Dead by Daylight Community feedback, State of the subreddit and user flairs

Community feedback, State of the subreddit and user flairs

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 03:04 PM PST

Hello people of the fog!

The past two weeks have been quite busy for all of us. Between the sudden release of the highly anticipated Wraith Update and the fight for double bloodpoints during the Winter Solstice event, two particular incidents occured that enraged the subreddit community and caused an uproar. Today, we want to address these issues, talk about some minor changes and, once again, ask for your feedback.

Monitor And Abuse

Starting with the elephant in the room, Thoughtful Thursday. I won't waste my time here and try to explain why things happened the way they did - this has been beaten to death already and won't change anything. Instead, we want to focus on the future and work together with the community to find a solution that pleases both parties involved.

We heard you. We know why Thursday is important to shitposters. We understand it. We acknowledge your negative feedback. However, we want you to be more open-minded in return and think about the people who do not enjoy shitposts. For them, Thursday is just as important as it is for you because it's the only day of the week where it's almost guaranteed that we receive new information about upcoming changes to the game. It's the day to share your opinion, give constructive feedback and make sure the developers hear you. It's an important day for everyone, but while people can enjoy their shitposts for almost an entire week, subscribers who do not like them are dependent on a more than suboptimal filter system that doesn't even work for mobile users.

Taking the full picture into consideration, Thoughtful Thursday will remain unchanged for the time being (and whoever doesn't know what this means gets a temp ban i2g). We want to keep the dialogue going and we're open to make changes based on the constructive feedback we receive. Talk to us. Share your ideas. Just. Do. It! We cannot consider people's opinions if they do not voice them. Some people actually admitted they didn't bother to give us feedback when we asked for it because they thought we wouldn't make any big changes, then Thoughtful Thursday was a thing and they cried out loud. Others preferred to come up with the craziest conspiracy theories rather than sharing their thoughts and presenting a possible solution. This is not how it works and you need to understand that giving constructive feedback and being civil will be more helpful for you and your goals than throwing insults and accusations around. We are willing to listen to you and change things based on what you say, but that heavily depends on how you talk to us.

Decisive Strike

As a result of last week's incidents, including the complaints about our lack of communication with the subreddit community, we want to suggest a monthly "State of the Subreddit" thread (switching to fortnightly if necessary) to discuss controversial topics with you, ask for your feedback and gather suggestions, ideas and wishes. We could also include some "Bloody Stats - r/deadbydaylight Edition" (e.g. growth of the subreddit in the past 6 months, a Top 10 of this month's hottest topics) if you're interested in them, maybe do some polls, demographic surveys or AMA's and share the results next time - stuff like that. We're open to pretty much everything, we just need to know if you're interested in these things.

We would really appreciate your feedback about this or other suggestions how to improve the communication.

Quick and Quiet

I'm happy to announce that we updated the user flairs today! :) I overhauled existing flairs (sharpness, brightness), added the missing Prestige characters and made them available for your use. Also, you're now able to edit the flair text! Be creative and give us a good laugh, but please don't abuse this function for spoilers, insults or other stuff that's against our subreddit rules, otherwise we have to disable it again. I'm thinking of adding the rest of the head cosmetics (Headcase, Frosty Eyes etc), though the list of flairs could be a bit cluttered until we find a solution. If you don't mind a very long list to scroll through, I'll add them as soon as possible - just tell me what you think!

Furthermore, we have a new header for the current seasonal ingame event! I included the dates for the double bloodpoints in case someone missed the Dev Stream summary. Y'all did a pretty good job fighting for this, thank you!

Save the Best for Last

Merry Christmas, subscribers of r/DeadbyDaylight! Enjoy the holidays (and the presents!), cherish the time with your beloved ones and take care of yourself. <3

See you in the fog!

Solution to no mither

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 11:32 AM PST

--Don't display icon on killer side, continue to display survivor side

--Start at healthy, once you take a hit you CANNOT be healed back to healthy for the rest of the game.

--Treat user as always in injured state for perks.(possibly restrict to injured state flag for passive perks only when healthy to avoid dead hard giving a balance issue)

--Rest of no mither as normal.

It's a minor buff giving you a temporary one health state at the beginning of the match, and properly hides no mither so it might get used to fullest. Killer is unsure if survivor isn't healed to healthy because a) doesn't have self heal, b) hasn't come accross teammates to heal them, c) is running around as such for perk benefit or d) is running no mither. Ultimately the player is screwed if they are hit once similar to hex perks, once it's found it's removed.

It also maintains the flavor of the perk within game...after all, it is just a scratch...

Alternatively, if that for some reason is too big of a buff...remove the "Treat user as always in injured state for perks"

As much shit as we give the Killer experience, the feeling of hunting down a survivor by their noises, "footprints", bloodpools, and crows is something else.

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 08:14 AM PST

This is actually a really good hunting game for that. It's the only game I know of where you read tracks and shit like the Witcher, but they're caused dynamically by other players.

It's literally so good that I'll often take my time to break generators or pallets in chases, simply because I saw the general direction they were headed and they'll leave loads of clues in that area.

