Is a lack of exposure hurting Smite's competitive level? (X-post r/Competitive_Smite)

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 11:12 AM PDT

A couple of days ago, DayToRemeber put out a Twitlonger on the current state of the Challenger Circuit. Among the issues Day brought up, exposure and pay were two of the reasons he brought up for the bad state of the CC.

The players on all CC teams are paid the same, 250$ for a five week split. When the Circuit is streamed on Tiermonster, the average number of number of viewers is between 100-1,000. When streamed on Hi-RezTV, the average numbers of viewers is 1,000-10,000

Day also brought up how the ratio between the competitive players to everyone else is smaller than that of other eSports. Between the lack of exposure to Conquest as a new player (all the tutorials take place on the Joust & Arena maps), the standard learning curve, and the fact that there's little info into how to play competitively, means there's little incentive for players to try to make it into the CC and SPL.

The next day after Day's Twitlonger, LG Dire Wolves announced that 4/5ths of its roster would retire. Former player Rowe also made a Twitlonger and one of the reasons he included for retiring was a lack of continued growth by Smite. This rings true for all the non-NA/EU regions, their only time to shine is during LANs where representatives from those regions are invited to play. Competitive Smite is basically NA and EU, with cameos by Oceania and Latin America. Like with the CC, little exposure hurts the players who invest their time into playing this game at a professional level.

I can think of couple of solutions to help with the exposure problem:

  1. Stream both the NA/EU Challenger Circuits and the international leagues on HiRezTV. I know HR likes to stream Paladins and HOG on here, but Smite built the house they live in. Plus both Paladins and HOG have their own Twitch channels. If this isn't an option, move all Smite eSports related streams to Smitegame, and do the same with both Paladins and HOG and their respective channels, while saving HRTV for LANs and HRX.

  2. No matter where Smite eSports is streamed, create a schedule for the week. For example, Monday-Tuesday is the NA/EU CCs, Wedensday is Latin America, Thursday hits us with Thursday Night Smite, Friday is Ocenaina's time to shine, while the weekend remains the same with NA/EU SPL action. If it makes it easier, pre record these games so that they can be streamed during weekdays.

  3. Bring back crowd funding for Worlds. If the prize pool for Worlds is crowdfunded, HR can put more money into the scene during the regular season and can give incentives, like skins, for contributing to the prize pool for Worlds.

Can we get updated card arts for Run.EXE and Jag.RAR to match the new animated ones?

Know your Healers: A Look at Healing in Smite

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 12:30 PM PDT

Evening Folks.

Now something that has bugged me for quite some time when playing Smite is folks not picking up Anti-Heal against certain characters and then complaining that they can't kill them. To that I say they are being lazy and don't know the basics of counter building.

But that got me curious....just how many gods have some form of Healing in their kits? The results I found were shocking O__O 46 out of the 90 Gods and Goddesses have healing. FORTY SIX!!! Over half the roster has Healing and people question whether Anti-Heal is necessary!!

So today I would like to go over a few things. The Gods themselves, Items and Relics that interact with Healing and how both Physical and Magical Lifesteal works.

Item and Relic Interacts with Healing

The Helpers!

Rod of Asclepius

-Our only item that actually increases healing, giving you and allies 10% increased healing out of combat and 20% in combat.

Lotus Crown

-Feel like making yourself and allies slightly tankier during your heals? This little number gives 20 Protections to both Physical and Magical.

Shield of Regrowth

-Are you tired of moving as slow as a Zeus with no boots? Pick up this item making you 40% faster after you heal yourself!!

Mail of Renewal

-While not affected by your heals, you can regain 15% of both your health and mana for getting a kill or assist. What a bargain, I get to keep living and continue to kill others? It's like I'm Hercules!!!

The Inhibitors!

Divine Ruin

-I will sing it til the cows come home, this item should be picked up by any mage against Healing heavy comps. Reduce the enemies healing by 40% when hit by your abilities. What's that? You want Spear of Desolation? Lotta good that passive will be if ya can't kill them in the first place (-__-)*

Brawler's Beatstick

-Along the similar vein as Divine, Brawler's is an excellent pickup for assassins and even some ability focused Hunters if that's your cup of tea (Mage Neith = Best Neith) with another 40% reduction to healing.

Toxic Blade

-The new kid on the block of Anti-Heal. If you can reliably hit those basic attacks on your enemies, their healing will drop by 60% after 3 hits!! That's the most one of these items can provide!

Pestilence

-AKA Old Reliable and the only Anti-Heal that usually is ever built cause supports actually want to HELP stop the healing unlike their damage dealers. (-__-)* Pop this puppy on and reduce the healing of any enemy around you by 25%. < Ya see that there? It's low because its an Aura. That's why Supports need support (HA!) when dealing with heals.

