| Posted: 17 Nov 2017 07:04 AM PST 2017 has been an eventful year for Project M; we saw two of the biggest events of all time in The Bigger Balc, and Smash N Splash 3, which both pulled over 300 entrants. Following a heated summer of Smash, the competition still blazed just as fiercely. Throughout the year, a group of seven players have proven capable of taking a national title: Thunderz, Malachi, Sosa, Switch, Flipp, Fuzz, and Hyperflame emerged and the competition between them has been even closer this year than ever before! Now that the year is winding down to a close, the NorCal regional, Fair and Balanced, is the final big event for the year, and Thunderz, Malachi, Sosa, and Fuzz will be attending to try and secure their place as number one!
ThundeRzReiGN (Donkey Kong/Falcon, NorCal) After a dominant victory at Olympus in 2016, Thunderz has been the undisputed number one player in PM. But recently he has been dropping more and more sets to other top players; going into this event he's actually even vs. Sosa (2-2) negative vs. Fuzz (1-2), and has a major losing record vs Malachi (1-4). However, Thunderz has still proven to be a monster of consistency despite some shaky records vs. the other top dogs by winning the biggest event of the year (Bigger Balc), and placing at least top 3 in every event he's entered while dropping very few sets to non top seven players. A win at Fair and Balanced could go a long way towards cleaning up his record against these other three players, and with home-field advantage he should be scarier than ever.
Malachi, known more affectionately by the community as Bob Bobberson, is considered by many to have already taken Thunderz' crown for 2017. This is probably because he's spent the entire year beating that ass. There are still some obstacles for Bobby though: Sosa has proven to be his kryptonite this year with a (2-4) record and Fuzz is a huge threat in this top echelon that he has never played. A victory at Fair and Balanced would almost certainly solidify Malachi as the new best player in the world. Many see Malachi as the favorite to win the tournament, but it's all on him to maintain his dominance over Thunderz, overcome his Sosa problem, and avoid falling victim to Fuzz's crazy momentum.
To most people, Sosa's 2017 has been relatively quiet as he did not place first at anything until the most recent regional, Clutch City Clash. A lack of first place finishes doesn't mean Sosa has been under-performing though; he has still had a strong year with a slew of top 3's and no finishes outside of top 8. Not to mention he has a convincing record over Malachi (4-2), an even record with Thunderz (2-2), and is quite competitive with Fuzz (3-4). Sosa could very well steal 2017 out from under Malachi and Thunderz with a win at Fair and Balanced, and with his all the momentum from his recent victory at Clutch City Clash he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Fuzz is the rising star of 2017. After his breakout performance at Bigger Balc, where he placed 3rd and beat Sosa and Switch. Along the way, he proved that he was not a one hit wonder by consistently placing top 8, and securing his first big win at Salty Juan's 4. Fuzz is the hot new kid on the block, and he shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. He also has an amazing record going into this, being up on both Thunderz (2-1) and Sosa (4-3). The big what-if for Fuzz is Malachi, the last top player on his list. If Fuzz can win Fair and Balanced and take out Malachi along the way, he actually makes a convincing case for being the #1 player of 2017. It would be quite a story for the new top player that just wants to show the world how broken Mewtwo is.
TL;DR: WHOEVER WINS FAIR AND BALANCED TOMORROW COULD BE THE NUMBER ONE PM PLAYER OF 2017! YOU SHOULD WATCH!!!

| Smash 4's weight-dependent throw formula and general throw frame data Posted: 17 Nov 2017 11:09 AM PST Story time! Several months ago I decided to start a project with the goal of finding the mechanics of weight-dependent throws in Smash 4. In previous games, the formula was quite simple. The length of weight-dependent throws was multiplied by (Weight x 0.01), and everything in the throw scaled accordingly. However, in Smash 4 they introduced a new value in the formula: 26. It turned out that the new frame speed multiplier was related to the total animation length of the throw, and this value was a constant used for the calculation. Using a spreadsheet comparing DRAFIX's weight-dependent throw data to a formula, data came up to be around 95% accurate, but there were uncorrectable errors in places. The formula I used was: Natural Frame x (1 + (26/animation length) x (weight x 0.01 - 1)) (To get an integer answer, just use the ceiling function.) I realized recently that with CEMU's memory search tool, I could actually find the exact animation frame, which is stored as a float value with 6 decimal places. After a minor adjustment, the formula accuracy on the spreadsheet was completely accurate with 1 exception. The adjustment was that frame 1 of throws is always the same no matter what weight, and it uses animation length - 1: 1 + (Natural frame - 1) x (1 + (26/(animation length - 1)) x (weight x 0.01 - 1)) It's worth mentioning the easiest way to conceptualize the formula: New animation length is the normal animation length + 26 x (weight x 0.01 - 1), and everything scales from frame 1 to the last animation frame. The only exception? ROB's fthrow and bthrow. It turns out that when he uses those throws against the exact characters Jigglypuff, Meta Knight, Game and Watch, and Kirby, instead of using animation length in the formula, it uses the FAF (first actionable frame). I have no idea why, but it's probably just a bug with the code. If you want the specifics, these characters are actually decided by fighter_param 288 = 0x1. Hopefully people will find the spreadsheet useful. It contains the launch frame, FAF, animation length, and endlag of every (non-special) throw in the game using the formula. There's a small chance that I could have made errors in places, or that ROB isn't the only exception. If you see something like that, let me know and I'll try to investigate it. Special thanks to DRAFIX, Struz, and Ruben. [link] [comments] | ||

| Metagalactic Blitz -Dodgeball Arena Combat- a new take on smash inspired mechanics Posted: 17 Nov 2017 10:54 AM PST I've spent the last 3 years developing this game with a good friend of mine. I hope you guys like what you see. A sci fi dodgeball arena combat game focused on knocking your opponent off the platform. While not being a platform fighter, our game uses the percent based mechanic to give a fresh take on some of smash's best mechanics. Here is the release trailer for Metagalactic Blitz Metagalactic Blitz is a couch co-op game with networked multiplayer and a ranked matchmaking service. The game has 3 basic mechanics: Throwing, Dashing/Catching, and Melee/Reflecting. On top of these 3 basic mechanics each character has 3 unique abilities ranging from combo tools to recovery options. The point of the game is to build damage on your opponents until you can knock your opponents off the platform until you are the last one standing. [link] [comments] | ||
