Previous match thread: HGC Western Clash - losers' round 2 :: Fnatic/Liquid vs Team Freedom :: Discussion Thread.

Michael Udall, Gale Force Esports:

Tempo was slumping early in the season but it's nice to see them back in form. I hope my fellow NA brothers do well at the clash.

Cattlepillar, Tempo Storm:

After their roster change GFE is at their highest potential strength as a team so far. Whether or not they overcome their slight inconsistency will decide how far they can go as a team this tournament.

Hots Comic 8 - Lost Vikings doing their thing

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 07:57 AM PDT

Here is the comic. Just the vikings, doing the one thing they're good at.

Special thanks to u/Warmanee for the idea of making a comic about the Vikings losing each other. This came to mind because of that. Thanks!

If you wanna take a look at the rest, here they are:

Hope that you like 'em. And if you have any ideas, let me know. I'm usually in a shortage :P

Really enjoying the PIP they are putting to show the action on the other side of the map

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 12:32 PM PDT

It's something that was discussed even by the analysts and casters last tournaments, how sometimes there is some important stuff happening off screen from the 4v4, and how they would like to find a way to show it to the spectators.

They found it! Really like the solution with the PIP on the bottom left.

Every tournament gets better.

Gul'Dan's Rain of Destruction should get a cast time instead of a channel.

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 04:42 PM PDT

It really needs the Resurrect treatment. Give it a short cast time like Pyroblast and then allow Gul'Dan to do whatever he wants as it's casting. It's a fun ult and very visually satisfying, but sadly his ranged mosh pit (horrify) is one of the best ults in the game and the counterpart is among the worst.

Really dream of the day Rain would be viable, it's a very fun ult to look at and very thematic when you're playing Gul'Dan.

NEW Boss Solo’ing Technique

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 11:18 AM PDT

Video Link: Boss Solo'ing Technique

Hey everyone! Some time ago I noticed that I could take advantage of certain bosses pathing, which allows me to solo kill, and capture them. For lack of a better word, I call it a technique, and I explain it in this video I made. To prove my point, I used only support heroes, but it is easier and faster to do it with ranged auto attack assassins, or heroes that have ranged or sustain abilities. Also, this technique relies heavily on a masterful command of stutter stepping (for which I also created a tutorial video). Try it out and tell me how it works for you!

EDIT:

First off, I'm glad so many players have commented to express their opinions. Secondly and this one is important, I used support heroes for the purpose of showing how effective this technique is! The amount of comments complaining and repeating how long it takes to do this......An assassin can solo the boss 2 to 3 times faster than the supports I used here as an EXAMPLE. I've been doing this for several months, you can tell by the old footage of Tassadar that I put in at the end. I urge you to try it yourself before shrugging it off and saying this doesn't work. If timed properly and done carefully you can do this at no cost to your team, and the enemy won't even notice. Is it risky? Yes. Should you take risks in a game to gain an advantage? That's up to you.

EDIT 2:

Which Heroes would you say the "Difficulty" is wrong about?

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 04:55 PM PDT

Heroes being judged by their Difficulty. Some are Easy/Normal and Hard. One of which is "Very Hard".

However, are these labels all correct? Or would you say some of them are completely wrong? If so, which ones would you say are wrong?

Booty Coffers is Full of Inacurate Information

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 07:50 AM PDT

With the latest brawl, some of the information it provides just isn't true.

  1. The Website states that 2 games are needed for the chest. In the actual game three are required.

  2. The Website and in Game state that once payed 100 coins, Blackheart will bombard the core until it is destroyed. Whilst techinally true, the cores only take one shot.

  3. The game states that even if the enemy has turned it, you can still win if you destroy their core first. However, with only one shot destroying the core, this is practically impossible. EDIT: As a few comments have said, this actually freezes the game, meaning that it is physically impossible to win if they turn in 100.

Personally, I never had a game that lasted long enough for any forts to be destroyed. Most of what is wrong doesn't actually come up in game. I've heard speculation that this brawl was created to test out a potential rework to the main map. I feel that this could be an explanation for the discrepancies in the game and the descriptions. You aren't likely to get a game long enough to actually get to core, but with toned down chest spawns (as would be likely if it were not a brawl map), you could get there. As it stands, the forts aren't enough of a reward above chests to bother pushing. It could also be that these were concepts that were not properly introduced into the game, as it never got to the point where you could attack the core.

Just found it intresting, as I haven't noted anything like this in the past.

[BUG] Lights flicker on in Garden of Terror night phase

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 04:50 PM PDT

So I just played a game on Garden terror and during the night phase the lights of the day phase kept flickering on. This provided me with extra vision of the other team and I was able to get a kill because of it. No one else on my team saw the lights flicker on and none of them shared my increased vision which you would expect. I was playing Valeera (maybe her incredibly bugged stealth triggered something?). My game promptly crashed the second the day phase hit as well. Luckily my buddy and I were playing against 3 bronzie players 4 leagues below us so we were able to overcome the 100% useless valeera bot (it literally does not do anything. It doesn't attack, use skills, or soak.) and work our way back from a 4 level deficit to win the game amidst a pretty 1 sided comp. We had stukov, valeera, zagara, sonya and hammer against medic, chromie, xul, zarya, and thrall. I don't think I saw a single w from chromie hit hammer and medic didn't get scouting drone so I was pure hell on their backline. I guess we can put this on the long list of unfair gameplay impacting bugs and shitty matchmaking.

Edited to add more info

Explained some mechanics to a newbie and made a new friend. (Does this mean I'm a big kid now?)

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 09:24 PM PDT

Been playing for about a year and a half now. I'm not great by any stretch (low Silver), but I did have my first HOTS "grown up" moment today.

Was playing vs AI to cool down for the night and practice my Butcher, and got matched up with a sub-50 player level Diablo. He kept Shadow Charging enemies of my Lamb before it went off and our Tyrande's Flare before it hit, so I chatted to him about not knocking the AI out of our CC. He didn't know what 'CC' meant, so I told him and explained how to tell when our CC was incoming ("you can see on the ground where it'll hit").

After we finished stomping the AI he invited me to party up. I was done for the day though, so I just told him to friend me and maybe we could play another time.

IDK It made me feel a little proud of myself to be able to teach something to a less experienced player. Heroes is my first and only MOBA, and I learned everything I know by playing with my husband, who is lightyears ahead of me in MOBA knowledge and experience. I guess I'm just glad that I got to "pay it forward" to the HOTS community. :)

Can we get the event skins always visible with the description: "only available in....loot boxes"?

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 05:34 PM PDT

This would work just like Overwatch. It's dumb how they have completely removed the event skins unless you own them. I've been saving a few hero specific boxes that I know have Halloween/Winter event skins and it would come a long way to be able to browse and see which heroes have them and what they look like.

I'm a noob with some questions.

Posted: 05 Aug 2017 06:28 AM PDT

I've played a bit of LoL and a shit ton of SMITE. I'm looking for something new so I tried this game. Any help or advice from you guys is appreciated.

I've heard the laning phases are much shorter than other MOBAS, is this true and why?

Are certain classes supposed to only be played on certain lanes like in SMITE?

What is the main game type that people play competitively (Conquest in SMITE for example).