Relic Interactions

Aegis Amulet

-Ya ever wonder why the healer can never save you when you pop your Aegis? Because it block all incoming sources of damage AND HEALING!!! Don't go bming the Healer when they don't have a say in the matter.

Cursed Ankh

-The Distant Cousin of Weakening Curse from days of old, Pop this relic and all healing is reduced by 50% for 10 secs. But wait there's more!!! If you upgrade to the Premium Cursed Ankh, you get to increase the enemies cooldowns by 2 secs make their abilities cost 20% more mana!! So if they had heals on cooldown they have to wait longer and may not be even able to cast it on low mana.

Bracer of Undoing

-This piece of shit fantastic Relic lets you restore 40% of the Health you lost over the last 5 seconds, how goddamn annoying wonderful!! But here's the best part.....IT'S AFFECTED BY ANTI-HEALS!! So you can make someone who pickup this active feel like a idiot and realise they should get better Relics!!

Meditation Cloak

-Saviour of New Players and Assault Mains. While it does provide a minor heal, it's focus is on Mana Restoration. Pick up with extreme caution in modes other than Assault.

Shield of Thorns

-The Kuzenbo Relic!! Reflecting damage is fun right? How bout if you upgrade this amazing item to reduce the lifesteal against you by 50%? Pretty good I know!!

Lifesteal and You

Shout outs to the Wonderful Flareb00t and the Word of Thoth for this bit. There are some major differences in how Lifesteal operates based on whether you are Physical or Magical.

-Physicals can only lifesteal with their Basic Attacks and its capped at 100. Simple enough.

-Magicals can lifesteal with both Basic Attacks and Abilities and is capped at 65. Seems OP right? But there is one thing that keeps Magicals in line. Lifesteal only give 33% to AoE (Area of Effect) abilities. So you had 30% Magic Lifesteal, on an AoE ability you get to heal for about 9.9% of the damage done on each target.

And FINALLY, Gods with built-in Anti-Heal, Deterrence and NEGATION!!

-A rare attribute given to a select few Gods and Goddesses that either reduce or completely negate healing. So if ya want to stick to some healers, you may want to pick up some of these characters.

Ah Puch

-Fleeting Breath: Throw this at those healers and get additional damage plus a stun at the end!!

Bacchus

-Belch of the Gods: Burp your way to victory with 50% healing reduction!! And then whap them with the instant Ult :P

Chang'e

-Moonflower Dance: The Heal that's also an Anti-Heal, Dance through the enemy ranks and drop their heals by 50%.

Cu Chulainn

-Barbed Spear: Thrust your mighty spear into your foes and reduce their healing by 40%. Also stuns minions....Neat.

Medusa

-Lacerate: Slither in for the kill with a dash that goes through minions and reduces healing by 50%.

Odin

-Ring of Spears: Take your enemies to the Thunder Dome where only wimps cares about healing!! Completely shut down healing while in the Ring, and pray they don't have a leap or Phantom!!

Osiris

-Lord of the Afterlife: Suck the souls of the living out of their very bodies as they run around why they have been hit with HEALING NEGATION!!

Serqet

-Last Breathe: Pick your target wisely with the last Heal Killer, and who knows? Maybe your poison will spread and wipeout an entire team?

Sobek

-Sickening Strike: Chang'e if she was a Crocodile and only healed herself? K then. Slash at foes to heal yourself and hit them with 50% less healing.

And with that, I hope that this has helped in some way, shape or form when you go into your next Smite match either as or against Healers. It's now 5:30am AU time for me and I need sleep. Cheers!!

Edit: minor spell check :P

New VGS for Console?

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 06:29 PM PDT

I remember someone bringing up in a thread that the game devs were having trouble finding a new way to implement new VGS into console smite. Though it may seem confusing because console players have little options because of their low amount of buttons, most console players have VGS commands down to a muscle memory similar to PC players. I would much rather press a few extra buttons to call out a command than provide a vague description through the low amount of commands I have and eventually lead one of my team members to their death.

Basically, all i'm asking is to add enemies incoming (left, mid, right) just so I don't have to call out missing and then call a retreat from a lane.

New Healer Mage Please <3

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 05:05 PM PDT

I love playing as healers, especially mage healers. But, we haven't had a new one added to smite in four years. Chang'e was the most recent and she came out in July of 2013. There have been several healing guardians added, but I'd really like to get another mage. I know healing is hard for Hi-Rez to balance, and I know a lot of people find it annoying to play against, but I can't be the only one who really enjoys healers. At least Artio can heal, and maybe this post is a little silly since she just came out... But can we healer players get a new healing mage to call our own? I'll be counting the moments while I get Artio to diamond. PLEASE HI-REZ!

TL:DR - It's been over four years since a healing mage was released and I'd like to see a new one.
