A feel good story with a guided game guardian

Amidst a sea of negativity, something beautiful happened last night.

I've been an avid Destiny fan since the launch of the original game. It has been a stale in my life for the past three years. I've been introduced to so many amazing people and cultivated some of my fondest gaming memories with members of this community. That's why it saddens me to see so much negativity surrounding a franchise I love so much. I don't pretend to be a game developer or aim to know how to fix the issues with the game, but I do recognize it's faults and have faith that the guys at Bungie are doing what they can to better the game for everyone.

That being said I ran into a guy last night that restored my faith in the game and reminded me why I fell in love with Destiny in the first place.

As the months have passed on, members of our clan have left or turned to other games. I myself even took a break to play Overwatch and chase some SR. So my friend and I have been leading guided games to have a third for the nightfall and to help out who we can in the process. Almost all of the games are silent. The seeker never really talks and I've never pushed the issue. Just offered a friendly hello and when no response was made I carried on.

But last night was different. We qued up in GG as normal and almost instantly found a match. I was in a party chat with some friends chatting about Christmas and New Years and just assumed this gent would be silent like all the others. He spoke here and there during the nightfall. He repeatedly stated that he didn't need to be revived and to go on without him. It was after his third or fourth death that I noticed he was level 20 and power level 300. I thought it was awesome that he was attempting to complete a difficult activity with low level gear. He was in an active clan, but I knew the woes of solo queuing for the nightfall, so I always rez'd him and we pushed through, smacked Brakion in the mouth with too many pulse grenades and completed the nightfall with no troubles. The guy didn't even go down in the finale fight!

Afterwards we're headed back to the tower and I noticed he was still in the fireteam. I was so use to people dipping out as soon as the loot popped that I didn't even think to look at the team roster. His voice came over the team chat and was just saying thank you over and over again. I learned that this was his fight nightfall clear. His current clan were not as active as he would like and they never were strong enough to clear the nightfall. He had just been grinding public events to level up and this was his first guided games. I was so stoked over his first clear, maybe even more so than my first nightfall clear, that I asked if he wanted to party up some more and run some heroics for the milestone. He told me he didn't have the dlc and asked me if he should purchase it.

It struck me in that moment that not everyone has had the experiences with this game as I have. Buying the dlc was never a question for me. I've loved just about everything Bungie has put out. So I invited the guy to our clan and told him that we really enjoyed the dlc and if he wanted a group to run with that we would be happy to help and in that moment a new guardian friend was made. I'm not sure if he'll get the expansion, but it was just a glimpse into the past and why we feel in love with this game. The sense of exploration was reignited in me and I started to devise all kinds of plans and strats to get this guy up to 335 with us. It felt good man and I think there is still so much this game can offer us as a community and the newer guardians rezing as we speak!

Eyes up guardians, we're not done yet!

PSA - Take 2: How to Heroic the Blight Public Event

NOTE: This PSA has been posted before. Since I still see level 25 players daily getting this public event wrong, I'm submitting this yet again. Even if you think you know how to trigger Heroic on the Blight event - PLEASE check this post to make sure you really do know how to trigger heroic.

What a lot of folks try to do to trigger Heroic actually make it harder or impossible to trigger heroic. This can be one of the fastest Public Events to Heroic and complete, but generally is not because of a lack of awareness of the Heroic trigger. So for new folks, or folks who just haven't figured this one out yet:

During three waves, pillars surrounded by force fields will appear. Walk through the force fields surrounding the pillars. DO NOT SHOOT THE PILLARS. When you exit, you'll have a buff called "Blight Receding." (You can see it on the lower left part of your screen.) Shoot the large Blight glob while the buff is active, which is the only time you can damage it. Repeat the process until you destroy the glob, and you'll trigger the Heroic Public Event. This will summon a new, super-strong Taken for you to defeat. Source.

A lot of people try to take down the pillars within the force field as fast as possible. This removes the force field and removes the possibility of picking up the Blight Receding buff needed to damage the main Blight orb. So, please don't do that!

Again, to summarize and provide an image. Enter the force field briefly to pick up the buff. Then exit and shoot the main Blight orb. Do enough damage to the main Blight orb to trigger Heroic. With 3 or 4 people you can trigger Heroic on the first wave if you dump rocket launcher rounds and damage into it.

Eater of Worlds is DEFINITELY Smart Looted. Myself and two other clan members completed all 3 sets last night.

Just a heads up. It only takes about a dozen clears to get everything because of smart loot. The variable being you just might not get anything from the Quantum Mines.

None of us EVER got duplicates, though. And Argos always guarantees a piece. All we need now is Prestige EoW to finish the ornaments.

If there is still anyone out there getting phaseglass for (daddy) Shaxx, or if you enjoy Io and want the armour (although why would you get phaseglass?) go phaseglass hunting at in game "nighttime" AKA when it gets darker. The glass is becomes a lot brighter. This was probably already known but I want to feel like I did something, and maybe helped somebody.

P.S. if you play nightstalker in mayhem, you are a bad person (jokes... but seriously stop)
