 PM PST

I've hoarded a bunch of raid tokens, 1050 to be exact, to do a massive turn in and see how the raid tokens fared in the new Masterwork System.

Unsurprisingly, given recent events, the tokens do not seem to get the increased chance for Masterworks like the true raid drops do. After using up all of my tokens, I was left with 30 armor pieces, and 22 weapons. Out of those, 0 were Masterworked.

This is extra disappointing, since the new Raid Lair offers the same tokens as consolation prize for no loot. So, they can't be used to acquire new gear, or get Masterwork cores. All in all, pretty damn useless.

Mayhem has decided it for me , power ammo should drop when I defeat an enemy in normal crucible

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 05:39 PM PST

If I am able to defeat that one guy with power ammo I think I should be rewarded with that ammo , they played poorly with the ammo and therefore I get to turn the match in my favour or at least the next two kills.

I don't think this would break crucible but actually make it worthwhile to challenge an opponent with power ammo instead of the , well i need to run because my auto rifle ain't killing him before he can slide into me with a shottie .

This would make trials way more interesting also if I kill that guy with power if I'm last man standing I could dare I say it make a play on the other team instead of being team shot by 4 Midas/uriels

EDIT 1 : I am not saying any kill in crucible should drop heavy , i am saying that those who have picked up heavy and are then defeated whilst still having ammo should drop a brick of that power ammo to the person who defeated them to pick up (like mahem currently works) just added bit of clarity as some are just reading the title and not the text.
