News & Announcements

Double Bloodpoints (Dec 28—Jan 2)

Mathieu - "Double Bloodpoints [for everyone] are gonna start December 28th until January 2nd."

Headcase on PS4

Mathieu - "It's coming... We're still waiting on those dates."

"Chuckles" Trapper Mask Available for Pre-Order

Note: Will be released on April 30th, 2018.

Mathieu - "It's a scaled replica of the mask. If you preorder it early, you'll be able to get your hands on one of the 1,555 limited edition posters that have been signed by the team."

  • The mask is said to be a 1-to-1 replica, but that doesn't really specify the size.

Mathieu - "I can tell you the Evan McMillan is a very large feller."

  • If I get a mask early, can I get a poster with the team's kiss marks?

Mathieu - "We haven't made one, unfortunately."

Out-Of-Office Vacation

Mathieu - "Next week, we will not be doing one of those [streams]. Some of us might be streaming from home because it's fun; and most like the Thursday after that, I will be back in the office, but absolutely nothing will have happened between then and now but maybe."

Not_Queen - "We can make a panel. I know some people were asking for the sound guy..."

Mathieu - "If anything, we'll just sit and talk about our vacation."

Q&A

Not_Queen - "I discussed with the Killer audience... They had a lot of questions and very valid points. If I don't have the answer, it's because our whole design team is on vacation.

  • Was the map reworks especially on cluttered maps?

Not_Queen - "We have somebody on the team that is working on a random generation tool that is gonna help us on generating better maps. (How/where the hooks are generated, how many safe/unsafe pallets, and everything.) I spoke with Matt Walker and we're gonna have testing on the maps without any pallets to see if there's issues."

  • Survive With Friends compensation?

Not_Queen - "We're still discussing how we want to balance this. It's probably not gonna be a compensation; more like a leveling of the field."

Mathieu - "Aren't people gonna scream, 'Now that it's harder against SWF, it's gonna be harder against everyone?' "

Not_Queen - "Nope. It implies that there's gonna be changes to Killers also. I don't want to go into details 'cause there's nothing fixed right now."

  • Incentive not to camp or tunnel?

Not_Queen - "The Emblem System [is the answer]."

Mathieu - "It's so much better."

Not_Queen - There's a PTB coming, and everyone is gonna be invited to give us feedback—"

Mathieu - "Constructive feedback."

  • Finally implement a DC punishment?

Not_Queen - "We do, except that we are basing it off of the percentage of games left and not a number. If you play 700 games and you leave 50% of the time, maybe you shouldn't be playing."

  • Scratch marks fix?

Not_Queen - "Yes. We have them bugged in the system, now we have to have someone dedicated on it. We have three main issues: when picking up a Survivor, when no one's around or everybody's dead, and when they exit the game."

  • PTB when?

Not_Queen - "Not before January."

  • Can we get a Killer called Santa Claus that knows where everyone is at all times but can't hit them unless they do something naughty?

Mathieu - "That's actually not a bad idea..."

Not_Queen - "You teabag, you get hit."

  • Will you and/or can you get your music guy/gal in a stream to show us how you made and implemented the music?

Mathieu - "We've been wanting to get the Sound Guy in here."

  • Will there ever be a 2.0 version of this game?

Mathieu - "It's hard to say if there ever will be a 2.0 version. Anytime you do a sequel, it is essentially an acknowledgement that the game is done in a sense. We're not ready to do that yet. But what could happen is other games in the fictional world of The Entity."

  • How come Myer's and Hag's movement animation different in the results screen compared to in-game?

Mathieu - "That's a good question I don't have the answer to."

  • Are there any bugs that you wish you could have kept?

Mathieu - "We started a game to test, and the map was pitch black. There was no lighting, except for the barrels and the lights of the generators and flashlights. So you'd just run and bump into shit, and it was really fun but unplayable."

Not_Queen - "For me, it's Butter Billy. Remember that PTB where we had Billy just running around and just doing donuts around stuff? I would have liked to do that."

Mathieu - "Noodle legs."

Not_Queen - "Noodle legs was an amazing bug."

  • How do you test things in terms of balance changes?

Mathieu - "It's difficult and we do it many different ways. We check stats, we talk to players, we have a PTB as a tool, we also do a lot of internal playtest..."

  • Can we get Philip in to talk about his work?

Not_Queen - "That would be a possibility, absolutely."

  • Can crouching make exhaustion faster again?

Not_Queen - "I don't think we have any plans for that."

  • Any talk on Killers being able to hook from all angles to prevent bodyblocking?

Mathieu - "Well bodyblocking the hook...you can always hit them."

Not_Queen - "I know it's been said quite a bit that we don't see that as a problem, but I don't think that's gonna be touched anytime soon. The most thing is probably gonna be pallet distribution and the maps."

{Dave's comment from Stream #76 regarding 'multi-directional' hooks - "It could be. Is it something that's going to happen tomorrow? No; but it's something we could look into."}

  • Are you planning on releasing Killer weapon replicas in the merch store?

Mathieu - "We would love to. We're working on a few side projects like this. More merch is coming next year."

  • Can we please have DBD Funko Pops?

Mathieu - "I would love that."

Mathieu - "I was looking around at the artwork section in Steam. In the most popular of all time, there's three GIFs that have been in there for, I think, two years now and they are absolutely spot-on."

  1. Survival's team on free weekend

  2. When killer is camping you and u see other survivors

  3. When I hide in the closet, but the killer heard it.

Huntress long range giggle

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 10:59 AM PST

So we know that the huntress has a little tantrum in her voice whenever she is stunned. What I would like is a little giggle from her or some type of acknowledgement that comes from a hatchet outside of her terror radius.

