Just one more salty post about Crucible

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:02 AM PST

I used to play Destiny religiously in post secondary. Now I have a full time job and can't commit as much time as I'd like.
Destiny 2 NAILED casual Crucible. I think a lot of the hate is unwarranted for the state of the game. Not talking about the dlc's or any of that stuff but the actual combat in destiny is so much higher paced and fulfilling than any game (imo) on the market right now.

To the Devs: As a beta player, good job Bungo. You made a really fun game that I really enjoy whenever I have the time to play it.
To the players: don't let a hand full of people's decisions taint the hard work of many more employees. The core combat game is a gem.

PS: I've really /really/ been enjoying Mayhem please keep it in rotation (and also bring back lone wolf!)

The Colony is so fun in Mayhem. Just remotely aim in the enemy direction and let your Robots seek and destroy.

GUIDE & AMA: How Tess Loot Boxes Work (Analysis of a few hundred Openings)

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 09:03 AM PST

After $450 and over 600 hours of leveling up my "XP Bar" I've opened up a few hundred "Bright Engrams" so I thought I'd share some of the SCIENCE that can help you get most of the things you'd want from her FOR FREE. Unless you want EVERYTHING from her, you probably won't have to spend a dime. However, if you just want a set of armor for a specific class, the exotic emotes, and/or have your eye one a specific ship, sparrow, or ghost, transmat effect, etc., you could work the system in your favor with this information.

Feel Free to ASK ME ANYTHING and I'll answer the best way I can. And by Anything, I mean the topic of the Loot Boxes and Tess. :)

Salty Children and YouTubers who are Rating This Post Down

This is meant to inform people about how she works because there's a bit of misinformation about her. Regardless of how you feel about Tess, it's better that people have this information than not.

Getting 9+ "Free" Engrams Every Week (About 5000-10000 Bright Dust per month)

First of all, the free part. After reset, you get a well-rested bonus that gives you 3 easy levels and thus three easy engrams on each character just for playing the game. You'll farm these three levels just doing some of that Luminous Engram work, playing with the raid, messing with publics, doing some strikes, or slaying in the crucible. This is an EASY 9 engrams a week that take very little time to farm. If you play the game a bit more, You could be farming well over 40 engrams a month. This is a bare minimum of about 4000 Bright Dust if you smash it all, but should fall somewhere between 5 and 10 thousand depending on your luck with the big Bright Dust packages, how many exotics you smash, and how much you grind beyond the easy 36 that will get handed to you if you play just a couple hours a week.

Tess is Smart Looted But it is CATEGORY SPECIFIC

Armor starts off dropping pretty quickly and is smart looted. If you are interested in that season's Armor set (or that Holiday Event such as The Dawning), you will only get pieces you don't have. The one thing I will say about smart-loot is it seems to be category specific. For example, I won't get a duplicate Exotic ghost until I have collected all of them, however, I may get a duplicate exotic ghost if I have all the exotic ghosts already while still needing an Exotic Ship. I've also gotten multiple duplicate exotic sparrow drops after collecting them already even though I still didn't have the last piece of a legendary armor I wanted. So, you won't get duplicate exotics or duplicate legendary armor until you have everything in that category, but you MIGHT get a duplicate from another category if you have everything in it (I honestly hope this is fixed). The good news is, even that chance is low. You will MOST LIKELY get something from the pool of things you don't have. I've only had the duplicate thing happen about 10 times before getting everything and that's after a FEW HUNDRED ENGRAMS.

Getting the full Armor set in as few Engrams as Possible -- BUY the LAST, NOT the FIRST

The most economical thing to do is NOT to buy the piece she has in the store right away. Ideally, if you want to get this stuff in as few engrams as possible, you'll want to buy the last piece you need, not the first. Why? Because when you don't have any of the armor pieces, it seems to drop fairly quickly. You can often get the first three pieces in about 10 engrams. However, the "last piece" always took the most additional engrams for me. ALWAYS. In FOUR cases out of getting all 9 sets it took at least 10 engrams to get the final piece. In one case, (Titan Optimacy Gauntlets) it took about 30 engrams. I still dont' have the Gauntlets for Warlock and Titan in the Omega sets after $100. I'm waiting for Tess to sell them because even after $100 I have EVERYTHING else except those sets of gauntlets. However, I'm sitting on about 53,000 Bright Dust, so I'm going to be patient. With that said, get the first 3 to 4 pieces early, and THEN BUY. And definitely don't miss your chance to buy it and think you might just get lucky with that last engram. There's a good chance you won't!

