Teddy declared a surprise war in the mideval era and successfully took my capital with a few warriors, a catapult, and a cs ally while I had ancient walls and a crossbowman. Never have I lost a city past the mideval era, let alone my capital until now.

A Civ VI newb story

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 07:11 PM PDT

Hi guys.

This is my first post here and I wanted to share a story typical of all my learning curves with these games going back to the early nineties, and one that really illustrates why I've always loved these games.

I always take baby steps on smallish maps when I first get a new version so I can learn the mechanics and gameplay and not get too involved in an epic, gigantic game. After I get the hang of the basics, I'll dive into one of those where restarting isn't an on option.

I'm still in this baby stepping stage with Civ VI and was just trying out Germany on a small continental map. Kabul spawned nearby and I thought I'd try whittling them down with archers so I could take them out at zero strength with my starting warrior. Everything was going well but, right before I was going to commit my warrior, a passing barbarian scout wandered up and razed the city. I had to laugh.

Anyway, it was just so typical of the memories of stupid and epic things that I've done with these games over the years. Thought some of you might appreciate the story.

I just discovered a way to glitch Spies and make them more efficient.

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 01:11 AM PDT

If you click on the "select mission" button while your spy has a promotion waiting, so that the possible missions pop up in their sidebar, and THEN click the promotion button and choose a promotion, the mission sidebar will not automatically close, so you may then select a mission the same turn they're promoted, instead of them becoming paralyzed by a promotion like every other unit.

Edit: You have to actually click the mission on the side bar, to bring up the screen that gives you the option to "cancel" or "Accept Mission." That's the one that won't close.

Civilopedia Physical Book?

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 07:35 PM PDT

I introduced my 10 year old son to Civilization V recently and he loves it! He's asked me a ton of questions about Civ. His screen time is limited so he's asked me if any books about the game exist. Do they? Minecraft has many such books. Thanks in advance for the help!