The icing on the cake is that Wraith, considered one of the worst Killers, has all perks that solely focus on enhancing this crucial part of the killer experience. Combined with Stridor from the Nurse, and a decent pair of headphones, you could probably successfully play the game staring at the ground the whole time (don't quote me on that).

And the best hunting mechanic of all is your ability to play as survivor, to learn how they think. "If I were at this generator and fucked up a skill check, where would I hide?" Unfortunately, I'm mentally ill so my survivor mentality isn't reliable, but you get the point.

I just found a closeted survivor by the pools of blood outside of it, for the first time. Speaking of which, the immense hunting potential can really let you tease survivors when you know where they are. I like to hesitate outside of lockers while staring at them, sometimes I'll saunter away then act like I changed my mind and came back.

Also, if you survivors didn't know, staying in one spot for too long will summon crows to fly around above you, or land on the locker if you're in one.

It can feel frustrating sometimes when you're a survivor and it feels like the killer knows exactly where you are, when in my experience that means the person is wallhacking or something. But my careless survivor ass just left a bright-orange trail of scratches leading straight to the locker I was hiding in.

This works both ways, too. The survivor experience gets shit for stealth not being a rewarding playstyle, but if you leave nothing for the Killer to track and you hide unpredictably, then you can go the whole game without the Killer seeing you. While a bit harder, this is still possible against the Doctor, if you look around to know where the closest lockers are and hide in one as soon as you see the madness meter.

TL;DR - Survivors get loopy business to fuck with me. I get knowledge of almost their every move to fuck with them.

New perk idea: No Slither

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 07:30 PM PST

Go on kid, it's just a flesh wound.

You start the trial in the dying state and won't let anyone heal you beyond this state. You instead move at normal sprinting speed while in the dying state and can work on generators and perform all other actions. Your grunts of pain are silent like a snake, but when moving you release a loud hissing noise that constantly alerts the killer to your location.

Edit: I honestly didn't think this would be as popular as it was so let me say that I didn't come up with the idea for this, I heard it from a twitch streamer named DiaTech, I only came up with the name.

Bare minimum Freddy buff that would make him so much more fun to play:

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:50 AM PST

Make survivors in the dream transition have the 50% action speed slowdown.

That solves one of Freddy's biggest issues right away, that being his inability to stop survivors from completing actions right in front of his face. Now the survivors can only do that if they're EXTREMELY close to being done; otherwise, they just get smacked for free.

This buff makes perfect sense in my honest opinion. Freddy needs more than that, but I understand that the devs have other priorities. If this one single change goes through, I'll be forever grateful.

Let's Talk about Camping when the gates are powered.

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 11:26 AM PST

I've been getting a large amount of salt in my post game chats as killer recently for one solitary reason: when all generators are powered, I will camp the person I have hooked. I feel this is fairly reasonable, I don't camp anytime else, and I camp at the end for the following reasons.

  • I cannot defend 2 exit gates No killer cant realistically keep both exit gates form being opened, even with Remember Me, so going over there to stop the opening is generally going to lead to either going to the wrong door or giving an opportunity for the hooked to be saved.

  • Chances are, I'm losing anyway, so I'm taking my 1K The last game this happened, I was playing my low level Trapper. Couldn't get any kills before the gens were done, but got the Bill hooked at the end. I've lost that game already, so I'll take a kill to make myself feel a bit better.

*Survivors are dumb. That game where I caught the Bill? I 3K'd that game. Meg was a second late and I downed her before she reached the exit gate, and the OTHER Meg tried to stop me camping her but I just yanked her off the unhook. Survivors are so thirsty for altruism I can basically either guarantee a trade kill or even MORE kills as long as I catch the unhook to prevent Borrowed Time.

This being said I will acknowledge that the person I caught and facecamped is gonna be unhappy, especially if you weren't caught all game. What are your guys' thoughts? Killers, do you camp or mega defend your hooks at the end, and if you don't why? And Survivors, does this policy seem unreasonable? If so, what could be done to make it less so?

Freddy's power is inherently flawed, hinders him too much and I believe he needs a full on rework

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 09:03 PM PST

Can't interact with anyone until they're asleep in any way. They can still blind/pallet stun you though. Protecting Devour Hope and Ace is already 8 seconds in on it? Congratulations! You now have lost a perk for no reason other than your ability is hindering you.

Have someone asleep? You must tunnel them, or else they can very easily wake up by self caring until they get a skill check or running into a generator. It's even worse when it's possible for this to happen during a chase! Did Quentin just vault over a window? Now he's self caring and just stabbed his intestines. Now you gotta wait out the 7 seconds of absolutely no interaction before you can potentially injure or down him again.

Oh, you chased Feng into a pallet palooza? You have absolutely no way to counter this unless you run Enduring or Brutal Strength. Seven out of ten killers have a way to deal with this, but you're one of those unlucky three! Now you have to waste a perk slot just to deal with this.