How to make playing killer fun again?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 07:57 AM PST

I'm not going to shame survivors for pallet looping and flashlighting. That's simply the most effective set of tactics available to them and they will of course take advantage of them. If I was a survivor main I'd probably loop all the dang time, too.

However, I will still complain that pallet looping and flashlighting suck the fun out of being a red rank killer. There's almost nothing you can do to counter looping aside from following the loop and eating the pallet. It's boring and frustrating for me to experience.

I love this game, but my passion is fading. What can I do to make it fun again?

A THANK YOU to the Devs!

Posted: 21 Dec 2017 06:03 PM PST

Anyone who is passionate about Dead By Daylight (and owns a Reddit account!) will of course know that this past week we've all been up in arms about the removal of our precious Double Blood Points (Blood Hunt).

Well, I've just logged on to find that they've changed their minds and have added another DBP event from THURSDAY, DECEMBER 28th 00:00 UTC -- TUESDAY, JANUARY 2nd 00:00 UTC.

I'm ecstatic. I love my Blood Hunts, as do you, I'm sure. But let's take a step back here and think for a moment. We're all extremely passionate about this game and we all come together when something about it changes that we don't like (Freddy, Wraith cube, these DBP, to name a few recent ones) -- But this reintroduction of the double blood points goes to show that BHVR are actually listening to us.

They made a business decision (for that is what the removal of DBP ultimately is!) We didn't like that decision. We mouthed our concerns. They changed that decision.

So, I'm going to say THANK YOU, BHVR. For listening to us, and considering our thoughts and finally for putting your playerbase first. Actions like this will strengthen our belief in your company and will see us return to this, or any other projects you may have in the future.

See you in the FOG!

EDIT No, I'm not a BHVR employee in disguise here. Honest.

Why does the Trapper have to collect other traps from around the map and then place them?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 11:21 AM PST

It feels slow, I don't know what to prioritise. There's the odd chance half my traps won't even be activated or will be deactivated by survivors. If you're too far away from one, they could escape by the time time you get there. I find myself comparing his power to the Hags. Her traps can't kill, but it gives her mobility and she can get straight to the chase. His traps on the other hand just feel underwhelming if you don't place them in smart spots. Even then it takes time and by the time I've placed a few, two generators have already gone.

I really like the idea, but his power just feels so slow to use and I may as well just not bother too much. I've not been playing for too long, but I've had more luck with other killers than him. Even if he started with all his traps at the start of the round and was able to lay them down slightly faster, I'd love him a lot more.

Is there a reason that his power functions this way? Would having all his traps available at the start be much worse than the Hag being able to place 10 traps at once?

Territorial Imperative Secret OP

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 12:43 PM PST

You don't realize it until you run it, but it's basically a free hook at the beginning of every other game on someone like LF. I was trying to do the Basement Security thing and I got an average of .7 kills per game from Territorial Imperative triggering over the length of the entire exercise.

We're Going to Live Forever needs a secondary effect

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:19 AM PST

As it is, killers have BBQ&C which is a fantastic perk that discourages camping and increases bloodpoint gain.

We're going to live forever is not only much harder to gain stacks in, but it provides no benefit other than more bloodpoints. To put it on par with BBQ&C, it should have some sort of secondary effect such as one of these or something else to make it more useful outside of farming:

  • When taking a hit for another survivor, the other survivor receives a short burst of speed allowing them to run at 150% movement speed for 1/1.5/2 seconds.
  • Your attempts to save your friends amuse the entity. After unhooking or taking a hit for survivor, survivors auras are revealed to each other for 2/3/5 seconds.

Really it just needs something to make it better than "We're going to farm forever". Any ideas are welcome.

Dear devs, please don't show the Killer's perks until the game is over.

There is absolutely no reason for this to be a thing.

P.S. pls make Blood Warden retroactive :B.

Could we talk about hitbox?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 08:10 AM PST

Why can't you try to escape the hook, when you're the last player alive?

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:10 AM PST

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I couldn't find an answer. Okay, so they have a feature where you can attempt to escape off of the hook. Yet the only time it would ever really be worth losing life to try and unhook oneself, is when there is no one left to save you. But strangely enough, this seems to be the only time that you can't use the feature.

Makes no sense to me. There is even a perk for this. Who is that perk for, people who can't wait one minute to be rescued? I really don't understand some design choices in this game and I can see why so many people get frustrated with this game.

Pallet loops and when to disengage

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 09:29 AM PST

So I've been pallet looped for a while. I mean until there are 2 gens left. When should I disengage. I also heard about safe and unsafe pallets, what exactly are those?

I'd like to not suck at Michael, but here I am, begging for help...

Posted: 22 Dec 2017 12:28 PM PST

So far the only killer I've leveled/enjoyed playing is Hag. I really enjoy her play style, and by setting up traps in good "vault" areas and patrolling just one part of the map, I can usually manage 3K easy, occasionally 4. Now, I have the Halloween DLC, and Michael and his intense staring have been calling my name lately.

I don't know if it's because I'm so set in my ways and used to the Hag gameplay which is more about mind-games and thinking ahead, but I tried playing Michael several times last night and didn't get a single kill. Hell, I barely even hit anyone. And it wasn't like a one-time fluke/bad game thing, I played several and sucked at each and every one. I was a disappointment to Jamie Lee Curtis herself.

So, my question is, what are some newbie Michael tips/how exactly am I supposed to play this man? I've got the stalking down, but then I don't know at which point I'm supposed to stop stalking and start chasing, which is usually how they get too far away from me and then I'm out of luck. The only time I seem to be able to get any hits in is if I sneak up on someone doing a generator in EW1 and rip them off. Other than that, as soon as the survivors know that I'm a Michael, I get chased around the map and get lucky if I get a single hook.
