What's your favorite thing about Skyrim?

What keeps you coming back year after year? For me, it's the immersion. The world just sucks you right in and never really gets old.

School was cancelled because of an escape at a local youth correctional facility. I asked him what he wanted to do today since he didn't have school.

Let's play the "revised question" game.

Basically: You ask me a Skyrim related question and then I respond, you then revise the question to make the whole thing humorous.

Technical analysis of the Elemental Blast line in the new Arcane Accessories DLC.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:58 AM PST

This spell line does not work like Chaos Damage at all. It also does not work the way any normal multi-elemental spell would work. Most people seem to be aware that it is very powerful, but not why. I looked into it.

This spell has three independent components:

  • A 15 foot AoE that deals 15/20/30/40 magic damage (fire resistance is ineffective) to health and stamina. This scales with Augmented Flames and Augmented Frost, multiplicatively, as well as Aspect of Terror for 10 bonus damage. This is the number shown in the spell description.

  • A 15 foot 8/16/26/40 damage shock explosion that scales with Augmented Shock.

  • A fixed 15 damage over 1 second shock hazard, as in Wall of Storms, placed at the impact location. This lasts 1 second and hits in an 8 foot radius (much larger than the visuals would indicate).

  • Additionally, the spell applies Intense Flames in its entire AoE but Disintegrate and Deep Freeze only to the primary target.

The spell does not deal any fire damage, and the description has no relation to the amount of shock damage dealt.

This means the best way to maximise its potential is to take the frost and fire perks first because Augmented Flames and Augmented Frost are multiplicative. The shock damage component will ultimately deal less damage than the magic damage component and is easier to resist.

The spell line deals significantly more damage than a vanilla spell without perks and even more so with perks (more than double) and partially ignores resistances, while higher levels of it are significantly cheaper than a vanilla spell (less than half). This makes the Elemental spells the best damage spells in the game.
