/r/PokemonGO is recruiting new moderators! Apply within

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 10:52 AM PST

Hello all! We're looking to take on some more mods to help keep /r/pokemongo running well. Are you up for the job? Then read on below!

As a mod, your responsibilities would include:

  • Responding to moderator mail as quickly and helpfully as possible. We are looking for volunteers with strong communication skills who can remain upbeat, even when dealing with difficult people and situations

  • Helping to check every new submission to the subreddit, and watching carefully to make sure the comments don't get out of hand either!

  • Politely and productively participating in internal discussions, both in our private subreddit and our Slack chat

  • Being the very best, like no one ever was

Before you apply, be warned that moderating can be difficult. Be prepared to put in a lot of time, and be further prepared to deal with rude people who will question every decision you make. Please only apply if you're willing to do the following:

  • Maintain a courteous demeanor when dealing with people on the subreddit

  • Participate in a trial period before becoming a full moderator

  • Actively participate in mod discussions on Slack

  • Install and use the Reddit moderator toolbox extension (please note that this is a desktop-only extension, so you should be confident you can do the majority of your work from desktop, not mobile, before you apply)

Please note that Reddit moderators are fan volunteers. No compensation is provided and we are not affiliated with Niantic or Pokemon in any official way.

If you understand what you're getting into, and you're still up for the job, you can apply by filling out this form. The application is fairly long, so we'd suggest waiting to complete it until you have some time to spare. If you applied in the past, you'll still need to fill out a new application this time around.

Applications will be open until Friday, November 17. Decisions will be made by the new year. We'll take on as many new mods as we feel comfortable adding, and we may contact you about a follow-up conversation or second-wave application before making a decision. Due to the high number of applications we typically receive, we will only contact you if we decide to add you as a moderator.

Best of luck! If you've got any questions about the application, please message the current mods here.

[Idea] Stardust received after a catch should scale with the level of the pokemon

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 12:57 AM PST

So right now, we have a weird mechanic in the game: Every pokemon caught is worth 100 stardust (or 300 or 500 for evolutions). No matter how high its CP was or how difficult it was to catch. This makes for a weird idea in the game: High CP pokemon are less desirable than low CP pokemon. Obviously that makes no sense, but since you're not being rewarded for catching a level 30 murkrow over catching a level 1 pidgey, i usually just don't bother with the difficult to catch pokemon.

So what if instead of getting a flat amount of stardust per catch, the stardust would actually range between 50 and 200 per catch? That way, catching a high level pokemon would still actually be worth your effort.

Seems like an easy enough change to implement as well.

^ My Precioussss.

Found this guy on the way home from work last night! First shiny! I'm sure you can imagine what I did when it popped up on the screen, haha. Level 28, haven't dusted him yet. I was too busy freaking out...I mean focused catching it...to even think about taking an AR Screenshot haha.

Re-adding as I missed the AR Screenshot piece of Rule 2b. Apologies!

Why can't we use the S Pen on the Note series phones?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 08:01 PM PST

Its getting cold outside now and my finger starts to hurt from trying to catch pokemon and spin stops. I tried using my S pen earlier today but it wouldn't register anything in the app. Is there any reason to not let the S pen work in Pokemon Go?

[Bug] The 'spinning white ball' in the corner during the capture screen causes my fps to plummet and causes many attempts at throwing to simply fall flat on the ground. Bought balls and losing them to this bug.

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 06:48 PM PST

This is fairly new, within the last few weeks, and I honestly don't know what's changed. The whole UI has become an increasingly laggy mess which often lets me do things out of order (close the pokemon list screen, accidentally tap a pokemon, the list closes but the pokemon details open, and then if closed goes back to the map), and seems to be frequently crashing now. Any sort of side to side scrolling lags whenever a pokemon has to be shown.

But the worst is that so many of my catches are failing because as I spin my throw, the white loading ball comes up and causes the fps to plummet, and for half of my input to not register. I actually bought balls from the store today, and lost several and missed first catch bonuses because the game suddenly randomly inserts an fps killer in the middle of the catch screen. Whatever it's doing when that thing comes up, can it not do that anymore or be coded to not destroy the phone? I'm on an LG G4 which seems a reasonable phone.

[complaint]Glitches stole two Lvl 3 raids from me today

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 08:38 AM PST

I'm a rural player who lives 15 minutes away from a small town with 6 spread-out gyms. So I was excited today to see two Level 3 raids at the same time. I'm level 38, and solo level 3 raids frequently. But today, BOTH the raids were plagued with so many glitches I couldn't win either battle. First was a PC/FB Alakazam (which I've done before) and second was a C/HS Machamp that I regularly beat with 20+ seconds left. Both raids were plagued with so many bugs:

1: started with 175-177 seconds

2: defender's charge move would faint my attacker, plus take half the health of the next one!