Rarest Drops I get?

Legendary Transmat Effects. These are fairly few and far between, but I get so many blues it's easy to turn them into Amanda for a guaranteed legendary.

Most Common Drops?

It feels like I would get all of the emotes very quick as well as Exotic Ornaments. I made three rounds of purchases, $150, $100, and another $100 for the Vanilla Launch, CoO, and The Dawning. In every case, I got all the emotes, exotics included, and most of the legendary armor the fastest. Then I'd start seeing a lot more of the exotic ornaments, sparrows, ghosts, and ships with no particular noticeable advantage for any of them.

Bright Dust Packages

You'll get alot of 250s with the occasional 500 and 1000. I've gotten a couple 1000 Bright Dust Packages in a row. Which, honestly, is one of the best drops. There are few things in Tess's store that cost more than 1000 Bright Dust, so this more often leads to a profit if you use it to buy something directly from her store. Even the 250 is really nice to see. Most of the time, you'll get a legendary shell or ship that you are going to smash for only about 100.

Breaking Down for Bright Dust

Exotic Sparrows, Ghosts, and Ships will give you the most at around 500-600 Bright Dust. Legendary Armor and Ghosts will give you about 100ish give or take. Most of you are aware of the legendary stuff, but those of you who are not MTXing may have not known about the value of smashing Exotics. You won't get anything from smashing the exotic emote because it just gets stowed into your collection.

Farming Legendary Transmat Effects

You can turn in 3 three blue transmat effects of the same type and color (meaning they must stack) in to Amanda Holiday for random LEGENDARY TRANSMATS EFFECTS. Turning in certain colors or certain effects has no bearing on what you will get. It will just be any Random Legendary Transmat Effect. Currently I get Season 1 and Season 2 Transmats from these. I'm mentioning this because I've heard of people not knowing about it and even dismantling transmats.

Blue Drops

On top of that Legendary, exotic, and/or Bright Dust guaranteed drop, you usually get some combination of a couple of mods/transmats that can be legendary or rare.

Why didn't I save a video of me opening these?

Honestly, I didn't think what I was doing was anything special. I think there's plenty of people who've dropped a few hundred on Tess, but given the current sentiment, they might be keeping that to themselves. I've been running a fun, successful raid clan for 3 years, so I really don't care what a few salty YouTubers and their sycophants think of me. After the next DLC, I'll save a video of my Loot Box fun.

What mobility should feel like

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:30 AM PST

I recently got myself a dire promise (Dead orbit hand cannon with lightweight frame) and went to crucible with it. The speed difference is so noticable and actually feels good. I found it much easier to get kills because my enemies had a hard time retreating and it was also easier to avoid getting shots/get to cover/retreat from a fight with low health.

This is what mobility should feel like. It should feel rewarding in fights where you either have to chase your enemy or retreat with low hp.

Overall I had lots of fun using the gun only because of the movement speed boost, and hope that momentum gets a buff (or all the armor stats get buffed to the point where they mean something and feel rewarding)

Heroic adventures on Mercury...2 questions

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 08:29 AM PST

  1. How do the active modifiers work? Are they random? Different every week? I logged in yesterday and The Runner had the cycling burn modifier. I decided to do something else and logged in later that day and it was on "From the Shadows"...today it's still on from the shadows.

  2. Is there a bigger reward if you finish the timed part? Pretty hard to do solo. The health pools are massive and they can nearly one shot you.

Ok that's more than 2 questions. But whatever.

We Ran Out Of Medals (Crucible Mayhem)

Posted: 23 Dec 2017 01:18 AM PST

It's not just about the loot. It's about working together. Learning to take feedback. Drawing from the team's strengths while supporting its weaknesses. This is what a real clan is all about. And the loot? That's just a bonus. Loot is finite. Clan is forever. #TheChildren #RaidLair #EaterOfWorlds

Shaders compromise

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 11:38 PM PST

So, obviously, Bungo isn't gonna give us the old shader system, and they probably won't make them reusable either. So I have an idea for a compromise: we keep the current system, but all shaders drop in groups of five. So we at least always get a full set.