TL;DR Freddy's power makes him only able to tunnel and do nothing but tunnel until they're on a hook or dead. This is a horrible way to play the game and every time I'm Freddy or I play against Freddy someone DCs. This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Not to mention he only has one good perk, with one having really mediocre numbers and the other being too situational for it to be reliable.

[Discussion/Feedback for Devs] How would you rework the Hag?

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 09:34 AM PST

Hello people of the fog!

The devs said that the Hag will get a dedicated killer cube next.

This raises the question how you, the community would like to have the Hag reworked to make her more viable and fun for everyone to play and play against.

Right now barely anyone plays the Hag which is sad because the devs put so much effort into this character. On a dev stream some time ago they shared data saying only 5% of games are hag games.

So, share your ideas here and let's give the devs some ideas and feedback because Lisa deserves it!

EDIT

How I would rework the hag:
  • You can teleport to traps within 48 metres up from 32 metres.

  • Triggering traps can no longer be avoided by crouching. You have to trigger it or use a flashlight.

  • You get phantasm attack score event immediately after teleporting and hitting a survivor. Right now you have to wait 1-2 seconds after a teleport then hit a survivor to get the points. This has been in the game since the Hag came out because she used to have a fatigue after teleporting.

  • Setting traps is now considerably faster. Addons that affect setting time of traps also affect the time before and after the drawing.

  • Her terror radius is now 20 metres instead of 28 metres so she has a better ambush potential.

  • The player's camera when playing the Hag is higher to about Freddy's level. Right now her camera is soooo low it's really hard to track survivors in corn field maps or swamp. Also crouching is a way better counter to the Hag because she can't see as high as every other killer.

  • The Hag can no longer trap around hooks in a 8 meter radius. This prevents "insta-grabs" because low ranks don't know how to counter it and it fucks them up really bad. Also the Hag's "camp-mashine" potential will be nerfed because her ability should help her in a chase and not to camp.

  • Lunge after a teleport is slighty increased. The hag's lunge is very short to begin with and even shorter after a teleport. This change should give her a better hit potential in chases.

  • Survivor's cameras will not snap to triggered phantasms anymore. So survivors could just run straight forward and their camera will stay normal.

However, since this is a big change and harms the Hag, triggering a trap will now give survivors the "hindred" status effect for 10 seconds and "blindness" for 30 seconds. Hindred makes the survivors slightly slower and blindness removes their aura reading ability. This change would be better than the camera snap in my opinion and fit the Hag's ability since triggering a trap throws mud onto survivors.

  • The Hag's addons would also be completely reworked and some addons could affect the hindred status effect to be more effective or longer instead of increasing the phantasms trap effective range or duration, since those addons are hardly viable and bad compared to fast drawing and longer teleport addons. Her other addons should basically get rid of all those drawbacks. Basically every addons has a disadvantage to it which is really bad. I currently don't have time to give you my rework/tweak ideas of every single addons but I think it's clear that her addons need some serious rework.

Scarred hand should not remove her ability to teleport and should not also reduce her movement speed as it is now. Its one of her worst addons that make her as slow as survivors and remove her ability as well like wtf is this addons in the first place...

  • The Hag keeps her current slow movement speed because the mentioned reworks to her ability and kit in general are balanced with her slow movement speed.

  • Her perk "Hex: The Third Seal" will be reworked to "Hex: Fool's Greed". When a survivor cleanses this lit totem they lose access to 2/3/4 of their perks for the rest of the match. The community wanted to have this hex for so long because it will finally allow mindgames with cleansing totems. And it would not even be that bad to have no perks since a good survivor does not rely on them and all other survivors still have 12 perks combined vs only 4 killer perks.

  • Slight rework to Devour Hope. You will now also get a token if a survivor is unhooked within the next 10 seconds after hooking them regardless of your distance to the hooked survivor. Right now killers that use this perk get punished for instantly leaving the hook when someone is immediately unhooking someone (farming someone off) or saving someone immediately with borrowed time. This change will balance it out and won't harm the killer for leaving the hook immediately anymore because 10 seconds should be enough time to make 24 metres of distance.

  • Maybe the amount of active traps should be reduced to 8 to compensate for the changes but who knows. I'd love to also have addons that increase her active traps amount to a max of 12 traps.

  • Another idea I got is to implement a Hag specific offering called "Flesh and Mud". If the Hag (and only the Hag can use this addons!) burns this offering at the start of a match, 5 traps will already be drawn somewhere on the map. Survivors will at least be 20 metres away from any trap at the start of the game to prevent instant teleports when the match starts. I think this would be a cool idea for an offering. I think it might be a little too strong to have it baseline for the hag but who knows. As an offering I'd love it though!

These are my rework ideas so far. Of course it would need testing and stuff but I think those changes would make the hag more viable and also a more enjoyable encounter for survivors as well. :) #LisaNeedsLove

Fellow killers how do you cope?

Posted: 24 Dec 2017 05:08 AM PST

(On console) Every game I play as a killer I get, guaranteed, 1-2 messages harassing me. I can normally take the average trash talk but with the consistent 'kys' messages and people reporting me, I'm just about to abandon being a killer main. Literally being chased out of a game I love by entitled survivors.