3: phantom hits where my attacker inexplicably loses a chunk of health

4: timer ending with 4-6 seconds left

I had a stable connection with full bars. I have a good enough team that I can handle 2-3 of those glitches, but not all 4! Especially when the second glitch happens more than once per battle. That's $2 and 30 minutes of time. As a rural player, this is extremely frustrating.

iPhone X and PoGo

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 05:27 PM PST

Just got an iPhone X and I keep getting GPS issues with the phone. Sometimes I find myself "stuck" to a gym or a random spot (I walk away and my avatar doesn't follow). I used to be able to multitask with my old iPhone but now when I go to another app and come back it gives me the "GPS not found" error message.

Has anyone else played Pokémon Go with an iPhone X? Anyone else have the same issues?

How is your experience with it?

Are pokestops giving potions correctly?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 02:17 PM PST

So, after the latest update I've been swapping many pokestops (at my university there are at least 25 in a small area, maybe 15min to swap all of them). But curiously I got no potions today. And I was there from 730am to 7pm. Almost 12h of no potion-pokestops. And I was not the only one, at least 5 friends of mine were facing the same problem. Have any one of you faced the same issue? Thanks.

Any hope of seeing former Legendary Pokemon raids again?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 08:14 AM PST

I missed the boat and didn't get any of the legendary birds, Lugia, or Raikou (and of course no Mewtwo).

What are the chances of random lvl 5 raids so that there will be a chance for the "older" legendary pokemon to be picked up by new players?

Is it my phone or is it the game?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 08:08 PM PST

I'm trying to revive my pokemon.

Sorry app froze.

Trying to take a gym down.

Sorry, app closed.

Trying to catch pokemon.

GPS not found error (11)

You wanted to raid? sorry, changing your lineup requires an app crash then 100 "please oh please work" chants.

Is this Niantic's way of telling me I need a new handset? I'm really feeling like I need an iphone to enjoy this game.

It wouldn't feel so bad if I knew where to draw the line between dated phone and optimization problems on Niantic's end. Honestly it's killing my will to play. I just walked away from a gym yesterday because of this.

For the record I have a blazin' fast

LG Stylo 2

Android 7.0

Kernel version 3.10.49

Are either of those my problem?

TL;DR: Game seems to freeze/crash so much I think my device needs to be replaced. Not sure if my current os is to blame?

[Question] How are we supposed to get potions?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 06:41 AM PST

I sat under Silver gym for an hour, got 3 regular potions. I spun Gold gym three times, no potions. I defeated tier 2 raid, got 5 regular potions, was one potion short to heal pokemon back up to full health (The ones I used in the raid).

My question then is, how are we supposed to get potions?

Thanksgiving event this thursday?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 10:24 PM PST

Hey,

Just asking...I wasn't playing the game last year when the Thanksgiving event dropped. Was it 1 week before the actual party or was it released on Thanksgiving weekend only? I'm starting to get bored and an event would make me hyped for the next week.

Thanks in advance.

totally got hassled from folks from another team.

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 12:17 AM PST

i run everyday after work. my route includes a semi-secluded park. it started raining and i stop under a tree to wait for the rain to lighten up.

i was near a gym so i attempted to take it over. a few minutes later a car drives by and parks across the street where i was. i didn't think anything of it until they stared feeding berries to the mons in the gym. i continue to battle then i start hearing them opening and slamming their car doors continuously. i then hear them hit something metal to the ground repeatedly. they continued doing that till i left.

as i continued on with my run, all i thought about was, "are you fucking kidding me? for pokemon?"

[Discussion] Are we going to get Alolan Forms early?

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 05:04 PM PST

This is basically a theory/prediction; I didn't know whether to tag "Idea" or "Discussion".

Basically the theory is this: a lot of the current (T2) Raid Bosses are fairly unpopular pokemon that aren't that good in go; but which have good/powerful/popular alolan forms: Marowak, Sandslash, Ninetales. And now we get an Alolan outfit out of the blue? Could we get an early release of some of the Alolan forms (or other Gen VII mons) for the release of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? [This Weekend?]

(Muk, Exeggutor and Golem also are or were previously Raid bosses and have Alolan forms. This leaves just Raticate, Raichu, Dugtrio and Persian as mons with Alolan forms that haven't been bosses.)
